Today I was asked to go on MLG Slasher's show to be interviewed about WCG and I was unaware that it would turn into a debate. There is no doubt in my mind that Odee, the owner of dignitas , would have more PR experience than I. I came to the interview expecting it to be a casual interview, where I would explain my side of the story-- but it quickly became a debate. At the end of the day, I was unable to formulate concise and logical arguments because I ended up letting my emotions get ahead of me. During the debate, I was unable to think clearly and spoke what jumped to mind. Now that I can think clearly, I would like to address the key topics that occurred during this "interview".
At the end of the interview, Odee saved his trump card for last. He asked me ; " What would you do, if you were in our situation ? "Would you play "
There were a couple things going through my mind at that current time, which caused me to hesitate. I understand that pausing for 20~30 during a debate makes you look unprofessional, however I believe that lying to the community to look publicly correct is worse. I wanted to fully access the situation and give a truthful and honest answer. At the end of the day, I still did not answer the question, but avoided it by saying that I wouldn't be in the same situation that dignitas is in. ( which is true). As the spokes person, Odee put me on the spot and asked me a question that would decide the fate for the rest of my team. To be truthfully honest, I would not play in the WCG tournament if I were in their exact situation and would have forfeited. However, that is only how I feel- but not my whole entire team that consists of 5 players. I really felt that asking that question was a low blow, mainly because Odee put me on the spot to decide the fate of 5 players. If I had openly said that we would have forfeited, I would be known as a selfish asshole that made a decision without my team's consent. On the other hand, If i wanted to forfeit and the rest of my team wanted to play - I would have still played. Now you guys have my truthful answer. To be 100% honest, I am positive that our team would have never been in that situation in the first place. If CDE were in Dignitas's shoes, we would have accepted defeat and would have not contacted WCG Admins to feed them false information.
During the entirety of the interview, Odee portrayed Dignitas as being victimized by the community. Although Odee's perception of diginitas's victimization was quite exaggerated, I do agree to an extent. In my opinion, the league of legends community is absolutely going overboard with harassing voyboy , however I am firm believer of karma and I do think that some penalty should be put in place. During the meeting, I got really emotional and began to insult Odee. That was very unprofessional because I was on Slahser's show, so I would like to apologize to the community and my fans for letting you guys down. On the other hand I do absolutely mean what I said and completely still think badly of Dignitas.
As I've said before, I was unable to present my arguments in a concise manner, so I'll be presenting them now.
The rules clearly state that it is illegal for a player to participate in multiple qualifiers for different countries. The WCG Admin bent the rules for Jatt to participate in multiple qualifiers. Odee argued that the rules were vague. To me, the rules are very concise and clear.
The rules are posted below:
"Series Length: Preliminary – Best of One; Playoffs (Final Eight OR Four depending on registration) – Best of Three; 3rd place match & championship match – Best of 3 with one game advantage to team from upper bracket"
"All national representatives must have proof of legal citizenship for the country that he/she is representing before being allowed to participate in WCG Grand Final competitions
1) Each country’s organizer has the right to set their own participant qualification rules. However, WCG Committee reserves the right to refuse any player, regardless of his/her standing in the National Championship, from participating in the Grand Final if he/she does not meet the above citizenship requirement.
2) In case a player has multiple citizenships and/or has recently obtained citizenship, he/she may not represent more than one country at the WCG Grand Final. Choice of country is locked once he/she has participated in any of the official WCG competition in a certain country. This decision cannot be overturned until next year’s competitions.
3) His/her citizenship status during prior participation in the Grand Final shall not prevent the player from selecting to represent a different country in this year’s competition.
4) If any infractions regarding the above rules are found, the offending player will be immediately disqualified and may be banned from future WCG tournaments."
( Where I got emotional): I was really frustrated speaking to Odee because it was a debate that should of never happened in the first place. Odee did not fully understand the situation, nor did he partake in anything at all. He had this inflated attitude of " I have 12 years of esports, this tournament should be ran this way". The importance of the debate was not about how a double elimination tournament should be ran, but it should be about how the WCG TOURNAMENT WAS RAN. There is no doubt that CDE was treated unjustly, however ODEE ignored the fact that we were treated unfairly and only focused on how dignitas was victimized. I got really emotional and was unable to think clearly. Now, I know better and I will definitely deal with situations like these more professionally.
WCG USA argues that they intended to have 2 BEST of 3 series instead of a bo 3 with a 1 game advantage. Their rules on the website are also posted below. Last year's WCG tournament was also ran exactly the same as well.
"Series Length: Preliminary – Best of One; Playoffs (Final Eight OR Four depending on registration) – Best of Three; 3rd place match & championship match – Best of 3 with one game advantage to team from upper bracket"
WCG argues to have intended for the bo3 with 2 series, however in their email to us - it clearly shows that they lied. Voyboy contacted the WCG admin and informed him with false information. Voyboy told the WCG admin that the Canada WCG was played bo3 with 2 series . The WCG Admin blinded believed Voyboy and changed the rules at whim. It just shows ignorant the WCG admin is about the rules posted on their website. Please remember that Canada played a bo3 Games with a 1 game advantage.
Quote by WCG ADMIN:
"The finals of the WCG USA League of Legends tournament is going to be played in a consistent format to that of the WCG Canada Final which was Best 2 of 3 sets with a 1 set advantage to the upper bracket winner. "
On their website:
"Series Length: Preliminary – Best of One; Playoffs (Final Eight OR Four depending on registration) – Best of Three; 3rd place match & championship match – Best of 3 with one game advantage to team from upper bracket"
Although I made a huge fool out of myself on Slasher's show today, I can honestly say that it was a good life learning experience. Sometimes, you just can't let your emotions take over to impair your judgement. Lastly, I would like to apologize to the solomid community for all of this drama. I really do feel that it is important for not only I, CDE, but for all teams to stand up for themselves. There has been many cases where teams have been treated unfairly by tournament organizers and now Riot is finally willing crack down on this matter. It is because our fans, that make esports happen.

TSM OWES no one that answer.
Why would Regi/TSM needs to answer that? What's worse is how low Odee stoop to ask that question in an attempt to somewhat validate the situation. There is no what if in this. It is unethical, unprofessional and disrespectful to even ask, yet putting words into Regi's mouth by saying "you will play". Pathetic.
Odee also whined about how Dignitas members got flamed by the massive LoL community. Well, asking the team that has just lost their chance to represent their country "What would you do if you were us?" surely will NOT gain any brownie points for Dignitas.
At the very least, an emotional Regi was honest passionate with his answer. While it may be childish, selfish, Reginald DID speak his thought about the matter. It may not be a nice thing to say, but it does convey the the message many of us feel about the current USA representative.
I am sorry for TSM's losses, and I do believe many others too. I am also sorry about Dignitas' losing all forms of dignity.
All the best to Reginald and TSM. Hope you guys get over this soon and move on.
