A little bit about me, I started playing during season 2 when a friend introduced me to this game. I was Silver season 2 then Platinum season 3 and finally this season I hit Diamond. I mostly played ad during season 3 but I started to play support this season and I fell in love with Zyra when I started to play her. I am not the best zyra but I really like playing her and she is my to go champion. My username is Skyvictorious and I am nor the best zyra nor good enough to be 100% sure about how you should play Zyra but I can provide my experience through this guide. I also play Zyra in rank and normal and have good results with her however I am far from being one of the best. This guide will help you learn about everything or almost everything you need to know about Zyra. Why play Zyra? Pros: Good engage/disengage Good damage Can carry games A second AP carry late game Cons: Squishy Low movement speed Need to have good positioning Relies on landing her skills She can deal lots of damage and can peel easily however she is really squishy and is dependant on landing her E which can be kind of slow. I like to pick Zyra when the enemy has divers (Rengar, Renekton, Shyvana) or immobile ad carrys which makes laning phase really easy (Jinx, Miss Fortune). I don't recommend picking Zyra against champion that has higher range than her (Caitlyn) or that are mobile ( LeBlanc, Kassadin) since it is hard to land your E and a misused E makes you useless. I will keep updating this guide as much as I can and at every patch that is significant.

Due to her kit, Zyra synergies really well with many champs however there are some champs that really goes well with Zyra. I will talk about the bot lane about which ad carry mesh well with you and which ad carry doesn't really. Then I will talk about in what type of team composition does Zyra goes well into. So first the ad carry, champions that goes well with Zyra bot lane need a quick burst of damage with self-peel if possible that can go all-in or poke. Why the quick burst and what is that? Skills like Lucian [img=skills/lucian/q.png] are quick burst for me. Just imagine how the lane goes, you land a root + a plant followed by a lucian [img=skills/lucian/q.png] and his passive during the early stage of the game and you've already forced them to back with 2 spells. Another champion will be Ezreal [img=skills/ezreal/q.png] or Graves [img=skills/graves/q.png], skills that deal quite some damage but aren't a 100% sure to land. Quick burst is more of a hit and run play style, you land your E you hit them and you go back to farming/poking until your [img=skills/zyra/e.png] is back up. But if you just hit and run, they will just back and I will never get kills and I won't win lane. WRONG, so many people think that you need kills in order to win lane, but you can win your lane through many other ways such as having more exp, more gold, more pressure, going even in a bad match-up. A kill is worth around 300 gold, which is worth around 2-3 minions waves. So if you can deny the enemy for 2-3 waves then you just got a \"kill\" over them. If you force them to back, they will miss exp and gold which translates into weaker items which makes them easier to kill. Winning through exp and cs is another way to win lane. Also, Zyra is a squishy support and you might get camped some games. If you are getting camped, do not panic and just keep warding. Tell your jungler to counter gank or to do plays at the other side of the map. If you're forcing the enemy jungler to come bot, it just means you're putting on so much pressure they need to send another player to deal with the pressure you've made. However, you need to handle it well or you might throw your lead. Winning by pressure, by taking their tower and then invading their jungle is another way of winning since it puts burden on the enemy jungler but be careful because giving away a double kill can make the tides turn. But fear not, Zyra can also kill the enemy. If you poke them enough and they decide to stay in lane to get as much exp or gold as possible, it is possible to kill them by landing one more root but be careful to not get baited by [img=summoners/heal.png] [img=summoners/exhaust.png][img=summoners/barrier.png] if you dive them. Finally post 6, a [img=skills/zyra/e.png] with a good [img=skills/zyra/r.png] is enough CC and damage to kill the enemy bot lane. I find that the champions that fits the best with Zyra are those with those criterias, versatile champion that can change their play-style depending on the enemy bot lane. I explained the quick burst now onto the self-peel. Even though Zyra is a support, she doesn't have any heals nor shield and her only peel pre-6 is her [img=skills/zyra/e.png] and post-6, her [img=skills/zyra/r.png] which can be missed or dodged easily thus why the self-peel. Then the poke, what is poke? It's when you harass the enemy from a safe position in order to weaken them through small but consistent damage. An example of strong poke champions is [img=champ/ziggs.png][img=champ/nidalee.png], they can stay afar and throw their skills until it finally hits somebody. Zyra can do the same thing however she does not have such a big range. When you can't all-in the enemy, you should poke them as much a possible by auto-attacking as much as possible and by using your [img=skills/zyra/q.png] and your plants until they are low enough that an [img=skills/zyra/e.png] followed with your ad carry should kill them. Finally, after you poke them and they are low enough or when you feel you can kill them, you go all-in by landing your [img=skills/zyra/e.png] then you use your [img=skills/zyra/r.png] on them. If possible use your plants since the 50% attack speed bonus by your ult increases your DPS.

Early game can decide the tide of the game. I usually start Q for the free poke it gives since it has such a long range and I try to aa as much as possible to proc my gold generation item. Here are some tips on how you should play the early game. 1) If you're playing against a lane that has no sustain, don't be afraid to trade hits with their ad carry since you will have 3-4 pots depending on your start while he has one. You also has a nice range to auto attack but don't forget to run in the bushes to lose minion aggro. 2) when you auto-attack, get into a bush that isn't warded if possible to lose minion aggro since during the early game, they can really hurt. 3) try to get lvl 2 advantage first since it will give you a second spell and they don't. This will usually make them back so you will have the lane control but be careful and ward since you can be an easy prey. 4) poke them as much as you can with your Q and if you wanna go for a quick burst, use your E+W to root and slow them however if you miss it, back off a bit and wait for the cooldown to refresh. 5) zyra is really squishy so harass as much as you can since you got lots of pots but don't just go in there blindly as if you're invincible. Example would be ; if you go in for an AA on Lucian but he Qs you and proc his passive on you while your ad is csing, you will have to use one pot but he won't which is a bad trade. A good trade would be to go for an AA when he goes for a cs or when he's so far that you can harass with your plants and he can't fireback. 6) use your plants for vision, W gives vision even if they are seeds which is really useful when you have no wards 7) Know when to push and when to freeze, if you see your ad coming back to lane and they need the cs. Try to freeze it as best as you can with your plants. ( read chapter on what is freezing?) 8) remember, you are REALLY squishy so avoid getting CCed as you can get bursted down easily trade efficiently followed up by a snare and a plant and it should make them back. Be careful of ganks, dodge spells and ward. Example of a fight vs a thresh : if they hook your ad carry, use your E on the enemy ad, and your Q on thresh then start to go on thresh since he will not be tanky and you can kill him easily. Keep attacking him while moving backward since you were in front of your ad as it will make it hard for the enemy to attack you or your ad.

Mid game is where the first towers started to fall and people start to group. Zyra shines during the midgame since your E can catch people oout of position however be careful as you can be the one getting caught since you're really slow hence why I usually get boots of swiftness or mobility. Try to not be alone and stay where you think your team needs you. I.E : if there is 3 mid and your ad is going bot, obviously go mid to help defend the tower. If your team is doing dragons, use your plants to change aggro but do not use your E on it since it is better to keep it in case the enemy tries something. Mid game is more of a who can catch the enemy game, so vision control is really important. Try to stay grouped as much as you can and roam to catch people at their jungle camps or when they make a rotation. Remember that your plants can do a lot of damage however, they usually die quickly if you put them in the middle of a fight since they will get hit by the AoE. You will most likely be tanky (giants belt+sightstone+haunting guide )so don't be afraid to fight if your ad carry is with you. Don't underestimate the damage you deal.

Late game is when a fight can decide who wins and who loses. If the game is close, people will usually fight over a Baron so don't forget to ward the area. A late game zyra can be considered as another ap carry since you went mostly damage items. Usually, you shouldn't be the one starting fights but if you can catch somebody with a snare, don't hesitate to go all in and use your ult if your team is nearby. The way I play late game depends on how the carrys are doing, If the enemy ad is ripping apart your team because we have no divers or tank, I will usually try to land my E on him to waste as much time as possible. However, most of the times, you will have to peel and protect your ad carry. So stay far, wait for the engage and poke them with a Q+W combo with an E when you can land it. When the fight starts, there will usually be 2-3 people diving on your ad, your E is really important as it stops a lot of divers and can help your ad kites ( renekton, rengar, shyvana, jax) Try to use your ult on as much people as you can, stand at the back, peel and poke. The longer your ad lives, the more damage he can output.

It is really hard to say how you should play in a teamfight since it depends on a lot of factors such as teamcomp, who's winning, who's the biggest threat, where are you fighting, etc. Usually, you will be behind protecting your ad carry. Just wait for the enemy divers to use their gap closer and then use your root and pop your ult to disrupt them as much as you can. If you need to be the one to engage, find a good time to snare and then follow up by your ult. Remember that if you need to engage, you will most likely be on the frontline which makes you vulnerable and can get you bursted down so be careful when you engage.

I see a lot of people that only cares about their KDA or their score but your score doesn't matter if you did your job. You can go 10/0 and have less impact on the game than a 0/7 champion. In fact, when I play with Zyra, I die way too much in my opinion because I keep getting caught. But it doesn't mean you played badly. If you were trying to peel for your ad carry and you see them all jumping on you and you get killed asap. It doesn't mean you played badly, remember what your goal is as a support. It is to peel and protect your ad carry as long as possible while providing damage and CC. However, if the enemy [img=champ/vi.png] uses her ult on you and you die because of it. They used a gap closer on you instead of your ad carry which is not something bad. A lot of time you will see people start to focus you since they see you as a squishy target. If so, just stall by using your CCs meanwhile your ad should be constantly attacking people freely since they are going for you. Also, it is hard to get an assist unlike other support that brings heals/auras/shields, if there are fights on multiple fronts. Don't expect to get much assist since you can most likely only hit the target nearest to you. Remember, the game is not based on a score but based on how well you can do your job. A 0/10 tank that lost his lane won't be able to do his job well which is to tank as much damage as possible since he got no income unless he CS-ed like a god. But your job as a support is to give your life for your ad carry and if it's by dying that you can help your team win teamfights then so be it.

Freezing is a skill that can help you push your advantage or help you crawl back from a deficit. Freezing is when you stop the minions before they can get hit by your tower. However you also need to only last hit, only auto-attack until the minions has the lowest hp. By doing this, it will make the lane stand at the same point, thus \"freezing\" and can grant you benefits. [img=http://i.imgur.com/TG891NC.jpg] This is a lane you can't freeze, as you can see, there is more ally minions than enemy minions which will make your lane push no matter what. If your lane is like this and the enemy backed, you should just push it all the way to the tower to deny them as much exp and gold. [img=http://i.imgur.com/mgeX25O.jpg] This is a lane you can freeze. There is only enemy minions and the enemy champions backed. Now would be a good time to freeze the lane to get as much experience and gold as possible. As you can see, I am tanking the minions so they can't go further along the lane so they can't get hit by the tower. Be sure to be healthy if you decide to tank the minions yourself. [img=http://i.imgur.com/UD0eSND.jpg] With zyra, you can use your plants to tank it for you and share aggro which will make you lose less hp. Just spawn a plant before the minions comes and they will start to focus it. Then take aggro with the plants so you will lose less hp. I usually do this when I am still not tanky or don't have pots . How long should you tank it? You should try to tank it until your minions or your ad comes into lane so the minions still won't go to your tower and you won't lose hp. What does this do? Freezing makes your lane not move which can put the enemy bot lane in a weird position. They have to go further down the lane to farm which can make them vulnerable to ganks and if your lane is winning, you can deny them a lot of exp and gold since their lane is pushing and they can't get near it. However be careful since when you freeze it, a lot of enemy minions will be stacking up near your tower. If you decide to engage or your jungler is ganking, keep in mind you can lose the whole wave to the tower.

Throughout the guide I said to use plants first then ward since plants has a bigger range. [img=http://i.imgur.com/u1xGCJu.jpg] This is the range of a normal ward. [img=http://i.imgur.com/b8EDDCm.jpg] While this is the range of a seed. Putting a seed before a ward can save your life since the slightly bigger range will make you able to react faster to danger unlike when you put a ward. [img=http://i.imgur.com/KJrFw54.jpg] Finally, when you drop your seed, it also give visions. When the game starts to shift towards a vision control war for baron, using seeds can be counted as two extra wards which can help you retrieve vision. Also, at the beginning of a game, if you don't have wards but doesn't want to back yet, you can use those seeds are wards.

Marksman or AD carry, they are usually going bot with you if you're the support. Remember, that your AD is your partner, he may flame, feed, play badly but never should you divert yourself from your role of being a support unless of course if he is intentionally feeding/trolling. No matter how bad he may plays, protect him, save him, peel for him because he might have the potential to carry your team. Now onto which ad carry goes well with Zyra. I find that Zyra goes well with most of the ad carry but some are better than others. I will explain the pros of each ADC and the cons. [img=champ/ashe.png] Not the strongest AD carry for this meta, she is more of a utility AD carry. The ult combo from [img=skills/ashe/r.png] and [img=skills/zyra/r.png] can be pretty devastating since it can lockdown a target easily. I would say this is more of a passive/poke laning phase until both of you get your ult. However, both of them does not have escapes but they make it up with their CC. I find that Ashe is quite weak early on vs all-in matchup as she only have her [img=skills/ashe/w.png] to fight with. Overall, Ashe is fine but I rarely see one. [img=champ/caitlyn.png] is the epitome of poke, laning with her will be quite easy as both of you provide so much poke and harass. Caitlyn meshes really well with Zyra, quick burst with her [img=skills/caitlyn/q.png], disengage and selfpeel with her [img=skills/caitlyn/e.png] and she has a single target burst with her ult. The only thing I would say is to be careful and to be sure your skills are up when the enemy will gank or all-in you as you and [img=champ/caitlyn.png] are vulnerable without your disengages. [img=champ/corki.png] is a strange ADC since he has a good laning phase and he is somewhat strong during the mid game but his damage doesn't really come off from his auto-attack but mostly from his spells ( [img=skills/corki/q.png]) which gives him a good burst. He has an escape however just like Tristana, it has a long cooldown and consumes a lot of mana. Paired with Zyra, both of them can poke the enemy easily and even though Corki does not have the strongest burst, he can still burst them with the help of Zyra's root and he can also use his [img=skills/corki/w.png] aggressively in order to ensure kills. This lane is quite easy but it is reliant on poke before going all in which makes them weak agaisnt all-in bot lane and since Corki has an escape, he may potentially be fine but you aren't so hang on to your root and use it wisely. [img=champ/draven.png] is one of those ADC I find it beautiful when played right. He may not have a strong skill burst like Caitlyn or Lucian but his [img=skills/draven/q.png] makes up for the lack of burst through skill. HIs Q empowers his autoattack by a lot and as long as he can catch them, he will outdamage most ADC early game. What makes this lane so strong is their strong catching power and their raw damage, with a root and a slow from his [img=skills/draven/e.png] followed by his steroid [img=skills/draven/w.png], you can catch and kill any target unless you miss them or they have a good disengage. However be careful as both of you does not have any escape, if you were to miss or to get ganked as you use those skills, you will be punished heavily. Draven snowballs really well since his passive gives him a good amount of gold per kill so one kill can make you guys be able to 2v3. If you ever see a good Draven, have fun racking up kills and gold! [img=champ/ezreal.png] is a really fun ADC to play. I find that he is easily a hit or miss ADC since he can either snowball really hard and with his [img=skills/ezreal/e.png], he will most likely always be safe. However, if he doesn't snowball, he does not output as much damage as other AD carrys since he relies on his skills to do damage. His laning skills mostly relies on if he can land his skillshots or not. Landing a root + some [img=skills/ezreal/q.png] is key to winning the lane since Ezreal relies heavily on his skills. However he does have a good burst by using his [img=skills/ezreal/e.png] offensively followed by his [img=skills/ezreal/q.png] which can deal quite some damage. I think Ezreal fits quite well with Zyra since he can combo his skills with Zyra really easily and he has a self-escape. The only downside is that you really need to get ahead in lane or else your damage will fall off and it will get harder for him to carry the game. Poke with both of your Qs then all-in when they get lower (hit and run) is your strategy here. [img=champ/lucian.png] is the strongest ADC currently and his kit works perfectly with Zyra. He has self-peel, quick burst and a good all-in potential. Trading with Lucian is easy, landing a [img=skills/lucian/q.png] followed by his passive and your[img=skills/zyra/q.png] will deal so much damage. He can easily follow up on your roots with his [img=skills/lucian/e.png]. Winning lane with this duo consist of consistent poke with both of your Qs and then landing one [img=skills/zyra/e.png] with a good follow up will either make them back or burn their summoners or even better kill them. It is to note that if you go all-in, Lucian will most likely have burn his dash which can make the both of you really vulnerable if you missed a lot of your skills or they shielded/healed it. Just like many matchup, poke then go in. [img=champ/tristana.png] is one of those ADC that scales really well into the late game however their early and mid game is quite lackluster. Her [img=skills/tristana/e.png] can be considered as a small burst however it applies its damage over time. With her [img=skills/tristana/w.png], Tristana can all-in. On paper, Tristana seems to fit Zyra quite well however reality is different. Her [img=skills/tristana/e.png] is just not strong enough to be able to trade well vs other \"meta\" carry and her jump is on such a high cooldown. However one thing is for sure, Tristana has a good burst when she is lvl 6 with her ultimate [img=skills/tristana/r.png]. I find that with a Tristana, it is more of a slow poke battle ( really slow) and then you guys can potentially all-in the enemy. However if all of that does not work. There's always the late game plan where she shines with her passive which adds attack range. [img=champ/twitch.png] is really strong in this meta, he has a strong presence throughout the game. Coupled with Zyra root, he can make the most of his passive and his [img=skills/twitch/e.png]. Twitch can go aggressive with his stealth and can initiate fight when the ADC doesn't expect it. This lane is quite aggressive as both of you have potential CC and can burst.
