Zyra is an AoE goddess, she is a short range AoE burst mage with additional consistant free damage that follows. She is quite the lane bully although shes slow and soft and has literally no escapes. Zyra is sort of a Lux but with more extreme strengths and weaknesses, she trades the survivability (Shield/Movespeed/Range) for ... well just more damage. [.] Can kill squishies late game with just basic abilities and plants [.] Long range fast traveling AoE root [.] Very heavy AoE CC [.] For a plant shes pretty hot [.] Revenge passive [.] Only mage in the game to farm wraiths from over the wall [.] Free vision with seeds.[/center] [b][center]Cons of Zyra[/center][/b] [center][.] Extremely soft(easy to kill) [.] Extremely slow(easy to catch and kill) [.] 0 true escape abilities(easy to catch and kill) [.] Easy to kill [.] Mobile champions and assassins can have their way with her if she has [imgsmall=skills/zyra/e.png] on cooldown [.] Awful run animation, she runs with monkey arms and a slouch. [.] Weak against teams that don't clump up or splitpush against her. [.] Is almost always going to be the first target for the enemy team especially when they have champions like Vi or Malphite. [.] Weak roamer, slow and vulnerable in the river.[/center]

This is the ideal combo you should be using to make the most of your AoE. [b]Open with:[/b][imgsmall=skills/zyra/e.png][imgsmall=skills/zyra/w.png], This root landing on either a squishy or 2+ people is generally the decider of whether or not you follow up, That follow up being the main combo. [b]Follow up with:[/b][img=skills/zyra/q.png][img=skills/zyra/w.png][img=skills/zyra/r.png] This combo lays down all of your AoE at the same point and it happens very fast it will almost feel like you are just mashing buttons(you might be). All the AoE hits within a second of each other and forms 1 of each type of plant which will both get enraged. This hitting a team can often be enough to kill squishies straight up and take everyone else down to 40-60% health setting you up for an easy teamfight.

[center][b]General Item Build[/b][/center] [center][img=items/morellonomicon.png][img=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png][img=items/rabadons-deathcap.png][img=items/void-staff.png][img=items/liandrys-torment.png][img=items/sorcerers-shoes.png][/center] If you have read my other guides, you should know by now that I encourage you don't follow a guide religiously and should adapt to your situation and I give you tons of item choices to choose from and reasons why or why not to get them. Well I'll still give you the details on those situational items but honestly when it comes to Zyra my build almost never adapts. It's the same thing pretty much every game because it works. [center][b]CORE ITEMS[/b][/center] [center][img=items/dorans-ring.png][img=items/health-potion.png][img=items/health-potion.png][/center] [center]I know, Doran's ring isn't a core item! But still I figured I'd put this here since Doran's Ring is the only starting set up a Zyra should even consider. It gives her everything she needs to be a threat in lane. Doran's is a must for any lane bully.[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/morellonomicon.png][/center] An excellent all rounder item to rush that also happens to be the most ideal source of CDR. At 2300 gold you can complete this item super quick to get your hands on the very respectable 80 AP and 100% Base mana regen. The CDR it provides will get you to 35% at level 18 and Zyra is quite a good user of the passive on this item as her plants are a source of constant damage and in teamfights will likely proc the healing debuff on multiple enemies. [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png][/center] [center]This item is without a doubt the best item in the game for Zyra. It should generally be a second or third item on her as the utility it provides is just invaluable. An item with such great defense and utility coupled with 100 AP is godly. You may have noticed I go on and on about how easy it is to kill Zyra, well this item gives her a fighting chance especially in teamfights where you blow your combo off and immediately pop the hourglass. [/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/rabadons-deathcap.png][img=items/void-staff.png][/center] [center]I am going to leave it to you to work out why these items are a good choice for Zyra, I have faith in you reader.[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/liandrys-torment.png][/center] Liandrys Torment is a great item for pretty much any mage in the game. It is another source of free damage, you cast spells, you deal damage, Liandrys deals more damage for free with no effort. And even though the numbers are small they are many and add up. Considering the gold you pay for that passive the damage it offers is well worth it on champions that can proc it easily. Zyra's plants proc it easily, against the average target the burn damage adds up to about the same as a plant AA so in a way it almost doubles your plant damage output. Zyra also has plenty of movement impairing effects to double the damage of the burn passive with her Root/Slowing plants/AoE knock up. [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/sorcerers-shoes.png][/center] [center]No other options for boots, none of the others provide you anything that is more valuable than 15 magic penetration[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][b]Other Options[/b][/center] [center][img=items/abyssal-scepter.png][/center] [center]This is the best magic resist option for Zyra if the magic damage you take is going to be pretty much unavoidable and in your face. I'd consider getting this if the enemy team consists of those close range magic damage dealers to make use of both the MR and aura from this.[imgsmall=champ/akali.png][imgsmall=champ/amumu.png][imgsmall=champ/fizz.png][imgsmall=champ/zac.png]. This is NOT the answer to AP assassins that are 100-0'ing you in a split second, against champions like Fizz, Ahri and LeBlanc the MR alone is not enough to help your sexy naked plant ass, you are going to need a Banshee's Veil.[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/athenes-unholy-grail.png][/center] [center]A good choice for CDR if you find yourself running into mana problems or need that little bit extra MR. I don't get this in lane as I find 1 or 2 Doran's + Morellos cover Zyra's mana costs as shes not all that thirsty. [/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png][/center] [center]The only time this should ever be bought is if it is complementing an already complete [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png] against a team of people that can be kited(or should be)[imgsmall=champ/warwick.png][imgsmall=champ/nasus.png][imgsmall=champ/udyr.png][imgsmall=champ/aatrox.png][/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][b]Items to avoid[/b][/center] [center][img=items/will-of-the-ancients.png][/center] [center]Sustain just isn't good on Zyra. She isn't about taking damage and healing or sustained fights she is a nuclear bomb that explodes.[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/rod-of-ages.png][/center] [center]This just isn't a manly enough item for you. The only people that should be getting this need to make use of all of its stats to the max(IE be a short range mana hungry mage.)[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/archangels-staff.png][/center] [center]Zyra doesn't stack tear well nor does she need such a major mana investment of an item.[/center] [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/twin-shadows.png][/center] This item is completely beat for the CDR item slot by Morello's for Zyra as it offers less stats that she values compared to the tome. [center]------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/center] [center][img=items/ludens-echo.png][/center] Due to Zyra's kit this is just an inferior version of Liandry's for her, Liandry's is cheaper, offers health and more damage thanks to her plants.

Team composition is, although not always the biggest deal in solo queue, often games are won on champion select alone so its always best to get the team synergy going, what champions go with who and do well on paper. Zyra like I have said is an AoE monster so ideally she wants a team that can either set up her AoE or complement it. Here is some but not all of the champions that have great synergy with Zyra. [center][b]Junglers[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/amumu.png][img=champ/sejuani.png][img=champ/jarvaniv.png][img=champ/zac.png][/center] [center]Basically the jungler is your partner in crime. You want them to be a tank with a good AoE ult. Amumu and Sejuani are the PERFECT champs to go with Zyra mid. Their ults[imgsmall=skills/amumu/r.png][imgsmall=skills/sejuani/r.png] are both engaging AoE CC's and they have about the same radius as Zyra's [imgsmall=skills/zyra/r.png]. J4/Zac and others have synergy with Zyra for the same reasons but to a lesser extent.[/center] [center][b]Marksmen[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/graves.png][img=champ/varus.png][img=champ/vayne.png][img=champ/jinx.png][/center] [center] Graves/Varus are in here because Zyra's combo sets them up. Her AoE CC lets Graves get off his AoE combo off and it also allows Varus' ult[imgsmall=skills/varus/r.png] the time to spread(which in turn keeps them in range of your plants for longer!) Vayne and Jinx are here because of their clean up potential, most of the time Zyra's AoE will utterly decimate a team but it won't finish most of them off so you need a good single target damage dealer who can clean up the mess.[/center] [center][b]Midlane[/b][/center] [center]...[/center] [center][b]Support[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/janna.png][img=champ/lulu.png][img=champ/thresh.png][img=champ/nami.png][img=champ/sona.png][/center] [center]Since Zyra is fair easy to kill with no defense of her own having a support that can protect you or peel the mean people off you is preferred although Nami and Sona get honourable mentions since and AoE CC ult is good for Zyra.[/center] [center][b]Toplane[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/irelia.png][img=champ/malphite.png][img=champ/renekton.png][/center] Top can have 3 types of people to go with Zyra. People like Irelia, Zyra isn't really the best at dealing with the enemy marksmen or carries unless she catches them with her initial combo so that's where an Irelia would come in, someone to hunt down the enemy carries should they not have been in the initial AoE. Malph and Co are there for the same reason as Amumu/Sejuani are in the jungle, their AoE initiation ults. And finally there is people like Renekton, one of those massive tough champions that has a habit of going in like a psycho and drawing a lot of attention to himself and making the enemy crowd to kill him setting Zyra up to explode those around him.

There are 2 things that are counters to Zyra. People that kill her easily like assassins and the like and then split pushers or teams that don't group or teamfight in general. [center][b]Junglers[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/vi.png][img=champ/nocturne.png][img=champ/jarvaniv.png][img=champ/rammus.png][/center] To be honest I could have put every jungler in the game here. Zyra is a junglers wetdream since shes so easy to gank and camp. I can't tell you how many games I have experienced where Nocturnes are using their ult to towerdive me whenever it is off cooldown. No matter though as you cannot stop a Zyra from being Zyra when it comes to late game. [center][b]Marksmen[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/vayne.png][img=champ/ezreal.png][/center] [center]These guys are just so hard to catch and kill. You can be certain if you bump into Vayne on your own and miss root you will die. Ez is the same except he gets the bonus that his poke pre-teamfight is extremely annoying.[/center] [center][b]Midlane[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/fizz.png][img=champ/kassadin.png][img=champ/syndra.png][img=champ/lux.png][img=champ/nidalee.png][img=champ/ahri.png][/center] [center]Mobile assassins are natural counters to Zyra as they can just completely abuse [imgsmall=skills/zyra/e.png] missing and since they are mobile they can just dodge it. Other champions that counter Zyra are like Syndra who are just bigger lane bullies than her. Lux and Nidalee are those champions where you just can't kill them due to their range. Late game Nidalee is extremely bad for Zyra since she can land spear on a slow Zyra easily and her team will be encouraged to not teamfight.[/center] [center][b]Support[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/soraka.png][img=champ/blitzcrank.png][/center] [center]Not much in lines for support. Blitz is there because if you get grabbed you die before you can cast anything and Soraka simply due to her healing. Any healing during your combo will obviously reduce the overall effectiveness of it.[/center] [center][b]Toplane[/b][/center] [center][img=champ/olaf.png][img=champ/irelia.png][img=champ/riven.png][/center] [center]Yeah, those people that run at you and hunt you in teamfights. They are the worst :<[/center]

Zyra doesn't have a weak point in the game, she is strong at all points. [b]Early Game:[/b] Zyra is a strong laner against most champions, she has really scary dueling damage and harass and she can push quite hard especially with her plants aide. She is however very vulnerable to ganks and camping. [b]Mid Game:[/b] Things just get better for Zyra as the game goes on. With her ult she can destroy enemy champions if they get caught in it. She can also farm wraiths very effectively from over the wall and extend her lead on people. [b]Late Game:[/b] As one of the best teamfighting mages in the game it's pretty safe to say Zyra's late game is amazing. Catching a squishy with E leads to a kill pretty much all of the time and she can 100-40ish an entire team on her own.

She has irritating and hard hitting harass with [imgsmall=skills/zyra/q.png][imgsmall=skills/zyra/w.png], great range on her spells which are all AoE and cannot be blocked by minions, a very nice autoattack with a smooth animation and 575 range and finally a very high kill potential in general. I like to start with a [imgsmall=items/dorans-ring.png] and go for level 2 kills. Getting autoattacks off on the laner whenever possible and trying to get level 2 first as well and immediately going for a [imgsmall=skills/zyra/e.png][imgsmall=skills/zyra/w.png], if this lands it will at the very least get flash out of them or maybe even kill them. Just make sure to always be autoattacking aswell. Zyra should always be cautious of enemy jungler ganks though as she is one of the best champions in the game to gank.

[center]Come midgame Zyra is truly a force to fear but she isn't that great at roaming. I usually leave roaming completely unless a fight breaks out that looks like I can reach it. Rather I focus on farming/pushing and Raptor clearing and obviously showing presence for dragon attempts where a Zyra would shine in the skirmish/teamfights. Usually most of my kills in games come from fights based in or near the south river. When doing Raptors, you may need to make sure you have enough damage to kill the little ones with E/Q because if you don't they will live with very little HP and will quickly kill your plants so you will have to run round to the wraith camp to stop them from resetting. When you do have enough AP however you will want to place 1 [imgsmall=skills/zyra/w.png] in the middle of the camp, then line yourself up properly so that [imgsmall=skills/zyra/e.png] will hit all 4 of the Raptors(shown below) and Q them as soon as you cast E. That will(should) kill all the little Raptors leaving the big one against your plant. Early on you will need to help your plant with autoattacks and another Q but as the game goes on it will move to just a few autoattacks and eventually your plant can handle the big one on its own. Late game there is 2 very important things that both Zyra and everyone else need to know about her when it comes to late game. 1. She is a MASSIVE damage threat. 1 [imgsmall=skills/zyra/e.png] on a squishy or 2+ members of the enemy team and all hell will break loose. Every time she ults the enemy will fear grouping up or being near their team members. 2. Kill Zyra. past 30min walking about alone is probably a bad idea, every big bruiser out there is just frothing at the mouse to get their hands on some vegetable salad. In teamfights Zyra gets dived first, not no wannabe damage dealer marksman! Bah! It is standard for everyone to go for her but luckily IF they are the people that engage it only takes Zyra 2 seconds to let loose the majority of her potential and then hourglass. When it comes to 20min and onwards you are going to want to get your team to group up as much as possible to make use of your strengths. Push that midlane or fight for an objective. Don't be afraid to have some balls as Zyra can initiate herself with flash, she is particularly good at this when the enemy team are doing Baron.
