So you have decided it is time to be freed of your flesh and replace that soft and vulnerable squish with the superiority that is steel(ironically it's just as soft)? Good, this is a brochure of the path to evolution. Viktor is an extremely manly(roboty?) AoE mage, despite his obsession with steel being stronger than flesh he is actually as soft and squishy as your typical mage. He doesn't have the greatest utility and very limited mobility but what he do have is damage, lots and lots of damage. Viktor brings utterly insane AoE damage output for his teams with the added bonus of very high sustained damage and the fact that all of his damage is very reliable. A lane bully against anyone that can't outrange him with crazy ratios and base damages make Viktor a monster at basically all stages of the game.

Pros

Extremely high and reliable damage output.

A free item that turns into a monstrous item with up to 180 AP

A 1.2 AP ratio AoE damage spell

His Q is an incredible source of sustained damage that cannot miss

Near unavoidable burst combo when combined with Flash

Doesn't have a weak point during the course of a game

Super versatile with what he builds and when.

Cons

Immobile and soft, very easy to catch/kill

Somewhat short range

Low utility, Viktor is 90% damage

Must autoattack to make full use of his Q

His only utility move(W) is very unreliable and difficult to use

The vector skillshot on the laser can be very hard to use for those that are not used to it

Early lane on Viktor is about establishing dominance if you can, you should actively try to Q+AA your opponent from the get go and do that whenever it is off cooldown, once you get 2 points in your laser you can start using that to harass as well, ideally hitting the wave at the same time to apply pushing pressure. Not all laners are easy to do this against, there are laners that simply outrange you(Azir/Xerath) or laners that are really good at just not letting you close the gap to attack them and punish you hard if you do(Vel'Koz/Anivia). Outside of that do keep aware of what you are, you are a squishy immobile mage with average ability to escape ganks so don't be surprised if you are chosen as the enemy junglers favourite lane to camp.

You should aim to back with at least 1250 gold, that is enough to augment your E although it is a fairly high amount of gold for a first back so if you can't afford it don't be afraid to go for Dorans/Morellos ingredients. The moment you get your E you will feel a considerable powerspike since you will be able to one shot ranged minions at level 7(6 with AP per level glyphs) and push harder than pretty much any champion in the game. This frees you up to poke your laner under their tower with your laser, get ganked yourself :( , or go roaming if your are against a particularly weak counterpusher although the best time to roam is always when your laner backs and you are still in lane. People often think you need mobility to gank side lanes which really isn't the case especially as a mage like Viktor where you just run in behind them and lay down huge damage that is bound to get summoners if not kills.

You should aim to get in fights with your jungler, Viktor is fantastic at 2 vs 2 skirmishing thanks to his reliable and high damage output especially with his zoning potential with his R since the natural reaction is to flee from it.

Roaming - People like to walk about their own jungle on their own and farm wraiths or overextend in their lane when there is no tier 1/2 towers left. Stick with your team at all times since the enemy team will be looking for opportunities to pick people off especially you to stop you from getting a chance to ult in a teamfight, don't be surprised if that enemy Vi Flash-s on to you.

Towers - When it comes to defending or sieging towers you job in either case is to simply fire out as much poke as you can with your laser, at late game since you are throwing around a 1.2 AP ratio spell it will chunk huge amounts out of a squishy's healthbar should it hit them. Don't get to cocky thought as you are not particularly long ranged and has nothing outside of Flash to escape quickly be prepared to retreat as the enemy team won't hesitate to engage on you should they catch you out with something. Only once it is safe to do so should you attack the tower, that is if the enemy back off and are giving it free.

Teamfights as Viktor are simple, R+E combo either the biggest cluster of enemies you can find, or if the enemy team has someone that needs to be taken out do it on them instead. Viktor's REQ combo late game is typically enough to burst 80-100% of a squishy's health, all you need to do is to get close enough. Outside of that he is easy, Q anyone whenever you can, Laser anyone whenever you can and try place your stun field in a place that either immediately stuns someone or completely blocks off a part of the battlefield(especially in the jungle).

So that's my short guide on Viktor, a short-medium range mage that packs a colossal amount of damage and arguably the best waveclear in the game and in general is a very reliable champion for his role.
