For those who don't know me, I'm former solotop player for TCM-Gaming (challenger 5x5), diamond 1 in season 3, and 2500+ elo season 2. Talon is by far my favourite champion as his gameplay totally matches to mine. Even tho I main solotop, I still consider Talon as my main champion and I still enjoy playing him after hundreds of games with him. He is an assassin melee AD champion, but actually he works more like an "AD mage" (High burst damage, fights mostly with his spells), and this is why talon HAS TO be played mid. Talon has 3 spells scaling with AD and his ratios are kinda high, so any AD item will greatly increase his burst. His last spell is an instant dash which is also silencing his target, allowing Talon to send his burst BEFORE his opponent does, this is one of the main reason talon is such a strong mid laner. Talon also has a lot of escapes, making him kinda hard to catch / to follow with some brain. So reading this, you probably wonder: why the hell is talon never picked if he's so good? Several reasons: -He's underestimated a lot: if some people enjoy playing underestimated champions, most of people still prefer playing OP overplayed champions. -Failing your early game as Talon will most of time ends up with a loss, or at least you won't be able to do your job correctly. I know this actually works for most of champions, but it does even more for Talon. Conclusion: Talon is a risky pick, but something sure is that Talon is one of the best pick in soloQ (in my opinion), because there is a huge lack of communication in soloQ, allowing Talon to move quickly to others lanes to get some easy kills. For those who are trying to get out of the "ELO hell", Talon might be the solution, especially at low level. You can easily get fed and he's very effective from early to late game which makes him a good pick to carry no matter how long the game lasts. [imgext=http://puu.sh/3dipP.jpg] Nothing new here, that's the typical runes page for AD caster. I'm using an AD glyph to have one more damage. If you prefer 1.34 magic resist instead of 1 attack damage, it won't change that much anyway, it's up to you. But remember you want to get kills, any AD will help.

[title][img=skills/talon/p.png] Passive: Mercy[/title] [number]Talon deals 10% more damage with his basic attacks to any target that is slowed, stunned, immobilized, or suppressed. [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This is a decent passive, there are lots of way better in the game tho. This isn't the most important skill on Talon, altough it's still useful. [title][img=skills/talon/q.png] Q: Noxian Diplomacy[/title] [number]Talon's next basic attack deals an additional 30/60/90/120/150 (+30% per attack damage) physical damage. If the target is a champion, the target will bleed for 18/36/54/72/90 (+120% of attack damage) physical damage over 6 seconds, revealing their location for the duration. Cooldown 8 seconds Cost 40 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A very nice skill, it represents around 25% of the burst I'd say. You'll max this in 2nd because this is a part of the burst, but first levels you'll more need an harass (W, which is a huge part of the burst too) than the Q. It has a very nice AD ratio and it resets your AA, means you can hit + Q very quickly if you do well. (This combo isn't hard to master) The bonus damage works on towers, it makes Talon one of the best pusher of the game, his Q's CD is very low, allowing Talon to push as fast as a Nasus with Q stacked. Finally, this skill is what makes trinity such an interesting choice on Talon: push faster, burst better, and his Q cd is so low that it also makes Talon a nice dueler. This is why I like Talon, most of AP carries/mage get raped by AD carries late game, their burst isn't good enough. It's not Talon's case: he still rapes AD carry late game if he engages correctly the fight. Note: this skill gives sight of your target (it can always be useful), and don't underestimate the DOT, combined to ignite it deals tons of damage. (It doesn't reveal stealthed champions like akali in her fog tho) [title][img=skills/talon/w.png] W: Rake[/title] [number]Talon sends out a volley of daggers that then return back to him, dealing 30/55/80/105/130 (+60% of attack damage) physical damage every time it passes through an enemy. Additionally the enemy is slowed by 20/25/30/35/40% for 2 seconds. Cooldown 10 seconds Cost 45/50/55/60/65 mana Range 750[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Another very nice ability, once more you can use it for many situations: slowing opponents you're chasing, slowing opponents chasing you, it deals AOE damage which makes it a good spell in teamfight, great harass in laning phase (it doesn't even cost a lot of mana). If you don't spam it all day long, you should never run out of mana. This skill is the main part Talon's gameplay, it allows him to depush quickly to gank others lanes, just like a Sion who would depush with his shield. You can dash on a minion (a minion closer to ennemy champion than you) to increase your range on rakes. It is also one of the best farming ability of the game, with a brutalizer and rakes lvl 5, you will instakill the three casters minions until min 10, and with your BF sword you'll instakill them almost all game long. Harass, depush, farming, AOE damage and slow: this is why you'll max this skill first, too important in Talon's gameplay to get maxed later. (When you got bruta + BF sword, best thing to depush a wave is hitting once every melee minion, then send rakes on the whole wave, you get the 6 cs and you're ready to roam) [title][img=skills/talon/e.png] E: Cutthroat[/title] [number]Talon instantly appears behind his target, silencing them for 1 second and amplifying Talon's damage against the target by 3/6/9/12/15% for 3 seconds. Cooldown 18/16/14/12/10 seconds Cost 35/40/45/50/55 mana Range 700[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This skill is what makes Talon a true terror at mid lane, dashing on the opponent to use your Q, silencing him to send your burst before he does, and it even increases your burst by buffing your damage. It can also be used as an escape on minions or jungler who would come from behind. I also use it a lot to dodge my opponent skill shot, for example if you're facing a Brand, you shouldn't instantly dash on him (Except if you're fed enough to burst him down in 1sec), you should wait him to use his Q to dash, dodging it, dashing on him and silencing him at the same time. That's not the best example, but what you've to remember is that it's a good skill to dodge skillshots. [title][img=skills/talon/r.png] R: Shadow Assault[/title] [number]Talon disperses a ring of blades and gains stealth for up to 2.5 seconds, gaining 40% Movement Speed. When Talon emerges from stealth, the blades converge on his location. Every time a blade passes through an enemy, they receive 120/195/270 (+90% of attack damage) physical damage. Cooldown 60/50/40 seconds Cost 80/90/100 mana Range 1000[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Very nice ultimate, once more, this skill can be used in many situations, sometimes offensively, sometimes defensively. This ulti is what makes different a good Talon and a bad one, a good Talon will use it more intelligently, it is actually what I like on this ulti: you can brain your opponents easily. Something you've to remember: even used defensively, you'll still deal damage, I sometimes want to escape and get a kill with this ulti just by escaping, what else to make your opponents raging. It is also a huge part of your burst, you shouldn't use it offensively if you're not sure to kill your target tho, this is a finisher spell, not something to harass. General skillset: You've probably noticed that almost every spells can be used both defensively and offensively, this is why I like Talon's gameplay, it is very interesting because you always have many choices to use your spells.

[center][img=skills/talon/r.png]>[img=skills/talon/w.png]>[img=skills/talon/q.png]>[img=skills/talon/e.png][/center] R > W > Q > E. No need to comment on R, you can only up it at lvl 6, 11 and 16... Then W, kinda obvious too, it is your harass and farming ability, you need it too much in laning phase. Also your Q will benefit more than W of your AD bonus (1.5 vs 1.2 ratio), so your W will benefit more than Q to get maxed first. After W, go for Q, lower CD, tons of damage at higher levels combined to your AD bonus, this will make your burst even higher. End with E, most important with E is the dash + silence, the damage's amplification is just a bonus (Which is still very nice tho), however, maxing E won't make the silence longer, so better maxing it in last.

[img=items/boots-of-mobility.png] You should NEVER buy others boots. These will allow you to move everywhere very quickly, in soloQ people aren't so fast to tell "ss mid", and with these boots if they tell it 5sec too late, the lane you're ganking won't have time to go back. So in laning phase it helps you ganking, and in mid-late game (after laning phase), it allows you to move way faster than most of opponents, giving Talon a great map control, you can easily catch the opponent support while he's warding/dewarding, their AD carry is doing red? No problem you get there in 3 seconds. Offensive items: [img=items/the-brutalizer.png] This item is a must have on Talon, it gives everything you need: AD flat, arpen and CDR. (CDR is very useful since cd's ulti nerf, that's why you should get blue buff and bruta to have a decent CDR). Upgrade it into blackcleaver later, after the last whisper. [img=items/the-bloodthirster.png] No comment, best AD bonus on a single item, increasing greatly your burst, also gives you lifesteal: very useful to do blue buff alone without wasting HP, also great for duels. [img=items/last-whisper.png] A basic item on AD caster, you need the armor penetration to keep dealing damage when opponents start building armor. Defensive items: [img=items/maw-of-malmortius.png] This is a very good item if you face a mage on mid lane. I almost always get this item after BT/BC/LW. [img=items/guardian-angel.png] I get this almost every time I need a defensive items, don't think I need to comment, gives both armor and mr and a passive dissuading ennemies to focus you. [img=items/randuins-omen.png][img=items/quicksilver-sash.png] Those are more situational, randuin might be a good choice if enemies got no magic damage at all, quicksilver is a very interesting choice, cheap and effective, I often get it against heavy CC team, or against warwick/malz.

You should play safe and farm as much as possible, also try to not get harassed too much. At lvl 4, you can start being agressive against most of champions, you outdamage them. You've to be really careful tho because their jungler might be around, and you don't want to die or even waste your flash which can always be useful later. If you use your dash remember you won't have any escape before lvl 6, except flash. Be sure jungler isn't around mid lane if you wanna go agressive. At lvl 6, you have to get a kill, you can almost one shot your opponent, try harassing him with 1 or 2 W to make sure you can burst him down with your combo. If you can't get kill on mid lane, don't forget Talon is a very nice ganker and you can easily get kills on others lanes, else you can just afk farm and keep denying your mid lane opponent. You have to be fed, doesn't matter if it is by farming or killing, you just need it, a fed Talon is really dangerous, never forget it. A good early game is ~120cs at 15min and 1 or 2 kills minimum. (Having 0 kill doesn't mean you failed tho, if you farmed well, but as Talon you should always get at least one kill or two before 15min.

Right now, you're prolly 2/0 or 3/0 minimum (Or maybe 3/1 if you were unlucky on a dive). At 20min if you got mobility, bruta and BT stacked, you're Godlike, any teamfight well engaged will probably be yours, you outdamage everyone in AOE while being hard to focus. You should force fights between 20-25 min, if every lanes are afk farming, then you can easily towerdive, don't forget Talon is like a Leblanc, his burst is really fast to send, diving a bot lane with him is pretty easy, they don't have so much time to react, you have to use your silence on support most of time he is the one who has CC, and you don't want to get stunned undertower: you're not forced to get everykills, just use silence + Q on support, then W and R on both supp and Ad carry and just back, your mates will do the rest.

If you did well, game shouldn't go to the late game, but if your team does bad or opponents don't want to surrend, it can still happen. Talon is still very nice in late game because he can punish anyone who does a mistake, and god knows people do a lot of mistakes in soloQ. Your job in late game is to catch anyone running alone, it can be support while he's warding, AD carry doing buff or depushing a lane, etc. With your imba mobility, you can easily catch anyone who's running alone in some seconds. In case opponents stay grouped and don't do mistakes, refer to Team Fights chapter. (Just below!)

As Talon, you should always try to get opponents running alone. Sometimes they won't be retarded and walk as a real team, 5 together, so you won't be able to catch anyone. In that case, you should NEVER engage a teamfight, don't forget, doesn't matter how fed you are, you're still squishy and VERY vulnerable to CC (Note: If you're CCed while you're stealthed with ulti, your ulti won't do damage when you activate it the second time). Talon is just like Fizz, his survavibility comes from his mobility, which means getting CCed as Talon is very dangerous, that's why you should always wait for your tank engage. If he doesn't engage, then wait for opponents to engage, once their main burst/cc are gone, you can go and kill their AD carry (Most dangerous in late game), if it's still early-mid game, you should focus AP carry (insane damage at first teamfights). After you did your combo, you should play Talon as a mage like Annie: go back until your CDs are done, and go again, go back again, wait your CDs, etc...

Here a replay of me playing Talon. This was realised in a normal game and was more to show you which combos I'm using, my behaviour as Talon and how a fed Talon deals insane damage. In conclusion, Talon is a very strong soloQ champion that can easily carry his team once he's fed (which isn't hard in soloQ).
