Anivia is an AP Mid character with a lot of CC (Crowd Control) and a lot of damage. She is very underrated by a lot of players but she has the potential to carry the whole game by herself. With her abilities you are able to control the flow of the fight in the way you want. Anivia has great level 2-3 burst damage but her real power shows in the lategame when she picked up some items which give her a big mana pool and a lot of ability power. I probably played more than a 1000 normal games with her and also a lot of ranked games as we speak. With my experience I hope to give you enough information and insight on how to play Anivia, so you can climb the ladders like never before. Have fun reading!

For runes I go with a really common page. This page is suitable in every situation. Sometimes I pick another runepage when playing against a specific opponent but I will specify this in the matchups section. This page always works because it gives you basic defensive stats which are good on Anivia considering she has low base health. It gives +15 AP which is also really strong because if you use her spells correctly it scales 100% on her Q and E. As for marks, magic pen. is really good on all AP casters.

[title][img=skills/anivia/p.png] Passive: Rebirth[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Anivia's passive is really good, it can be used to bait someone or just to survive in certain situations. Try flashing into safety when \"using\" it. Spam your [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] or [imgsmall=items/seraphs-embrace.png], sometimes they activate. [title][img=skills/anivia/q.png] Q: Flash Frost[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Slow moving, long ranged, stun with a lot of damage when its maxed out. Try using ur W to lead them into your Q. It only stuns when the ball explodes behind or on your enemy, otherwise it deals less damage and only slows. You can activate this ability again to make the ball explode. [title][img=skills/anivia/w.png] W: Crystallize[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] A Wall. This ability can be used to: -Catch somebody offguard -Lead somebody into your Q -Keep people in your ultimate -Keep people out of the fight, or in the fight, this can make the fight go your way, or the other way, be really careful when placing your wall in teamfights, you can make, or break the fight. For example, you can wall off the enemy marksman, make sure your team moves away from the wall when you do this, otherwise the enemy marksman can hit your frontline for free and he will be untouchable from behind the wall. [title][img=skills/anivia/e.png] E: Frostbite[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Damage ability, only does good damage when the target is chilled, so use it in combination with your Q or R. More about this in the Ability Combinations section. Targets can also be chilled by for example Ashe's Q and some other champions abilities. [title][img=skills/anivia/r.png] R: Glacial Storm[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] This AoE ability costs a lot of mana, that is why we build a [imgsmall=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png], don't forget it also slows enemies and reduces their attack speed! In teamfights try to get as many people in here as possible, especially attack speed reliant champions. Keep them in your ult by using your W and Q and give them some insane damage with your E.

Maxing your E, and R for damage output. Only select your W at level 4 if you will get a gank from your jungler, this makes hitting your Q easier but it costs an awful lot of mana. You can also level it at level 4 if the enemy jungler doesn't have a gap closer so you can block his path when you're getting ganked. Otherwise just get your W at level 8 to make your Q E combo deals more damage. Stop leveling your wall when it's level 3, it's now big enough to block jungle paths and is useful enough in small skirmishes, you only need level 5 wall when fighting in an open area or near an inhibitor (turret).

In this chapter I will explain my thought process behind buying certain items. [title]Part 1[/title] - [imgsmall=items/dorans-ring.png][imgsmall=items/health-potion2.png] The reason I start with a Dorans ring over for example a [imgsmall=items/faerie-charm.png][imgsmall=items/health-potion4.png][imgsmall=items/mana-potion2.png][imgsmall=items/sight-ward.png] is because the extra damage provided by the Dorans ring increases your chance to win early trades. If you manage to hit your Q E, it's almost impossible for your lane opponent to trade back. The mana regeneration is both +3 but because of the passive of the Dorans ring you regenerate more with the ring. When you hit level 6 and you clear a minion wave you get 24-28 mana in return. It's not much but it's something. - [imgsmall=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png] I get my tear really early because it needs to get mana stacks, I want as much stacks as possible because when I turn it into a [imgsmall=items/archangels-staff.png] it will give me more AP and even a shield once it turns into a [imgsmall=items/seraphs-embrace.png]. - [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] This item is really great for Anivia because it provides her with health, mana and ability power. The health makes up for her squishiness, the mana makes sure her mana pool is big enough to spam her abilities and use her ultimate as long as possible and the AP gives her more damage. The [imgsmall=items/catalyst-the-protector.png], which you get before the RoA will also give you a lot of mana and health when you level up. This gives Anivia a lot of sustain in the laning phase. - [imgsmall=items/sorcerers-shoes.png] These are really useful when your opponent starts building a bit of magic resist. You will directly notice the effect, if your opponent has 50MR you can even consider getting the boots before your RoA. So now you have 3 items: [imgsmall=items/sorcerers-shoes.png][imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png][imgsmall=items/archangels-staff.png]. The passive of the Archangel's staff turns mana into ability power. This makes the combination of the Archangels staff and the Rod of Ages really strong. If you have this at 20-25 minutes you're doing really great. When I have this \"core\" part of the build I like to start roaming. [title]Part 2[/title] Now you have to build a [imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png][imgsmall=items/void-staff.png][imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png]. The order of these items really depends on the flow of the game. - If you are ahead and it's still pretty long until lategame or your opponents are building a lot of health you should look at building a [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png]. This item does damage based on the current health, it stacks really good with your ultimate because it slows units. This makes the passive of your Liandry's deal double damage. - If it's lategame and your opponents have 70+ MR you really want to have a [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png]. It's really cheap compared to other \"final build\" items and it provides really good stats when playing against high MR champions. - If you're behind and lack damage, or just want to greatly improve your damage of your E you should go for the [imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png]. This will give you about 200 ability power if you get it after your [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] and [imgsmall=items/archangels-staff.png]. TL;DR -[imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png] --> More damage on R, good vs high health champions + good in mid-game -[imgsmall=items/void-staff.png] --> Good against 70+ MR champions, cheap, a must for late game -[imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png] --> Greatly improves the damage on your Q and E and gives you good late game stats. [title]Part 3[/title] Optional items with my opinion -[imgsmall=items/athenes-unholy-grail.png] Provides good early mana regeneration but only has 60 AP which isn't that much lategame. I prefer a big manapool over mana regeneration because it can never regenerate as much as your ult needs anyways. -[imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] I like to build this item when playing against a lot of physical damage champions or when I get a lot of focus fire in teamfights. I mostly trade this item for my [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png] when I build it. It gives a lot of AP so it fits really well on Anivia. Some people change this for the [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png] which is also possible but you will have a harder time killing that Nasus and Shen who are trying to kill your carry. -[imgsmall=items/will-of-the-ancients.png] Never really tried to build this on Anivia. Opinion coming soon. -[imgsmall=items/morellos-evil-tome.png] This item's mana regeneration isn't high enough to keep up with Anivia's abilities. The passive is like your ignite and the AP can be found in other items. I think this item only \"steals\" a slot in your build which can be used for better items on Anivia. -[imgsmall=items/guardian-angel.png] I don't like this on Anivia because you already have your egg and it gives back a small amount of health on reviving which will only delay your death. Might work good against assassins or \"reset on kill or assist\" champions. -[imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] Anivia is an AoE damage champion so I'd rather buy a [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png]. -[imgsmall=items/abyssal-scepter.png] I like to buy this if the enemy team has 2 magic damage champions. For example a Kennen or Lissandra top. Those champions deal a lot of AoE magic damage. Abyssal makes you survive this AoE burst and also reduces their magic resist which results in more damage. You can replace this item for your [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png] or [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png].

Early: Farm up to get your [imgsmall=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png] and [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] as quickly as possible. Harass your lane opponent with a Q into E combo. Be careful to not miss too much, the combo costs a lot of mana. After 6: Get your bluebuff between 7.20 and 8.30, depending on where your jungler started, it's your buff, just keep whining until you get it. Stack up your tear, poke your enemy with E R combo, ward both sides and farm the wraithes. When you killed your wave on your lane, you can choose to farm a jungle camp, or start roaming, if you roam, you risk losing some creeps, but you have the opportunity to get kills elsewhere and help other lanes. This is a medium risk, high reward operation if you do it correctly. When your opponent is a hard lane pusher he can sometimes instantly kill your turret when you're away for a minute, this makes roaming high risk, high reward. If you're playing vs [imgsmall=champ/twistedfate.png], or someone with [imgsmall=summoners/teleport.png] don't even think about \"outroaming\" him, just kill the turret and outfarm him. Lategame try to catch people offguard and kill them. In teamfights you can do 2 things. 1) Deal as much damage as possible by ulting everybody of their team and try to kill the squishies 2) Helping your AD Carry survive by killing the enemy frontline and assassins, Anivia melts tanks lategame, especially with a [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png] and a [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png].

Anivia has the most possible combinations of using abilities in the game, at least in my opinion. I'll explain some: Simple poke: - Q E - E R Advanced poke: - W Q E - W R E Q Catch somebody: - (R) W Q Fullburst: - E R W Q E Ignite (+ as much auto-attacks as possible) I've made a video to make it all clear: [youtube][/youtube]

Anivia's wall is a very advanced and high skilled ability, careful use is required. Here are some ideas and possibilities. Split the enemy team in a teamfight: Video coming soon. Clear jungle camps: You can use your wall to imprison neutral monsters in their camp and you can clear them from the opposite side. This way you can steal the enemy wraithes really easily. You can also clear a blue or red buff end game from \"the other side\". Video coming soon. Catch somebody: See youtube video @Ability Combinations

Commonly known \"counterpicks\": - [img=champ/kassadin.png] Kassadin's silence stops your ultimate. His passive makes u deal less damage, and your Q E combo on lane is mostly interrupted by a silence which makes it impossible to activate ur Q the second time and hitting your E when he is still chilled. My advice is preventing this matchup, but if you don't have a choice, you should try playing with AD marks or hybrid pen marks, and auto-attack Kassadin a lot in the lane, this is really annoying for a meelee champion. Ask your jungler for a gank and you might get a slight advantage before he hits 6. - [img=champ/fizz.png] Fizz gets picked a lot versus Anivia because his E can dodge your E. A good fizz will always save his E to dodge your E. If you're really quick you might be able to pull off a Q E combo but you have to hit your Q and E at the same time which is pretty hard for a beginning Anivia. You can use barrier to prevent his ultimate from doing too much damage. If fizz plays without flash you can use your Q E to bait his E so your jungler has increased gank potential. When you're 6 it gets easier, your E cooldown is lower than his, so you can use E R to bait his E, and then, when your E is up again use it again with ur Q or R, this time he won't have his E up so you will be able to do some damage. I also play this matchup with hybrid pen marks because fizz is melee, auto-attacks from anivia have a lot of range and damage early game. - [img=champ/syndra.png] This lane is really annoying, it's best playable with a lot of potions, perhaps start with a [imgsmall=items/crystalline-flask.png]. Syndra will poke you a lot and because of the range on her Q its really hard to trade back. I recommend picking barrier in this matchup to prevent her ult from dealing too much damage. If you dodge her abilities and hit yours you can even win this matchup. - [img=champ/diana.png] Diana's mid game damage is really insane, with 2 [imgsmall=items/dorans-ring.png] she can kill everybody on the field. Play really aggressive before 6, use hybrid marks and auto-attack her a lot, hit some Q E combos. When you guys are both 6 it gets tricky. The best way to win from a Diana is to dodge all her Q's. Diana's E can interrupt your ult so wait for her to use her E before ulting, if she gets close try to stun her and disengage. Bring a lot of wards and potions to this lane after 6, you don't want Diana to roam and feed her team. I play this matchup with ignite because I want her dead before 6. Be careful, if you go 2-0 on her she can still kill you after 6. She will probably go [imgsmall=items/abyssal-scepter.png] which makes her really strong in 1on1's with you. - [img=champ/talon.png] I don't have a lot of experience with this matchup. Anivia's lategame is way better than Talon's. So try not to die, perhaps buy some extra armor if you feel like needing it or just use a big armored runepage. Not dying is the most important in this matchup. Ward up, don't let him get free kills roaming. - [img=champ/zed.png] In this matchup I always run barrier. My runes in this matchup are: magic pen marks, armor seals, flat ap glyphs and flat armor quints. This gives you 25 armor. With the barrier you don't have to itemize against Zed as long as he doesn't get too far ahead of you. Save your Q to stun him when he ults you. - [img=champ/gragas.png] This matchup isn't as hard as people say it is. Use hybrid pen marks and poke him early game. You can deny him a lot of farm by just poking him, don't be afraid. If you didn't kill him before 6, he will probably win trades, so try to prevent them. His ult interrupts your ult. - [img=champ/orianna.png] Orianna has some annoying poke with her Q, watch her mana because she can run out of it really quickly, hit some Q E combos early. This is a skilled matchup in my opinion. The best player wins. - [img=champ/ahri.png] Never use your Q after 6 unless u have a 100% stun. Poke her with E R and dodge her charm. She can kill your egg pretty easily so don't rely on it too much.
