Introduction Hello my friends! Welcome to my Olaf Guide. I'm jevalol, a S2 diamond toplane player. I´ve played Olaf since he was released, and he is by far my favourite champion. In S3 I already reached d1. [imgext=http://s7.directupload.net/images/130928/i5yrkauf.png] I also have a stream, feel free to watch: http://www.twitch.tv/jevalol There are no updated toplane Olaf guides out there, so I think it´s time to share my experience with you. Btw here are my S2 and S3 Olaf Ranked stats ( played at platinum - diamond elo ). [title]S2[/title] [imgext=http://s7.directupload.net/images/130128/lj3psfap.png] [title]S3[/title] [imgext=http://s14.directupload.net/images/130128/9szwhkar.png] Also, I have like 300~ normal Games with Solotop Olaf. Sit back and enjoy!

[imgext=http://s7.directupload.net/images/130131/dukgqmzh.png] Trivia: On an uncharted continent beyond Valoran's grasping clutches, the conqueror named Olaf was born to a long tradition of soldiers unlike most others. Berserkers, as they tout themselves, are warriors who channel fury deep from their cores, unleashing pure and savage wrath upon their enemies. This fearsome evolution is a product of their unforgiving home, Lokfar - a barren tundra where all creatures must vie bitterly for every resource. Olaf belonged to a seafaring clan known for ruthlessly pillaging any and all villages within reach of their dragon-crested longboats. The last time he saw his icy home, Olaf was embarking on an expedition to pioneer and plunder a distant land known only to legend. However, while underway, a terrible storm sprung up and Olaf and his crew were thrown to the mercy of a roiling and pitiless sea. His ship destroyed, his crew nowhere to be found, Olaf miraculously washed up untold miles from ''friendly'' waters on the foreign shores of Valoran, south of Demacia. This unfamiliar place stunned and frightened the Berserker, for Lokfar is not privy to such potent magicians. Approaching them, Olaf hoped that they could use their mysterious powers to send him back to his people. A bargain was struck. Olaf would use his awesome prowess as a warrior to serve the unusual wars of Valoran in the League of Legends, and in exchange the sorcerers would find him a way to return. Despite his participation in the League, Olaf knows better than to trust the ''finger wagglers'' that run the Institute of War. He deliberately keeps details of his life and home from them. After all, with enough information, they would most certainly find the Lokfarians and dominate them as they have dominated all of Valoran, keeping both quietly -- and unwittingly -- in their thrall. Beware the war cry of the Berserker. What surges toward you is unyielding, free from the shackles of reason. Damage 54.1 (+3.5 / per level) Health 441 (+93 / per level) Mana 225 (+45 / per level) Move Speed 350 Armor 17 (+3 / per level) Spell Block 30 (+1.25 / per level) Health Regen 7 (+0.9 / per level) Mana Regen 6.5 (+0.575 / per level) Olaf is basically, the best example for a bruiser. You do not need to build any damage on him because of his skillset. His true damage and high basic damage scale great into late game without buying ad. Pro's & Con's: [title]Pro's:[/title] + Can buy tank Items, and still do good damage due to his skillset and high base damage. + With ultimate and Ghost (or maybe Shurelyas) you can chase nearly any target you want. + good waveclear with Q+W + one of the best duellists in the game due to his passive, Q, and R. [title]Con's:[/title] + if ulti is on cooldown, he can be kited pretty easily + his true damage hurts himself in lane a lot + can be outplayed by well played poke-range-agile heroes ( for example Nidalee or Elise) If you want, you can compare his stats with another common bruisers like Irelia or Renekton. In the following chapters I want to show you why Olaf is so good, and why he’s called OP. [ not anymore since patch 3.0.1 ]

As you can see the whole skillset makes Olaf a strong hero in league. I think that the reason why hes banned/picked allot at the moment.

Stats In this chapter i want to explain, which stats are good on Olaf and why. First, I want to make a \"Stat-Order\", you should try to prioritize higher tiers over lower tiers. Tier 1: Health, Cooldown Reduction Tier 2: Magic Resist, Armor, Armor Penetration Tier 3: Attack Damage, Attack Speed, Lifesteal [title]Health/HP[/title] Explanation: Health (commonly known as HP, an abbreviation for Health/Hit Points) is the amount of life a unit or structure has. Max health is the cap on life any unit can have. Current health is directly reduced by damage and is regained in many different ways. Health lets you tank more damage, and also decreases enemies’ \"potential damage\", a short explanation: If you saw someone with a huge HP bar near to you or someone with a low Hp bar, which one would you attack? [title]Cooldown reduction [/title] Explanation: Cooldown reduction (abbreviated as CDR) is a champion statistic that reduces the cooldown of abilities, or the amount of time you must wait before an ability can be used again once you activated it, by a percentage. Obviously you can spam your Q+E more, and get shorter cooldown`s on your W + ultimate which is really helpful. These stats are obvious Tier 1, because you can just build into them to deal good damage and be tanky as fuck. [title] Magic resist:[/title] Explanation: Magic resistance (or MR) is a stat that all units have, including minions, monsters, and buildings. Increasing magic resistance reduces the magic damage the unit takes. Each champion begins with some magic resistance which may increase with level. The reason i rate mres over armor is because there are not many good magic resistance items which are good on olaf. Even less if you want cdr or health with them. [title] Armor:[/title] Explanation: Armor is a stat shared by all units, including minions, monsters, and buildings. Increasing armor reduces the physical damage the unit takes. Each champion begins with some armor which increases with level . Easier to get, there are a lot of good items outta there, you will take less damage from champions, creeps, and towers. [title]Armorpenetration:[/title] Explanation: Armorpenetration is a champion statistic that allows the champion to ignore some or all of a target's armor. All champions have 0 base armor penetration but can increase it with items, runes, masteries and some champion abilities. This cannot affect enemy armor beyond 0 to deal bonus damage. Since the S3 Patch, I rate this stat higher. But its still not Tier 1, because there is only 1 good Item with armor pen for Olaf () Tier 3: I don’t rate these stats too high, because they are nice to have on Olaf, but you don’t get the best value with your skillset. i.e. You won’t be able to just go tanky and deal tons of damage.

At lvl 1, speak to your team if you can invade. Check enemy- and your lineup to compare the strength/weakness at lvl 1 to see if you can invade. But be aware not every potential hero, is as strong as you think. For example, a Nautilus wich has a lot of cc at lvl 1 (hook + root at lvl 1) will just have a root at lvl 1 ( if hes jungle) because you usually start with w at lvl one if you want to jungle. Just as a reminder, anyways back to Olaf. You should always skill [skills/olaf/q.png] at lvl 1: the reason behind is you get AOE damage ( which is the best besides cc, in a level one fight) + aoe slow ( explain itself, its very usefull if 5 ppl are slowed.) If you aren't able to invade, you should just cover your junglers buffs for example: Blue side: [imgext=http://s7.directupload.net/images/130929/4fiqwjkj.png] This is a great place to cover, you see the inc. from both positions. or [imgext=http://s14.directupload.net/images/130929/4xin9e62.png] I use this spot, if my mid allready covers spot 1. Purple Side: [imgext=http://s14.directupload.net/images/130929/wpg4uf8w.png] or [imgext=http://s14.directupload.net/images/130929/d73hlt2l.png] In lane generally try to talk to your jungle, toplane depends on your jungle. Look if you are stronger in a 2v2 and force fights at top. If not try to play safe around their ganks, and fight as soon youre 1v2. Time the enemy wards/position to tell your jungle when he has a good opportunity to gank. Olaf damage is huge if he can spam his axes, his slow is basically infinite while he has the mana for it. His Q also allows him to near instant clear of waves faster than any other champion early game because of its cooldown and damage. When combined with his level one W, he can basically take no damage from the wave or even heal off it. At the moment is not a viable option imo. Dorans Schield or Crystal Flask are just so much stronger right now. I just want to talk about early game in a 1v1 Toplane, laneswaps will be explained in another chapter. Your earlygame depends on the enemy toplane: Akali: Start: max She has huge burst early on, but if she wants to Q+autoattack, she needs to go close to you. Scare her with using Q + E, when she wants to trade. Be carefull after she hit six, she can deal tons of damage with her q-r-aa-q-aa combo and can burn easily 50% of your life. Try to build tanky as fast as possible and try to outtrade her. Cho'gath: Start: max Ward at lvl 1, and go overaggresiv if you play it well and dont get too much dmg from creeps you can kill him and snowball easily. Otherwise just lay back and farm. As soon he stacks HP youre powerless. Be carefull of ganks before you have ultimate, his Q + E can make a safe kill on you. Darius: Start: max: He will outtrade you early even if you max your E, because he simply has lower cooldown on his spells in lane. Also Darius is kinda easy to kite, so you should outplay him easily. Be aware of his level six burst. Buy as soon as possibel. Elise: Start: max pure farm lane, you will never be able to kill her 1v1 ( except she miss play). Try to avoid her early harass, and ask for ganks. Try to to E her if she comes to trade in Spider form, else harras with your axe. Fiora: Start: max I dont have problems against Fiora, its hard to explain but i think the only think you need to care is dont trade while her Attackspeed/movespeed stereoid is activated. Be aware of her lvl 6 burst, and try to shut her down with early true damage. Garen: Start: max If he plays well the lane is kinda though, but if you kite and using E in the right time you should be able to handle him. Dont stay to long in his Combination or he will burst you down at level six. As soon you got you should be fine. Irelia: Start: max Be carefull of her early, if she lands a stun - aa with true damage combo on you, you might lose a lot of health, just give her truedamage and Q and avoid direct confrontations. Just dont do long trades with her while she has er W started, and you should be fine. keep spaming Q+E, if she wants to lasthitt. Rush as soon as possible. Jarvan: Start: max Hits kinda hard early, but as soon you get some armor/hp you can outtrade him. Try to avoid his knock up, if he gets you q + e him and chase him a bit to deal as much damage as possible. Be aware of his lvl 6, you cant run out his ultimate. would be the best option vs him. Jax Start: max Dont trade to long and you will be fine just poke with Q+E. try to avoid early trade except if you can get true damage onto him. You should be fine as soon you got Wamogs. Jayce: Start: max Against a good Jayce you wont be able to kill him, just farm up into late. You can try to catch him offguard, and chase him down with ultimate and Ghost. Otherwise you wont be able to outplay him. Kennen: Start: max Try to avoid his early harrass by using the brushes. If possible lasthit with your and harras kennen, as soon he wasted his E you can charge onto him and try to burst him down ( try to counter his third stack forhis stun with your ultimate. Example: [twitch]http://de.twitch.tv/jevalol/c/3032841[/twitch] Malphite: Start: max try to bait out his E, and you will be able to chase him down. Be carefully when he hits 6, they might gank you, but you should be able to survive with your ultimate. Nasus: Start: max Pretty easy to lane against, just dont fight while he has W and you will win the trades. Try to deny him early, but anyway you will be stronger every phase of the game. Pantheon: Start: max The reason i dont start with , is because of pantheons ability to just spam his spear. You need a lot of sustain and be able to trade early or he will just kills you or get a 20-30 gap of creep kills wich is pretty bad for you. Otherwise there is no chance to win against \"Man-Theo\", just be aware his Stun/W returns his passive, and you should be fine. Renekton: Start: Max Be carefully around lvl 1-5, after you hit harder with youre true dmg. Dont go into long trades because he will just hit you harder, harras with your true dmg and poke with Q. Riven: Start: max in my oppinion the easiest lane, you just needs to make sure to use your E when she wants to trade, and Q when she doesnt. make sure not to waste youre E into her E. thats all folks. Rumble: Start: max try to avoid him whes his heat is yellow or red, otherwise q+e him and run away, because you have burst while he has damage over time. Shen: Start: max i max E,and try to bait out his shield. Walk onto him and q+ aa him if he doesnt use shield u will outtrade him. After he used shield try to get a Reckless swing onto him. After he got Wamogs + Sunfire he will dominate you try to farm up and be usefull till. Singed: start max kite him with your Q and hit E as much ads possible, be aware of his pushing. he will try to kill ou at lvl 2 becasue its singed strongest phase dont fall for it. After wamogs he cant kill you. Tryndamere Start: max The start is kinda same against AD and Ap Tryndamere. If you are against AD trynda you can actually win, try to put constaint harras onto him with E + Q, and kill him if possible. Dont fight when he has a huge amount of rage and dont get into long fights. Against Ap Tryndamere: Max I dont found out yet how to deal with him, he just counters your whole skillset so easily. I allready beat ap tryndamere and i dont think its op.. but i didnt managed to beat him with Olaf yet, and I would suggest to just try to farm up with maxing Q + start high sustain and dont try to get splitpushed. Wait for ganks, and be safe. Vladimir: Start: max kinda annyoing to lane against, its a kind of farm lane, buy mana/mres to sustain in lane and try to catch him after he used his pool. Wukong: Start: max Just be aware of using your E in time, and dont waste it to his decoy. Care for his lvl 3 Burst + ignite. Xin-zhao: Start: max be aware of his huge lvl six burst, and try to e him before he engages you. You might need to let some cs go, because he would engage on you otherwise but this is fine you can outfarm him later easily. Also try to avoid his E + Q harras. Xin has a small manapool, fight when hes low mana, Yorick: Start: max ask for early ganks and try to kill him, if nobody helps you out you should be farm and just try to killl him if hes out of mana or at low health. Zed: Start: max make sure to get early a lot of true dmg down to him, because later he will just poke you down if you dont dominate him early. Buy as soon as possibel. I just listed the common toplaner, if you have some questions about other matchups, write me in the comments. I will update this section as often i can.

As a toplaner i really like to play laneswaps, let me explain why laneswaps can be good: First you should know the advantages and disadvantages of laneswapping. Pros: + if youre botlane is weaker than the enemy botlane you can garantee a safe farm for your ad. this works greatly if you play lategame carrys like kogmaw or vayne. + You can get early pressure if you will be able to deny the enemy botlane + if you play a hero with waveclear top you can mostly farm well and outfarm every other toplaner Cons: + if you missplay it you might get dived and loose the turret early + drake + the enemy toplaner farms better I dont want much to explain what the botlane should do when you laneswap, i will focus to toplane. Youre ad/support should push the enemy turret as soon as possibel, and try to dive the enemy toplaner ( with jungle ganks) at lvl 2. thats why you pick jungler wich can tank turret often ( like mundo/kayle) You should always start if you have to laneswap because you get good sustain and less auto attack damage plus health. If you know you will laneswap you can just do wolves or golems, port back and then walk into lane. Since most botlanes will freeze and wait for a big creepwave to dive or get the tower low you wont lose muchexp since you would get zoned anyways. Plus you will reach level 2 in 1-2 creeps and it will be a lot harder for dem to dive you take the turret. Place the ward, and you will see if they want to dive you at lvl 2/3 and all will be fine. As soon the enemy top tower is down, you can swap back. I will add some laneswap replays later, at the moment lolreplay is kinda bugged.

While mid game you should prepare for coming down to dragon, and help your team out or move behind enemy toplane to countergank. Try to to time dragon if your support/jungle dont do it, you need to when go b and come for it. You can also push your toplane, and try to lanegank botlane ( only possible if you have cc on your botlane like Ashe/taric ) Olaf's ultimate basically negates the damage of most CC champions such as Zyra for example, and allows him to ignore effectively her presence if her AP is not high. Mid game should be the time Olaf is farming

His ultimate Attack Damage allows him to keep up in damage as this is usually the stage where champions have not started on their armor items yet and are still feeling the affects, otherwise just farm up, and dominate your lane if possible. Ward baron/enemy jungle to get map control. if you are still laning will lvl 11++ you can easily outtrade everyone in lane, if you get to them. Mobile heroes like nidalee or elise will kite you around, and you wont be able to kill them. Just be carefully and always ward river-jungle to help your team finding mapcontrol. Make sure to buy many wards, and oracle for counterwarding. Group with your team and make plays, just engage on enemy if you dont have another hardengage. If you arent able to make plays, just farm and pressure lanes, but be aware of getting caught. Never go bottom lane if the baron is up, except your teleport is up. For teamfighting see teamfight chapter below. YOURE A BEAST! YOURE BROLAF! [imgext=http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ls9idgw2E21r1eynvo1_500.jpg]

If possible try to chase onto the enemy AD-carry, pop . Be aware of going to deep into the enemy, because you might get killed fast if ad and ap focuse you and your team cant give you backup and deal the same amount. If you run thro you should stay at your ad carry kite enemy bruisers and do as much damage as possible to the closest target. Press ult when you get cc'ed and you need to get out of it instantly to rape. Press ult if they are ALL targeting you to reduce the damage with your ult. im sorry i cant explain every aspect in teamfighting/laningphase/earlymidlategame it just depens what the enemys do. Below are some teamfights example plus explanation: Game 1: Olaf chase [title]Explanation:[/title] The first video is a soloq game, as you can see i run onto anni because shes out of position. I pop my ghost, and use my ult EXACTLY when leona want to stun me. I didn't waste one second of my ultimate. After i killed anni, my ult was on cd so i just focused my closest target. But i did one mistake, i didnt throw my axe properly ( i mean i could have throwed her and catched er while im after anni), so i needet to wait for the full cooldown. Game 2: force 4v5 As you can see i take out Nidalee, at the start of the fight. The enemy played a poke combo, so we need to engage b4 they poke us down. After Nidalee jumped out with low HP , ichased her for like 1 sec ( which was kinda bad) and then run into the teamfight. Used my Ultimate again as the exact time i need it and chase onto enemy AD. Game 3: Splitpushing and teamfighting Because we had teleport, i could afford do push top/bot while my team is pressuring with 4 ppl. This tactic work good against a poke combo because if they split, they are easier to catch. I just need to teleport in just in time and chase onto enemy AD. He could not do much and we won the fight just because he only attacks me and i eat hit attacks. Game 4: i dont engage bro As you see we had a xin zhao, so i dont need to engage, i just run in ( without ult) and as soon xin jumped hin i popped my ultimate and chase down zyra ( simply because she was the closes target, and i dont need to anti carry because mf was pretty bad ingame) also we got nunu/cait wich can win the game easily if noone reach them. Here are just a few examples how you can move into teamfights, its kinda important to know your combination to do the right stuff. I prefer picking olaf in a Push-comb ( just puck waves with axes and use tp as soon the enemy wants to fight your team., all-in combo ( just chase down enemys), or even in a poke ( you can use your axe as poke, kite to hold enemy team away, and you can chase down people when they get poked low HP).

Im not a great jungler, but atleast i can give you short advices if you dont get your toplane. Start with : corebuild: and Route: Wolf->blue->wraiths->Red->golems gank whenever you see the oppertunity. I dont want to explain counterjungling s.o because i think im no good jungler, and this is still a toplane guide.

This is the Replay Section, i will add a few replay now and some other good replays later. I will try to post replays where i do some mistakes and replays wich are interesting to watch. The replays are outdated with the old sunfire/wamogs Olaf i will uplaod as soon my lolreplay is fixed. from http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com Because of Berserker Rage's effect and Undertow, Olaf is one of the fastest junglers in the league. Undertow allows him to gank effectively, and the combination of Vicious Strikes and Berserker Rage let him both sustain his health throughout the early game and effectively take on and defeat most other junglers. Undertow is a versatile ability and offers many different utilities to Olaf: It is a very useful ability for chasing because of its own cooldown reduction (if you can pick it up while chasing). Throwing your axe where you are likely to chase your opponent lets you refresh its cooldown much quicker and increases its slow uptime. It is an effective harassment ability. While many skillshots are consumed upon hitting the first target, or will lose effectiveness as they do, Undertow will travel straight through all enemies it hits for full damage. At early levels, however, recklessly spamming it will swiftly leave Olaf without mana. Undertow will benefit from the spell vamp and damage boost of Vicious Strikes. Large minion waves can be used to quickly regain health by activating the ability and hurling an axe through the midst of them. It can also be used to improve harassment damage, but the mana cost of this tactic is extreme. It will remove the fog of war in a large area around where it is thrown for a very brief duration, making it useful for checking bushes. Although Olaf's sustained damage output isn't very powerful during early game, his burst is surprisingly strong as his Reckless Swing deals a significant amount of true damage which cannot be mitigated by any means. With a few ranks invested in the ability it can devastate the health of most squishier champions during mid game. If you have not invested in significant HP as you level it, it can also fairly quickly devastate the health of Olaf himself if you are not careful with its usage. With this in mind, it can often be unwise to abuse this during a duel, as Olaf may potentially wind up helping to kill himself. Olaf can combine Berserker Rage, Vicious Strikes, and Ragnarok at low life to become deceptively tanky. This makes him a great duelist, as he can take on most champions even at low health. When combined with items and spells such as Randuin's Omen and Exhaust, he can become formidably hard to kill. After purchasing a few health items, Olaf can deal significant damage while Vicious Strikes is active. Ragnarok provides complete immunity to all forms of CC, and largely defines Olaf's playstyle during the later stages of the game. It can be used either to initiate a battle, to improve his defenses midway through one, or to make an emergency retreat if the situation starts to become disadvantageous Olaf's most common and effective role during lategame teamfights is to function as a bulky assassin. Upon the commencing of a pitched teamfight, Olaf can activate Ragnarok, piledriver straight through the frontline of the enemy team and single out the opposing AD carry. Because of the complete CC immunity that Ragnarok affords him, he becomes extremely difficult for the opposing team to peel away. Even if Olaf is unsuccessful in slaying his target, the threat he poses is often enough to drive them completely out of the teamfight in their attempts to avoid him, drastically reducing the enemy's team's damage output. Olaf is also a very useful peeler himself, operating to safeguard his own carry from the opposing team. His ability to chain-slow enemies with Undertow and the excellent damage output from Reckless Swing can make it extremely difficult for enemy champions to safely attack the carry without risking being kited and killed.
