This a guide on how to play Udyr. He is a very versatile champion that can build as a Melee dps, a tank, an AOE AP dps, or even a combination of any one of them as a hybrid. I will include some possible routes for his builds. He can build to exploit the enemies weaknesses or to fill multiple holes in your own team comp. Just building him as a Bruiser makes ppl think he's OP in lane and out. =P Udyr is also an all-melee champion. He can only do damage and cc at point-blanc and doesn't have a single dash or teleport like many other melee champions do. This restricts the type of engagements that he can be in. Many players also like to take flash, which makes Udyr's job that much harder. Many people believe that Udyr is very much underpowered now and he is a relatively underused champion. I don't believe him to be bad at all and I use him plenty. He is definitely not a tier 1 champion, but he is strong all-around, kind of like trundle. You also have to build him tanky, even if building DPS or AP, or else he won't be able to survive or do damage as he needs to be in melee range, or in other words, out of position all the time. Udyr is an extremely proficient jungler and can solo dragon early and even solo baron quickly without so much item dependency as other junglers require, with the exception of Jax. Udyr is a early-mid game champion but he has no ultimate, but can master his basic skills much earlier. He reaches the pinnalce of his relative effectiveness at lvl 5 in each path that he can use. His real drop-off areas are lvl 6-11-16 as those are the levls where most other champs would be getting their ultimates. Udyr pretty much get's weaker and weaker as the game goes on, but become more and more versatile because he will usually be focusing on using one stance while leveling all the others up allows him to play other roles and as they have different effects. Because Udyr is so versatile, he is a good first pick in ranked queues, as you can build him any way to suit the needs of your team and/or to counter the enemy. Learning the strengths, weaknesses, and effects of all his stances and abilities makes for a great Udyr player. [title]Note that you should build Udyr based on what runes and masteries you give him. Certain runes and masteries give you segaway into specific skill and item builds. You can experiment with Udyr on Co-op vs AI or Custom games. [/title] P.S. Warding should always be one of Udyr's priorities, no matter what he builds.

Dodge no longer applies! UDYR WEAK. League of Legends v1.0.0.130 no more dodge. Now Udyr can't jungle or rape AD's as much. Still strong jungler, but weaker in team fights and won't be as healthy. Screw all dodge runes and masteries. Go flat resistances. Resistances=stronger turtle=win game.

My runes and masteries up top are based on jungling udyr, but there are plenty of other options for him in other scenarios. [title]For jungling[/title], the armor pen reds lets you do more damage with your auto-attacks to let you jungle a little bit quicker. Dodge yellows and quints work well with your passive in and out of the jungle. Procs on dodge will give you an additional 10% movespeed bonus, which can be the difference between running away, chasing an enemy, and dying. Magic resists per level blues allows Udyr to last in team fights later in the game. [title]If you are going a pheonix stance jungle, [/title] then use attack speed reds, flat armor yellows, Flat magic resist blues, and Attack Speed quints. Most of your damage with Pheonix jungle is from your peristant effect every 3 hits. More attack speed allows you to proc the peristant more, dealing more damage and allowing you to jungle quicker. Flat armor allows you to survive and stay healthy in the jungle. Flat magic resist helps you against counter jungles as most counter jungles will be doing magic damage to you. It also helps you gank casters that might otherwise nuke you very hard. [.] Tiger is better at ganking and can take down baron and dragon easier than Pheonix. Pheonix clear the jungle faster now [title]For laning dps udyr, [/title] you can use armor pen reds, flat mana regen yellows, magic resist blues, flat or per level, and flat attack damage quints. Armor pen allows you to do more auto-attack damage. Flat mana regen helps you early game, where your mana usage will be very high. Late game, you mana usage becomes very low, so mana regen per lvl won't be very useful. Magic resist helps you lane against casters, as you are a melee champion and can be easily harassed by casters Flat attack damage allows you to last hit easier and allows you to do much more damage early game with your tiger stance passive and active. [title]For a laning tank, [/title] you can use flat armor reds, flat mana regen or dodge yellows, magic resist blues, per level or flat, and movespeed, flat health, or dodge quints. Flat armor reds gives you more durability, which you want as a tank. Flat mana regen helps with your early game mana problems. Magic per level blues allows udyr to last longer in late game team fights. Flat magic resist helps him lane against a caster. Movespeed quints give udyr more mobility in team fights, while chasing or running away, and while harassing. Flat health quints gives udyr more durability for early game team fights. Dodge yellows and quints should be used together to counter a heavy auto-attacking/right-clicker team. [title]For AP udyr, [/title] you can use magic pen or attack speed reds, flat mana regen or flat armor yellows, flat magic resist or per level, or cooldown per level blues, and Movespeed or attack speed quints. Magic pen reds allow you to do more damage in pheonix stance. Attack speed reds and quints allow you to proc your pheonix stance passive more often. Flat mana regen yellows help with your early game mana problems. You won't be using ap that much early on as you should stick to turtle stance. Flat magic resists allows you to lane safer against casters and magic resist per level gives you more durability in late game team fights against casters. You shouldn't be spamming your abilities early game, but you might need to spam them or rotate them late game, so cooldown per level helps in that aspect. You also won't be needing Movespeed allows you to stick to your enemies while in pheonix stance. There are many rune combinations for Udyr. Do not feel restricted to these set-ups and try your own.

[title][img=skills/udyr/p.png] Passive: Monkey's Agility[/title] [number]Entering a stance grants Udyr 10% attack speed and 3% dodge for 5 seconds. This effect can stack.[/number] [title]Explanation: This effect can help Udyr jungle and push, But it still isn't that great of a passive. [/title] [title][img=skills/udyr/q.png] Q: Tiger Stance[/title] [number]Activation: On his next attack, Udyr swipes at his target, dealing normal attack and dealing 170% of his attack damage + 30 / 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 extra damage over 2 seconds as magic damage. In addition, It increases attack speed 5% less than passive for 5 seconds. Persistent Effect: Udyr's attack speed is increased by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40%. Half of this is persistent, the other half is activated for 5 seconds. Cooldown 6seconds Cost 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35mana Range 600[/number] [title]Explanation: This is Dps and Jungling Udyr's bread and butter, golden egg, sprinkles and frosting and the cherry on top, whatever you want to call it. It allows him to put out a massive damage output to a single target. The bonus damage isn't just from bonus attack damage, but also from base damage, which, combined with the massive attack speed bonus, makes Udyr very adept at jungling with tiger stance. The active takes effect after you've hit the first target once. Then, the DOT lasts for 2 seconds. This allows you to finish off enemies without having to over-commit. Having mobility or attacking a kited target allows you to deal the full amount of damage to the target. You can use bear stance to get close and stun the opponent before activatiing tiger stance for an effective damage output. [/title] [title][img=skills/udyr/w.png] W: Turtle Stance[/title] [number]Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+50% of ability power) damage. Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores 12 / 14 / 16 / 18 / 20% of his damage as health and 9 / 10.5 / 12 / 13.5 / 15% of his damage as mana. Cooldown 6seconds Cost 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35mana Range 600[/number] [title]Explanation: This is laning udyr's greatest skill. Possibly one of the best skills in the game. It allows him to regenerate quickly and shield himself from some damage while its active has a low cooldown, but doesn't allow you to crit, which should be fine as you shouldn't be trying to build crit on Udyr anyways. You can lane and farm with little worry as long as you are able to hit something to recover mana and health from. Your shield can help you get close if you are being denied. This ability also allows Udyr to tower dive as it can shield him while he enters the tower's agro zone, attack or finish off the enemy, and by that time, the cooldown should be back up and you can shield yourself out again. [/title] [title][img=skills/udyr/e.png] E: Bear Stance[/title] [number]Activation: Udyr gains 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27% increased movement speed for 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 seconds. Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds. Cooldown 6seconds Cost 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35mana Range 600[/number] [title]Explanation: This is tank Udyr's greatest skill. It allows him to quickly place himself inside the enemy team's positioning and reek havoc as he is able to stun everyone once every 6 seconds. This disable has a low cooldown if you stun multiple people, but the disable is less effective in small engagements and dueling as it is only 1 second long and can only be activated again after 6 seconds. This also helps jungling Udyr's ganking with the rather long speed boost and the stun. [/title] [title][img=skills/udyr/r.png] R: Phoenix Stance[/title] [number]Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing 10 / 18 / 26 / 34 / 42 (+25% of ability power) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, Udyr's ability power is increased by 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 / 48 and his attack damage is increased by half of that amount. Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+25% of ability power) magic damage. Cooldown 6seconds Cost 75 / 65 / 55 / 45 / 35mana Range 600[/number] [title]Explanation: This is AP and Jungle Udyr's greatest ability as it does great AOE damage without ability power scaling. Udyr becomes the fastest jungler in the game with this ability. It also allows Udyr to farm entire minion waves with just 3/6 hits. Udyr can easily push or side push with Pheonix stance and then run with bear stance if he is ganked or chased. The bonus ability power and damage can be used in coalition with tiger stance or turtle stance for bonus effect. [/title] It is also important to not that after you activate one stance, you have to wait a full second before you can cast another stance, even if it is not on cooldown. All of Udyr's abilities can be used in coalition with eachother, and different combinations provide different paystyles and roles for Udyr. Learning each and everyone one of these purposes and combinations allows you to be very versatile and effective with Udyr. For example, you can start off with bear stance to engage into a fight, activate turtle stance to soak up some damage, then activate pheonix stance or tiger stance to deal damage to a crowd or to a single target. Another combination is: if you are ganked, activate turtle stance to soak the damage until the cc ends, then use bear stance to create distance. Another one still is: to tanking a tower, activate bear stance before going in, then activate turtle stance while you still have your speed boost to get to the tower, then activate pheonix stance to get the bonus damage (from ap or from ad), and lastly use tiger stance for the atk speed bonus. Alternate between Pheonix and tiger stance while attacking the tower. To disengage from the tower, use turtle stance followed by bear stance. Try your own combinations of these spells for specific situations in order to learn of Udyr's massive versatility and different roles, play-styles, and tactics in the game. If you are laning, put a point in bear stance and don't activate it until you are in an engagement. [.][highlight]Trick[/highlight]: there is no cooldown of any sort after you activate any stance for the very first time. Essentially, you can use the ability twice in a row

[title]For agressive jungling[/title], use 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]6-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]7-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]8-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]9-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]10-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]11-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]12-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]13-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]14-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]15-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]16-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]17-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]18-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] This set-up allows you do jungle very quickly. Maxing Tiger stance first allows your active to deal massive damage to the greater monsters and kill buffs, dragon, and baron much quicker. Next, get Turtle stance to level 3 for the extra sustain in the jungle and the boost of the shield. Then, maxing Bear Stance next allows you quickly travel from camp to camp. It also allows you to gank better, escape sticky engagements quicker/better, and allows you to counter-jungle safer and with greater efficency as well. Pheonix is not as fast for jungling since the nerfs and Jungling Udyr builds into tank and dps, but not AP. Jungling Tank and DPS Udyr should usually stay away from Pheonix stance, so I level it last and allow it to be cut short at lvl 3. [title]For defensive jungling[/title], use 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]6-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]7-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]8-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]9-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]10-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]11-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]12-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]13-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]14-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]15-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]16-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]17-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]18-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] This set-up allows you to maintain a greater amount of health while you jungle, but is slower. getting 2 points in Tiger gives you the basic speed to jungle with and reduces the mana cost so that you can use it without blue buff more often. Then, maxing Turtle Stance give you bonus shield and extra mana and health restore as you hit enemies in turtle stance. Use this skill order if you believe that you will be counter-jungled a lot. If you are ganked, you will be near full hp and have a bigger shield, but your run speed from bear stance will be reduced as well, so you will be more unlikely to escape from an uneven engagement. When you choose to go this path, pick your fights wisely and try to keep your eye on the entire map to see who's mia and who's not, then decide if it is safe to commit to risky camps like blue, red, or dragon. [title]For Pheonix Jungling[/title], use 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png] As the basic jungle start. You can build into whatever after you get these skill until level 5. There are many other ways to appoint skill points to jungle with Udyr. It's up to you to find which paths go with certain runes and masteries.

[title]For laning with Melee DPS[/title], use 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]6-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]7-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]8-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]9-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]10-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]11-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]12-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]13-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]14-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]15-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]16-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]17-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]18-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] Getting Bear Stance at lvl 1 helps you a lot in early fights as you get both a speed boost and a stun. Then, Maxing Turtle stance allows you to stay healthy in lane and the shield has lots of uses from tower diving to shielding from skills and escaping from ganks. Tiger Stance should be maxed next as it is Dps Udyr's crown ability. Maxing Tiger stance first allows a Dps Udyr to basically nuke an enemy with its additional 170% atk damage +230 as Magic damage. This allows Udyr to be more versatile. If they build armor, you can build more flat attack damage to make the most use of Tiger Stance's active. If they are building magic resist, you can get atk speed or armor reduction items to deal more damage with auto attacks and Udyr's passive and Tiger Stance's attack speed boosts. Again, Dps Udyr will usually stay away from Pheonix stance. [title]For laning with Tank Udyr[/title], use 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]6-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]7-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]8-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]9-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]10-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]11-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]12-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]13-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]14-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]15-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]16-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]17-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]18-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] The first point in Bear Stance and maxing Turtle Stance first is the same reasoning. Maxing Bear stance second is to enable you to be more effective in engagements, as tank Udyr's main job is to disable the enemy's. You can max either Tiger or Pheonix stance depending on team comp. If you and your team fight an enemy that likes to be spread out, it is better to get Tiger stance as it is a single target ability. If the enemy likes to stay bunched up, it is better to get Pheonix stance because it is does AoE damage. [title]For laning with AP Udyr[/title], use 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]6-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]7-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]8-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]9-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]10-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png]11-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png]12-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]13-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]14-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]15-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]16-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png]17-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png]18-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png] AS in the two set-ups before, get Bear Stance at lvl 1. Then, get 2 points in Turtle stance for better laning ability and followed by 2 points in Pheonix stance so you can clear waves. 2 points in pheonix stance is significant because then, the persistant effect does double damage. Thiss will allow you to clear waves and push the lane. The increase in Pheonix stance at lvl 5 is also important because you will most likely want to go blue pill before most other champions get their ultimates. The alternation of leveling Pheonix and Turtle stance gives you equivalent durability and damage at all stages in early- and mid-game. After those two skills, max bear stance for the increase in speed and duration. The extra speed boost can help you to quicker position yourself, chase enemies, and Lastly, put 3 points in Tiger stance as you should stay away from Tiger unless you are taking down a tower. [title]A variation on AP Udyr skill build:[/title] 1-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png] 2-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 3-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 4-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 5-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 6-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 7-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 8-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 9-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/r.png] 10-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png] 11-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png] 12-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png] 13-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/e.png] 14-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 15-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/w.png] 16-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png] 17-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png] 18-[imgsmall=skills/udyr/q.png] Similar reasoning to the skill order above. You get e first for early team fights. Then, you max Phoenix first for the most damage with 3 points in Turtle for durability. You max Bear stance next for the increased speed boost and speed boost duration. It gives you more survivability for running, mobility for moving across the map, and can give you the edge in a chase. Then you finish maxing Turtle and put 3 poitns in Tiger at the end. [.]This is a more aggressive skill build than the one up top. You should really only use this skill order if you are winning or have a lead at the start of the match.

You can pretty much build Udyr however the heck you want, but I'll show you some of my preferred set-ups for each type of Udyr. Items to stay away from: [imgsmall=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png] - you don't need that much mana mid game or late game. Your mana costs get lower and lower and your regeneration from turtle stance gets greater and greater. Getting that much mana would be a waste [imgsmall=items/phantom-dancer.png] - Udyr has no need for crit. Wasted stat. A large portion of DPS Udyr's damage comes from flat attack damage through Tiger Stance active and persistant effects. Turtle stance also doesn't allow you to crit. Crits=bad idea [imgsmall=items/hexdrinker.png] - Udyr already has a shield. He doesn't need much more. Better item choices early, mid, and late game. REMAKE:[imgsmall=items/philosophers-stone.png] is a good item to get for laning if you plan on playing agressively in lane or if you are getting bullied in lane. Helps keep you strong in health and mana. Lets you use your stances more. [title]For Tiger Stance jungle Udyr[/title], start out with cloth armor: [img=items/cloth-armor.png]+[img=items/health-potion5.png] to get blue or: [img=items/long-sword.png]+[img=items/health-potion.png] or [img=items/cloth-armor.png]+[img=items/health-potion3.png]+[img=items/mana-potion2.png] if you can't get blue. It isn't bad to get blue potions on Udyr as he has many mana problems early game. Getting blue pots might allow you to jungle quicker, which can be much of a benefit to you and your team. Then, the build proceeds as: [img=items/boots-of-speed.png]-[img=items/madreds-razors.png]-[img=items/vampiric-scepter.png]-[img=items/wriggles-lantern.png] You will jungle fastest and gank better using this order. While buying potions and wards whenever you can. You might want to be getting an early oracles if you think that they have placed some wards in your jungle or if you can't seem to be able to gank anyone. Chances are, they have wards. You should have them too. If you have a support, you should let them get the oracles. After finishing these items, build into dps or tank Udyr accordingly and selling wriggles to get your 6th item. You can use [imgsmall=items/madreds-bloodrazor.png] or [imgsmall=items/hextech-gunblade.png] or [imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] with defensive items to allow you to solo Baron. [title]For Pheonix Stance jungle Udyr,[/title] start with cloth armor: [img=items/cloth-armor.png]+[img=items/health-potion5.png] Then get a dagger: [img=items/dagger.png] And more pots [img=items/health-potion.png]. [imgsmall=items/wriggles-lantern.png] is viable for jungling in Pheonix Stance as well. Afterwards, you can probably build regular Ap items or if necessary, change to Tank or DPS builds. You should consistently get pots, wards, and oracles when needed. 2 items that can help Pheonix Udyr in the jungle are: The items that build into [imgsmall=items/hextech-gunblade.png]or a [imgsmall=items/guinsoos-rageblade.png]. Getting both items along with some defensive items allow you to solo baron early on and quickly get dragon. These Items are only Jungle-Dependant though. Check The Laning Udyr Section for full builds. [title]For Laning with Udyr,[/title] start with: [imgsmall =items/sapphire-crystal.png] or [imgsmall=items/meki-pendant.png] and either 2 red pots [imgsmall=items/health-potion2.png] or 1 red pot [imgsmall=items/health-potion.png] and a blue pot [imgsmall=items/mana-potion.png]. This should take care of most of your early game mana and laning problems. You can also get [imgsmall=items/boots-of-speed.png]+ [imgsmall=items/health-potion3.png] or [imgsmall=items/cloth-armor.png]+[imgsmall=items/health-potion5.png] if you think you're going to lose your lane. [title]For Tank Udyr,[/title] you should rush a [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png] and get either [imgsmall=items/banshees-veil.png] or [imgsmall=items/sunfire-cape.png] as your second item. If you team is getting raped, then get 3 HOGS and maybe a philo in between if you need the regen. Then build whatever you need to stay durable. A [imgsmall=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png] can help you and your team in early-mid game team fights, but not much else. Tank Udyr build can mix with any other playstlye/build. Sample builds: Balanced team: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/randuins-omen.png]+[img=items/banshees-veil.png]+[img=items/guardian-angel.png]+[img=items/force-of-nature.png]+[img=items/frozen-mallet.png] Heavy Physical Damage: [img=items/ninja-tabi.png]+[img=items/randuins-omen.png]+[img=items/sunfire-cape.png]+[img=items/thornmail.png]+[img=items/frozen-heart.png]+[img=items/frozen-mallet.png] Heavy Magic Damage: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/warmogs-armor.png]+[img=items/force-of-nature.png]+[img=items/banshees-veil.png]+[img=items/abyssal-scepter.png]+[img=items/sunfire-cape.png] Other Team Has Little Damage: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/warmogs-armor.png]+[img=items/sunfire-cape.png]+[img=items/atmas-impaler.png]+[img=items/force-of-nature.png]+[img=items/frozen-mallet.png] [title]For Dps Udyr,[/title] you should still get [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] or [imgsmall=items/mercurys-treads.png] for enough survivability in a fight. I tend to stay away from attack speed items because his passive and Tiger Stance gives him so much attack speed in the first place, and you area melee champion, so attack speed is only useful if you cant keep close to your target. Your first item should be [imgsmall=items/phage.png] or [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png]. Stacking [imgsmall=items/dorans-blade.png] isn't a bad idea either. Remember that your Tiger Stance active turns flat attack Damage into a Magic Damage Rend over 2 seconds. Then, you can finish your build to maintain both damage and durability. Sample builds: Enemy stacking armor: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/frozen-mallet.png]+[img=items/the-bloodthirster.png]+[img=items/banshees-veil.png]+[img=items/madreds-bloodrazor.png]+[img=items/last-whisper.png] Enemy not stacking armor: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/the-black-cleaver.png]+[img=items/the-bloodthirster.png]+[img=items/trinity-force.png]+[img=items/banshees-veil.png]+[img=items/guardian-angel.png] You are too squishy: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/warmogs-armor.png]+[img=items/atmas-impaler.png]+[img=items/banshees-veil.png]+[img=items/the-bloodthirster.png]+[img=items/trinity-force.png] [title]For Ap[/title] By AP. I don't really mean stack AP. I mean build for magic damage and Pheonix stance. "AP" Udyr uses an alternative damage source from Pheonix Stance. You should still try to be durable/tanky while also complementing the damage from your Pheonix Stance. you should still get [imgsmall=items/mercurys-treads.png] + [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] with the option of [imgsmall=items/berserkers-greaves.png] if you see no need for cc reduction or dodge. AP Udyr requires being close up to the enemy to be able to land hits and proc your Phoenix persistan effect and so that your Phoenix AoE active actually hurts the enemies. Being Durable is also important because all of your damage will be spread out over a long duration. AP will provide you with more damage and a greater shield. Durability is the most important aspect because Udyr's AP ratios are very bad and you need to survive so that you can actually do damage, not just be a meat shield. Getting early [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png] help you be durable and can help build your upcomoing items. You can also get [imgsmall=items/hextech-revolver.png] for spell vamp to help you stay at high health in lane. Another choice is [imgsmall=items/sheen.png] for the increased damage every time you activate a stance. This also works well with Pheonix stance as the Ability power will help the active and persistent effects, Mana will allow you to spam it more, and the bonus attack damage from Phoenix will proc into Sheen. You should almost always build a [imgsmall=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png] by mid game or you won't be able to connect hits to proc with your Phoenix Stance Persistant effect. You should usually build either [imgsmall=items/hextech-gunblade.png] and [imgsmall=items/nashors-tooth.png]. Hextech is for the healing to help you stay alive in a fight, allowing you to do more damage. The bonus damage and ability power add on to your Phoenix stance active buff. The gunblade active can help you to slow down an opponent that's a fair distance away from you so you can flee from them or chase them down. Nashors gives you attack speed to help proc with your Pheonix Stance Persistant effect while the cooldown lets you spam your stances much more often. The regen can help in laning or spamming bear stance to travel across the map. Sample builds: Low Magic resist:[img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/sunfire-cape.png]+[img=items/hextech-gunblade.png]+[img=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]+[img=items/guardian-angel.png]+[img=items/abyssal-scepter.png] Heavy Magic Resist: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/nashors-tooth.png]+[img=items/frozen-heart.png]+[img=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]+[img=items/guardian-angel.png]+[img=items/void-staff.png] You are too squishy: [img=items/mercurys-treads.png]+[img=items/hextech-gunblade.png]+[img=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]+[img=items/sunfire-cape.png]+[img=items/banshees-veil.png]+[img=items/warmogs-armor.png] True Pheonix/Hybrid Udyr Build: If you play serious and want to use pheonix. Early: [img=items/wriggles-lantern.png] or [img=items/wits-end.png] + [img=items/spirit-visage.png] or [img=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png] Boots: [img=items/ninja-tabi.png] or [img=items/mercurys-treads.png] Goals: [img=items/frozen-mallet.png] or [img=items/trinity-force.png] + [img=items/frozen-heart.png] or [img=items/force-of-nature.png] Extra: [img=items/warmogs-armor.png][img=items/atmas-impaler.png][img=items/banshees-veil.png][img=items/shurelyas-reverie.png][img=items/sunfire-cape.png][img=items/quicksilver-sash.png] [img=items/guardian-angel.png]

Note: [.]Being a good jungle Udyr requires you to perfect the timing on his skills while taking out camps. Messing up shouldn't have too many reprecussions. With Yorick patches, timing isn't such an issue anymore. You can even switch to maxing the other stance mid-way after 2-3 points if you choose for the different playstyle. Jungling Udyr is pretty proficient with tiger stance. He used to be the best jungler with pheonix stance, but after the nerfs, he just wasn't quite as good with it. [.]Tiger Stance Udyr is very mana dependent. Without mana, jungling becomes painstakingly slow. With mana, it's extemely quick. His massive attack speed bonuses proc with madred's razors [imgsmall=items/madreds-razors.png] and wriggle's lantern [imgsmall=items/wriggles-lantern.png]. Tiger stance Udyr is rather risky and slow before madred's but very fast after it. You pretty much rely totally on blue buff to jungle and there is no other good alternative. Tiger Udyr is very good at ganking as he doesnt need to constantly auto-attack an enemy like most other junglers. His stun leads right into his tiger stance, which causes a large amount of magic damage over 2 seconds upon a single hit. [.]Phoenix Stance jungle is more versatile than Tiger Stance jungle. You can start anywhere. Even red (not recommended). The active AoE, attack damage, and ability power increase his potential to use other abilities alongside Phoenix stance. Phoenix stance Udyr is slower in the jungle at the point where Tiger Stance Udyr would have gotten madred's. Phoenix Stance jungle is also a lot weaker at ganking as the bulk of your damage will only come when your on your 3rd attack to activate the persistant effect of pheonix stance. [.]With both Phoenix and Tiger stance jungling, you are able to solo and/or get dragon really early. With the right items, probably at lvl 6 or 7 for dragon and 16- [title]Early game:[/title] The basic jungle route is to start at Blue and go from there, skipping red. (Blue, wolves, wraiths, mini-golems, blue pot) On you second trip start again at wolves, but this time take red. (wolves, wraiths, red, golems) Fill in lanes or gank while on this route if you can or need to. If no opportunities present themselves by this point, go into the enemies jungle and see if you can counter-jungle. Be careful in your own jungle though, as Udyr has little escape options early on. Bear and turtle stance will cost too much mana for a practical escape in the jungle while you are taking out camps. By your third trip, you should be able to maintain full health while jungling if you get a vampire sceptre. [title]Mid-Late game:[/title] The later the game goes, the faster Udyr will jungle and the less he is reliant on blue buff to jungle. Give blue buff to your caster, support, or carry; whoever is in the vicinity at the moment. Always buy wards and ward in this order of importance: 1. for whoever is getting ganked 2. dragon(mid game)/baron(late game) 3. in enemy jungle(agressive)/your jungle (defensive) 4. baron(mid game)/dragon(late game) You can take baron and dragon very early with Udyr as long as you spam your offensive ability (Tiger or Pheonix Stance) with Turtle stance. You might want some help as taking dragon and baron can be very risky if even a couple of the enemies are up and well. Make sure to ward both sides of the river when trying to take dragon or baron. Gank whenever you see an oppertunity, usually when you see an enemy overextended/pushed or low on health. Fill in for lanes where the enemy has pushed hard. Use turtle stance to soak up some of the damage for you tower. Keeping towers healthy should be your tertiary (third) priority, the first being ganking and the secondary being warding.

Stonewall008 shows the best jungle paths for Udyr to jungle from. It is now much easier to jungle with him with the new Yorick patches. [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cKmgKXYccA&feature=channel_video_title[/youtube] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cKmgKXYccA&feature=channel_video_title There are many ways to jungle with Udyr. I hope that these videos gave you some insight into how to jungle with Udyr.

[title]Early Game:[/title] Udyr lacks in lane and needs to stay back from the battle front very early on as he is weak at his first levels. While in the lane, stay in turtle stance so that your attacks will heal you. Last hit and use turtle stance's active to shield incoming damage. After you get lvl 3 turtle stance, you will have enough defense to successfully harass enemies. Use the engagement combo and then back off, activating turtle stance if needed to shield damage. With tiger stance, you will probably be able to take away 1/5 to 1/3 of their maximum health just by engaging on them. You are also able to shield yourself for 140 damage and this can save you in case something goes wrong. You will do pretty pitiful damage with phoenix stance though, so you should stay defensive if you are leveling up phoenix stance. Pheonix stance can help you farm through every third hit. [title]Mid Game:[/title] At lvl 10 and with a couple of items, you will be the unstoppable tank. You can soak up tons of damage, stun multitudes of enemies, and travel so fast, you be the wind that's been knocked out of your enemies. You can't 1v3, so don' try. Udyr isn't unstoppable, but he is very durable. He can usually survive a 1v2 for a while. Tank Udyr doesn't do a lot of damage. Your sole purpose in mid game is to asist your teammates in getting kills, harass the enemy jungler, roam, and protect towers. Udyr is like a utility tree for the entire team. Don't be afraid to tower dive as you can easily move through the tower with bear stance and soak the damage with turtle stance. This ability to tower dive give you and your team the advantage even at the enemies towers. They might think they are safe while tower hugging, but they aren't, unless they have a huge arsenal of CC that they can focus on you and then at your team. If they don't focus you first, you'll be countering the CC with your own stuns. You can start team fights at their towers in this stage of the game. [title]Late Game[/title] Udyr is a rather bad tank late game. Most other tanks will exceed him at this point. Your main job is to scout areas for you team and catch people off guard or out of place. Ward baron, dragon, and buffs and get an oracles to counter the enemy wards. You should stick to your carry(s) in case they get ganked. Without them, your team will have no damage in a team fight and that will lead to an automatic loss. You are able to tank towers for your team to push down, but be sure that team fights don't start while you and your team are pushing. Keep in mind to ward gank paths if you are going to push. Tank Udyr should stay away from side pushing as your main purpose is in team fights and soaking the damage. You can solo baron with enough items at lvl 18, with or without smite and jungling stats. Treat baron like tanking a tower. Use Phoenix-Turtle-Tiger (repeat) combo. You may let your team side push or distract the enemy while you tank down baron all by yourself. This can greatly mislead the enemy into either giving up a tower or losing baron. [title]Team Fights[/title] In team fights, Udyr has the role of an off tank. You should be the one who is leading the "pack" of allies. Stand in from and try to block all projectiles and pulls, for example Blitzcrank's [imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] rocket grab, Alistar's [imgsmall=champ/alistar.png] headbutt, and any skillshot like Amumu's[imgsmall=champ/amumu.png] Bandage toss. Blocking these can give your team time to position themselves to properly engage. You should also be the one engaging for your team when you see a window of oppertunity. Take advantage if an enemy is out of place or unprepared. The speed boost from your bear stance can catch many people off guard. Once you engage, you can create chaos within the enemy team's lines. When in a team fight, try to stun whoever you can while moving towards the carry. Use Turtle Stance shield if you are getting focused. Once you get to the carry, stun them and use Tiger or Pheonix stance and deal damage to them. If the carry moves away from the fight or dies, change targets to the next highest damage dealer or to the support character. If all out of options or ideas, just stun whoever you can and protect your carry while shielding yourself when focused to survive as long as you can. Protecting the carry isn't something that Tank Udyr should focus on. You should be able to prevent a lot of damage to your team with stuns and damage soaking.

[title]Early Game[/title] Just like early game tank Udyr. Don't try to engage and last hit as much as possible without putting yourself in danger. Stay in turtle stance while in lane. Once you reach lvl 3 turtle stance, you will be able to take out 1/2 to 1/4 of the enemy's maximum health by engaging with Bear-Tiger stance. Shield yourself whenever you are going to take damage as it can allow you to engage a multitude of times while leaving you relatively unharmed. If you do get injured, you can easily heal it back up with Turtle stance's persistant effect anyways. This tactic allows you to dominate the lane against certain opponents. Some enemies you shouldn't use this tactic on like Vladimir [imgsmall=champ/vladimir.png] after level 6 as he can out-damage Udyr, out-zone you, and heal himself faster than you can. His sanguine pool also allows him to bait you into getting near him while just pooling to avert your attack and deal damage to you. Also, don't engage on them if they are faster than you even with bear stance. Malzahar [imgsmall=champ/malzahar.png] and LeBlanc [imgsmall=champ/leblanc.png] at lvl 6's are also people you dont want to engage on early game as you will just end up killing yourself. [title]Mid Game[/title] By level 8 or when you get a HoG [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png]. You might also want to get an oracles while you roam to counter-ward. You can try to babysit your teammates if they look like they need it. You will be able to easily harass the enemy jungler and possibly solo dragon. Your stun, speed boost, and Tiger Stance damage will greatly increase the strength of your ganks. You should be constantly warding, but be sure not to buy too many as you will still need to build for damage. Increased vision gives you more chances and a higher success rate in picking off people who are out of place. It also helps your team anticipate ganks and manage themselves based on the position of the enemies. You should always be in a team fight if there ever is one. Your wards should allow you and your team to see where the enemy is and when they will engage. Be sure that you have optimal placements for your wards. By level 9 or 10, you should be able to solo dragon. Be sure to ward both sides of the river if you try to solo it. If you are the blue team, then ward the enemy's blue so you can see if they try to catch you from that route. Have your team side-push top if you choose to try and solo dragon to put pressure on the enemy team. Getting dragon or a tower will give your team a good advantage. While attacking dragon, use Tiger to Turtle stance to stay high health and hopefully survive if you get caught for any reason, which you shouldn't because of the wards. You can also lane, but since most other champions will have their ultimates, you will be at a disadvantage. [title]Late Game[/title] Continue warding, putting pressure on towers, dragon, and baron, and try to catch people who are out of place. You should still stay with your team for most of the time, unless you are required to take baron or defend a tower. Those should be the only times where you leave your team. Your side-pushing power isn't to good and there are many other champions who can win a duel against Udyr. [title]Team Fights[/title] Your role at this point is just to try to be an assasin to stun and damage the priority targets. You priority list for DPS Udyr should go like: 1. Carries 2. Squishies 3. Supports 4. Protect your Carry 5. Everything else. First, let someone else engage. You are all Melee, and if you are kited, you will imediately be taken out of the fight if you try to engage. Second, rush in with bear stance and stun your initial target. Then, switch to Tiger stance and hit them a couple times. *Shield yourself if needed. Retreat with bear stance to escape, bait, or to reposition. Remember that you are a melee bruiser and you still need durability to do damage and be useful.

This is probably considered a troll build. It is definitely not the best as Udyr's Ap ratios aren't very good at all. In some cases, it is completely useless. But, this build won't work well unless it is a Hybrid type of build or merged with the other paths. There are certain time where it is possible and better to use AP Udyr in place of the other This build does a lot more AoE damage while the other 2 builds focus on disabling and damage single-targets. [title]Early Game[/title] With AP Udyr, it is best to have a duo-lane. Laning is similar to the early games above. Stay defensive and last hit whenever possible. With level 2 or 3 pheonix, it is possible to harass. First, be sure to be have Phoenix stance beforehand and use 2 physical attacks without proc'ing your Phonix stance persistant effect so that your next attack will activate the persistant effect damage. Then, switch to bear stance and stun your opponent. Immediately switch to Phoenix stance and hit them again to proc Phoenix stance's persistant damage effect. Then, rush back out. Use the Turtle stance shield if you are going to take significant damage. As with DPS Udyr harassments, the same rules apply to who and when not to harass. Obviously, if they are faster than you even with bear stance, don't try to engage on them. In either of these cases, you just might end up hurting yourself which could snowball into losing your lane. Getting an early HoG is a possible item to get for the gold per 5 and the extra durability. [title]Mid Game[/title] Try to stay in lane and side push it very hard as much as possible. To side push, though, you will still need to ward possible gank routes. Farming and side-pushing should be your main priority. You are also able to help out with dragon and ganks, but you won't be too much use in either case. Side-Pushing is most likely going to be your best option. You can push a minion wave very quickly by standing in between the caster and melee minions and attacking the middle creep of the caster wave first, and then the middle creep of the melee wave, and lastly the canon minions if there is one, all while having your Pheonix Stance active. This method is fastest as it makes the most use of your Pheonix active AoE and your Pheonix persistent splash damage every 3 attacks. You will do a lot of damage to towers if you can keep your passive at 3 stacks and you Pheonix Stance active up as long as you can. This can throw many enemies off as they won't expect you to push as quick as Ap Udyr really can. [title]Late Game[/title] You should be stacking up on Durability at this point for you can't do much with a pure AP Udyr, unless the enemy team has absolutely no damage and cc at all. You want to be able to tank and deal damage at the same time. You might also want to side-push, but as this point in the game, Udyr is one of the worst side-pushers. Even if he can clear a wave, he can be easily be stopped as Udyr isn't a very good duelist, so he can't commit to the push very well. It is a better idea to stick with your team, engage in team fights, and be able to pick off enemies. You also might be able to solo baron with core items and some durability. Be sure to constantly ward, and maybe counter-ward, with Udyr. [title]Team Fights[/title] Punish them for focusing you by soaking up all the damage for your team. Punish them for not kiting you by lodging yourself within their positioning and dealing lots of AoE damage. You can turn good positioning into bad positioning Utilize Bear stance's stun as much as possible between activating Pheonix Stance. Use Bear stance immediately followed by a turtle stance, then a Pheonix stance to engage.

You can just skip to the end of this video if you want. And remember, "Thousands of wards are left unsold, decreasing map awareness, and letting dragon be easily taken. Buy a ward, stop a gank, save a life. Wards" - wowcrendor FTW Always buy wards. Udyr should have no problem buying them, so buy one or two whenever you can. Here are some of the basic ward locations. It took me quite a while to make this guide, but I hope it was worth it in the end. There's still a lot I want to write about, but I forgot what I wanted to say. -_- I think you can understand my predicament by the size of this guide. Udyr is very versatile and can adapt to almost any situation in-game. There is even a way to play a full roaming Udyr, but I haven't figured that playstyle out quite yet. I plan to make another section to this guide on how to play Roaming Udyr. Remember to try your own ways to play Udyr as you can play him almost any way. This guide should only set some basic guidelines in building and playing Udyr. I'm not saying to go off and troll with rally-revive jungle or stacking archangels. You should know at least what NOT to do and build. Try to keep with the Item Build section at the top. With the new Yorick patches, Udyr has less mana problems early game and Pheonix Stance active is slightly more powerful. Note: This guide still needs to be revised. Improvements are still being made. I can include your own opinions Also gonna try to get some footage and pics. =/ [.]LOTS OF UPDATES TO KEEP WITH THE META. [.]Thanks for all the views and likes. Then, I have one last thing to say: If you master Udyr, you will master the wild.
