Hello, I'm Dyomaeth and I'll show you in this guide how I play Galio. I'm making this guide because I feel like people really overlook Galio as a champion, and it's uncalled for. Galio is unique as a champion because he's both a spellcaster and a tank. He can burst his enemies and protect his allies in the same time. He's extremely durable. He has arguably the best ultimate in the game. If you feel like you want to read my advice on the Stone Guardian, read on.

Standard tank runes. I usually take flat ones, but magic resist and armor per level are fine substitutes and really allow better transition into late game. I take magic penetration marks because I skip the magic penetration mastery and I don't want to lose any damage.

[title][img=skills/galio/p.png] Passive: Runic Skin[/title] [number]Galio converts 50% of his total Magic Resistance into Ability Power.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This awesome passive let's you dish out some damage as you build MR and nicely rounds up his kit. [title][img=skills/galio/q.png] Q: Resolute Smite[/title] [number]Galio fires a concussive blast from his eyes, dealing 80/135/190/245/300 (+70% of ability power) magic damage to enemies near the impact location, and reducing their movement speed by 24 / 28 / 32 / 36 / 40% for 2.5 seconds. Cost 60/65/70/75/80 mana Range 900 [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] His strongest damaging nuke. Hits like a truck but it's tricky to hit a moving target with it because the projectile is kinda slow so try to lead your enemies with it and don't get too trigger happy with it beause it's easy to dodge. You should max this out first because the slow and damage scale amazingly with ranks. To farm cast this on the caster minions to wipe them out. [title][img=skills/galio/w.png] W: Bulwark[/title] [number]Galio shields a friendly champion for 3.5 seconds, increasing their Armor and Magic Resistance by 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90. Each time the unit suffers damage, Galio is healed for 25/40/55/70/85 (+30% of ability power) (-20% healing for each consecutive hit). Cost 60mana Range 800[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] The way you use this will determine whether you're a good or a bad Galio. In teamfights use this on your carry to protect it. In laning use this to defend yourself from assaults and to sustain yourself. You can also simply use it to grant yourself a bit more AP and make your burst hit harder. This powerful shield will almost nullify the enemy's damage output throught the game. Just keep in mind that Ignite is a hard counter to this. Rank this ability second. [title][img=skills/galio/e.png] E: Righteous Gust[/title] [number]Galio unleashes a gust of concussive wind that deals 60/105/150/195/240 (+80% of ability power) magic damage to all enemies in its path. A directional draft remains for 5 seconds, increasing the movement speed of allies passing through it by 20/28/36/44/52%. Cost 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 mana Range 10000 [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A line nuke/haste. It deals less damage than Resolute Smite but it's much easier to land. Use this to reach your desired destination faster, to haste your allies, to initiate fights and to run from ganks. It's a very cool ability but rank this up last because you need your Q and W first. Get one rank of it for easier farming and utility. [title][img=skills/galio/r.png] R: Idol of Durand[/title] [number]Galio channels for 2.5 seconds, taunting nearby foes and blocking 50% of incoming damage. After channeling, Galio deals 220 / 330 / 440 (+85% of ability power) magic damage to surrounding enemies, plus an additional 10% damage for each attack he suffered while channeling. Max 80% bonus damage. Cost 100 / 145 / 190 mana Range 550 [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Use this with Flash to initiate teamfights and win them for your team. Aim to catch as many enemies in this as you can, even minions. Pay attention if your enemies are buying Tenacity, and if they are, you may want to cancel this early. 8 auto attacks on you cap the bonus damage so don't be afraid to buy Frozen Heart or Randuin. The cooldown is also VERY long (maybe the longest ability cooldown in the game) so use it only when you're sure you will win the fight with it. It also applies a 50% damage reduction on you. This reduces ALL damage you may take during the channel, except true damage. This may save you during a tower dive and you may end up getting a kill or two. Never forget that this is a channeled ability. Any interrupt will cancel this and champions that have ranged interrupts like Shen will try to cancel your ultimate. Don't use it on Blitzcrank with Power Fist ready, for obvious reasons.

QWQEQR and then just take skills in the order R>Q>W>E.

In early game you should abuse your strong range with [img=skills/galio/q.png] and harass. When needed [img=skills/galio/w.png] your allies or yourself to shield from enemy assaults. Farm using your Q>E combo if you have the solo mid or top lane. If you're assuming the bottom lane support role attempt to feed kills to your carry by shielding it, giving it haste with your E and slowing enemies with Q. When you get your ultimate place it well and you have a guaranteed kill. Galio is an excellent zoner. Ward the brushes and snipe enemies with your Q and deny them xp and last hits. Agressive play is very rewarding for Galio.

In mid game it's assumed that you have at least your [item=aegis-of-the-legion] and that you're ready to look for a fight. Do what Galio does best -push lanes, ward dragon and try to catch the enemy off guard, gather your team and retain map control. Teamfights are Galio's strongest spot. If your team hasn't fed too much and the game is fairly even, if not in your favor, you should be able to do your job successfully. Remember to keep an eye for your carries, disrupt the enemy ones and use your ultimate like a smart Gargoyle.

Late game is usually about Baron control and a few major fights. Galio doesn't shine in late game as much as tanks like Rammus but he still has his strong-ass ultimate. Pull off one properly and you're the man. Also, in late game you should be able to tank a turret for your team easily with Bulwark, so go on there and backdoor some turrets!

Galio isn't a jungler and doesn't really need any jungle buffs. Blue can be nice but there are better candidates for it like Anivia or Kassadin.

I hope my Galio guide is of use for you. This is still a work in progress and I'll update it in the coming days. Leave me your thoughts and tell me what needs improvement or what kind of info I may give.
