Udyr is currently one of the strongest junglers in the game due to his versatility if the game isn't a gank heavy one or if it is. He is easily the most durable jungle currently due to his skillset and the fact turtle stance is almost like a heal every few seconds if the shield is broken each time Udyr uses it.

For phoenix Udyr, I use full attack speed Marks and armor seals. These two are the most effective for the slot I've found and depending on what you want, you have your choice of Glyphs and Quints. Personally I prefer magic resist per level Glyphs and movement quints as I find I don't really need attack speed quints to help me clear now that I can spam Phoenix more due to the jungle giving back mana.

[title][img=skills/udyr/p.png] Passive: Monkey's Agility[/title] [number]Entering a stance grants Udyr 10% attack speed. This effect can stack.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This skill allows Udyr with a little bit of attack speed from runes to trash camps as when stacked, early game it's a nice 30% boost. Due to the small camps giving mana, it's fairly easy to make use of this passive as you shouldn't be running dry unless you are spamming it when the camp is nearly dead. [title][img=skills/udyr/q.png] Q: Tiger Stance[/title] [number]Activation: On his next attack, Udyr swipes at his target, dealing normal attack and dealing 150% of his attack damage + 30 / 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 extra damage over 2 seconds as magic damage. In addition, It increases attack speed 5% less than passive for 5 seconds. Persistent Effect: Udyr's attack speed is increased by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40%. Half of this is persistent, the other half is activated for 5 seconds. Cooldown 6 seconds Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] While this skill is very useful in a Tiger Udyr guide, it's less so here as you get it late and only use it to kill towers/barons faster. However late game you may find this more useful in a fight when you have a Trinity Force as people tend to constantly run meaning you'll only get one hit on them and you have to make it count. I'd personally tiger udyr early game if I were to run into something like Ashe+Janna. [title][img=skills/udyr/w.png] W: Turtle Stance[/title] [number]Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+50% of ability power) damage. Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores 10/12/14/16/18% of his damage as health and 5/6/7/8/9% of his damage as mana. Cooldown 6 seconds Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Early game this skill gives sustain ability to Udyr as well as proccing his passive to make him extremely strong in the jungle as he maintains high hp while stacking up his passive to use with Phoenix Stance. Mid-Late game this skill can be thought of as a short cooldown heal if the shield is broken each time it is cast. This skill is extremely effective with MR/Armor which is why my build doesn't build much health as this essentially scales off of MR/Armor due to it being harder to destroy if you have those stats (while health doesn't affect it). [title][img=skills/udyr/e.png] E: Bear Stance[/title] [number]Activation: Udyr gains 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27% increased movement speed for 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 seconds. Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds. Cooldown 6 seconds Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Fairly straight forward, it is the initiator for any gank as it stuns the target in place as well as acting as a gap closer due to the extra speed Udyr gets. I however don't recommend using this skill to move around the map early game UNLESS you have a blue buff or have a healthy mana reserve as the earlier levels can really drain your mana. [title][img=skills/udyr/r.png] R: Phoenix Stance[/title] [number]Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing 15/25/35/45/55 (+25% of ability power) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, Udyr's ability power is increased by 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 / 48 and his attack damage is increased by half of that amount. Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+25% of ability power) magic damage. Cooldown 6 seconds Cost 55/50/45/40/35 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This spell is extremely powerful towards groups of aoe champions and even single targets when you get the third attack proc. Often when fighting, you'll stay in this form until the cooldown is a couple seconds off and then you'll swap to turtle stance and instantly turn back to this form to deal maximal damage. This spell makes it easy to clear waves and small camps extremely fast while having decent single target damage and is most of the reason phoenix Udyr is so strong due to it's high base damage and passive benefits which allows him to build tank and still do tons of damage.

The reasoning for the skill order shown above is to just get the mana costs of certain skills down so that you can spam their powerful effects constantly. Phoenix being maxed first for obvious reasons, it allows faster clear and higher damage in teamfights/ganks. Maxing turtle second is also fairly obvious as it's benefits are huge and having a 220+ hp shield constantly being spammed makes Udyr near invincible with mana until late game. Bear stance is maxed later due to the later points not giving as much benefit as extra points in turtle and Phoenix. However I tend to put a point in Tiger before maxing bear as it might be handy for baron fights or tower killing to have Tiger's passive to be used between phoenix stances.

I start with [imgsmall=items/boots-of-speed.png][imgsmall=items/health-potion3.png] because it allows me to be near full health at every camp and I can always use the boots for an item later in the build. The movement speed bonus early helps in ganks and clear time as you spend less time traveling between camps. Since Udyr doesn't get that low in a clear, boots is a very good starting item on Phoenix Udyr. I follow up with a fast [imgsmall=items/mercurys-treads.png] or [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] due to their huge benefit on Udyr early game which allows him to outrun most of his opponents. Buying a [imgsmall=items/oracles-elixir.png] is situational on the ELO but where I play, it is extremely useful to blinding the enemy from the river and allowing for easy dragons or ganks later on. This also allows you to cross river to steal wraiths constantly. However sometimes I get [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png] early for fast gold gain. [imgsmall=items/wits-end.png][imgsmall=items/phage.png] are your sole damage item, a similar trend on most of the bruisers I play. This item combined with your attack speed runes, your passive and the fact you're constantly autoattacking means Udyr will be getting that much more damage in fights as well as constantly getting that MR boost from autoattacks. Even if the enemy is virtually entirely AD, the damage proc from this item is a huge bonus for the small cost to upgrade it. Phage works so well with the Wit's end as it gives you health that Wits doesn't give as well as a slow which will likely proc since you're attacking so fast. Lastly are the defensive items that'll make Udyr near invincible while he hopes his team cleans up behind him: [imgsmall=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png] is very strong vs mixed teams and very helpful to your allies. Considering most opponents won't all focus the tank first (especially a durable one such as Udyr), it's safe to say your aura will be on in the fight constantly unless you stray away from the person being focused down. I often get this item after Wit's End/Phage. [imgsmall=items/randuins-omen.png] I prefer this item over say Thornmail due to it's attackspeed reduction passive. That alone will stall ADs far longer than having slightly more armor. Not to mention the active is useful for slowing down targets to keep them in place or slow their attack speed for a lengthy duration. Get this early to use against heavy AD teams. [imgsmall=items/force-of-nature.png] should be fairly obvious when this is useful, it makes Udyr very hard to kill by magic damage and allows him to move fairly quickly outside of bear as well as heal him constantly. Often I'll have this item with the rest of my build unless the enemy sorely lacks magic damage as all the items combined give nice bonus health for this to use and regenerate from. [imgsmall=items/trinity-force.png] If you somehow have money left after Shrooms/Elixirs, this'll help with your Tiger stance which you'll rely on late late game as it does more damage than phoenix when you have Trinity.

Like almost every jungler, it's mostly about clearing camps and ganking when there is a good chance. However the biggest difference with Udyr is the fact that he can destroy the small camps in mere seconds, such a feat is far harder on others. Using this knowledge, Udyr can take either wraith camp on the map fairly safely due to his speed and durability if he does get caught. This also allows him to stall for time if a gank mid isn't currently open. While you won't have a early damage item due to you going Wit's End later in the build, Udyr is still dealing a significant amount of damage as opponents cannot damage one of the strongest early game tanks even with damage items. This allows for easy ward control with oracles and easy dragons if the opponents have lost all vision in the river area. The early merc treads on a champion that already moves fast and has turtle stance makes it very hard to die while clearing wards.

Mid game Udyr becomes one of the strongest champions on the map due to the fact this is the point where it's likely the AP carries won't one shot you and the AD carries don't have enough farm to melt Uydr. Using this fact, this allows Udyr to easily clear the map of wards constantly while making plays at dragon due to the fact that the enemy jungler won't be as durable as him. Most fights that occur outside of tower where Udyr tanks will likely result in a victory if Udyr's team follows up because of the amount of effort it takes to kill Udyr compared to everyone on the map.

Late game on Udyr you have two options depending on the opponents: You can either dive the enemy AD (or AP carry if they're not burst AP) to cover your squishier allies or you can remain beside your AD carry to peel off enemy bruisers if the enemy AD carry is too strong and likely melting you if you go in solo. Peeling off the enemy divers by stunning/slowing them constantly may benefit your team more if your AD carry is able to melt their bruisers or enemy AD/AP fast due to the fact they're able to shoot more often rather than being forced to walk back constantly because they can't handle being hit by the enemy diver.

Standard Route (no possible ganks): Wolves->Blue->Wraiths->Red OR Golems (if you think one is unsafe)->the other Buy or gank here then: Wolves->wraiths(or enemy if you think you can safely sneak it)->golems However always keep an eye on ganks while farming, it is very easy to wipe out the wraiths then check mid for a gank a 2nd time. Personally I think Phoenix Udyr is fairly straightforward as his counterjungling is easy, his ganks are fairly easy due to his speed. But all in all, Udyr is a very strong champion even at high level play due to his extremely high durability and damage when even going near full tank items.
