Check out my YouTube channel for lots of League of Legends Content! www.youtbe.com/brbteabreaktv Zilean is a very strong pick, usually seen in the competitive scene, but not as much in soloque due to his weak lategame damage, and only bringing utility, which can be a waste in soloque. Zilean in my mind though is a very viable pick if due to his amazing early game and if you have some sort of extreme hyper carry (Vayne, Poppy, etc) Allowing a champion to have a bonus GA on demand, and usually coming back with full HP is gamebreaker in competitive 5v5, but is hard to cordinate otherwise. I play Zilean as a AP carry mid, focusing on early game domination by shuting down the person i'm laning against and ganking whenever possible. Zilean is able to do insane amount of damage early-mid game with his double bomb, having the highest damage non-ulti skill in the game. He requires split second decision making in order to be 100% efficient.

The runes I have chosen are quite straight forward Reds: no Brainer, Magic Pen is best in slot Yellows: You could choose Manaregen per level, but this just brings along a weaker early game. That is why I go flat Manaregen, you may consider armor if you're laning against something nasty like Urgot or Talon. Blues: Flat AP is the strongest for early game. Though is gets beaten by AP per level at like level 6-7 if you can get a couple of good bombs of at level 3+ you can win the lane and ultimately the game. Quints:Flat AP is always good.

[title][img=skills/zilean/p.png] Passive: Heightened Learning[/title] [number]Increases experience gain of all allied champions by 8%.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] PASSIVE IS OP Thats all I can really say, allowing yourself to hit level 6 before your opponent is massive as AP, also it is global so all your lanes should have a slight edge due to this passive. [title][img=skills/zilean/q.png] Q: Time Bomb[/title] [number]Zilean places a time-delayed bomb on a target. After 4 seconds this bomb will detonate, dealing 90 / 145 / 200 / 260 / 320 (+90% of ability power) magic damage to all surrounding enemies. Cooldown 10 seconds Cost 70 / 85 / 100 / 115 / 130 mana Range 700 [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This does massive Damage early-mid game. This can be put onto allies/allied minions so make sure your not just clicking like a madman. This skill is amazing to harass with, double bombing and walking away will make your opponent cringe. Smart casting this is quite effective and a must in my opinion, as double bombing can be a pain having to try and click both times while trying to still stay in range. [title][img=skills/zilean/w.png] W: Rewind[/title] [number]Reduces all of Zilean's other spell cooldowns by 10 seconds. Cooldown 18 / 15 / 12 / 9 / 6seconds Cost 50mana Range 600[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This skill is freakin amazing, nearly as OP as Zileans passive. Lategame this allows you to have your ulti up all the time, and in rare cases twice in a teamfight. This allows you to double bomb also, which is core for zilean. This allows you to keep two targets buffed/slowed. At the same time Learn to utilize this to maximum potential to exceed at Zilean. Sometimes it is better to wait that 1-2 seconds for your bomb CD to end so you can double bomb straight after, instead of just mashing your keyboard and hoping you do the big deeps. While in well spam this if your ulti is on CD. [title][img=skills/zilean/e.png] E: Time Warp[/title] [number]Zilean slows an enemy champion's movement speed or increases an allied champion's movement speed by 55% for 2.5 / 3.25 / 4 / 4.75 / 5.5 seconds. Cooldown 20seconds Cost 100mana Range 700[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Mid-Lategame you can keep two targets buffed/debuffed at the same time. You can use this on your tanks to help engage(this is godly on Rammus) Or perma slow an enemy. Being able to fully utilise this is quite important and is quite game breaker if you can pull it off. Early game you can use this to harass the enemy. By speed boosting then double bombing you will be able to reach them even if they're trying to stay out of your range. [title][img=skills/zilean/r.png] R: Chrono Shift[/title] [number]Marks the target with a protective time rune for 7 seconds. If the target would take lethal damage, they are instead transported back in time regaining 600 / 850 / 1100 (+200% of ability power) of their health. Cooldown 180 / 160 / 140 seconds Cost 200 mana Range 900 [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Zileans signature skill, makes people praise or hate you. Landing a good ulti can turn a whole game around. This skill will change priorities on a game to game basis. You carrying? use on yourself Someone else on your team raping? use on them But outside of team fights proper use of this skill is quite important, as running bottom to counter gank you may need to ulti someone so they don't die, but if you ulti them you you might not be able to chase the opponents as aggressively. Split decision making is key. As long as you don't use this to early it should be fine, because if you use it early the enemy will change targets due to the large heal your ulti brings if they die. Using it to late in soloque may cause people to back out, and using it to late in arranged they may die before you get to them due to burst.

Straight forward, R>Q>W>E Grabbing a point in W at level 2 and a point in E and level 4. If you are really scared of a gank and you don't need to do as much damage grabbing E and level 2-3 is viable.

Will update...

Common lane matchups: [img=champ/akali.png]You should be able to beat her, as long as you can avoid her Q auto attack combo you'll be fine, once she hits level 6 you have to play a bit safer, but your double bomb combo will beat her as long as she doesn't commit. Just push lane and roam, she cant push the lane back as fast as you can clear. [img=champ/anivia.png]Kind of gay to lane against, if he hits you with his q into E you'll take serious damage, but other than that if he misses he has problems trading blows. Once level 6 if you go aggressive try to walk around his ulti. He will also push the lane back extremely hard with blue buff, just try and push it back and get a jungle gank. [img=champ/annie.png]You out range her, you should be able to dominate this lane, as usual just care for the stun as the damage comes out of nowhere. Even when she hits 6 you can ulti before her ignite kills you, which hopefully you can turn into a counter kill. [img=champ/brand.png]He can out range you, make sure to avoid his Pillar of Flame, if you get stunned you are likely to die(unless you ulti) due to his insane damage. If you go aggressive make sure to move between your bombs, as if you stay still it will allow him to set up his combo. Brand is very strong counter to Zilean if you don't know what you're doing. [img=champ/cassiopeia.png]Annoying as hell, she out ranges you hard. But once you get blue you should win, because you time warp and she'll be unable to hit you with her poison making her do no damage. Be careful for her ulti, which can make you drop really fast early. Zilean is one of the safest champs to pick against Cassiopeia, strong early harass is key to this. [img=champ/gragas.png]His only damage which is from his Barrel roll is easily avoidable, you should never get hit. Harass him hard, but focus on last hitting as Gragas has reasonable sustain for an AP. Also care when diving as his ulti will put you out of position. [img=champ/heimerdinger.png]Those rockets are annoying as hell. You should win this lane, just dont over commit due to his turrets doing massive damage when he ulti's. He is hard to push out of lane so last hitting is a good option here, he lacks damage without turrets so jungle ganks are very strong. [img=champ/karthus.png]Avoid his Q and his Wall and you'll be alright, due to your speed you'll win this lane. Pop in and out with bombs + time warp, he has poor sustain. Just time warp and run circles around him. And he should never kill you due to your ulti. [img=champ/kassadin.png]Can really go either way, if you let him off easy first 6 levels then you're going to lose your lane, you can trade to an extent but once he gets his E up he rapes you. Also due to rewind he is able to spam his ability quite often. [img=champ/kennen.png]Meh, he cant really kill you, just stand behind your minions and bomb when he overextends. He will have to pop everything in order to kill you, in which you just ulti to survive. Kennen is super hard to gank though, so you'll have to fight for yourself. [img=champ/leblanc.png]Will blow you up. When she dashes in bomb her before she can teleport back, you should win trades if she tries to keep fighting you like this. Using your ulti here is quite hard to judge, you could be 50% one second then dead the next, try to read your opponent and notice and changes in play to anticipate there moves. [img=champ/lux.png]Lol [img=champ/malzahar.png]Pushes hard, can be hard to harass down as his E may bounce to you, he can kill you in his combo before you can ulti, this is one of the champions where running Cleanse over ignite may be a good choice. [img=champ/morgana.png]Wait for her to shield then bomb her, she will just farm her lane and you cant really stop her, she has terrible sustain damage though if you can avoid binding and not stand in the pool. Her ulti is avoidable also due to time warp, you should beat her. [img=champ/orianna.png]Don't ever see her in solo que anymore due to nerfs. Just commons tips vsing her, dont stand still, keep moving. Her E shields alot! don't get baited into going for a kill. Dont try and trade auto attacks either due to her passive. [img=champ/ryze.png]He gets super tanky and just becomes a machine gun. You win early game but once he gets a tear and maybe a banshee its its super hard, if he can root you be prepared to run. His bind is alot lower range compared to overload, so if you get a overload to the face it is a good sign to run away. I try to avoid vsing ryze when possible, he is just so tanky you have problems bursting him down. [img=champ/sion.png]Has very low range on both his damaging skills, though his shield can absorb a very large portion of your bomb damage, so bombing after he blows his shield is key to winning this lane. He does just as much burst as you and is more tanky, be careful. [img=champ/swain.png]A strong counter pick to Zilean, if not the strongest. When you go in to bomb he will use E>Q>R on you, dealing massive damage and healing for what he lost in health, Prior to level 6 is when you win this lane, but once he gets catalyst his sustain is so high, try and deny him blue buff is possible. [img=champ/twistedfate.png]He 1 shots back minions at around level 7, if you see him use his CD's run at him, he lacks any kind of damage, as one is a skill shot and the pick a card is quite weak early on. His stacked deck bonus can be annoying though. Wild cards has a massive range (1,700 the fuck) you should win lane but it is very hard to deny him farm pass level 7. [img=champ/veigar.png]Lol [img=champ/vladimir.png]His pool can avoid your bomb damage which is quite annoying, but if he pulls he takes massive damage as the spell cost 20% of his current HP. Also the CD is very high on it so harass him after he pools. He will beat you in a straight up fight though, and if he ulti's you know shit is about to hit the fan. He also has good sustain, but he lacks the utlity, he is vulnerable early game as his CD's are really high. [img=champ/xerath.png]He out ranges you, but he lacks damage unless he ulti's. It is hard to deny him farm. Be careful of his harass as it is very easy to get hit by it. Before 6 is where you need to win the lane, make him back etc. You can still win a lane game against him but he'll just keep farming due to his range. When you seem him use an ability it is a good idea to go in for harass due to large CD's

[.]Smart casting your Time Bomb is a must, it is the only way to double bomb someone while they're moving. [.]If any minion/champion is carrying a bomb then dies, the bomb detonates. You can use this when farming by putting a bomb on a minion, then last hitting it, causing it to explode and hopefully kill all the other minions. [.]Using your TimeBomb wont agrro towers until it explodes, this allows you to harass even under towers. [.]Time Bomb is the hardest hitting non-ulti/non-accumulative damage(Siphoning Strike) in the game. [.]Bombing a target (friend or foe) with a bomb already on them, will cause the first bomb to explode, and leave the 2nd bomb on them ticking down. This is known as double bombing. [.]The detonation Range of the bombs is quite large, use this to your advantage when harassing/teamfights. [.]Zileans Manacost are extremely high mainly on his Timebomb and Chronoshift. Learning how much mana you need to doublebomb and Chronoshift is quite important, as it can be the difference between a kill or a death. [.]When you have bluebuff it's time to play very aggressive, you can punish enemies very hard causing them to leave lane, you can overextend to a point due to Chronoshift. When blue is over you must be much more mana conscious and play in a different mindset, which is much more passive/safe. [.]Zilean is a strong harasser and good burst damage, he has problems with sustained fights, pick your battles wisely. [.]Zilean has very very strong AP ratios, even though it only effects 2 of his abilites AP is a priority Stat for Zilean. [.]Use Time warp on enemies chasing you instead of on yourself when it's a one-on-one chase, regardless of who is chasing who. General Psychology will make the enemy back off earlier if you snare them, instead of boosting yourself. [.]Buffs are not lost when Chronoshift revives you, so by using your Time Warp before you die it will allow you to have a quick escape when you revive. This also works for allies, allowing them to escape also. [.]Like I said before about Chronoshift leaving buffs on you, such things as Pheonix Udyr sustain, but toggle abilities like Despair does not last. [.]If a target is about to die, sometimes it is a good idea to Time Bomb then Chronoshift, as now you have an invulnerable target with a bomb, who presumably is in the thick of things allowing you to deal massive damage. [.]Chronoshift should never been on CD for teamfights, if its on CD you are not using Rewind enough. [.]Your auto attack range is quite long, this is very strong against melle laners such as Gragas(low level) and Kassadin, as you will be able to TimeBomb>Rewind>Auto>Timebomb before they can even turn around. [.]Application of Timebomb can be blocked by shields (Banshees, Noctures Shield> But the detonation is not. [.]Placing TimeBomb on an invisible target will cause the bomb to also be invisible.

Agressive playstyle is key. Due to how your bombs work with delayed damage, being able to put 2 bombs on someone in a second and being able to walk away is very strong. Use your bombs effectively, its not very spammable, they do HUGE damage at low level. You can use your bombs to harass and deny the enemy farm, or you can kill them that works also. You are also quite a strong ganker, being able to slow the enemy, then doublebomb, and with your ulti you are able to fully commit to a kill, usually by ulting the person you're ganking with. As you have no damage outside your bombs, and it's not usually smart to dive someone with 100-200 HP if you have only auto attack damage. Mark sure you always have 200+ mana incase of a gank, as what the common mistake is to Time Warp away, but then be unable to cast Chrono Shift on themselves, causing a death.

Your damage is at its peak, abuse it, roam ,harass and get kills. Making sure to take advantage of your mid-game is crucial, you should be with your team, pushing towers as that's how you win games. Using your ulti effecively will give a very strong mid game.

Your bombs at this point aren't going to be as strong as Chuck Norris's round house kick, but you can still assist in damage. Make sure not to overextend as you are still the AP carry and will be focused. Sitting back and using all your skills effectively is much more important. Being able to speed allies, slow enemies, and do clutch ulites will turn the tides of most battles.

Zilean is super strong, and is one of the strongest AP carries in the game due to his utility. It does take practice to play him and he is quite intricate, and learning him is totally different to most AP carries, which is why I think he is so enjoyable to play. Remember you are not a killing machine, you will get kills, you will get assist but running into a 3v1 will end in you dieing(unless your fed as hell). Remember to take the Items with a bit of salt, there will be times where buying an early Chain Vest or Megatron clock is better, there is no use dealing massive damage if you spend 95% of the time dead. You can play mind games with your opponents and it is just fun to watch people run away with bombs on them, knowing that they'll die(trollface.jpg)
