He descended from one of the few tribes dedicated to the preservation of Wuju, a martial art founded with the principles of absolute spiritual awareness of one's self and one's enemy. When the armies of Noxus invaded Ionia, Master Yi joined in the Ionian defense to fight the craven enemy, bringing his village honor through his unparalleled mastery of the blade. The ensuing battles ravaged the land, but no conflict inflicted as much horror as the day the armies of Noxus closed in on Yi's village. Left undefended, the village became the unfortunate test subject of the latest invention by an up-and-coming chemist, now known as Singed. The remains of the village that Master Yi returned to were so horrific that it remains a festering scar on Ionian history. To this day, no Ionian will ever publicly speak of what occurred. After the Noxian invasion was contained, Master Yi fell into a deep isolation. For years, he trained morning to night, speaking to no one and refusing offers of consolation by fellow Ionians. The only thing stopping him from madly charging into Noxus battle lines headfirst was his pledge to keep the Wuju style alive. Even though he seethed with impatience, his rage became a tool for sharpening his practice of Wuju, developing stronger and deadlier skills for his eventual vengeance. The only thing that roused him was news of the League's formation, and Noxus' subsequent enrollment in the League. Master Yi now brings his mastery of the blade to the League of Legends with unflinching purpose: to avenge his kinfolk and end the predations of the Noxus once and for all. I haven't seen any good guides on AP Yi, and I hope that I can help make AP Yi more popular. I'm currently around 1650 ELO, trying to climb the ELO ladder. [title]Quick Introduction on AP Yi:[/title] In the laning phase, you are a farm [highlight]monster[/highlight]. With your Alpha Strike, you can easily do so. Regardless of having only one damaging ability, AP Yi is surprisingly viable and effective. Playing him in mid is pretty safe, and if you play smart, you won't have trouble with most mids. Timing is very important on AP Yi, and without a good sense of timing it'll be hard to be successful. AP Yi is an extremely easy champion to pick up and learn. [title]Pros & Cons[/title] Pros [.]Strong Farming and Nuke with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png], Amazing ratio of 1:1 [.][imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] gives you a gap closer, and is able to [highlight]disjoint[/highlight] spells [.]Great tanking and sustain with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], [highlight]Insane ratio[/highlight] [.][highlight]Free AD[/highlight] steroid from [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png], good for last hitting & early game damage [.]Getting kills with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png]refreshes cooldowns [.]Great Pentakill/Multikill potential [.][highlight]Slow Immunity[/highlight] with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] [.]Trades hits exceptionally well in lane [.][imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] and [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png], along with a [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] makes you very adept at pushing. [imgext=http://i45.tinypic.com/2z8tbom.jpg] 9 Magic Pen Reds 9 Mana Regen Per/lvl Yellows 9 Magic Resist Blues 3 AP Quints There is wiggle room for runes, take whatever you're comfortable with. Not a huge deal if you change a couple around. These runes give you a decent amount of AP in the early levels, and a good amount of M.pen which is useful all game long. The MR helps you against your lane opponent, and your mana regen per/lvl allows you to use you skills in lane more often. The reason you buy the per/level runes over the flat mana regen runes is the fact that by level 6 or so, the per/level runes break even. Much more worth it than flat.

[title][img=skills/masteryi/p.png] Passive: Double Strike[/title] [number]Master Yi strikes twice every 7th attack.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Early game, don't overlook this passive. If you [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] onto somebody and hit them with a [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/p.png], it will do a huge amount of damage, especially if you have your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] activated. Very good early harass if you use it with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png]. No it does not proc [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] twice. Helps with towers and last hitting, remember to keep your eye on the counter. [title][img=skills/masteryi/q.png] Q: Alpha Strike[/title] [number]Master Yi leaps across the battlefield striking up to 4 enemies, dealing 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 (+100% of ability power) magic damage to each enemy with a 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60% chance to deal 400 bonus magic damage to minions. Cooldown 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 seconds Cost 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 mana Range 600[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Your bread and butter skill. Your main source of damage, your main farming tool, your main harass tool, your nuke, your best friend. In lane, you should mainly be using this for last hitting. When you get the chance to harass your enemy, you should. Bring the minion wave down to 3 minions and your lane opponent if you want to harass. This way you can get 3 CS while effectively harassing the enemy champion for a good amount of damage. This skill is the reason you have such a good multikill potential. [title]Things to Note:[/title] [.]You will always finish your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] on the target you originally casted it on, unless the target dies before the animation finishes. In such a case, you will end up where you started the [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png]. [highlight]Be careful[/highlight] of what you cast it on, you might just end up in the middle of the enemy team. [.]It will not cast onto targets in the fog of war. Be weary of this. [.]Although the cast range 600, you can chain together targets. If an enemy with low health is getting away, try casting onto a nearby enemy minion/champion, you might get a lucky bounce with your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] [.]Not only can it be used offensively, but it can be used defensively. Try using it disjoint spells, or to escape. [title][img=skills/masteryi/w.png] W: Meditate[/title] [number]Master Yi channels, restoring 140 / 280 / 420 / 560 / 700 (+165% of ability power) health over 5 seconds. While channeling, Master Yi gains 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 armor and magic resistance. Cooldown 35 seconds Cost 70 / 85 / 100 / 115 / 130 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] An amazing skill. You can use this for insane baiting, insane tanking, and insane sustain. The cooldown is a bit long, but manageable. [imgsmall=champ/karthus.png] ult coming down on you? Not gonna do much. Tower shot about to kill you? Not anymore. Cocky enemy [imgsmall=champ/brand.png] thinks he can tower dive you? LOL good one. At max level, [highlight]300 armor and magic resist[/highlight] is no joke. That, along with insane healing, makes you heal more than [imgsmall=champ/annie.png] can nuke. If you're in the middle of a battle and your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] is on cooldown, try using your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] to burn time. [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] is an outstanding skill for making big plays, but remember to [highlight]watch out for CC[/highlight]. A simple silence can make your big play turn into a terrible situation where you're in the middle of an enemy team. Keep in mind that getting a kill with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] will reset the cooldown of [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], making your tower dive not so risky. This skill makes you so tanky that the enemy will be ripping their hair out. Remember that you can use it to keep you in lane longer, it heals for [highlight]a lot[/highlight], especially with AP Yi. [title][img=skills/masteryi/e.png] E: Wuju Style[/title] [number]Passive: Increases physical damage by 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35. Active: Master Yi can activate this ability to double its effectiveness for 10 seconds, but this removes the passive bonus until Wuju Style becomes available again. Cooldown 30 seconds Cost 40 mana Range 20[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A decent skill on AP Yi. Not as useful as it would be on AD Yi, but hey, it's free AD. Who'd complain? Early game, the passive bonus helps you last hit in lane. Also, in conjunction with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] and [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/p.png], this becomes an extremely potent harass in lane. Without activating this skill, it gives you a decent 35 AD. When activated, it gives you an insane 70 AD. A cool thing to note is that if you activate this and get a kill while your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] is activated, it will refresh the passive of [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png], making your 70 AD turn into [highlight]105 AD[/highlight]. Remember not to cast the skill again after getting the kill though, because it will revert the 105 AD back into 70 AD. In simpler words: Activate [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] = 70 AD + Kill with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] = 105 AD (as long as you don't recast the skill) [title][img=skills/masteryi/r.png] R: Highlander[/title] [number]Increases Master Yi's movement speed by 40% and Attack Speed by 40 / 60 / 80%, and he becomes immune to all slowing effects for 6 / 9 / 12 seconds. Additionally, killing a champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns. (Assists reduce half of the base cooldown amount.) Cooldown 75 seconds Cost 100 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This is what defines Master Yi. Remember that while using this ultimate, every second counts. Timing is extremely important, especially at rank 1, where the duration is only 6 seconds. Don't forget that [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] gives you an [highlight]immunity to slows[/highlight], making you hard to chase. Even on AP Yi, [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] + [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] makes you a great pusher, and deceptively strong with auto attacks. Remember not to activate [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] and [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] again after cooldowns reset, in order to maximize your damage potential. The refreshing cooldown is what makes this ability so amazing on AP Yi, allowing his main nuke to be used multiple times in a fight, and allowing himself to make clutch plays.

[title]R>Q>W>E[/title] [highlight]R:[/highlight] Most champions prioritize their ult over their other skills. Your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] is no different. It's the skill that your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] revolves around. [highlight]Q:[/highlight] Your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] is most of your burst. The rest of it comes from items. This is your main farming skill, and an effective harass in lane. Max this skill first. [highlight]W:[/highlight] In lane, this is the skill that brings you from near death, to full health. Your sustain is insane with this skill. Not only that, but you become a tank while it's active. It gives you the ability to tank tower shots with ease. [highlight]E:[/highlight] Although this skill is good, it's not the best for AP Yi. Nonetheless, it's still useful in the laning phase to help you last hit. When used with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/p.png], it makes you do a lot more damage than you'd expect. With an early [imgsmall=items/sheen.png], it does even more.

[center][title]Starting Items[/title][/center] [center][img=items/boots-of-speed.png][img=items/health-potion3.png][/center] There isn't really anything better to start with. [imgsmall=items/boots-of-speed.png] help you evade ganks and dodge skillshots. The [imgsmall=items/health-potion3.png] start helps you stay in lane longer. If you are feeling [highlight]really[/highlight] confident in your ability to win the lane, go ahead and get a [imgsmall=items/dorans-ring.png], but you will rarely do that. [center][title]Early Game Goals[/title][/center] [center][img=items/dorans-ring.png][img=items/blasting-wand.png][img=items/sheen.png][img=items/haunting-guise.png][/center] More [imgsmall=items/dorans-ring.png] makes you a bit more tanky, gives you more damage, and mana regen. You should pick up at least 2 if you're having an average game, 3 if you're having a bad game, and 1 if you're doing amazing. The early [imgsmall=items/sheen.png] adds to your burst very well, making your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] more effective as well. You should aim to pick up a [imgsmall=items/blasting-wand.png] by around the mid game as it gives you a good amount of AP for a good price, and is also a component of a [imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png]. The [imgsmall=items/haunting-guise.png] is a fantastic buy for early game dominance. The perfect item to keep you ahead of your laning opponent. It builds into a [imgsmall=items/liandrys-torment.png] which makes it an even more potent item. [center][title]Boots Choice[/title][/center] [center][img=items/mercurys-treads.png] [title]or[/title] [img=items/sorcerers-shoes.png][title]or[/title] [img=items/ionian-boots-of-lucidity.png][/center] You can choose your boots according to the situation. Enemy team has a lot of CC and/or their AP carry is ahead of you? Might be a good idea to pick up [imgsmall=items/mercurys-treads.png]. You're facerolling the other team? Pick up some [imgsmall=items/sorcerers-shoes.png] to stay ahead. Pick cdr boots when you have some issues with timing, it might help you. [center][img=items/enchantment-alacrity.png] [title]or[/title] [img=items/enchantment-homeguard.png][/center] Your choice of tier 3 boots is up to you, but these are my two favorite choices. I don't get my tier 3 boots until after my core items. [center][title]Core Items[/title][/center] [center][img=items/rabadons-deathcap.png][img=items/lich-bane.png][/center] These two items are [highlight]extremely[/highlight] vital to your build. Your [imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png] gives you insane amounts of AP. On top of the 140 AP it gives you, it also gives you +30% to your total.[imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] gives you everything you need: More AP, MR, mana, and even MS. On top of that, the Unique effect is actually [highlight]physical damage[/highlight]. Together, these two items give you a great amount of burst, and enough AP for your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] to be [highlight]very[/highlight] effective. [center][title]Great Item Choices[/title][/center] [center][img=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png][/center] Very good choice, especially if the enemy team has a lot of physical damage. The great part of this item is the fact that you have a 2 second period where you are rendered [highlight]invulnerable and untargetable[/highlight]. These 2 seconds could mean the difference between have that [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] or [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] up in time to pull off a big play. Be careful when using it though, you might end up in a bad situation. [center][img=items/deathfire-grasp.png][/center] Another great choice. In season 3, the DFG works differently than it did in season 2, but is still a fantastic item to buy. Increases your damage by a good margin and you should definitely consider buying it. [center][img=items/liandrys-torment.png][/center] This item is fantastic, it gives you great magic pen and the bonus % damage from it is amazing. If you bought a [imgsmall=items/haunting-guise.png] in the early game, then you will want this item for sure. This alongside [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png] is great against high MR teams. [center][img=items/void-staff.png][/center] A simple and effective item. Gives you a decent amount of AP, and an amazing 40% magic pen. I Highly recommend building this, unless the enemy team has nobody building MR (in which case it's still good). Rarely will you see this though, especially in higher levels of play. Remember that having both [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png] and Arcane Knowledge (the mastery that gives you 10% magic pen) adds up to only [highlight]46%[/highlight], because they stack multiplicatively. Still a very cost efficient item to buy. [center][img=items/abyssal-scepter.png][/center] Good defensive item if you're falling behind the enemy AP carry, or if the enemy team has a lot of magic damage. Not only is it a defensive item, but the -20 MR to enemy champions from the unique passive is a good offensive effect that synergizes well with the item. The debuff also applies to minions and jungle creeps, with the exception of Baron and Dragon. Keep in mind that the enemy will see the debuff if they are in range, even if you are hiding in the brush. [center][img=items/guardian-angel.png][/center] Gives you useful defensive stats, along with an amazing unique passive. The fact that it revives you can either be extremely good, or completely useless. It is one of the only two items in the game that offers armor and magic resist (the other being [imgsmall=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png]). A couple cool things to note: [.]Selling and buying the item again does not reset the cooldown for the unique passive. [.]It will not activate if you die to the fountain turret (so don't try to fountain dive!) [.]Spirit visage actually affects the health gain from revival, going from 750 health upon revival, to 863 health. [center][title]Decent Item Choices:[/title][/center] [center][img=items/quicksilver-sash.png][/center] Effective item to pick up against the enemy AP if they have a strong CC skill, like [imgsmall=champ/malzahar.png], or maybe [imgsmall=champ/morgana.png]. The MR also helps a lot, especially if the enemy team has a lot of magic damage. [center][img=items/will-of-the-ancients.png][/center] A decent item, good for in lane sustain, and could also help you in close situations. Not the best item choice, but it's up to you. All about preference and situation. [center][img=items/spirit-visage.png][/center] If you're not doing too well at mid, or if there's a lot of magic damage on the other team, you can pick this up. Gives you better sustain and MR. Situational buy here. [center][img=items/thornmail.png][/center] A decent defensive choice against a fed/strong AD character. This + [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] = lots of armor and damage return. [center][title]Bad Item Choices[/title][/center] [center][img=items/archangels-staff.png][/center] You honestly don't need the mana that much, and it takes a long time to build up. Too much of a hassle in my opinion. [center][img=items/athenes-unholy-grail.png][/center] AP Yi isn't that mana hungry, and your runes will help with your mana regen anyway. I can see how it'd be a good item, but there are better choices out there. Try using this on [imgsmall=champ/galio.png] or something. [center][img=items/hextech-gunblade.png][/center] I saw this on another guide where the author wanted to transition from AP Yi to hybrid Yi, where you buy some AD items like [imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] and [imgsmall=items/hextech-gunblade.png]. [highlight]You are playing AP Yi to nuke, not to be the hyper carry AD Yi[/highlight] that we all know and love. Also, you don't need to buy AD items to backdoor as AP Yi, your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] and [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] makes you extremely efficient at backdooring, especially with [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png]. Not a good buy. [center][img=items/morellos-evil-tome.png][/center] This item falls behind the [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] in pretty much every way. If you want an item that builds out of a GP10, look no further than a [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png], which has a better active and more AP on it. [center][img=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png][/center] You don't really need more HP, and the slow isn't that amazing. Your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] already allows you to keep up with the enemy. Kinda a pointless buy to me, but it's up to you. Get it if you really want to, but there are better choices out there. [center][img=items/rod-of-ages.png][/center] You definitely don't need this one. The active from [imgsmall=items/catalyst-the-protector.png] isn't that useful to you, since your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] will be taking good care of you. The extra health and mana isn't necessary at all, and the AP is mediocre at best. [center][img=items/mejais-soulstealer.png][/center] Although AP Yi [highlight]does[/highlight] snowball very hard, I don't recommend this item. Yes, you could use it exceptionally well, but at the same time, you could be wasting your gold on a gamble. If you feel [highlight]extremely[/highlight] confident in your ability to snowball in the game, then feel free to buy this item, but if you have any doubt at all, it might be in your best interest to just skip it. There are other great choices anyway.

[center][img=items/runic-bulwark.png][/center] Lots of MR on somebody = Sad Yi. This applies to any AP champ in general. Runic Bulwark replaces the FoN as the high end MR item. [center][img=items/banshees-veil.png][/center] The single best counter to Yi. MR and it blocks Yi's one and only spell. If you need to counter a snowballing AP Yi, look no further. [center][img=items/maw-of-malmortius.png][/center] Good item for bruisers to pick up. Gives a good shield when you get to a certain amount of health. [center][img=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png][/center] If the enemy AP mid picks this up, it can get annoying. The active makes it so they can possibly turn around a situation or wait for their team.

AP Yi has a pretty strong laning phase. As AP Yi, you should easily be ahead of your enemies. Your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] allows you to farm and harass the enemy at the same time. Your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] hits 4 targets. The wraith camp has exactly 4 targets! It was made to be killed by a perfect [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png]. Be careful of ganks, and remember to buy a few [imgsmall=items/sight-ward.png] if you need to. I always pick up at least 1 on my first back, unless I'm so ahead that I can afford a [imgsmall=items/needlessly-large-rod.png] on the first back alone. Don't forget to call MIA either, or at least ping the enemy's potential path. Once you poke the enemy down low enough with your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png], slowly build up your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/p.png], save enough mana for your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] and [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png], and you can go in for the kill. Your auto attacks do a lot more damage than you think in the early game, especially if you have [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] activated. Also remember that if the enemy is giving you a hard time, you have [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] for a reason! It heals you for [highlight]a lot[/highlight]. You can also use it to reduce burst from the enemy mid, but be careful for CC. They could make you waste your entire [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], or they could kill you if you're low enough. Remember to ask for blue buff when it comes up, it'll help a lot in lane. [title]Quick Summary:[/title] Farm like hell, poke like hell, get the kill when you can. [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] when needed.

By now, you should have your upgraded boots, [imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png], and hopefully a [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png]. If not, you probably have at least a [imgsmall=items/sheen.png]. Your burst should be pretty strong by now, especially if you're doing a good job against your lane opponent. If you're still in the laning phase, continue harassing your opponent while farming (and remember to take wraiths when you can!). When you find good opportunities, go in for the kill! Out of the laning phase, Yi is pretty mobile, and his ganks are pretty strong. If your team is in need of assistance, gank for them! If the enemy is pushing too hard and you are confident you'll be able to kill them, don't hesitate. Also remember that by now you should be aware of dragon, and attempt to take it when the opportunity is presented. [imgsmall=items/sight-ward.png] are still very important, and you should pick them up if you get the chance. Just because you're not the support, doesn't mean you shouldn't ward. Don't forget about calling MIA. Also, around the 20 minute mark, you should be taking down the enemy's first mid turret. If you took it down much sooner than that, feel free to help your teammates take down their enemy turrets. [title]Quick Summary:[/title] Farm like hell, poke like hell, get the kill when you can. Gank if the opportunity comes up, and don't forget to play the objective. Dragon is important at this point of the game.

Your build should be pretty complete now. Your burst and meditanking is insane by now, and anybody caught alone is pretty much dead (unless they have insane health and MR). Baron is now an important objective to watch for at this point. Because of this, wards are more important now than ever. Don't forget that with your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png], [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png], and [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png], you push like a beast. Also, you shouldn't be the first one going in, you should be going in when you find a good opportunity for you to get a kill, so that you can refresh your skills with [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png]. Be careful in the late game, as getting caught could potentially throw the game. [title]Quick Summary:[/title] Don't get caught, play the objective. Baron is a huge factor now. Farm if you need, and work toward finishing the build. Win.

In team fights, you should not be the first person going in (unless you can burst down 2 people no problem). Try going for the easiest kill to you first, so that you can refresh your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png]. Using multiple [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] in quick succession, along with [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png], easily breaks down a team. If you have to burst somebody from 100 to 0, in order for you to refresh your skills, do it. If you have to secure a kill from 10 health, do it. Having more [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] in a fight makes a huge difference. When your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] is down, then use [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] or [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] to burn time (or you can just run away for a bit, and then run back into the fight when your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] is up). [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] adds a lot of damage. In a fight, hitting somebody with a high AP [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] proc is no joke. If you picked up a [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png], your initial burst on somebody goes up [highlight]very[/highlight] high. The enemy ranged AD carry will probably blow up if you get to them. Don't forget that you can use [imgsmall=summoners/flash.png] to pull off big plays. Be weary of CC. Don't initiate when the enemy hasn't used any CC yet, but at the same time, don't wait until the enemy uses all their CC in a 4v5 against your team before you go in. Look for good opportunities to join the fight. [title]Quick Summary:[/title] Use [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] all day. Burst people down when you find the opportunity. Play smart, don't run in when the enemy has all of their CC ready for you.

If you're looking to do the most damage possible to one target, your combo is easy: [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] ->[imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] -> [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] -> [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] This combo lets you deal a huge amount of damage to somebody, easily killing the enemy carry. This is just single target burst. In a fight with multiple people, it'd be more like this: [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/r.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/e.png] -> [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] -> [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] -> PENTAKILL! Obviously it won't be a Pentakill every time, but it's the basic idea. Drop huge initial burst on somebody, refresh the CD on [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png], then keep spamming it. Remember not to neglect [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png]. If you're in trouble in the fight, it can effectively save you. Since it turns you into a huge sponge, your team should be doing their job while you tank/bait. [highlight]Timing is important! Play smart and you'll have lots of fun.[/highlight]

When picking AP Yi, you'll need to make sure the rest of your team understands what's going down. You should make it clear that you're going to play AP Yi, so there's no confusion during the picking phase. It might also be a bad idea if most of your team is against the pick. In terms of team composition, AP Yi is a good pick when your team has good survivability a good amount of CC. When playing as Yi, you won't have any CC so it's good to have a team that makes up for it. It's probably not optimal to run double AP with Yi either, it's better if you have a bruiser with some from of CC at top. You won't want somebody like a [imgsmall=champ/janna.png] on your team, because her ult will push the enemy away, while AP Yi prefers that the enemy is bunched up. On the other hand, [imgsmall=champ/alistar.png] or [imgsmall=champ/taric.png] would be good supports to have. As for junglers, you won't want somebody that needs blue buff, like [imgsmall=champ/fiddlesticks.png], you'll want somebody durable that has CC, possibly [imgsmall=champ/amumu.png] or [imgsmall=champ/nautilus.png]. Top lane should have somebody durable with CC too, like [imgsmall=champ/jax.png] or [imgsmall=champ/shen.png]. Probably teamfight oriented bruisers. It's best if you pick a team geared strongly toward teamfights and AoE. This way you maximize Yi's strengths and abilities.

[center][highlight]Easy -> Medium -> Difficult -> Hard[/highlight][/center] [center][title]Ahri[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/ahri.png][/center] Somewhat difficult to lane against. If she can land her charm on you, she can land her whole combo on you. Her built in spell vamp also makes her difficult to whittle down. Try your best to farm, and if you need to meditate, don't do it where she can land an easy charm on you. Use it behind minion waves, or back at tower if you need to. At level 6, [imgsmall=champ/ahri.png] has a good chance of killing you. Play it safe if you need to, and continue poking her down. Take wraiths when you find the opportunity to [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Akali[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/akali.png][/center] Pretty easy to deal with. Her shroud makes her tricky to lane against, but your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] should care for you pretty well. Farming against her shouldn't be too huge of a problem. Play carefully when your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] is down though, you're gonna need it. If her shroud is giving you too much trouble, buy a pink ward. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Anivia[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/anivia.png][/center] Her stun makes her a bit of a challenge to lane against. Pre-level 6, you should have a pretty easy time. Once she gets her ult though, she'll be able to land her double damage frostbite way more easily. Careful for her wall too, if you [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] into a bad position, she could wall you into a favorable position for her. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Annie[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/annie.png][/center] Definitely a hard matchup. [imgsmall=champ/annie.png] stun is very effective against you, and you should be cautious of it. Pre-Level 6, the lane shouldn't be that much trouble. Once she hits level 6 though, you're gonna have a bad time. Her level 6 burst, and unless you play it extremely safe, or play it smart, you probably won't make it. Your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] will help though, but her stun will become problematic. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Brand[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/brand.png][/center] As long as you take advantage of the minion waves, you should be pretty safe against him. In lane, poking him down will be no problem. The only issue is if you give him an easy opportunity to land his stun combo. Don't let this happen! If you need to [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], do so near tower. Your harass will be stronger than his. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Cassiopeia[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/cassiopeia.png][/center] A bit of a pain in the butt to lane against, especially if it's a skilled player. She has a strong harass, and is very good at zoning. At level 6, if she catches you with her ult, she has a very good chance of killing you. Stick to farming and harassing and you should be okay though. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Cho'Gath[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/chogath.png][/center] Cho is difficult matchup. He has two disrupts for your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], an AoE knock up, and an AoE silence. His sustain in lane is insanely strong, and his vorpal spikes help him last hit. At level 6, he has a true damage ultimate, which is very good against you. Even your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] can't save you against that. This will probably end up being just a farm lane, but if you do get caught by him you're in trouble. Later on he just gets more and more tanky. [highlight]Verdict: Hard[/highlight] [center][title]Ezreal[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/ezreal.png][/center] AP Ezreal should be theoretically easy. It all depends on the player's skill in skillshots. Dodging his skillshots might be a challenge, or it might not. But, Yi is an effective pick against Ezreal. If he does poke you down enough, your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] will heal you for a good portion of your health. He doesn't have any CC to stop you either, which is just perfect. Having a set that has primarily skillshots is a good thing for you. His ult is even easier to dodge due to the channel period. Don't get too greedy, or overextend though, he does have a built in flash. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Fiddlesticks[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/fiddlesticks.png][/center] I've never gone up against a middle fiddle, but it probably won't be too hard. Careful for his crow's bounces while using [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png]. If anything, you should use it when you're near tower. Also watch out for his fear. His drain makes him sustain pretty well too, but I think this lane is winnable. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Fizz[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/fizz.png][/center] Fizz might be a bit tricky to go up against. He has a heal-reduction skill, a disjoint (which if timed correctly, can disjoint your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png]), and a strong ultimate. Might be hard to play against, so just farm and harass when you can. Don't play too crazy against him, might not turn out too good. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Galio[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/galio.png][/center] Galio is built to counter AP mids, and AP Yi is no exception to this. You will have a hard time in this lane, especially if you let him land easy shots onto you. His bulwark gives him decent sustain as well. At level 6, once he gets his taunt, you should play very safe. If he can land a full combo on you, things won't be looking too bright. [highlight]Verdict: Hard[/highlight] [center][title]Gragas[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/gragas.png][/center] Not too difficult of a lane. Pretty much a huge farm fest at mid. At level 6, his ult can give you some issues. If he ults you onto his tower or into a gank, that's bad news for you. Play carefully and you'll be good. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Heimerdinger[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/heimerdinger.png][/center] He really shouldn't be giving you any issues. Don't put yourself in a bad position where you're meditating in between two of his turrets though, that's bad news. His rocket harass won't do much when you have [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png]. You should easily outfarm him. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Janna[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/janna.png][/center] It's just gonna be a huge farm fest at mid lane in this matchup. If you do have any trouble, it'll be from ganks. [imgsmall=champ/janna.png] has a knockback, knockup, and slow. This makes her lane a very easy lane to gank for, so if they have a decent jungler, be prepared. Don't be greedy with flash if you feel you might not get away. Otherwise, it's just gonna be a huge farm fest. Remember to call MIA! [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Karthus[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/karthus.png][/center] In lane he should be no problem. Be careful for his walls, the MR reduction is pretty strong, and it slows pretty hard. Be very careful for his ult. Of course your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] will cover for you if he ults and it's up, but it might be bad news for your teammates. Try to dodge his lay waste and you'll be good. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Kassadin[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/kassadin.png][/center] Pretty annoying in lane. His silence is pretty strong against you, and makes your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] less effective. Pre-level 6, it's not that bad, just farm and harass. Once he gets his blink, things get more interesting. He'll be trying to harass you to the best of his ability and mana. Play carefully on this one, especially once he gets blue buff. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Katarina[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/katarina.png][/center] There is no difficulty in this lane, besides the fact that she has a heal reduction. When she ults, you can easily [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] and block out a lot of the damage. You should do pretty well in this matchup. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Kayle[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/kayle.png][/center] This can be a tricky one. She has pretty good damage output, and her ult makes her invulnerable. Careful of this one. Like I said on other tricky matchups, stick to farming and harassing. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Kennen[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/kennen.png][/center] This guy doesn't really do bad in any lanes. He won't really have much trouble in lane with you, and you won't have much trouble with him. Make sure you don't get caught by his stun and you'll be okay. Once he gets his ult, he has the potential to kill you. Farm and harass, at 6, play it safe. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Kog'Maw[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/kogmaw.png][/center] Has has a strong poke, so try your best to dodge it. With level 2 boots, it won't be that much trouble. If he does poke you down enough, [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] and it'll be good. Remember that the more he uses his ult, and the faster he uses it, the more mana he burns. Letting him use his poke on you, only to heal it all back could be profitable. [highlight]Verdit: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]LeBlanc[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/leblanc.png][/center] With her silence and burst, she is definitely a threat in lane. Once she hits level 6, start playing safer. If she lands a combo on you, it could be GG. You might wanna get an extra point on [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] early. Stick to farming and harassing. Her Q-R combo is on a deceptively short cooldown, so don't underestimate it. [highlight]Verdict: Hard[/highlight] [center][title]Lulu[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/lulu.png][/center] Lulu is very strong at mid, despite being made for the support role. She has a strong poke and farming ability, and also a shielding skill. Her ult makes hard to tower dive, coupled with her shield, would making diving a bad idea. Stick to the farming on this one, and harass when you can. Careful for ganks, her knockup and slow, couple with a decent jungler, makes for some scary jungle pressure. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Lux[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/lux.png][/center] She has a stronger burst than most people think. Before level 6, watch out for her harass. If you take too much damage from it, your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] has got you covered. Once she hits 6 though, it's a different story. If she gets off her entire combo without your meditate, you're probably dead. Her ult does insane amounts of damage in the early-mid game. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Malzahar[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/malzahar.png][/center] This one isn't too bad. Basically he's gonna want to farm with his E, and harass you here and there with his DoT and silence. You might wanna be careful for his voidling, since you don't wanna waste your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] on it. Once he hits level 6, he does have a good potential to kill you. If he does get ahead of you, make sure you pick up a [imgsmall=items/quicksilver-sash.png]. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Maokai[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/maokai.png][/center] Don't underestimate this guy. His combo is surprisingly strong, and at level 6 it has even more potential. His sapling harass can get a bit tedious to dodge, but try to lead them into your minion wave. Don't use your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] close to him either, he can interrupt it. If the enemy has a strong jungler, be aware. [imgsmall=champ/maokai.png] can set up some pretty easy ganks. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Master Yi[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/masteryi.png][/center] In a normal game mirror matchup, playing against another AP Yi (which is probably going to be rare) is gonna be annoying. For the most part, your laning phase will be harassing and farming against each other. Try to stay ahead of the enemy Yi though, take wraiths and gank when possible. You shouldn't really die in this lane, and if you do, pick up some defensive items. Try not to let the enemy Yi snowball too hard. [highlight]Verdict: Depends[/highlight] [center][title]Mordekaiser[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/mordekaiser.png][/center] His shield makes him hard to harass, and he farms just as hard as you do. Try not to get into a 1v1 situation against him, because he will come out on top. The good news is, he has no CC whatsoever. You can easily [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] to reduce and/or heal his damage. If he catches you with your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] down, you're in some deep trouble, though. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Morgana[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/morgana.png][/center] She is crazy strong in lane. There's a good reason why she's banned so often in solo queue. Her ability to farm is very strong, and her sustain from her passive is too. If she lands a snare on you, try to [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] it off. If she doesn't have her ult yet, then you should be okay. Once she has her ult, start being more cautious. Try to keep your farm up with hers. Remember that her black shield blocks magic damage. Try not to waste your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] on it, but instead, try baiting her shield out. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Nautilus[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/nautilus.png][/center] AP Naut is scary to deal with. His kit comes with 4 different types of CC, which is insane. He has a snare, a hook, a slow, and a powerful knockup, coupled with his shield and damage, makes him difficult to deal with. If you stay behind minion waves, you should be pretty safe. If you need to use your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], wait until either he uses his CC, or until you're in a good position. Once he hits level 6 and gets his ult, you could be in trouble. If he catches you in a bad position, all he needs to do is ult you, pull to you, and then finish off his combo. If he doesn't kill you, you're either lucky, or ahead of him. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Ryze[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/ryze.png][/center] Ryze is just scary to deal with. He has crazy damage, and is very tanky. In lane, try not to get into straight up fights with him. Poking him down will be good enough. By mid/late game, he will be way stronger than you, unless you shut him down earlier. Ryze doesn't fall off late game, and is incredibly strong throughout a game. [highlight]Verdict: Hard[/highlight] [center][title]Sion[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/sion.png][/center] Definitely hard to deal with. All of his damage comes from 2 spells though (unless he buys items like [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] or [imgsmall=items/lich-bane.png]), so if you can somehow avoid one spell, that's pretty much half of his burst gone. With his shield, stun, and natural tankiness, you'll have a challenging time in this lane. His farming power is strong, if you can use your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] to blow up his shield so he can't push the lane easily, then try to do it. His ganking power is way better than yours, so don't give him a reason to leave the lane. If he does leave, you can notify your team or run over to help them. In lane his ult keeps him well sustained. Careful not to get into a bad position though, if your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] finishes in range of him, his stun will still do a good amount of damage to you. [highlight]Verdict: Hard[/highlight] [center][title]Soraka[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/soraka.png][/center] AP Soraka is a pain in the ass. She farms like [highlight]crazy[/highlight]. She has two heals, meaning that if you do poke her down low enough to go in for the kill, she could pull off one insane ass healbait. Be especially careful of this if she brings [imgsmall=summoners/heal.png] as a summoner. Also, she has a silence with no mana cost whatsoever, so she can spam it on you all day, and cancel your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] no problem. Don't let her outfarm you too hard, call for a gank if you need one. She's has no escapes besides [imgsmall=summoners/flash.png], assuming she brings it. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Swain[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/swain.png][/center] Swain does a pretty good job in the midlane. Pre-level 6, just try your best to dodge his snares and to farm and poke him. Careful for his damage though, he does a lot more than you probably think. Once he hits level 6, his damage and sustain go up a lot. If you get caught by his snare without your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] up, you're in deep trouble. Overall, this lane is decently easy to deal with, but his sustain turns it into a farm lane. Farm and harass is the way to go. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Tristana[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/tristana.png][/center] You're gonna have a hard time in this lane. Tristana has a strong escape/nuke, and a heal reduction DoT. Pre-level 6, she's gonna be annoying to lane with, sure, but you can trade blows with her without an issue. Once she gets her ult, it's a different story. She has a strong chance of bringing you from 100-0. Her ult isn't on that long of a cooldown, so don't risk it if you aren't sure. The good news is, she has no sustain, so if you poke her down enough, you can go in for the kill. Against a bad trist, it'll be an easy lane, but against a good one, you're probably gonna blow up. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Twisted Fate[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/twistedfate.png][/center] TF is definitely scary for your team to go against. Even if you do good against him in lane, his ult allows him to help his other lanes very easily, and to keep up with you. His wild cards make him farming easy. His pick a card gives him a lot of utility, with a stun, an AoE slow, and a mana gain. Be very vigilant with the MIA calls in this matchup. If he does leave lane to gank elsewhere with his ult, use the time to push the lane, or gank for another lane. Don't waste time just AFK farming, unless you have no other things to take care of. He doesn't have any sustain either, so poking him won't be that hard. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Veigar[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/veigar.png][/center] Veigar has such insane burst that it's not even funny. If you go against a decent Veigar who can land his stuns, you're gonna have a bad time. Once he gets his [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] and ult, you will no longer have fun in the lane, or for the rest of the game. Pre-level 6, try to give him an extremely hard time. Watch out for ganks though, Veigar's stun can set up extremely easy ganks. The problem with Veigar is that even if play smart and avoid his stun, his [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] + Q + ult combo is probably enough to kill you. [highlight]Verdict: Hard[/highlight] [center][title]Viktor[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/viktor.png][/center] Pre-level 6 he should be pretty easy to trade with, and there's definitely no challenge there. Just make sure you don't use [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png] in a place where he can drop an easy stun on you. His laser is hard to land, so you shouldn't have that hard of a time dodging it. At level 6, careful for his ult. It silences and does [highlight]a lot[/highlight] of damage. Once he picks up his red core, his damage goes up by a lot. Pretty much just be careful of his stun (which is short range) and his ult, and you should be good. [highlight]Verdict: Medium[/highlight] [center][title]Vladmir[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/vladimir.png][/center] The thing about Vlad is that he has tons of sustain, especially once he picks up his [imgsmall=items/hextech-revolver.png] or [imgsmall=items/will-of-the-ancients.png]. His Q makes him insanely hard to poke down, due to him healing his health back no problem, and poking you for a good amount of damage too. His pool makes he especially hard to deal with, since it makes him invulnerable and untargetable. His general build makes him pretty tanky, and makes him do a lot of damage. [highlight]Verdict: Difficult[/highlight] [center][title]Xerath[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/xerath.png][/center] Xerath's Q's are pretty easy to dodge. As long as you keep moving and you keep using [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png], he'll have a hard time trying to predict where you're gonna move to. Another good thing about going against Xerath is that one of his skills pins him down to the ground. If he uses this, get close and personal and start dealing a lot of damage. At level 6, be careful of his long range burst. He can easily drop all 3 of his ults on you if you're not cautious. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight] [center][title]Ziggs[/title][/center] [center][img=champ/ziggs.png][/center] All of his skills are skillshots, so it's not too hard to deal with him. The thing to watch out for is once you use [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png], he can get a lot of damage off on you. If he knows where you're gonna finish your animation, he can throw bombs on the floor to slow you, knock you back a bit, land an easy Q on you, and he can even land an easy ult on top of you. If you need to use [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/w.png], make sure you wait for him to use his knockback skill first. Also, his knockback can get him over a lot of walls if he knows how to use it. Overall though, you should have a pretty decent time in this lane, just watch out for where your [imgsmall=skills/masteryi/q.png] finishes. [highlight]Verdict: Easy[/highlight]
