This is an in depth guide about AD Maokai. In this guide I'll be giving you some tips on AD Maokai. Also I will be explaining why I chose the runes, masteries, and why the items are like that. This guide is to play Maokai as an ADC, NOT A TANK. (You will be using alot of auto attacks) (This is also my first guide) Pros: [.] Great Gap closer [.] Naturally Tanky [.] Useful in teamfights because of his [imgsmall=skills/maokai/r.png] [.] Good sustain from [imgsmall=skills/maokai/p.png] [.] Highest Base Dmg in the game [imgext=http://i.imgur.com/MUQnvmH.jpg] Cons: [.] Easily zoned [.] He's an "All In" champion [.] If he gets behind, HE GETS BEHIND [.] Requires certain supports to help him win lane (Hard CC supports)

[title]Passive: Sap Magic[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Great for sustain for laning phase with the help of lifesteal quints. [title]Q: Arcane Smash[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Helps with CC locking the enemy, it does knockup and decent amount of dmg [title]W: Twisted Advance[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] This makes you invulnerable when you go and root someone. Ex: Caitlyn ult targets you, if you time your W correctly, you can d [title]E: Sapling Toss[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] I use this spell to put it either ahead, on, or behind the enemy so it can help me kill them with the dmg it does. It's also great for zoning the enemy. [title]R: Vengeful Maelstrom[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Great for 1v1's and teamfights. Maokai's ultimate reduces non-tower damage done to allied champions (and yourself) in the area by 20%. And when it ends, all the absorbed damage will go back to the enemy. "When the effect ends, Maokai unleashes the absorbed energy to deal damage to enemies within the vortex." (Also it has low cooldown so you can spam it whenever, just make sure you use it when you need it.)
[title]Starting Items:[/title] Explanation: The elixir is to go aggressive on the ADC after you hit level 3, while the health pots help you survive through laning if you've taken damage from pokes. [title]Why Ninja Tabi's?[/title] Explanation: [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] in my opinion is a great counter to the ADC's at bot lane. Since it provides armor against their AD. (Also they don't have early armor pen so you'll live longer.) [title]Core Build (In order)[/title] 1st big item should be Why? Because AD it provides really helps you alot. What happens if I can afford Pickaxe but not BF sword?! (When you're building IE) Well, it depends on how much gold you have. My rule: If you have 1300-1400 gold, farm up some jungle camps and get that 1550. Anything below 1200, buy pickaxe. [title]Item's after IE[/title] Perfect for crits, minion clearing, and good source for attack speed. Great source for lifesteal, killing tanks, and bonus attack speed. If they're building armor, SHRED RIGHT THROUGH IT. With Last Whisper, it also great for dmg, so keep it in the core. [title]Last Item:[/title] More attack speed, more crits. [title]Defensive Item: [/title] Maokai doesn't really need a defensive item, since you would be killing the enemy REALLY QUICKLY. But if you do need a defensive item sell your Phantom Dancer and buy . GA provides armor, magic resists, revives you to half health, and overall a good defensive item. (5 min cooldown
Maokai needs aggressive supports, or some with hard cc Example supports: My favorite support when I go AD Maokai, is Leona.
CC plays an important role towards AD Maokai. Once you reached level 3, and so has your support. At the right time you both go in on their ADC and demolish him/her. This is how the combo should go with a Leona support. Leona/Maokai combo: Leona goes in first: W, E, Q, Exhaust, starts auto attacking Maokai: Pop elixir, follows up with W after Leona hits her Q, E behind/ or on the ADC, Q, then ignite (If their barrier is gone. If they're running cleanse, don't use ignite. Just do as much damage as you can then back away to regain your mana.)
In early game, your focus is to reach level 3 quickly. There's a high possibility of you getting zoned, if you get zoned play safely and try your best to reach level 3. Once you hit 3 you can start doing the combo and demolish their ADC. Everytime their ADC comes back to lane keep focusing them and kill them. (This strategy is a high risk, high reward. If done correctly, you WILL be ahead of their ADC, outfarm them, and make their laning phase a living hell.)
During midgame, you should have your ultimate. Use your ultimate as an advantage to try to kill their carry. (Placement is key) The combo with your ult: W, R, E, Q, do as much damage as you can and make sure they don't leave your vortex, R, (if they're still living after that, without their summoners, and they're pretty low. Ignite to finish it off.)
If you snowballed to late game, you're a monster. (If you can, steal enemy jungler's blue buff.) You can split push very well, destroy the enemy, and solo dragon with vortex. Or Dou Baron with your vortex. If you failed to snowball to lategame, go for objectives (global gold) and try your best to finish your build.
During teamfights you should: [.] ALWAYS USE YOUR ULTIMATE [.] Stick on their carries and destroy them quickly [.] Don't get caught [.] Stick with your team
AD Maokai is really fun. You should try it out if you're bored, or if you want to break the meta.
