As the title implies, BOT LANE IS BULLSHIT, Vayne is a fantastic top lane, especially in the current bruiser top meta. The reason she can be efective top is due to her high mobility (as I'll explain below) with her [imgsmall=skills/vayne/q.png] and [imgsmall=skills/vayne/e.png]. Another thing that makes her a fantastic top laner is her [imgsmall=skills/vayne/w.png], which not only does true damage (ignoring the resistances and exhaust) but does it based off of their maximum health. So basically her entire kit is a top counter. Really the only thing playing top Vayne comes down to besides practice, is getting through the flaming you WILL get in champion select. One Last thing before we get started, the one thing you really need with Top Vayne is to have a decent team composition, preferably with a tank jungle or support, preferably a tank suport and a bruiser jungle, you can experiment yourself with what works and what doesn't. Ok, so my items are a smidge unconventional, but I have my reasons and here they are, but to start... [img=items/wriggles-lantern.png] FUCK WRIGGLES Pros: [.] Armor against bruisers always good. [.] Life steal and sustain are awesome. [.] Very hard to miss a last hit with madreds procs. Cons: [.] No attack speed to compliment her Silver Bolts. [.] Delays Her core build by way to much. [.] You get more sustain and Damage from Bloodthirster [.] You will end up selling it later for a Bloodthirster anyways. Now that we have gotten that little bit out of the way, allow me to explain the rest of my build. My first few items are pretty standard to start/ [img=items/boots-of-speed.png] The reason I start with these are simply for mobility. You could start cloth armor and 5 health pots, how ever the mobility allows you to harass more, avoid ganks, last hit more efficiently, but always wait for the 4th health pot. DONT EVER FUCKING START DORANS, less sustain, mobility, and you can't recover from a gank. [img=items/dorans-blade.png] These I get for obvious reasons, you get more sustain from the life steal (9% with masteries), damage, and you can survive burst (from champs like Jax, Riven, Renekton, ect). Also with 2 dorans, under tower you don't have to auto teh caster creeps twice under tower, only once. [img=items/berserkers-greaves.png] These I get for the same reason I start with boots, more mobility. But of course these have the added bonus of more attack speed, so once again you can harass and proc your Silver Bolts more. [img=items/phantom-dancer.png] Ok this is really where Vayne hits her stride. This goes without saying, but the attack speed and move speed compliment Vayne perfectly. However the main reason I get this before any major B.F. sword damage items is simply because it increases your damage output more. Since you rely on your Silver Bolts to do damage against the bruiser meta, getting your zeal first will do you a lot of good. [img=items/the-bloodthirster.png] This item is just for sustain and damage. Yes an Infinity edge will increase your damage more, the sustain you get from a Bloodthirster, especially since you are dualing with high sustain champs to start, building Wriggles, Will Of The Ancients, Bloodthirsters, and whos abilities will often heal them (Nasus Passive, Renekton Cull to Meak, Olaf W, Mundo ultimate, ect.), the life steal is a must. After this everything is really up to you, just build your infinity edge, then depending on how well your doing build defensive items, or more Phantom Dancer, Bloodthirsters, ect. Although even if you are doing decently, I would still build some defensive items (at least 1 before your Infinity Edge. And of course if they are stacking armor get a last whisper and be smart.

I am a huge fan of the build that is above, however I do think that there are some items you should definitely avoid, and some that are fantastic in certain situations. CAUTION, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! [highlight]Tank Items:[/highlight] [img=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png][img=items/force-of-nature.png][img=items/frozen-heart.png][img=items/sunfire-cape.png][img=items/randuins-omen.png][img=items/thornmail.png][img=items/warmogs-armor.png] What A.D. carries build these items, none, so use your head and ignore these completely. Your other defensive items offer not as much resistances, although still a good amount, but they offer so much more utility. For example, the extra life from Guardian's Angel and the Negate 1 ability effect of Banshee's are amazing, and again so much better than these full tank items. [highlight]Boots:[/highlight] [img=items/boots-of-mobility.png][img=items/boots-of-swiftness.png][img=items/ionian-boots-of-lucidity.png][img=items/mercurys-treads.png][img=items/ninja-tabi.png] Explanation: You really just want the attack speed that Berserker's Greaves give you. The extra speed from Mobility and Swiftness boots you can usually compensate for with your passive, tumble, ultimate, and zeal/phantom dancers. Also Mercury Treads and Ninja Tabi are nonsense. Life steal is defensive dummy. [highlight]Damage Items:[/highlight] [img=items/atmas-impaler.png][img=items/frozen-mallet.png][img=items/warmogs-armor.png] Explanation: I know it is going to be tempting to build like a bruiser to fulfill that slot in most team comps but just don't. Honestly the lack of attack speed and damage is shit for an A.D. carry, especially someone who scales so well off of attack speed like Vayne. The tankiness should be taken care of with a good team comp seeing as they will have a tanky jungle and support to help team fights out. SITUATIONAL ITEMS. [highlight]Defensive Items:[/highlight] [img=items/maw-of-malmortius.png][img=items/zekes-herald.png][img=items/wits-end.png] Explanation: These are all good items for defense. Maw gives you some damage, magic resist, and a fantastic shield, however can put off you build so i would only build it after your core. Zekes, especially with the aura, is awesome. If your support isn't getting it, bit you and your other ad will benefit, also the extra health, cdr, and life steal are just fun. And Wits end, while this is a very offensive item the magic resist is good, and of course attack speed for Vayne is great.. Really what I would do instead of building these alternate items, you should get a Chain Vest or Negatron Cloak before you finish that item to give you some early resists. [highlight]Damage Items:[/highlight] [img=items/executioners-calling.png][img=items/ionic-spark.png][img=items/madreds-bloodrazor.png][img=items/the-black-cleaver.png][img=items/tiamat.png][img=items/trinity-force.png] Explanation: Ok, Ionic Spark, and Tiamat are really just troll items, that i think are fun because they give ok stats, and no one ever builds them, but moving on. Executioner's Calling is fantastic early for its life steal and crit, but its passive is where its at. I wold get this if you are fighting someone like Yorick or Vlad (high sustain, and damage) The black Cleaver is also a good item for the attack speed, extra damage, and it basically gives your whole team a last whisper on a single target you attack. Next we have Bloodrazor. This item is good for attack speed, but its on hit health damage is nice against super tanks like Malphite, and it also gives you that Madreds proc for more Baron/ Dragon control, and last hitting. And finally you can get triforce, and don't get me wrong its fantastic, but for me it's just too darn expensive, so I usually don't get it. Also it doesn't give you the much needed sustain that Bloodthirster does, so I usually avoid it.

[title][img=skills/vayne/p.png] Passive: Night Hunter[/title] [number]Vayne ruthlessly hunts evil-doers. She gains 40 Movement Speed when moving toward nearby enemy champions.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This is a fantastic ability in lane early, and chasing down people mid and late game. Early game and the laning phase are where I think this is most important. Not only will it give you more mobility in lane (making it easier to last hit) but with this mobility you can chase down and proc your [imgsmall=skills/vayne/w.png] more. [title][img=skills/vayne/q.png] Q: Tumble[/title] [number]Vayne tumbles a short distance and her next basic attack within 6 seconds deals bonus physical damage. The bonus is equal to 40/45/50/55/60% of her total Attack Damage. Cooldown 6/5/4/3/2 seconds Cost 40 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This ability, I can't lie, gives me a slight hard on. The mobility given to you from this ability is great but on top of that it makes last hitting (especially under tower) extremely easy. Also, and I know. I sound like a record thats far beyond broken, it helps you chase down and get more procs on your [imgsmall=skills/vayne/w.png] [title][img=skills/vayne/w.png] W: Silver Bolts[/title] [number]Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals an additional 20/30/40/50/60 plus 4/5/6/7/8% of the target's maximum Health as true damage. (Max: 200 damage vs. Monsters)[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This as mentioned multiple times in this guide is her bread and butter skill. Allowing you to almost completely ignore the bruiser aspect of most top lane champions. Oh and with levels from solo experience it does shit tons of damage to everyone else. [title][img=skills/vayne/e.png] E: Condemn[/title] [number]Vayne fires a huge bolt, dealing 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) physical damage and knocking her target back. If they collide with terrain they take 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) additional physical damage and will be stunned for 1.5 seconds. Cooldown 20/18/16/14/12 seconds Cost 90 mana Range 450[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This is Vayne's main utility spell. If you get tower dove, its a fairly easy stun, it keeps all bruisers away (distance is good since most are melee), and it even applies a ring of silver bolts. The main reason I max this second is because of the cool down being the longest on Vayne (not including her ultimate and summoners of course) [title][img=skills/vayne/r.png] R: Final Hour[/title] [number]For 8/10/12 seconds Vayne gains 25/40/55 Bonus Attack Damage, Tumbling grants Vayne stealth for 1.5 seconds, and the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter is tripled. Cooldown 70 seconds Cost 80 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Her ultimate is, well just WOW! Not only is the synergy with her passive fantastic (triples it), but it also gives you a stealth aspect on your Q, and a decent amount of bonus A.D. One important thing that people should know is that you should not hesitate to pop your ultimate as a defensive spell, and for some mad jukes with the possibility of invisibility.

[imgext=http://i.imgur.com/XDn6a.jpg] The runes I run on Vayne when top is where I lose most people, so let me explain myself. The reason I run attack speed reds, armor yellows, attack speed blues, along with move speed quints are for one reason, her [imgsmall=skills/vayne/w.png] (the same reason I build like I do). This is the skill that will give her the most damage, harras, and lane control. With these runes you will start with only 57 attack damage, but in a skirmish in lane you will win and here is why. With the attack speed, you will be able to proc your [imgsmall=skills/vayne/w.png] more, with the armor you will take less damage (should start with around 35). Then there are move speed quints, these are something I think are a must, in combination with boots, and [imgsmall=skills/vayne/p.png], you will always be able to proc your [imgsmall=skills/vayne/w.png], although you may need to use a [imgsmall=skills/vayne/q.png] to get the last hit (as they run away from an engage or just for harras in between last hits. All of the above is assuming that you are playing on the offensive. On the defensive, (usually levels 1-3) these same runes (not the attack speed so much) will help you escape. The armor, again, gives you reduced damage against most top laners, and the move speed quints, along with boots, will help you escape, you may want a little help from [imgsmall=skills/vayne/e.png] though. I do suggest you sacrifice your attack speed blues if you know you are going to go up against a Vlad, or a Rumble, ect. The attack speed decrease isn't too significant, i just like to play an aggressive game. It is also an option to run a rune page that has A.D. reds or magic resist blues, really any combo of runes that compliment your right clicking, however, if you do this you will lose alot of your W damage early game where Vayne needs it the most. [highlight]I do highly encourage everyone to try their own set up to see what works best for them![/highlight]

This is your most difficult time in the game for you that will, make or break your entire game (basically) and this is where you need skill to survive. To start the most important thing to have is a little bit of general knowledge. First and foremost are the workings of your lane opponent (combos, when they are strong, abilities, general item builds) and yes this will take some time, or if your short on that, feel free to go look up the most popular guide on them. And of course, the compliment to this, know how Vayne works dummy. Next thing you should know is the enemy jungler just as well, if not better than your lane opponent (again skills, combos, when they are strong, items builds ect.) However, the one thing you should know most about their jungler is their jungle path and general clear speed. If against a Shyvana starts red usually and power farms to 6 quickly, or if your against a Lee Sin or Shaco know that you might get lvl 2 ganked, so play very passively until you spot them somewhere else. As always make sure to be last hitting and harrasing you opponent. But you should not give up a last hit to harras more, don't forget, you are still a carry and farm is the most important thing, besides WARDS!

This is where things start to get really fun. In mid game you should have atleast your [imgsmall=items/berserkers-greaves.png][imgsmall=items/dorans-blade.png][imgsmall=items/dorans-blade.png] and [imgsmall=items/zeal.png], maybe even done with your [imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png], or partially built into it, so you should start doing some real damage. The most important aspect of play during the mid game, besides farming, is your map awareness. Not only should you still be buy wards, but actually pay attention to the other lanes and your mini map. If you do these few simple things, you WILL die less, you WILL get more CS, and you WILL enter that amazing hyper carry Vayne status that we all know and love.

By know you should have your core build (see top), and perhaps even your phantom dancer, or the start of a defensive item. During this section of the game you should also start grouping up, going for barons, all that jazz. With grouping up trying to push down towers and get objectives, team fights are inevitable. In team fights you have two jobs, stun and kill their carries as everyone should be doing, and stay the fuck back! Let your tanks and supports, and everyone else soak up the damage and keep people off you. you do all of this and you should be fine. And as always map awareness is key, so even though you are a carry buy wards, and look at your frieking mini map.

As if with all lanes you want to try not to push your lane. Oh yeah, BUY WARDS WHORE. (Alphabetized from Yorick-Akali going down) [img=champ/yorick.png] Keep away from his damn ghouls! Also just farm and play very aggressively for lvls 1-2, then try to freeze your lane just outside of your tower until you get at least your zeal. Then you can shit on his ghouls and his stupid shovel. And don't be hesitant with ignite. [img=champ/wukong.png] If he dashes you knock him back. Also harass him when he comes up to last hit pre-six, you should shit on him if you grow a pair and keep attacking instead of just running away. Post six, if you beat him pre-six is easy, if not turtle and farm until you can, or ask for some jungle pressure. Oh and watch out for his clone, if you attack it you will lose your Silver Bolt rings, which will kill a lot of your damage. [img=champ/warwick.png] Yes his Q is a phenomenal, but he is horrible, so just harass him. And his ultimate shouldn't do anything unless he has a jungler there so remember buy wards. The only way he will beat you (pushing, cs, kills, anything) is if you let their jungle get to you. Also you might want to get your vamp scepter early to match his sustain. [img=champ/volibear.png] With his passive, you shouldn't 1v1 early, just farm and harass a bit. This is a lane you will need some jungle pressure. As long as you don't let him kill you pre-fourish you should be fine. [img=champ/vladimir.png] He is a pushover! But like as with Yorick you might want to rush your vamp scepter to match his sustain. Also keep the minions away from your turret (but don't push to his) because he is a champ that wants to dive, and if you see his ulti on you, just leave and fight him after. [img=champ/udyr.png] You should not even have a problem. With no dash and being a melee, just as always, buy wards and know your enemy jungler. Watch out for his tiger dot however, it does do more damage than you think. [img=champ/tryndamere.png] Just q him away after he spins and run away when he pops his ult (or chase him if he is running, you should be able to catch him especially with your ultimate. [img=champ/talon.png] Talon is definitely one of the tougher lanes, who I honestly wouldn't pick Vayne against. However if you are feeling adventurous, you need a lvl 2 gank or something because with his silence and his invisibility and burst, you will have trouble. [img=champ/swain.png] Swain should Also be easy as long as you can tumble out of his snare. Also be aggressive with him pre-six. with his slow just auto, tumble, then condemn to get all three silver bolts off. Post-six however as long as you use your ignite as you engage as opposed to a finisher you should be fine. Also just condemn him away if he pops his ult. [img=champ/singed.png] Singed can be tricky if he gets a flip off on you (assuming he can use his poison properly). But as with most top laners, pre-six you should shit on him with your W, post six (if you lost) just power farm and make sure you don't get ganked. Pro-tip, freeze in front of your tower (so the tower doesn't attack minions) to make it harder for him to push with his poison. [img=champ/shyvana.png] Holy early game damage. Power farm with this one because you really won't even be able to compete in an early exchange until you get your zeal and vamp scepter. But for some harass it is a very hit and run play style. If you see her pop her W, run and keep her away from you. [img=champ/shen.png] You will shit on Shen as long as you can dodge his taunt and avoid the enemy jungler. [img=champ/rumble.png] DO NOT LET HIM KITE YOU! Also just tumble out of his ulti, and condemn him away when you uses it, then come back and fight him. Against Rumble mobility is your best friend, so perhaps get one dorans and tier 2 boots, or rush your zeal. [img=champ/riven.png] She is a strong top laner, however as long as you can avoid her CC you should be fine. DO NOT LET HER ZONE YOU! One thing you might have to do is buy a ward for the brush right buy your tower, this will give you lane dominance. If you get this ward remember don't mush your lane and make it useless. [img=champ/renekton.png] Renekton as a lane is fairly predictable, stay away from your minions due to his slice and dice mechanic (he can use it again if he his an enemy or neutral unit). So as long as you tumble away. Also one thing you might should remember is to ignite him before you think he will ulti (if he dives you or he is low and you are fighting, IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. [img=champ/poppy.png] Pre-six piece of cake, post-six almost no chance. Crush her early with jungle help and avoid her jungler. Also try to stay away from walls, if she stuns you you will lose an engage. [img=champ/pantheon.png] Just, don't its not worth it. [img=champ/olaf.png] Olaf is a tricky lane for anyone but I do think that Vayne is one of the few who will consistently beat him. Now if this Olaf is smart he will max his Undertow, however if you are smart, you will just tumble out of the way and it will be cake. Also you will have to use your ultimate defensively when he ults (you can't knock back/stun. [img=champ/nasus.png] This is a little more tricky with his W's slow. However thanks to tumble refreshing your auto attack and your condemn applying a silver bolt ring, you should be fine. Also don't be afraid to ignite him before he ults (if he is diving or at low health and you are chasing. [img=champ/malphite.png] I'm starting to get board of writing this but pre-six you'll be fine, just don't let him get close and be aware of the enemy jungler. [img=champ/kayle.png] Nope just don't even try it, right now she is way to strong top, and with her range, splash, slow, and heal, and ulti on top of all of that, this is a for sure shit lane for Vayne. [img=champ/jax.png] Jax you will only win against him with early jungle pressure. However if your jungle can't look at team chat or just doesn't listen, when he jumps on you with is dodge/stun up, immediately condemn him away, and perhaps even tumble away, the wait until the stun procs to start attacking again. [img=champ/jarvaniv.png] Jarvan is a weird lane for Vayne. One tip is that if he ults you, your condemn won't stun him, but actually push him out if you position yourself correctly, you will still be stuck but you won't be taking damage from him. [img=champ/irelia.png] Since Irelia's nerf she is seriously weak in top lane. The only thing you will really need to be aware of is if you are at a higher max health percentage than she is (so you know if she has her stun). Another thing that will help you against her, when she pops her ultimate, stay away from minions, if you do that you cut her healing and damage by so much you will almost always come out on top. [img=champ/hecarim.png] He is just a joke, just stay out of range of his Q. [img=champ/garen.png] I'm fairly sure I said this above, but buy a ward for the bush, then freeze then lane a bit on your side of the bush and don't push. If he runs at you with his silence and condemn him away, and because of his somewhat bursty combo, and your squishiness, make sure to basically stay above half health. Finally ask for some jungle pressure early game and harass a lot pre-six. [img=champ/fiora.png] This lane is another you will not win, unless that Fiora is a dumb, stinky farty whore. [img=champ/drmundo.png] Mundo you will only win if you get a kill pre-six, and if you aren't somewhat fed, when he hits 11 you are boned. Another thing is to stay out of range of his W, and his cleavers they will rip you apart. Kite him around minions, stay behind minions, and if necessary ward a bush in lane, then freeze the lane in front of that bush! [img=champ/darius.png] Darius does a lot of damage and you are squishy. However Darius is especially prone to kiting, so as long as you stay away from his grab (tumble or just knowing the distance), you should kite the living shit out of him, and this lane will be laughable. [img=champ/chogath.png] You will always win against a Cho Gath. However because of his CC and silence, you have to be very careful of junglers, also you will want to save your condemn for when he comes at you at 6 due to his made true damage on his ultimate. If you see him use it on a minion, and you have river wards, be aggressive as all shit. [img=champ/akali.png] Although I don't see many Akalis top anymore, just kill her pre-six, then once she hits six ask mor some jungle pressure post-six and you should be fine.

-One fantastic thing I love doing is after a lot of harass going down, and you think you can burst. Go into a bush, wait for you opponent to pass a wall, pop your ultimate, tumble (then flash if needed), condemn, then just go to town (with ignite if its up) -If against anyone with an attack speed debuff (Nasus, Lee Sin, ect.) attack them once, tumble away, attack then condemn them off of you. -WARD WARD WARD WARD WARD! -Under tower, don't be afraid to use the attack damage increase on tumble to last hit. -Use your speed to your advantage, when skirmishing away from towers, kite you opponent aroun the minions throwing in an auto or tumble from time to time. then if they start to get close just condemn them off of you (unless you are against someone who popped ghost, Fizz, or Hecarim, who can ignore unit collision). -After condemn you can usually get one more auto attack off regardless of the fact that they might be pushed out of your range. So... if you are in extra trouble get one ting of silver bolts off then condemn them away, usually you will get the full true damage proc.
