I suck at ryze but I can still teach you two setups for ryze that I used to get to challenger. This guide will provide you the basics of what you need to know. 1. Runes/Masteries 2. Items 3. How to play laning phase You will likely find yourself wrecking everyone that's melee unless they're 2 divisons higher then you, or you can blame lag like everyone else. When using this guide, use it only as a benchmark.
I suggest maxing Q then maxing E 2nd. Q = main source of damage E = wave clear W = CC R = movement speed + spell vamp
Spam Q on your opponent save W for ganks or finishing kills, never use E unless it's to finish off someone. Good junglers will camp the hell out of you, so have your hand on the flash key when you're expecting it.
You should have ROA by now, decide which item path you are going and keep farming. You want to fight mostly when your summoners + your ult is up. Otherwise just afk farm to late game.
You should be a really annoying ranged tank dps by now. Follow up on your teammate engages or flash W to catch people (use your best judgement) You don't need to dive the enemy squishes, just hit the closest target and make sure to burst down the targets who will die. Don't chase to far and keep using your spell rotations. Snowball lanes and rotate.
You either dive the enemies squishes or protect your own. In teamfights it's ideal to save W for when a target is about to die or when their squishies walk up to you. Whatever you do, priortize yourself over everyone except your ADC, unless you do more then he does.
Ryze is a really strong top lane meta pick because 1. He out lanes everyone at lvl 1 with 100 damage Q 2. You can go utility on him and still do ridiculous amounts of damage 3. Good mobility with an ult that costs 0 mana 4. Has wave clear 5. Godly late game 6. Solid solo queue champion. This guide should be a good staple for players who want to learn the basics about ryze.
