Blitzcrank is an extremely versatile champion that has the ability to work with several builds however this guild will focus on an AD Support Tank. In this guide you'll find the standard way to play Blitzcrank with this build as well as tips and tricks for all Blitzcrank players.

[title]Runes:[/title] Marks - Marks of Desolation give Blitzcrank's Power Fist more bang for the buck although Marks don't give a huge advantage they could be switched for Attack Speed for easier creep kills or Magic Penetration for a stronger ultimate (although this guide is AD specific). Seals - Seals of Vitality are great for Blitzcrank to allow him to really harass without much of a scratch as well allowing you to stay in a lane much longer. Dodge and Armor seals do work well however due to the high initial cooldowns of Blitzcranks Rocket Grab you will mostly be sitting back between cooldowns. Glyphs - Glyphs of Celerity help reduce the cooldown of Rocket Grab allowing you to be more unpredictable during the laning phase as well as intiating team fights. Again Magic Resist per level Glyphs work well here as well to increase his total defense. Quintessences - Quintessences of Fortitude give you more HP and also a very limited amount of choices however Move Speed are about equal in usefulness once again increasing your chasing capabilities. [.]NOTE: If you choose to go a more defensive Rune Page then a few item choices may change to give you a bit more offensive capabilities. Although you can be tank-like it would be preferred to deal out enough damage initially so your team doesn't have to waste Burst after Burst on a single target you grab.

[img=skills/blitzcrank/p.png] [highlight]Mana Barrier (passive)[/highlight] [highlight]Blitzcrank's Mana Barrier can activate once a minute when he hits 20% life. This creates a Mana Shield equal to 50% of his mana, lasts 10 seconds[/highlight]. Blitzcrank's Passive will save your life very often and the more reason to get Tear of the Goddess and possible more mana items without hurting your true defense much. Also due to the cooldown of this skill don't count on it too much and just hope it will save you. [img=skills/blitzcrank/q.png] [highlight]Rocket Grab Blitzcrank fires his right hand to grab an opponent on it's path, dealing damage and dragging it back to him.[/highlight] The major threat of a Blitzcrank is his ability to grab the enemy. This ability is difficult to master but many tricks with it that will give you benefits in all points of the game. Can be used for early game turret pulling, pulling turret huggers through walls or claiming golem from the other side. [img=skills/blitzcrank/w.png] [highlight]Overdrive Blitzcrank super charges himself to get dramatically increased movement and attack speed. [/highlight] This skill allows Blitzcrank to outrun almost everyone and although a Yi may outrun you, you still have a reliable range grab to pull him to you. [img=skills/blitzcrank/e.png] [highlight]Power Fist Blitzcrank charges up his fist to make his next attack deal double damage and pop his target up in the air.[/highlight] The usefulness of this attack is due to its knock up which is a great form of CC that allows your allies to focus on that target also since it has a short cooldown helps to interrupt nasty ultimates from Nunu, Katarina or Fiddlesticks. [img=skills/blitzcrank/r.png] [highlight]Static Field Passively causes lightning bolts to damage a nearby enemy. Additionally, Blitzcrank can activate this ability to damage nearby enemies and silences for 0.5 seconds, but doing so removes the passive lightning until Static Field becomes available again. [/highlight] The extremely short cooldown of this ability makes it good for pushing a large group of minions. Do not use the ult in teamfights immediately, unless needed to interrupt and ultimate, to get the biggest benefit of the passive damage it does. [title]SKILL ORDER:[/title] Blitzcrank has a pretty versatile Skill order that you may want to change on a game to game basis. The first point will go into Rocket Grab if I plan to go straight to my lane or if my team lacks a skill shot to check brush for a level 1 fight. If my team has a skill shot that can check brush then I'll go Power Fist to have synergy with anyone that has additional CC. (Most cases I will just get Rocket Grab). During the laning phase if you are up against atleast 1 melee then go Power Fist for 2nd point. Third Point should immediately go into Overdrive. If you find yourself hugging your turret or being pushed often then prioritize Overdrive, this will allow you to quickly run in for some last hits as well as run from any possible tower dives and ganks. If you are strong in your lane then prioritize Power Fist which will give you a strong chance of killing any enemy in the right conditions. [.]NOTE: If you are EXTREMELY confident in your skill with Rocket Grab then you could prioritize it over Power Fist for a stronger Nuke since Power Fist won't be as strong as it till you get your Manamune. TL;DR: Normally - QEWEER [imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/r.png]>[imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/e.png]>[imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/w.png]>[imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/q.png](Once you have Level 3 Power Fist you could go into Overdrive once more for some more speed and Turret damage) You're Pushed Hard - QWWEWR [imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/r.png]>[imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/w.png]>[imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/e.png]>[imgsmall=skills/blitzcrank/q.png] (Once you have Level 3 Overdrive switch back to prioritizing Power Fist)

Starting Items: Offensive/Harassing get [img=items/sapphire-crystal.png] + [img=items/health-potion2.png] Defensive get [img=items/dorans-shield.png] Most games I find myself getting [imgsmall=items/dorans-shield.png]Doran's shield just to really bank of a longer staying power in my lane with the high amount of Health regen from Masteries/Runes. However a [imgsmall=items/sapphire-crystal.png]Sapphire Crystal is not a bad choice either as no matter which item you get first your next item should be a [imgsmall=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png]Tear of the Goddess. Unless your turret is in danger of strong pushing try to wait for enough gold to buy both [imgsmall=items/boots-of-speed.png]Boots of Speed and Tear of the Goddess. Tear of the Goddess should help you with some mana issues and increase your shield's power. The next items you should be working on are a [imgsmall=items/sheen.png]Sheen and finish getting a [imgsmall=items/manamune.png]Manamune. Once you obtain those items you will have several different paths however the most followed is getting a [imgsmall=items/phage.png]Phage after finishing a Manamune. [.]NOTE: [imgsmall=items/boots-of-swiftness.png]Boots of Swiftness may be a possible choice if you want to get Power Fist prioritized first if you do this skip the Phage and get a [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png]Negatron Cloak first. After completing a Phage you will begin to build based on what your enemy consists of. If you find yourself against a large amount of Magic casters or Crowd Control issues then [imgsmall=items/banshees-veil.png]Banshee's Veil should be the next focused item you could also get a Banshee's Veil before working on a Phage. [imgsmall=items/trinity-force.png]Trinity Force would be a great choice after completing a Manamune but do not get unless you have won the first Team Fight or have a large lead in kills. If you're facing a large Physical team then build a [imgsmall=items/glacial-shroud.png]Glacial Shroud but do not try to finish a [imgsmall=items/frozen-heart.png]Frozen Heart instead if going this path get a [imgsmall=items/giants-belt.png]Giant's Belt. Now whichever of the above items you got first make sure you start working on the others from above. In some games you MAY face largely Magic group or a largely Attack Damage group but the chances are rare and if your team is well balanced then you should always win against either group even if you get all the items still above. HOWEVER it of course would be wise to get a [imgsmall=items/force-of-nature.png]Force of Nature against Magic groups or a [imgsmall=items/randuins-omen.png]Randuin's Omen if against a strong Attack Damage team. Once you've gotten Manamune - Trinity Force - Mercury Treads - Banshee's Veil - Glacial Shroud start working on any other possible weakpoints of yourself or your team. [imgsmall=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png]Aegis of the Legion is a STRONG supportive item and should be gotten if no one else on your team has it and might be wise to get it before finishing Banshee's Veil. [imgsmall=items/guardian-angel.png]Guardian Angel gives about as much survival as an Aegis of the Legion but gives a resurrect which certainly will solve any dying too quickly issues. [imgsmall=items/frozen-mallet.png]Frozen Mallet has been a choice of mine often as well even though you have a Trinity Force due to the high amount of HP you get and a small bit of damage.

[title]Early Game[/title] Once the game starts buy your Doran's Shield or Sapphire Crystal + 2x Mana Potions and head to your lane. If you are playing with friends try to get them to lane with you have someone that knows how you'll play. If you are with all strangers then be kind and pick a lane. The best people to have partnered with you is someone capable of pushing hard, have a range CC or have some strong burst. These teammates work well with your lack of AoE Farm in early game and increase your chances of getting first blood. Try to last hit but make sure to share with your ally, afterall Blitzcrank mostly needs levels at the early start and can farm very well in mid game. One great strategy in early game is allowing the other team push towards your turret and hope they over extend allowing you an easy Rocket Grab + Power Fist combo near your turret. As soon as you get the gold to, buy a Tear of the Goddess. If your lane is going strong, stay till you can afford boots. If your partner goes back before you ask them to buy a ward and place it in the river between the 2 paths that lead to Blue Golem and Lizard. (This allows you to see all entry points and gives a stronger vantage to spotting ganks.) [.]NOTE: If your ally went back and supplied a ward you could use that ward to teleport on once you've went and got your items. You can easily gank doing this and generally will guarantee a kill if the other team is pushing. [title]Middle Game[/title] Once people start dying more often and you've gotten atleast your Sheen and upgraded boots and Manamune it's time to try and get any easy kills or covering weak lanes. Never leave a lane unoccupied as you will want that experience and gold. At this time you are capable of getting Golem and your team should also contemplate some Dragon kills if you don't have a jungler to watch it for you. [.]NOTE: If you are attempting to get Blue Golem don't use your ultimate immediately to kill it also make sure no one else is better suited for it. A trick to golem to confuse the enemy is to grip the golem from the other side of the wall it spawns. Best to do this if trying to steal enemy golem and if doing this do not use Power Fist as it may reset it. Also during this phase of the game start increasing your map awareness by pushing lanes and destroying enemy turrets and most importantly warding key areas of the map. [title]Late Game[/title] Eventually you'll get into large amount of team fights, this generally happens when you've completed a Trinity Force and another Defensive item. Try to stick together with your team as your team may not be able to initiate or win a team fight without you. If you're looking to push a lane that is threatening your turret then make sure you're aware where the other team is. If there is an enemy in a lane pushing then go as a team to attempt to gank. One thing that helps you at this time are [imgsmall=items/oracles-elixir.png]Oracle's Elixir allowing you to see any enemy turret/invisible units that would else give up your location. When attempting to start a team fight make sure you team knows to ignore their tanks and go after their strongest threat, generally their carries. In the best situation you'll want to Rocket Grab those targets but most will hide behind their tank if they are doing that then charge in after their tank with Power Fist, make sure you aren't being attacked by a turret. This generally will cause the other team to think you're out of position and come after you. If the trick works you'll be able to Overdrive back to your team and Rocket Grab someone. Tanks are usually a bad choice to grab but if they are extremely out of position then pull them so that the other team has no defense. [.]NOTE: If your team consists of a strong intiator (Jarvan, Malphite, Shen, Amumu, Galio, Rammus) then let them do the first initiation and you'll come in with the support of your Power Fist and Rocket Grab. Your best chances of landing Rocket Grab is through walls and from bushes. This both hinders the site of the enemy so they can't see your Rocket Grab and puts them in a difficult position to try to escape. If your side is losing and the other team is attacking your turrets then try to rocket grab anyone that isn't a tank to try and misplace them. If teamwork is happening then you should be able to defend quite well, many games don't end at the 20 minute mark so don't give up hope. Also if your team is winning fights then make sure to get Baron and also make sure Baron is warded WITH A VISION WARD. You want to make sure the other team doesn't get Baron so attack with your full team.

Here I will list Items/Champions and Situations that could turn out to be bad for a Blitzcrank player and how to deal with such threats. [imgsmall=items/banshees-veil.png] [highlight]Banshee's Veil[/highlight] This item will turn out to be quite deadly to Blitzcrank for anyone on the enemy team that has it. Since you're trying to grab them and the shield created by Banshee's Veil will block it. The best way of going around this is practically the same for everyone have a teammate that has something that could easily break it, like Teemo's Dart, Malzahar's Malefic Visions or anything that would cause som sort of debuff like a DoT, Stun, Root etc. [imgsmall=champ/morgana.png] [highlight]Morgana[/highlight] This champion will give you the biggest issues when playing Blitzcrank. She is the same thing as a Banshee's Veil but it won't be removed since it has a 5 second duration and even worse a 15 second cooldown (affected by Cooldown Reduction). Couldn't get worse right? Wrong. She can cast it on any ally she wishes. How do you deal with a Morgana? Well based on the rest of the makeup of the other team she may be considered the biggest threat meaning your team should always focus her first. She may like to sit back but there is something many Morgana players do. They won't put their shield up unless they see a threat incoming. This means when she tries to move up for an easy Dark Binding you could sit in a bush and aim your Rocket Grabs that way. Also if you have someone that is beefy enough you could use them as bait for her Dark Binding to again, easily catch her with a Rocket Grab. [imgsmall=champ/teemo.png] [highlight]Teemo[/highlight] Teemo has shut me down quite often, atleast that is when Teemo is in the right hands. Rocket Grab doesn't have the fastest Missle speed meaning it is avoidable in many ways. Players that strafe are harder to catch but ones that can lay a Mushroom causes you to grab the mushroom instead of the champion. The best way to deal with Teemo and any champion that lays down a targetable object or pet is ignore them. There are few champions that can do this so you can choose from the other enemies to grab or if you attempt to pull through a wall or brush, which when facing champions like Teemo proves tough due to their massive map awareness. At this time I have no idea if stealthed Mushrooms can be grabbed, I don't face many Teemos and don't quite have resources to test this. The same is to be said about Wards as I believe wards can be grabbed as well meaning any champ could counter you in this way but more unlikely than facing a Teemo. This list will be updated continually as I come across more Blitzcrank weaknesses.

If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to comment. Blitzcrank is by far my most favorable champion since he has a strong impact on winning a teamfight since Rocket Grab on the enemy carries gives a huge advantage. I may create videos or pictures of additional information pertaining to Blitzcrank or the general gameplay itself. When I first played Blitzcrank I disliked him very much but as any newb would at first. After many games with him I've began to understand he is a strong presences and my goal is to create more Blitzcrank and really suggest giving this guide a try especially if you like Alistar and Singed. I'm not a huge player in ranked gameplay, however my research comes from players that are extreme ranked players and I play mostly premade 5v5 Normal Games with 2-3 friends. Playing with people I know makes it easier to play Blitzcrank since they know what I'll do.
