Gragas is a fun and lovable champion that has unfortunately remained in the back seat when it comes to selecting a champion for quite some time. People choose to not play Gragas because they feel his dependency on skill shots and melee range hinder him to the point where other AP mids are highly more favorable. However, I have chosen to be an exception to this rule by having Gragas at the top of my most played champions with not only a positive win ration, but KDA to match! A master of Gragas can become a huge threat mid game, potentially killing enemy players in 3 spells. His high mobility, range and damage make him extremely fun and rewarding by upping his capability to roam, poke and pick players. Pro Gragas: Mobile High Burst Utility-soft cc/displacement High skill cap Very Fun Con Gragas: Melee Skill Shots High skill cap Misplaced ults can cost you the game

This has been the rune page I've used on Gragas for all of time: [imgext=http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/p480x480/403436_352769244785801_273383596057700_1002641_1268174482_n.jpg] Ap quints are clutch for helping his early game damage and ability to farm with his barrels. Complementing the Ap quints we have the flat mana regeneration seals, which allow for maximum [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] spamming when paired with his [imgsmall=skills/gragas/w.png]. However, the Scaling AP per LvL blues I feel are interchangeable with Flat MR Blues depending on the match up. Starting boots 3 pots has become a practicality for Gragas, Middle lane has become a very aggressive lane where health potions are necessary to compensate for harass, which comes around often when you are a melee champion. Picking up early doran rings (2~3) are crucial for Gragas, it adds a lot to his early game which can seem very weak without them. The mana regeneration and extra AP help his transition to mid game tremendously. Sorcerers shoes are another great pick up for Gragas. Being a very burst heavy and strongly mid game reliant champion [imgsmall=items/sorcerers-shoes.png] are almost an essential every game. Rushing a Cap as your first big item is a MUST every game. The damage and Mid game burst potential it brings allows Gragas to be a threat and carry games. After [imgsmall=items/rabadons-deathcap.png] there are a few different ways I like to build Gragas: [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] OR [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] OR [imgsmall=items/void-staff.png] The Rod is an amazing item on Gragas, it gives him everything he needs; Mana, Ability Power, and Health! Granted the community frowns upon people not rushing [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] because of its scaling stats, but don't let that discourage you! It is still a great item that allows you to be a little bit more tanky which as a melee champion I find to be almost a necessity. However, I will say if [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] is not your 2nd big item pick up, refrain from grabbing it all together. Hourglass is a high damage item that brings insane utility to Gragas' skill set. Having [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] opens many windows for making plays. It is a extremely fun and effective item. Void Staff is a straight damage / glass cannon build that is also very strong. When in doubt I choose to go this build, but generally I'll look to the other two options [imgsmall=items/rod-of-ages.png] OR [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] because I believe Gragas is more than just damage, he is team utility as well. The only reason I would ever get a Quicksilver Sash would be if I was facing a suppress champion like [imgsmall=champ/skarner.png][imgsmall=champ/warwick.png][imgsmall=champ/malzahar.png]. Lichbane is an extremely fun item that I love to pick up on occasion. It gives you extra movespeed and damage, but also encourages you to be close to the enemy to get in auto attacks ~ for that reason I would NOT pick this item up unless it was paired with a [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] Banshee Veil is a great item for Gragas because it gives him great tank stats. I would look to pick up this item if their team had a [imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png][imgsmall=champ/ashe.png] to avoid getting picked off. Another reason to get a veil would be if your team already has a TON of damage, then you should look to embrace your utility and do a little tanking for you team with [imgsmall=items/banshees-veil.png]. My optimal build would consist of THEN OR . This build is a very diverse, damage and utility heavy build. It brings a lot to the table, with this build you will be pretty damn tanky, especially with your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/w.png] applied, added with the utility of [imgsmall=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] you are gonna be one hard fat son of a gun to take down.

A quality question that appears often is what ability to max 2nd. Typically I like to get 2 points into [imgsmall=skills/gragas/w.png] before maxing my [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png]. I do this because the extra mana is very nice due to Gragas' natural mana hungry nature and in addition the blue buff nerfs. But with out a doubt Gragas is much more effective with [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png] Maxed out 2nd, not only does it allow him to give the added damage needed to hundred to zero targets, but to increase his speed causing him to be more unpredictable.

Early game is a little tough for the big fella. Due to his melee range, it is very easy for him to get harassed out of lane if you are not careful. Try to hand back early on, minimizing the amount of auto attacks and spells you eat. At level 3 your combo does insane damage when followed up with auto attacks, be sure to lead in with [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png] to tee up your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] on the slowed target when the opportunity arises. If you can connect your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png] you will most likely win every trade, but beware of the jungler, because using your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png] aggressively exposes your big rear door to some easy ganks. Gragas' bread and butter comes after you hit level 6. At level 6 Gragas becomes very powerful and can use many different methods to get ahead of your opponent: 1. Taking your wraiths and even theirs when it is safe. 2. Bullying the enemy Mid player out of lane with your insane range poke 3. Look for opportunities to steal enemy buffs (Blue Golem mostly) with your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] + [imgsmall=skills/gragas/r.png] combo (it is worth the cooldown! and is very obvious when the enemy mid leaves to go for Blue) 4. Use your AoE abilities to push the wave instantly and look to roam / gank ~ Ganking over extended lanes will allow for you to get ahead and pad your mid game burst making you an uncontrollable powerhouse. 5.Aggressively warding is a good thing when you are Gragas. Because Gragas is so mobile, he can see people in their jungle and look to cut them off with a surprise combo that can kill them before they have a chance to react. Demonstrated here: Also, take a look at this video portraying the utility of the [imgsmall=skills/gragas/r.png] when complemented by Lee Sin: *REQUESTED* Video of laning harass using Q-->E cancellation + Ult combo:

Gragas has great AoE damage and utility when it comes to team fighting. You are most likely going to want to hang back waiting for an opportunity to burst someone for a kill. When you are hanging back, periodically chuck [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] into the center of their team, preferably hitting their AD carry. Survey their team and get ready to [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png] your big belly into the mist of them, chaining it with your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/r.png] which will be used for primarily damage, hopefully picking up a couple kills. The reason you want to hang back is to ensure kills, if you go in to soon with [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png], you will get focused and forced to [imgsmall=skills/gragas/r.png] premature knocking them away to safety. Watch this team fight where I am required to disengage and kite, poking the enemy down until I am at a point where I can clean up. Demonstrated here: Notice the cheeky Wall Slide at the end, most people don't expect Gragas' big buns to be able to fit through there, allowing me to pick up a free kill. Wall sliding is a HUGE advantage Gragas has over many other champions.

Gragas, as I've mentioned has great burst, enough burst late game to out damage a level 18 smite. This allows Gragas to steal baron very easily with his [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] + [imgsmall=skills/gragas/r.png] combo and put his team back in the game when things look there worst. [title]Laning Match Ups Gragas Won't Drink To:[/title] Cassiopeia is one stone cold bitch, very hyper aggressive with early game harass which will pay a toll on Gragas due to his melee range. A good Cassiopeia will make gap closing extremely difficult for Gragas causing him to do poorly in this match up. In addition, if you are able to get a body slam in on her the high damage output from Cassiopeia might not allow you to make it out alive. Ahri is quick on her toes after level 6, enabling maximum outplaying by dodging every last skillshot you throw out if she plays it right. Amazingly annoying champion, being a high damage and elusive champ allows her quite the upper hand in lane. If you try to make a play, she will dodge you with "Distortion" and trade you for free. With that in mind you have to let her make the first move, giving her complete dominance in the lane. Twisted Fate is a unique champion that thrives off being quick and elusive. A good TF will never let you get a [imgsmall=skills/gragas/e.png] off and dodge most of your [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png], at level 6 maybe you can ult combo him to gap close, but it is very high risk and will unlikely be a good outcome. Also, Twisted Fate's early game is very punishing versus a melee champion like Gragas. [title]Laning Match Ups Gragas Will Drink To:[/title] Brand is a very low mobile target, making it easy to get in close and belly slap him; enabling you to channel your whole combo. In addition Brand is a highly skill shot dependent champion, some nifty movements with Gragas will allow you to win trades very easily. One of the few match ups that Gragas can do whatever the hell he wants. Gragas should never die to Karthus, as his sustain from [imgsmall=skills/gragas/p.png] and [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] range allow him to farm freely. At 6 you can gap close and harass/burst a Karthus very effectively. Morgana is a really fun match up that I have always enjoyed playing. It is fairly even, but a good Gragas can easily sway the lane in his favor. At level 6 you can [imgsmall=skills/gragas/q.png] down Morgana's "black shield" and follow it with an [imgsmall=skills/gragas/r.png], opening her up for ganks, or disengaging her when necessary.
