[title]Why to play Varus mid[/title] Varus is underplayed as ad carry due to his lacks of escape and weak late game compared to other ad carries. In my opinion he is a bit more viable as hybrid champ playing mid lane becuase he brings a lot of utility to his team and doesn't fall off in late game thruogh the use of percent HP damage. Using his kit properly makes him one of the best duelers in game and unlike other burst champions he still does damage even with all his abilities on cooldown( thx to converting 40% of his ap to dmg per hit). [title]Pros and Cons[/title] Like every champion in game Varus has some adventages and disadventages: Pros: [.] High damage output [.] Hard CC ( aoe slow, multi target snare for 2 sec) [.] Does hybrid damage - this makes enemies build both mr and armor [.] Mid-long range [.] In late game very srong duelist ( particulary against champs without long range stuns) [.] Can go in different gameplay ways depended on team and enemy [.] Does not relie on blue buff [.] Easy last hitting, huge damage to super minions Cons: [.] Weak early game [.] No mobility - vulenrable to CC [.] Naturally squishy ( this can be fixed by going some item paths) [.] Items reliant [.] Long time requiered to release combo ( in compare to other nukers) [.] Relies on positioning [.] High skill cap [.] Not a great pick in solo queue - but still decent [title]Explanations[/title] [.] Masteries and runes don't change depending on item build because you still need to do both types of damage. [.] Two item builds are neccesary because Varus needs to change his gameplay depending on lane oponent and team(for example Galio as lane oponent and AP top) [.] Most of times you will build defensive 6th item on Varus but you can go in for offensive choice if you are doing very well through whole the game or need more damage/mpen e.t.c. [title]Why to play Varus as an ad carry[/title] As I said Varus is underplayed as ad carry because he is hard to position properly and his late game damage could be better but he is still a good choice becuase of utility he birngs to his team and very strong laning phase even if he's countered. Varus played as ad carry will own his lane oponents with mix of physical and magical damage - he can totally destroy their laning phase which can result in weaker enemy ad carry and won game, but if he looses his laning phase he is going to have hard time due to no escape and being easly ganked and killed. In generall he is quite good ad carry and you should pick him when your team lacks CC or/and bot lane is not so hard to be won. [title]Pros and Cons[/title] Let's start with his pros and cons: Pros: [.] Very strong laning phase - you can zone your oponents if you have good support [.] Brings a lot of utility to his team - very hard CC for an ad carry [.] Early in the game he does some nice amounts of magic damage ([imgsmall=skills/varus/r.png] & [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png]) [.] Long auto attack and all skills range [.] Strong team fighter and initiator [.] Easy last hitting due to his [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] [.] High damage even without items Cons: [.] Relatively weak late game [.] No escape - vulenrable to CC [.] Some oponents on bot can make his game a lot harder [.] Laning phase in his case is crucial - he has to win it or he'll have had time [.] Relies on positioning [.] Quite high skill cap [.] Decent pick in solo queue As you can see, Varus mid and ad carry are contrasting with each one. The way you should play him is your choice but I personally prefer going mid with him because I like champions strong in late game and not so depended on laning phase. Anyway it's all up to you.

[highlight][center]Hybrid Varus[/center][/highlight] Marks: [highlight]9x Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration[/highlight] - these marks will improve your both types of damage. There is no better mark choice for hybrid Varus. Seals: [highlight]9x Greater Seal of Armor [/highlight]- well... this is armor. Varus is squishy so having some extra armor at start will help him survive ganks and win trades. Again no better choice for hybrid Varus. Glyphs: [highlight]9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power [/highlight]- these glyphs will help you improve your late game by giving you decent amount of ap at lvl 18. My prefered. [highlight]9x Greater Glyph of Magic Resistance[/highlight] - another vialable choice. These glyphs will let you win trades and survive burst in some situations. Generally, more defensive option than ap/lvl. Quintessenses: [highlight]3x Greater Quintessence of Ability Power [/highlight]- these quintessences will help you in early game when hybrid varus lacks damage. [highlight] 3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed [/highlight]- this is another good option that can fix your mobility and help you run in some situations but against high mobility enemy these runes are useless - they are going to catch you even if you have your small movement speed buff. [highlight][center]Ad carry Varus[/center][/highlight] Marks: [highlight]9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage[/highlight]- obvious marks pick. They give you 8 bonus ad which is probably best use of marks. Seals: [highlight]9x Greater Seal of Armor [/highlight]- yes, this is armor. Varus is squishy so having some extra armor at start will help him survive ganks and win trades particulary on bot lane. No better choice for Varus in general. Glyphs: [highlight]9x Greater Glyph of Magic Resistance[/highlight] - when playing Varus as ad carry you should consider only this one option. It is simply best choice of glyphs you can make. Quintessenses: [highlight]3x Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage [/highlight]- these quintessences will help you in early game adding some nice damage to you. With ad marks you will receive 15 AD only from runes. 3x [highlight]Greater Quintessence of Armor penetration [/highlight]- this is a bit different and strange options but it works properly with your ad skills. Anyway you should use flat attack damage quintessenses to maximaze your early damage more than some ARP.

On minion or neutral monster kill, Varus gains 20% attack speed for 3 seconds.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] [number]Mid: [/number]This passive makes farming easier and makes you beast in team fights after taking down a target, but in general this passive isn't the best you'd might want. [number]Adc: [/number]As an ad carry you will find this passive more useful becuase you are not going to build so monstrual numbers of AS. It will help you in laning phase very much becuase it makes last hitting/pushing lane easier andif you take one kill in most cases you are going to take another. Also good in team fights to maximaze your killing potential. [title][img=skills/varus/q.png] Q: Piercing Arrow[/title] [number]First Cast: Varus starts drawing back his next shot, gradually increasing its range and damage. Second Cast: Varus fires, dealing 10 / 43 / 77 / 110 / 143 (+1 per Attack Damage) to 15 / 65 / 115 / 165 / 215 (+1.6 per Attack Damage) physical damage, reduced by 15% per enemy hit (minimum 33%). While preparing to shoot Varus' Movement Speed is slowed by 20%. After 4 seconds, Piercing Arrow fails but refunds half its mana cost. Cooldown 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 seconds Cost 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 Mana Range 850 - 1475[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] [number]Mid: [/number]Useful to snipe enemies from afar. I decided to take only one point in it early to level up Varus utility skill first. It is also useful to check brushes - you can hear sound when it hits enemy. [number]Adc: [/number]It is scalling with ad quite properly but you shouldn't use it instead of auto attacking becuase you will simply do more damage that way. Use it to check brushes and snipe enemies from afar. Remember that if you are playing adc it will do way more damage without blight stacks. Second part of this skill is blight which can be detonated dealing massive damage depended on enemy max HP. this part of this skill lets you take down even very tanky enemies without problems. [number]Adc: [/number]This skill makes your last hitting easier and laning phase strong. Also it lets you to deal hybrid damage on early stage of the game with detonating blight stacks. In late game without building any MPEN and AP this skill is going to be weak but it can healp you in early game very much. Desecrated Ground slows enemy Movement Speed by 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45% and reduces healing effects by 50%. Cooldown 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 seconds Cost 80 Mana Range 925[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] [number]Mid: [/number]This skill is primal spell to detonate blight stacks ( even 4), also this can help you survive ganks by slowing their jungler down and walking away. [number]Adc: [/number]Good to detonate blight stacks from a distance. Great amount of slow can stop a gank on bot lane or help you in chasing fleeing enemy. Its aoe is alost quite big - you can max it first but I found it to be on too long cooldown and too big mana cost to use it as lane harrasment, but it is decent at wave clearing. The corruption then spreads towards nearby uninfected enemy champions, applying the same damage and immobilize if it reaches them. Cooldown 120 / 105 / 90 seconds Cost 120 Mana Range 1075[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] [number]Mid: [/number]This ultimate is amazing, it gives you very hard for of CC( very useful in team fights). It can save your life or secure a kill. It has 1:1 ap ratio which is huge improvement for AP Varus. Alway keep in mind that it is one of only several pure skill shot ultis in game and it can be dodged in many ways. ( do not risk shot at max range untill you are 100% sure that it is going to hit enemy) [number]Adc: [/number]This ultimate is one of best things you can want as an Ad carry. It gives you this what almost every ad carry is missing - hard form of CC. You can use it as initiation, make enemies suffer in team figt or use it to save your or your teammate's life. Hitting it isn't so crutial when playing as ad carry but you should hit it alomst every time too. Pros: [.]Very long range [.]Can immobilize whole enemy team [.]Good damage if you are playing ap Cons: [.]Skillshot - hitting it is [highlight]crucial[/highlight] [.]Stopped by spell shields and immune to cc ( both initial effect and spreading) [.]Possible to dodge with mobility skills [center][imgext=https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-SJg8CBPXuTE/UR_sTE68kvI/AAAAAAAAACc/6udGUycAhv0/s640/utivarus.jpg][/center] [highlight]Always remember - to play Varus properly you need knowladge of his kit.[/highlight]

[imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] is your main source of damage and it should be leveled right after your ultimate. [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] is your second form of CC and you need this to escape ganks or lock in place fleeing enemy. Maxing it rigt after [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] will make slow a lot more useful and increase damage a bit. [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png] isn't great skill for hybrid varus - it is going to do poor amounts of damage and one level in it to detonate blight stacks is everything you can take from this skill. Ad carry: 1)[img=skills/varus/r.png]>[img=skills/varus/w.png]>[img=skills/varus/q.png]>[img=skills/varus/e.png] [imgext=https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1mIvv0FOErQ/UPvCRtkunaI/AAAAAAAAABU/dC48eRZRez0/s800/Skillorder1.jpg] This skill order will maximaze your early game damage and let you win against tanky lanes but lanes you are playing aggresive against due to % of max HP damage. Leveling up [imgsmall=skills/varus/r.png] is obvious. Your [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] is your main source of damage early on and it helps you in last hitting. Level it first. [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png] is much more useful when you are playing as an ad carry and leveling it up is good choice becuase you will do much more damage with it. Sadly leveling it up isn't going to give you a big hit of damage it is still decent. If you are trying to poke your enemy in laning phase with it charge it while being in unwarded brush. If you are playing aggresively early on [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] isn't so useful and you are going to level up it last. 2)[img=skills/varus/r.png]>[img=skills/varus/e.png]>[img=skills/varus/w.png]>[img=skills/varus/q.png] [imgext=https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-uanxW6jhirc/UPvHOWSnslI/AAAAAAAAABw/RQfI8oFb1ho/s800/Skillorder2.jpg] You should use this skill order when you are facing very hard lane and you need wave clear and slow not to die and farm better. This skill order may be useful too if you are faceing such team that you need hard cc early on. Leveling [imgsmall=skills/varus/r.png] first of all is normal. On hard lane you need wave clear and slow not to get killed. [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] is great choice but it will burn your mana pool quite a lot - use it wisely. [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] is second skill to be leveled becuase you need to make a use of it - it is good in early game but much weaker in late when most of oponents will have too much MR to let adc deal magical damage. [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png] this skill is useless if you are not winning your lane. You should pick one point in it early due to its utiity and detonating bligth but nothing more.

You can use these combos when playing Varus as Ad carry but they aren't so important becuase your main source of damage are auto attacks and [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] is uesful for damage only in mid and early game. Varus combo requires several seconds to release it full power but it has exceptionally high damage against tanks. Generally later you use your ultimate you dealmore damage due to stacks on [imgsmall=items/malady.png] but you risk letting your target to escape. [center][highlight]Standard combo - can be used in any range with good effect[/highlight][/center] 1. 3 x auto attack 2. [img=skills/varus/r.png] - immoblization which lets you continue your combo. 3. 3 x auto attack 4. [img=skills/varus/e.png] - slow that let you hit enemy 3 more times. 5. 3 x auto attack 6. [img=skills/varus/q.png] - snipe target from afar. 7. ( if you need you can use [img=summoners/ignite.png] to secure the kill this same goes with all other combos) [center][highlight]Melee range combo - oponent is trying to chase you[/highlight][/center] 1. 3 x auto attack 2. [img=skills/varus/q.png] - without channeling, use it only to detonate blight in melee range 3. 3 x auto attack 4. [img=skills/varus/r.png] - this spell can let you keep distance from the enemy and hit him three times more 5. 3 x auto attack 6. [img=skills/varus/e.png] - this spell is better in some cases to detonate blight in mid range than q beucase it is simply easier to hit [center][highlight]Melee range combo - oponent is fleeing after trying to chase you[/highlight][/center] 1. 3 x auto attack 2. [img=skills/varus/q.png] - without channeling 3. 3 x auto attack 4. [img=skills/varus/e.png] - slow making your ulti easier to hit 5. 3 x auto attack ( note: at this poin you should apply on enemy all posible stacks of [imgsmall=items/malady.png] thx to magical damage of your ulti this combo does highest damage but is harder to hit and oponent has to be in melee range at first) 6. [img=skills/varus/r.png] - magic damage lets you kill the target easy, in many cases easier than with q or e [center][highlight]Mid range combo - you are chasing somebody who does not require fast immobilization[/highlight][/center] 1. 3 x auto attack 2. [img=skills/varus/e.png] - not so hard form of cc but this will let you slow your target and applay more [imgsmall=items/malady.png] stacks on him. 3. 3 x auto attack 4. [img=skills/varus/r.png] - move which lets you finish off the target without giving him any chance to survive ( in 2 secs you will hit 3 times for sure) 5. 3 x auto attack 6. [img=skills/varus/q.png] - sniping immobilized target is even easier, isn't it? I've tested some other combos but they are not working that well. Simply something is missing to help you do the damage. You should use one of these 4 combos best in the current situation and if you do not know which one use and you have the time to kill your oponent use Standard combo just becasue it is safest - you can see an example of it below. Ofcourse this video is presenting mainly combo, it isn't taken from true game and you should reach in this time much more power but it is still a good example of Standard combo for Varus.

[title][center]Mid[/center][/title] [highlight][title]Core items:[/title][/highlight] [img=items/malady.png] - this item is great for hybrid Varus as it gives him all stats he needs - attack speed, ability power, enemy mr reduction and works great with his W. [img=items/guinsoos-rageblade.png] - again item that gives Varus all stats he needs. It is very good on almost every hybrid champion so why not grab it as Varus? [highlight][title]AP path[/title][/highlight] [img=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png] - too good item to skip it currently. Makes you perefet hybrid balanced betweet physical and magical damage. Combine it with AS and great active. [img=items/rabadons-deathcap.png] - alwyas grab it as 5th item becuase Rabadon's will double your ap at this stage of the game and make you overall much stronger. [img=items/void-staff.png] - grab it if you need more mpen to kill their annoying tanks. Another item grabbed rarely in favor of defensive items. [img=items/runaans-hurricane.png] - with passive this item you can do your % hp damage from BotRK, stack blight, reduce their MR through [imgsmall=items/malady.png] to 3 targets at once. Isn't it beautiful? [highlight][title]AD path[/title][/highlight] [img=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png] - it improves your % hp damage by physical damage. It also gives you very nice sustain. ( feel free to build [imgsmall=items/vampiric-scepter.png] earlier in the game). Overall too good item to skip now. [img=items/frozen-fist.png] - as AD oriented Varus you will find yourself auto atacking enemy even more. This item gives Varus great stats ( both defensive and offensive) and even better passive. This item is expensive so you may consider buying it after proposed 6th item. [img=items/zephyr.png] - another item giving you both defnsive and offensive stats. CDR and movement speed will be helpful in runing and chasing. To this [highlight]+50 %[/highlight]attack speed and [highlight]20[/highlight] attack damage. Tenacity. Why not? [img=items/muramana.png] - this item is very strong on Varus. Varus isn't mana hungry - he uses very small amout of mana. This means that he can use passive of this item without fear that he won't be able to use his abilities. Bad thing is that [imgsmall=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png] is completly useless on him ( he even can't stack it due to his long cooldowns) and you have to go straight for [imgsmall=items/manamune.png] and stack it with auto attacks. [img=items/runaans-hurricane.png] - this is very offensiev choice and it allows you to improve your dmg to aoe and make great use of your on-hit effects. [highlight][title]Defensive choices[/title][/highlight] [img=items/banshees-veil.png] - pick it if enemy has very strong spells that need to be blocked when you are fighting.[imgsmall=champ/nidalee.png] spear and[imgsmall=champ/karthus.png] ulti are only examples. [img=items/frozen-mallet.png] - pick it if you need more HP and attack damage. Slow is very useful too - nobody can run away now. [img=items/guardian-angel.png] - nice armor and magic resistance and passive which can change game. Definitly very useful item in late game. [img=items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] - again item depended on enemy gameplay also adding some nice AP. Pick it when you feel that this is good choice. [img=items/mercurial-scimitar.png] - and again item depended on enemy play style adding some nice AD. Grab it when you need. [img=items/maw-of-malmortius.png] - a bit more offensive choice than [imgsmall=items/mercurial-scimitar.png] - it adds more attack damage when you are low HP and this shield is also very useful against some specific oponents. Building early [imgsmall=items/hexdrinker.png] will also make your laning phase against AP based champions much easier. [title][center]Ad carry[/center][/title] [highlight][title]Core items:[/title][/highlight] [img=items/berserkers-greaves.png]- this is best boots choice for every ad carry and Varus is no exception here. Always buy berserker greaves! 2x[img=items/dorans-blade.png]- doran's blades will increase your survivalbility, damage and let you stay on lane for longer time. [img=items/the-bloodthirster.png] - this item is great for an ad carry with ad ratios on skills and with missing sustain. Varus is one of these carries and The Bloodthister is great item for him becuase it fixes his sustain problems and increases his damage a lot. [img=items/zeal.png] - Varus is very low mobile champion. Ms from this item will fix it a bit. You need attack speed and critical strike chance - this first for applaying blight stacks faster and crits are obvious. Also this item is quite cheap for stats it gives. ([img=items/the-brutalizer.png]) - you can grab this item instead one [imgsmall=items/dorans-blade.png] if you are winning lanehard to increase your early game power even more. Although it will slow down your build a bit and if you will build it you are going to build [imgsmall=items/the-black-cleaver.png] which is worse than[imgsmall=items/last-whisper.png] in some cases. [highlight][title]Next items: [/title][/highlight] [img=items/phantom-dancer.png] - this item is update from [imgsmall=items/zeal.png] - it gives you passing through units and greatest criticall hit chance in the game. You can grab it before or after [imgsmall=items/infinity-edge.png] depending on stats you need. [img=items/infinity-edge.png] - best item for every ad carry because it gives you great stats and even better passive. You can buy it after or before [imgsmall=items/phantom-dancer.png] depending on this what you need. [img=items/last-whisper.png] - item you are going to need in every game to deal more damage to highly armored targets like tanks and fighters. Always grabb it even if they haven't got very much armor - it is simply very good item. [img=items/the-black-cleaver.png] - this item is better in some cases than [imgsmall=items/last-whisper.png] becuase it gives you attack speed, CDR, health and flat ARP, but it is much more expensive and it's passive requires hits to apply. But if you have an Ad assasin in your team like [imgsmall=champ/talon.png] it may be useful to have an item supporting not only you but your teammate. [highlight][title]Defensive items:[/title][/highlight] Defensive item is a must on varus becuase he has no escape ability. [img=items/guardian-angel.png] - great item. It gives you nice armor and magic resistance. Its passive is one of best passive in game becuase it gives your team 5 seconds more to kill oponents who were chasing you and lets you have another chance after being killed. [img=items/frozen-mallet.png] - this item gives you some HP you may need. Slow is also very useful when playing as ad carry not to let enemy run without burning flash or escape ability. [img=items/banshees-veil.png] - item depended on enemy gameplay. It may be useful against some very annoying, high damage skills like Karthus ultimate or Nidalee's spear. It also adds you some nice HP and mana ( ok... this is not that useful) and great MR. [img=items/mercurial-scimitar.png] - and again item depended on enemy gameplay - you may need it against some heavy CC teams. Also it adds some nice AD. Although this item is extremaly expensive.

[title][center]Mid[/center][/title] In early game as Varus you need to play passively at least to level 6 when you have medicore burst potential. Your main objective is to farm as much as it is possible and not to let your lane oponent snowball. Varus doesn't need blue buff so jungler can take every blue - it is just useless for him. He is not mana hungry and his cooldowns early are so long that this 20 % is nothing helpful in laning. When you hit lvl 6th you can coordinate ganks with your jungler. Varus is very strong when ganking his lane oponent becuase if jungler has at least a bit of cc an your ulti hits - this is free kill to finish off. About level 7 you can start roaming but be careful. Also you can try putting ward in enemy wraiths and observing their jungler. If he is doing wraiths with relatively low HP feel free to go for a kill but remember that they can have wards too. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Farm as much as you can [.] Coordinate ganks [.] Counter jungle their jungler at level 6 [.] Ward your lane and play as passively as you can until you are facing easy match up [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - remember about enemy summoner spells - they can be dangerous for you ( [imgsmall=summoners/exhaust.png] can help them kill you when gankig and shut down your burst by quite a lot) -do not even try to harras your oponent with [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png] or [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] when you haven't got [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] on him/her. This is waste of spell as they will do no damage and they are on very long cooldowns - you may need them in a moment to kill somebody and then realise that you haven't got spell to finish off the kill. -do not harras enemy with very high sustain and decent traders or with [imgsmall=items/crystalline-flask.png] and [imgsmall=items/health-potion3.png] beucase he is going to simply out-sustain you and push you out of lane ( miss CS and EXP). -if the enemy has ability to dodge your ulti ( [imgsmall=champ/fizz.png] ) do not use it in bad moment. Wait till it will be unexpected and fire it when you are 90% sure that it will hit. - if you can destroy somebody with your high range and constant damage, do not be afraid and do it - your game is going to be much easier then but still be aware of ganks, mostly of these made by high mobility junglers with cc ([imgsmall=champ/volibear.png])or very high damage output([imgsmall=champ/shaco.png] or [imgsmall=champ/evelynn.png]). [title][center]Ad carry[/center][/title] When you are playing Varus as AD carry your laning phase is exremaly strong and you should take adventage of it. You have great burst potential and very strong level 1 due to on hit damage from [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] and you can out-damage almost every ad carry on level 1. You have also quite big range of auto attacks and you should remember about it to poke your oponent. Do not forget about farming! You are ad carry and this is your main task through all the early and mid game. When you hit level 6 you should look for a kill. If you have good support like [imgsmall=champ/leona.png] or [imgsmall=champ/taric.png] you can kill your lane oponents almost for sure. Be aware of jungler ganks because you have no escape. In laning phase if you can win your lane play as aggresively as you can and zone enemy ad carry and kill support. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Do not forget that your main task is farming [.] Zone your oponents if you can [.] Play as aggresively as you can ( depending on situation ofc) [.] Do not push too much becuase you have no escape ability [.] You can try roaming becuase Varus ganks are extremaly strong [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - you should pick correct skill order depended on your lane. - do not poke your enemies with [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png] and [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] too much because it is going to burn your mana way too fast and you will find yourself without ability to use skills when you need. - do not bother yourself with harrasing enemy haveing heavy sustain support like [imgsmall=champ/soraka.png] but remember about your healing reduction. - do not risk missing ulti - champs like [imgsmall=champ/graves.png] or [imgsmall=champ/ezreal.png] can dodge it with their dash/blink skills - you should know summoner spells enemy ran - if their support has no [imgsmall=summoners/exhaust.png] or has [imgsmall=summoners/heal.png] you should think about it.

[center][title]Mid[/title][/center] Varus laning phase is not great but thanks to using some tips/items you can do your job against most of enemies. In this paragraph I won't describe only laning phase but their team fights strength. Difficulty: Easy -[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Medium -[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Hard -[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Very hard -[imgsmall=items/sanguine-blade.png]( Better play as normal ad carry) [center]Ahri[/center] [center][img=champ/ahri.png][/center] This fox may be problematic in laning phase. Her mobility at level 6th is very high and she'll probably look for a kill at this point. Her weakness is quite similar to you - she needs some time to kill her target. Make a use of it and remember that her ulti is very good to dodge skill shots - all your abilities are skill shots - but she can't ulti when she is snared. This lane can be tough but if you'll dodge her charm and harras you should be OK. Keep in mind that her ganks are strong and other lanes may be in danger. Play as usually passively and wait till late game when Ahri is not so good and Varus shines. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path- AP [center]Akali[/center] [center][img=champ/akali.png][/center] Akali is very strong anti carry and if fed she can become unstopable and just walk through the map and take kills. As her lane oponent you should never let this happen. Always inform your teammates when akali is leaving lane and if it is possible follow. Thing that can make akali suffer in laning phase is[imgsmall=items/vision-ward.png] in the middle of the lane. You can play agressively in this lane before she hits level 6. Then she is scarry and you should play as far from her as you can. Consider grabbing early [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png]. Keep in mind that she is squishy and if you can coordinate gank with your ulti properly she might die. Akali loosing lane is Akali loosing game - without kills she is useless. If she leaves your lane ward it and push as much as you can. In team fights do not let her kill your ad carry even if you'd have to burn ulti. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path- AP [center]Anivia[/center] [center][img=champ/anivia.png][/center] Anivia is very strong mage who can deal very high magic damage. Her passive makes her immune to burst and she is very strong in late game due to aoe dmg, cc and high survivalbility. She is also hard to deal in lane because Varus need to get in range of auto attack to deal damage and then Anivia can combo him with her ulti + e and fly away. This lane is very hard if Anivia knows what is she doing. Luckily she has weaknes - she has no escape ability and is squishy, this means you can gank this bird and (thx to your on hit effects) destroy egg. Anivia and Varus in late game are equal deal but varus does more damage to tanks and his CC is more useful in team fights. Do not focus this bird if not necessary. Consider buying early [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png]and keep distance from her. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path-AP [center]Annie[/center] [center][img=champ/annie.png][/center] The dark child has no range to harras you - your both ranges are this same. This means she can only flash + combo you trying to get a kill. Generally this is passive lane what means that you are advantaged and you can scale to late game better than she can. Her mobility is low and her ganks aren't that powerful also she can be ganked successfully. In late game she can do a lot of damage and CC your team quite hard but she is quite easy to focus and your CC has greater aoe. Generally you both can kill yourselves in late game but care becuase her combo can be casted 2-3x faster and stun you initially. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Brand[/center] [center][img=champ/brand.png][/center] Brand is great in almost every team becuase his burst is very high and multi-target. He has % HP damage too but it is much weaker in late game. His CC is single target stun and your ulti can snare whole enemy team. In laning phase dodge his Pilar or flame and you should be fine. When you know that his W is on cooldown and you are behind minions you can hit him 3 times and then [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] and he won't be able to return his damage. If he is poking you successfully you should grab early [imgsmall=items/vampiric-scepter.png] to sustain through his harras. Generally this match up goes on Varus favour. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Cassiopeia[/center] [center][img=champ/cassiopeia.png][/center] Cassiopeia is very strong caster with aoe stun and high damage output. You can't kill her in lane becuase she needs time to release her combo just like you but her combo does more damaged and stuns you in the beggining. Play passively and try not to let her poke you down. She is strong in late game but she can be focused by tanks and taken down quite fast becuase her damage output is a bit smaller then. Generally this match up is equal and you both shouldn't kill each other. In team fights and late game positioning will be everything and this how cassiopeia will use her ulti will decide about the game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Diana[/center] [center][img=champ/diana.png][/center] Diana is still strong champion even after nerf. Her combo is painful and damage with q still very high but [imgsmall=summoners/exhaust.png] can take down a lot of her killing potential. In laning phase she is easy to deal with if you can dodge her q. Also her tankiness is not very usefull against varus - if she tries to combo you from full HP don't be afraid ( you migh buy early [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png] for 100% sefty) just exhaust her when she jump to you and release your combo. This is even easier with jungler help. In late game she is not danger beside this that she can jump on ad carry. Protect ad carry and win team fights when she can do nothing. Always remember that if any assasin gets fed he/she is much harder to deal with. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Evelynn[/center] [center][img=champ/evelynn.png][/center] Evelynn isn't really hard match up for Varus, his range is much better and he can burst Evelynn from afar. He can also poke Eve every time she is last hitting so take advantage of that. To this her late game is weak because she is very short range mage - squishy with no def beside shield and slow from ulti. In team fights you are way more usful becuase your CC is harder and you are way harder to be focused and die. But you should ward your lane with pink ward and tell your team when she is leaving it to preven her from getting fed with her op stealth and damage... Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Fizz[/center] [center][img=champ/fizz.png][/center] Fizz is very tricky fish - he can dodge your ulti with easy, CC and kill you and do more damage on every stage of the game. It is even worse becuase you can do nothing against him - he is very hard to gank and you'll never kill him when he'll be able to kill you so many times. In team fights you are going to be useless because he won't let you farm and will take free kills on you. Probably one of the worst match ups for Varus. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/sanguine-blade.png] Item path- Both don't work well. But if you have to face fizz go AD and build defensive items. [center]Galio[/center] [center][img=champ/galio.png][/center] Galio's early game is strong due to his harras and high mr. His ultimate is game changing - he is as strong in team fights as you. Although in lane you can punish him by going AD and buying early [imgsmall=items/quicksilver-sash.png] then he will be still annoying but not that strong against you. In team your team should have somebody with long range cc ( for example [imgsmall=champ/soraka.png]) who can break chanell of his ultimate. Generally playing against galio is passive, in team fights you may need to target him and burst him down because he can change the tide of the game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AD [center]Gragas[/center] [center][img=champ/gragas.png][/center] Gragas range is very high and in laning phase his sustain is very useful. He is quite tanky also. But this all is not a kit to win lane against Varus becuase his combo takes even more time to do its full damage and you can burst him faster because your CC is controllable unlike his. In team fights his ulti is as useful as your own becuase it is massive aoe CC which can be used in many different ways. Generally this match up goes for Varus favor because of more controlled kit and damage. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Karthus[/center] [center][img=champ/karthus.png][/center] Karthus is as passive laner as you - his all strength focuses on global ultimate. He is also great team fighter. In laning phase you both will only farm from afar and karthus will use his ultimate. At this stage of the game he is way more usful than you becuase you have nohing which can stop his ulti ( both casting and its effect). In late game he is very powerful and scarry for your team. Early on you can out burst him but after his items he will become walking field of death and there is nothing you can do. Luckily your cc is this what he lacks so in team fights you will be as painful for enemy team as he for your team. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png]- laning Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png]- general game Item path-AP [center]Kassadin[/center] [center][img=champ/kassadin.png][/center] Kassadin is hard to deal against every caster. Here Varus is not special - Kassadin is hard match up for him too. He has long range teleport to dodge all your skills and 3 seconds silence - these things makes Kassa scarry opponent. Do everything to punish him till level 6 - then play passively under turret. Grabbing early [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png] is a wise decision. Generally Varus is not champion to own Kassadin even built as ad carry - he is depended on his skillshot abilities, luckily not fed Kassadin is not that scarry so in team fights Varus should be way more useful particulary if team will focus this anti - mage. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path-AD [center]Katarina[/center] [center][img=champ/katarina.png][/center] Katarina is definitly hard match up for Varus. I reccomend taking [imgsmall=summoners/exhaust.png] as summoner spell to take down her burst. In general she can do more flat damage in shorter period but need to get in melee range of her oponents and she has no CC. Take advantage of her weaknesses never forgetting about her strong burst and about this you can't win with her at level six becuase your ulti can't break channel abilites ( it is onyl immobilization). Luckily until she is fed she isn't so scarry and if she won't snowaball hard you will do your job in team fights and generally in late game much better. Be carreful and avoid trying to 1v1 Katarina until you are winning your lane hard - most caution in laning phase. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path-AP [center]Kennen[/center] [center][img=champ/kennen.png][/center] Kennen in laning phase isn't very dangerous - you should dodge his harras whenever possible and if he is trying to get near you return as much damage as you can and at level 6 burst him down. Kennen shines there where Varus shines - in team fights. His CC in team fights is as good as your own and he does great aoe damage. He is difficult oponent and you have to do your job better than he if you want to be better in this game. Beside this Varus can 1v1 Kennen ( even easier when his ulti is on cooldown). Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Kha'zix[/center] [center][img=champ/khazix.png][/center] Kha'zix is quite new mid but his damage output and survivalbility makes him scarry oponent in laning phase. He has long range jump ( range is [highlight]VERY[/highlight] long if skill is evolved), invisibility ( if evolved followed with damage reduction) long range harras with sustain and high damage with low mana cost and cooldown. These skills makes him scarry oponent in some cases but as Varus you should take advantage of your range trying to win lane against Kha'zix. It is quite hard to compare them in team fights because they are champions with very different roles but generally Varus is better pick for his team and game controll. Do not try 1v1 Kha'zix as he will punish you with his jumps, higher damage and invisibility ( can be countered by [imgsmall=items/vision-ward.png] in the middle of the lane). Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]LeBlanc[/center] [center][img=champ/leblanc.png][/center] LeBlanc is very annoying match up - she can kill you faster and with very little danger. Her burst is exceptionally high and she is dangerous for you in all the game. You shouldn't pick Varus against LeBlanc becasue this is good way to let her snowball great. Although, you are much better than LeBlanc in late game becuase your CC is bettter and in team fights you can do damage to many targets not just to one and walk away. Generally you shouldn't pick Varus mid against LeBlanc, let she be countered and [highlight]play as normal ad carry[/highlight]. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path-AP ( if playing is neccesary) [center]Lux[/center] [center][img=champ/lux.png][/center] Lux is champion annoying in laning phase particulary if she hits her e properly. Her burst is quite high and she can harras you effectivly. Her weakness is her passive - many Lux players will come near to you to pop Lux passive - take advantege of it and return as many hits as possible followed up with [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] and she should take less damage than you. Also if you'll let her immobilize you while being at about 70 % hp she can kill you withut problems. You may consider grabbing early [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png] to take down her burst or [imgsmall=items/vampiric-scepter.png] to sustain through her harras. In team fights your CC is much more usefull and you should do more damage. Some Lux players build as much CDR as they can and her ulti can be used twice in one fight. Then she can do as much damage as you. In laning phase this match up is on your adventage. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Malzahar[/center] [center][img=champ/malzahar.png][/center] Malzahar is champion hard to deal against. He has strong pushing and at level 6 he can burst Varus down without any problems. Playing passively is not really good choce in here because he still can flash + combo you can't survive it if you have no flash before he ulti you. Take advantage of his -1 mobility ( his ulti can only prevent him from moving) and try to gank him if you have jungler able to break his ultimate. In late game he is as good in killing tanks as you and he hurts a lot but your CC is better. This isn't favorable match up for Varus but grabbing early [imgsmall=items/quicksilver-sash.png] will make his burst not so scarry. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Mordekaiser[/center] [center][img=champ/mordekaiser.png][/center] Mordekaiser is one of not many chapions even weaker than you in early game. You can easly take down his shield with auto attacks and pop blight with [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] - if you'll do it right after he uses his e he won't be able to return any damage. He is also very vulanrable for ganks and if your jungler has even only one stun with your ulti almost every gank should finish succesfully. Mordekaiser is champion scalling to late game as well as you but he has 0 CC. In team fights take advantage of it and target him as fast as possible to prevent him from getting ghost of ad carry which is scarry for your team and can win the game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Morgana[/center] [center][img=champ/morgana.png][/center] Morgana is stron in laning phase because she can farm without any problems and her damage is high if she catch you in her q. Her shield is also annoying as she can protect herself from most damage dealed by common mid match ups but as hybrid champion half of your damage will pass through her shield without problems( remember not to ulti her when she has it up - it is waste of long CD ulti). In laning try to hide behind minions and auto attack this anti mage as much as you can becuase she won't be able to retur any damage without loosing CS. In late game she is scarry becuase her CC is even better than your and she can't be killed becuase 95 % of Morganas build Zhonya's but her damage is not so high and she is squishy. In team fights target her first and take down before she will be able to do something serious. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AD [center]Nidalee[/center] [center][img=champ/nidalee.png][/center] This cat has similar early game to you, she does everything passivly to level 6 when she can start playing aggresively. Key to succes against her is not to let her get into melee range - keep her on distance - and dodge every spear you see. If she is in cougar form and she can combo you you are in most cases going to die but she is squishy and you should take advantege of it. This cat is hard to catch but if you locked her in your ulti she can not pounce away and with jungler's help she is going to die in very many situations. In late game you are 10 times better in team fights becuase she has no CC, can be easly focused and killed in cougar form and to deal damage in human form she has to be far away from fighting teams. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Orianna[/center] [center][img=champ/orianna.png][/center] Orianna is very stron AP champion. In laning phase she isn't that strong becuase her passive is useless against you - your auto attacks will do more damage due to your attack speed. She has no very high damage in early game - simply do not her harras you down enough to let her kill you and you should be OK. Her defense is medium but your ganks will still usually finish succesfully. In late game she is as scarry as you - she has two forms of CC and her damage output is huge. The one playing this match up better is going to be more useful in late game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Ryze[/center] [center][img=champ/ryze.png][/center] Ryze is very difficult to deal against as Varus. Every time you will enter range of your auto attack you will also enter range of his abilities and let him punish you 2-3 times harder becuase of his abilities to do constant damage and burst at once. Do not let him poke you in early game and play passivly. In late game you are both equally effective but your CC in team fights is much stronger and ability to take down tanks will be extreamly useful because ryze has tones of HP. Take him down when needed and focus on doing your job. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Swain[/center] [center][img=champ/swain.png][/center] Swain is tanky caster with very high damage and laning phase and early game which dimnishes with time. In laning phase early on you can't kill him and dodge nevermove every time he casts it or you will cry why his 3 spells took down 60 % of your HP. About level 11 your combo can take him down. Remember about your [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] which is good aoe healing reduction to make effectivness of his ulti smaller. In late game you are much better than him becuase you have better CC, more damage and generally you are better add on to team than he is, simply do not let him snowball in early game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Syndra[/center] [center][img=champ/syndra.png][/center] Syndra combo is quite similar to your but her range is larger and her combo does mad damage. In lanign phase you can't win this match up - you are going to be harrased for death and killed when possible. This is definitly bad match up for Varus and better not risk it. You can cooperate some ganks on her but her Scatter the Weak is very strong spell which can throwe you and your jungler away while being stunned. In late game she has tones of damage and you have only better CC. [highlight]Better play as normal ad carry[/highlight]. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/sanguine-blade.png] Item path-AP [center]Talon[/center] [center][img=champ/talon.png][/center] Talon is definitly hard match up. His early game is decent but after getting all 4 skills his combo is scarry and he can burst you down with easy. Early [imgsmall=items/seekers-armguard.png] is a [highlight]must[/highlight]. His invisibility is definitly annoying and his damage is high - play this match up as passively as you can or simply avoidy it. Talon in late game is very strong due to his potential in killing ad carries. In team fights protect ad carry as hard as you can and make use of CC - only thing that he hasn't and you have. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path-AD [center]Tristana[/center] [center][img=champ/tristana.png][/center] This match up is hell for Varus. Her burst is very strong and mobility high. She can poke you 2-3 times with explosive shot then just jump and take free kill. At level six she can tower dive you with easy every 60 seconds ( cooldown of her ulti) and just feed on you. If fed in team fights she is great becuae she can jump on high priority target ( like ad carry ) and in most cases suecide, but your team will have much less damage. Her survivalbility is also quite high.[highlight]Never ever play Varus mid if in enemy team is Tristana. NEVER. She is simply going to snowball on you too much[/highlight] Verdict-[imgsmall=items/sanguine-blade.png] Item path- If you have to play this game go as much mr as you can and build AD. [center]Twisted Fate[/center] [center][img=champ/twistedfate.png][/center] In laning phase he is not that big deal - you can out burst him easy. His true strength is in his almost global ulti which lets him help other lanes and make them win the game. His ganks are unpredictable and strong. In laning phase try to punish him as strong as you can. He is decent team fighter but his CC is only one target and his damage output is not that high - in this point of the game you are much more usefull. In late game when you lost one of nexus turrets you need to A) Ward whole jungle around it B) One teammate has to stay in base to defend nexus - why? becuase TF can ulti just to base and incredibly fast destroy tower and nexus. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] - laning Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] -general game due to his gamechanging ultimate. Item path-AP [center]Veigar[/center] [center][img=champ/veigar.png][/center] Veigar burst hurts and his e is good while ganking but you are hybrid champion who can handle him. Build early [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png] and laugh in his face. At level 11 you can easly out burst him if he is not hitting his e right into stun. Then you can simply combo him while being insade it and burst him faster than he can do anything to you. Always care of their jungler and ward your lane properly. In late game veigar can burst down almost everyone but due to nerf on [imgsmall=items/deathfire-grasp.png] he can't take down tanks so easy anymore. In team fights his CC is very useful and damage is great but if you can play it properly you can go out ahead. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Vladimir[/center] [center][img=champ/vladimir.png][/center] Vladimir is late game mage with great damage and even better ulti. In laning phase he isn't so hard due to your healing reduction and his long CDS. Always keep in mind that his pool lets him to dodge your ulti and avoid damage for 2 seconds. In laning phase you can punish him but when he enters mid and late game he is way harder to play againts. In team fights your CC will be extremaly useful and you should consider targeting him first due to his strong late game damage and high HP. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Item path-AP [center]Zyra[/center] [center][img=champ/zyra.png][/center] Zyra is oftener played as suport right now but she is still strong pick for mid. In laning phase you should do everything to dodge her roots becuase she can deal you with her combo such damage that you have to play behind turret till HP pots will work or she will just kill you with another root. This lane is hard becuase you have to dodge every her e or you are going to die. In team fights her CC is equally good or even better and she can do some significat damage. Definitly this is hard match up for mid Varus. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Item path-AP You may noticed that I generally prefer AP path - that's not true. The path you pick to play in the game should be depended on damage that your team need( you have ap jungler/top) and on enemy( this thing is described up). [center][title]Ad carry[/title][/center] Varus ad carry laning phase is great and he should win lane against almost every match up but there are some champs who are doing well against him and some of them are real pain. Anyway you are not going to meet on bot enemies who can destroy you so much like on mid. Difficulty: Easy -[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Medium -[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Hard -[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] [center]Graves[/center] [center][img=champ/graves.png][/center] Graves is definitly one of hardest match ups for Varus - his passive makes him harder to harras and to kill generally. His burst is very stong, pure physical damage and faster than yours. In early game you should avoid tradeing with him and play passively. In mid and late game he is quite powerful too but he has no CC beside his weak W. In general he is one of the hardest match ups for Varus and if he is on lane with [imgsmall=champ/taric.png] this can be real hell lane for Varus practically with no chance to win - they both are way too tanky to be killed. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Skill order: 2) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/alistar.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] [center]Ezreal[/center] [center][img=champ/ezreal.png][/center] Ezreal is annoying match up - he has free flash and strong long range poke. To this mix of physical and magical damage but he isn't so hard match up for Varus if you are not leveling [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png] first ( and you are not I hope). You can easly out-damage him in auto attack trades and if you have minions between you and him it is even easier becuase he won't be able to return any damage. Bad side of this match up is this that he can kill you relatively easy if there is no minions between you and him or he has good offensive support. In team fights he has no CC beside slow from [imgsmall=items/frozen-fist.png] but he does great multi target damage. You need to be careful when faceing Ezreal. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] or even [imgsmall=champ/soraka.png] [center]Miss Fortune[/center] [center][img=champ/missfortune.png][/center] Miss is champion very strong in early and mid game but no so good in late game. Mechanically she is quite similar to you - no escape ability for more damage. In laning phase you are going to have easy time because she won't be able to make a use of her passive due to your long range poke. To this you can out-damage this ad carry with your combo and your range is much better. In laning you should avoid being harrased with her Double up and remember that her ulti does very high damage in early game and you should be OK. In team fights her damage is decent but your CC will win this game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] [center]Vayne[/center] [center][img=champ/vayne.png][/center] Vayne is typicall late game carry - she has strong true damage and high possiblities to chase targets but her laning phase is terrible. In early laning you should win this lane with easy if you have correct support - she has no skills to deal with you, her % of max HP damage will hurt you less and she can stun you with condemn only if you are near the wall. She is also vulenrable to CC. Do not forget about her invisibilty beucase it can be extremaly annoying. In team fights and late game she is harder but she has no CC. In late game she is going to out-damage you but you will bring more utility to your team and if you will eat this late game champ in laning phase she will have much harder time. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] [center]Corki[/center] [center][img=champ/corki.png][/center] The daring bombardier is very annoying to lane against but Varus is his counter - he out-bursts him, out ranges him and is much more useful in team fights. In early laning if he is poking you with q return as much damage as you can and use [imgsmall=skills/varus/e.png] to detonate blight stacks. His passive is annoying but your magic damage is higher than his true damage and he has only 2 skills scallying with ad and they are scallying quite poorly. In generall this match up goes on Varus favour hard. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] or even [imgsmall=champ/soraka.png] due to constant harras [center]Sivir[/center] [center][img=champ/sivir.png][/center] Sivir is quite often used as counter to Varus becuase she can block all of his abilities with her spell shield including ultimate and out-damage him in low distance trades. Although Varus CC is much more useful in this casebecuase sivir has only damage and 2 MS buffs when Varus can root whole enemy team. Do not forget that her spell shield will stop all parts of your ultimate not only initial cast. Do not use it on her ustil you are 100% sure she can't block it. In team fights she is going to damage a lot of targets at one but you have your CC. This who is better in this game depends hardly on this what does your team need. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/alistar.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] [center]Ashe[/center] [center][img=champ/ashe.png][/center] Ashe is late game carry due to her slows and strong initiation. She is also annoying in laning phase becuase of constant long range harras. I found laning against Ashe quite annoying but in small fights you should win becuase her ultimate stuns for very low duration if it is fired from a small distance. In late game she is strong becuase of her constand quite high DPS and one of best initiation ultis in game - but your ulti is better becuase it hits more targets and your rage is bigger. In general Varus isn't perfect counter to ashe ( better play [imgsmall=champ/ezreal.png]) but he is doing generally better through all the game than she. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png][imgsmall=champ/sona.png]( good harrasement) [center]Caitlyn[/center] [center][img=champ/caitlyn.png][/center] Caitlyn is stron in laning phase but Varus is even stronger - his range is quite similar to her range and she can't poke you with auto attacks. Her skills are good but her q is easy to dodge, even easier than your [imgsmall=skills/varus/q.png]. Also her CC is not viable and she is going to loose trades with you. In late game and team fights her skills are preety useless when your CC will win the game. In generall you should win laen against Caitlyn easy and do your job better in late game. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/long-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/leona.png][imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png] [center]Kog'maw[/center] [center][img=champ/kogmaw.png][/center] Kog'maw is late game carry with amazing range through use of W, long range harras and hybrid damage. In laning phase he is easy to be harrased becuase his normal auto attack range is very low and your damage on-hit is much higher. When you both hit level 6 Varus can out-burst Kog'maw and win laning phase with easy if you can hit your skills becuase your damage early on is much higher - simply do not let Kog'maw harras you with ulti a lot. In team fights Kog'maw has no escape ability or CC but his damage are ranges are greater than you - he can out-range you with W and out damage you with AS steroid and % max HP damage. Generally you can win this lane early on but in late game you will need your CC to win team fights. Your tanks and fighters should focus him and take down as fast as possible. Verdict-[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] Skill order: 1) Will be harder to deal with if paired with: [imgsmall=champ/taric.png][imgsmall=champ/blitzcrank.png][imgsmall=champ/nunu.png] As you may see, Varus is good against almost every lane and he should use 2) skill order very seldom but if you are loosing your lane feel free to use it.

[title]Good supports:[/title] [img=champ/leona.png] - great CC which synergises with your own. She will help you get kills on lane and protect you very good. In teamfights her CC will make your ulti work better - probably the best support for Varus. [img=champ/taric.png] - long range CC, useful heal and great auras make taric stong lane partner. With him you can zone your oponents and play your better way - aggresive. [img=champ/nunu.png] - his slow and MS/AS buffs will give you everything you need. When he is casting his ultimate you can root enemies in place to prevent them from escapeing from its radious. [img=champ/alistar.png] - he can be both aggresive and defensive, if he is good he won't let your enemies kill you. His CC is also very useful in team fights becuase he can initiate with it. [img=champ/blitzcrank.png] - if he can hit his grabs he is great support for Varus becuase at level 6 every his grab will end up in a kill if enemy have no stron disinitiator like [imgsmall=champ/janna.png]. [img=champ/zyra.png] - if she can land her skills properly she is good in laning phase. Her true power is there where yours - in team fights you can do really a lot of damage and CC whole enemy team for a lon duration of time. [title]Decent supports:[/title] [img=champ/fiddlesticks.png] - his harras is quite good and CC mad but he will be rarely in range to land it. But if enemies aren't careful then he can catch them out of position and kill with you easly. [img=champ/lulu.png] - her abilities and quite good add on to your kit but nothing special. Anyway her kit is very good and she is great in team fights but she isn't the best in the laning phase with Varus. [img=champ/zilean.png] - his harras is extremaly annoying for the ooposing enemy lane and his speed buff and debuff are very strong. He can give you 2nd chance to kill your oponens but there are better supports than he for Varus... [title]Bad supports:[/title] [img=champ/soraka.png] - god, please. No CC, you should never find yourself running out of mana and her heals aren't that great. She is definitly bad support for Varus. [img=champ/janna.png] - maybe AD steroid is useful but you need initiator not disinitiator. Also her ulti is true couonter to your ulti... please do not do it! [img=champ/sona.png] - like previous 2 Varus needs aggresive support and sona has only 1 form of CC and harras which isn't so useful in laning. Generally Varus works properly with aggresive supports with strong AOE or CC - they are simply best because he is very strong in laning phase and he needs aggresive support to make a use of it.

[center][title]Mid[/title][/center] In mid game Varus starts to shine. You should have your core items now and deal some nice damage. First team fights happen in mid game so take an advantage of your team fights power and cooperate with team properly. Always remember about dragons - take as many of them as you can. At lvl 11 Varus burst is equal to other ap mid champions so in this point you can try to win your lane but always when you push buy wards! Varus is all the game vulanrable to 1vX situations. When you will push enemy out of lane you can take down turret ( if you don't need more farm - have your core) and roam. With your ganking potential you are going to get many kills. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Keep farming [.] Take as many drakes with your team as possible [.] Force team fights becuase there hybrid Varus shines most [.] Put [imgsmall=items/sight-ward.png] all over the map ( not as many as support ) [.] Roam and try to get kills [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] -if you can proc as much [imgsmall=items/malady.png] in team fight if you can - this will increase your damage quite a lot. -you need to push tower when other lanes aren't doing that well or when you already have your core items - this will let you roam easier and give your team nice gold. -even if you pushed your tower, you still need to farm. Your other items can make you as powerful as your core in mid game. - just like in late game in smaller team fights do not let their anti-carries target you and if they will, immidiatly switch target and ulti into face of that [imgsmall=champ/akali.png]. If your team has oracle's she should be dead in 2 seconds. - if your team is ready for early Baron go for it but be extremaly careful - do not risk giving them a lot of kills due to a stupid idea [center][title]Ad carry[/title][/center] In mid game you shouldn't stop farming and laning phase should start ending. If you can and you have correct amount of items you should try pushing the tower. If you can try to force early team fights becuase Varus is very strong in this stage of the game. Your damage should be now balanced between magical and physical and killing targets of your choice shouldn't be hard. In mid game you should remember about killing as many Dragons as you can and if it is possible take early Baron - but be extremaly careful about it. You should you your killing potential to grab some kills and balance your weak late game with haveing more items than enemy adc can have. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Keep farming [.] Take as many drakes with your team as possible [.] Force team fights becuase there Varus in general shines most due to his aoe damage and CC [.] Roam and try to get kills [.] Push bot tower if you can [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - be careful about positioning - if enemy will find you out of position, in mnid game you are even easier to kill. - push tower only if you have your most important items or other lanes aren't doing well becuase in some cases leaving tower in piece is better than destroying it. - be aware of enemies who can zone you out of team fight and tell your support to protect you from them. - if your team is ready for early Baron go for it but be extremaly careful - do not risk giving them a lot of kills due to a stupid idea

[center][title]Mid[/title][/center] In late game with Varus your burst is very high not depending on enemy HP. In this stage of the game you should go only with team and try to push towers. Drake is still usful but Baron is now main object to capture. In late game team fights will happen very often and this will be only type of comba you'll have. As Varus in this stage of the game positioning is essential becuase if you will be focused by their anti carry or other (examples [imgsmall=champ/diana.png],[imgsmall=champ/elise.png],[imgsmall=champ/fizz.png],[imgsmall=champ/akali.png],[imgsmall=champ/nocturne.png]) you will finish dead without dealing any damage. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Push to win [.] Take every Baron you can [.] Put [imgsmall=items/sight-ward.png] everywhere until you have full build [.] Go everywhere with team staying back [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - if you will get in range of enemy melee fighter ( care obout these with gap closers probably worst think to happen is being focused by [imgsmall=champ/fiora.png] ) you are going to have hard time - make a good use of your range - if you haven't your full build yet keep farming till you have it + [imgsmall=items/oracles-elixir.png], [imgsmall=items/elixir-of-fortitude.png] and [imgsmall=items/elixir-of-brilliance.png]. - do not get cough by going alone somewhere... that's obvious [center][title]Ad carry[/title][/center] This is phase of game when ad carry Varus isn't so strong but his kit is very useful in team fights and you can deal with it with any enemy becuase as ad carry with strong CC you can turn the tide of the game. You shouldn't go anywhere without your team because you can only die in this way. In any fights remember to stay back not to let their anti-carries target you with easy/ In late game your [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] will do practically no damage so feel free to use all of your skills without stacks on enemy purely for increase damage output and slow. Baron is also quite importan in this stage of the game and kill him whenever you can. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Push to win [.] Take every Baron you can [.] Put [imgsmall=items/sight-ward.png] everywhere until you have full build becuase as ad carry you are going to have a lot of gold [.] Go everywhere with team staying back [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - your main source of damage are auto attacks now and you can fire all of your skills as fast as possible to make a best use of their damage and crowd controll - you can use your ulti in team fights as initiation but the best way to use it is when your ulti is going to hit all 5 champions of enemy team. Good way to use it is also to catch target out of possition to let your real initiators like [imgsmall=champ/maokai.png] jump on the target and take him down. - try not to get cough becuase your team without ad carry will be in trouble. - when you will finish your build do not forget to buy [imgsmall=items/elixir-of-fortitude.png][imgsmall=items/elixir-of-brilliance.png] and [imgsmall=items/oracles-elixir.png]

[center][title]Mid[/title][/center] Hybrid Varus shines in this point of the game. You need to take down their front line and if possible carries. Take advantage of your strong, multi target CC. Try to protect ad carry as well as you can. Never forget to stay back because you are squishy and to deal damage you need time. Positioning is the key to win team fight as Varus so you will need to be extremaly careful [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Take down enemy fighters/tanks and carries if they are in your range [.] ( beucase they have to die as well and you can kill them easiest probably easiest in the game) [.] Protect ad carry [.] Make use of Varus CC [.] Take care of gap closers and do not let them focus you and take a kill before even doing any damage [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - in late game team fights as AD oriented you will do more constant damage and more flat damage but a bit less damage to tanks and tanky enemies- remember about it - as AP you should focus tanks because you can kill them really easy and let your team kill their squisies without much problems - you shouldn't burn your [imgsmall=skills/varus/r.png] without stacks of [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] on target but you can sometimes do it to save your teammate or catch fleeing enemy. [center][title]Ad carry[/title][/center] Varus is very useful in team fight becuase of his CC and aoe damage but he is easy to be targeted by enemy anti-carries and fighters/tanks. Positioning is a key to win and you should make a use of your long range. Take down high priority targets and do not run through the team fight in order to target carry - it is simply not viable. You should hit your ultimate when it can hit multiple targets. [highlight]Main objectives:[/highlight] [.] Take down enemy high priority targets and carries if they are in your range [.] Make use of Varus CC [.] Take care of gap closers and do not let them focus you and take a kill before even doing any damage [.] Stay alive as much time as you can becuase you should deal great damage if youi have some amount of time. [highlight]Notes:[/highlight] - in late game make everything to increase time you stay in fight, tell support to protect you rather than attack enemy. - use your ulti as an initiation and mostly when it can hit a lot of targets. - do not stack blight when you haven't got time for it - feel free to use your skills without stacking [imgsmall=skills/varus/w.png] only for CC and fast damage.
