This is the fourth guide of my support guides series, featuring Soraka. Poor Soraka has been nerfed (and slightly buffed) numerous times, but she remains a strong pick in both solo queue and competitive play. Out of all the supports, she remains the easiest to learn and start with. Even then, Soraka has a decently high skillcap and requires amazing reflexes to be great with. Check out my Support Overview Guide for more general support information! http://www.solomid.net/guides.php?g=6097

Soraka is a very squishy support champion with weak base health. However, she has the most burst healing out of all the champions and is a very strong sustain support. [highlight]Strengths: [/highlight] +High sustain +High burst healing +Huge armor buff +Fast casting disable +Global healing +MR aura [highlight] Weaknesses:[/highlight] -Weak base health -Weak healing pre-level 3 -No escapes -Long cooldowns on heal -Short range offensive ability

The rune page I run for Soraka focuses on maximizing cooldown reduction due to Soraka's passivity in lane and long skill cooldowns. [imgext=http://i.imgur.com/lMEUe.png]

[title][img=skills/soraka/p.png] Passive: Consecration[/title] [number]Increases surrounding allies' magic resistance by 16.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] 16 Magic Resistance, level 1. OP. [title][img=skills/soraka/q.png] Q: Starcall[/title] [number]Strikes nearby enemy units for 60/85/110/135/160 (+40% of ability power) magic damage and reduces their Magic Resistance by 8/9/10/11/12 for 8 seconds This effect stacks up to 10 times. Cooldown 2.5 seconds Cost 35/40/45/50/55 mana Range 660[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Even at 8 Magic Resistance per stack, the effects of Starfall is very noticeable in long dragged fights. However, always be careful to not put yourself in range of enemy skills, since Soraka is very fragile. [highlight]Note:[/highlight] The MR reduction works on neutral creeps (fast Barons/Dragons). [title][img=skills/soraka/w.png] W: Astral Blessing[/title] [number]Restores 70/140/210/280/350 (+45% of ability power) health and grants 25/50/75/100/125 bonus armor for 5 seconds. Cooldown 20 seconds Cost 80 / 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 mana Range 750[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Astral Blessing is amazing not only because of the heal, but also because of the insane bonus armor at later levels. A well-timed Astral Blessing can turn even the squishiest champions to a fairly beefy tank for 5 seconds. [highlight]Note:[/highlight] Casting Astral Blessing early in the teamfight on a tank will allow the tank to survive much longer from AD damage. This is much more ideal than saving the heal for anyone else. [title][img=skills/soraka/e.png] E: Infuse[/title] [number]If cast on an allied champion, restores 25/50/75/100/125 mana to the target, and an equal amount to self. Does not double on self cast. If cast on an enemy champion, silences them for 1.5/1.75/2/2.25/2.5 seconds and deals 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 (+75% of ability power) magic damage. Cooldown 10 seconds Range 725[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] The fastest casting ranged disable in the game. Quick reflexes WILL render channeling abilities such as Galio's and Katarina's ultimates to be useless. Note: If attempting to give yourself mana, always try to cast on a friendly target to not completely the mana gain. [title][img=skills/soraka/r.png] R: Wish[/title] [number]Instantly restores 200 / 320 / 440 (+70% of ability power) health to all allied champions. Cooldown 120 / 90 / 60 seconds Cost 100/175/250 mana[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Smart map awareness or voice chat program will allow for maximizing the effectiveness of this ultimate in the laning phase.

Always max [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png] first and as soon as possible. Get a few levels into [imgsmall=skills/soraka/e.png] early for the laning phase, but once teamfights start to break it, work towards maxing [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png]. Using [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] in a teamfight is a medium risk-medium reward type deal. Sometimes, it is not possible to be in range as the opponent may have multiple AoEs or assassins that will demolish poor squishy Soraka.

The aura is great as it makes your heal give more effective HP since they have extra resistances. Aegis synergies extremely well with Soraka's skillset too, making it one of the best items for Soraka. [img=items/frozen-heart.png]: Another great aura item and also gives Soraka extra mana and armor. [img=items/rabadons-deathcap.png]: When CDR is capped, AP is the second best option for Soraka. Nothing gives more AP/gold than Deathcap! [img=items/zekes-herald.png]: Another strong aura item, with the reduced cost from its previous Stark's and stats that actually benefit Soraka (HP and CDR), Zeke's is really good if your team has multiple autoattackers. Vamp Scepter and Dagger is rather useless while building Zeke's, unfortunately. [img=items/locket-of-the-iron-solari.png]: Locket is another amazing aura shield, but Aegis is much more effective for Soraka. [img=items/abyssal-scepter.png]: AP scales really well on Soraka and if your team has a lot of magic damage, getting an Abyssal Scepter and then spamming your [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] will shred the enemies' MR. [img=items/will-of-the-ancients.png]: Soraka with WotA does some decent damage with [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] and the aura benefits the AP carries on your team immensely.

It is nearly impossible to be aggressive early on as Soraka as she is very weak in her early levels. Her [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png] does not give much armor nor heal much until rank 3 or when Soraka is level 5. Pre-level 3 is when a Soraka lane is most vulnerable and has the hardest time in the lane, an aggressive opponent will attempt to fight in this stage as this is best chance they have at earning kills. Stay back and try not to take too much harass at this early stage of the laning phase.

Soraka is very weak for Dragon fights, as she is much more sustain than burst healing/damage. It is ideal to force the bottom lane to recall and then go for Dragon when bot lane is at base. A straight teamfight at Dragon should be avoided.

Late game, a team with a Soraka should attempt to poke early on to gain the upper-hand and to play on Soraka's strength of high sustain.

Having a tank is ideal for Soraka, as the tank will be the primary target for the armor buff from [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png]. Afterwards, you will want to wait for the last possible moment to heal to maximize the effect and healing from [imgsmall=skills/soraka/r.png]. It is also necessary to not take much damage as Soraka, so as to not force a [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png] on yourself.

[img=skills/soraka/e.png] It is ideal to silence as early as possible in a fight and especially on champions that have escapes or AoE CCs. For example, it is really awesome to silence an Amumu that just Bandaged Toss'd in and before he uses his ultimate, while it is pointless to silence after his ultimate is down. On the other hand, silencing Ryze or Anivia at any moment in a teamfight will cripple their damage for several seconds and interrupt their combos. Knowing who and when to silence is really important to maximizing effectiveness in a teamfight and that takes extensive knowledge of the game and examination of the situation at hand.

Soraka is one of the easiest champions to pick up, but like any support, has opportunities to shine. It is definitely possible to distinguish a decent Soraka from an amazing one and the latter should be every support's goal.
