Ezreal Build Guide

Hi, I'm JYarbz and I'm a D1 player in NA soloq. Ezreal has always been one of my favorite champions who I've even played top/jungle/mid for fun for most of my league career. So naturally I started trying to master him in his traditional adc role. While there are certainly better ad players than me, I feel I have a pretty good handle on how to play him and can at least create a guide with good information that will help you guys learn him. These are in my opinion, the best synergies for a duo lane with Ezreal. [b]High Synergy[/b] [img=champ/karma.png] Karma is extremely good with Ezreal due to how well she can poke, how safe she is and in general how much pressure she puts on the lane. She also can turn an ezreal lane into a pushing lane because of how good her waveclear is. This is extremely important as the only way ezreal can quickly clear waves is with ult. The biggest reason this lane is annoying is because the poke coming out from these two champions together is absurd. Karma is one of the strongest supports in the game after [img=items/dorans-shield.png] nerfs in 4.3. Her poke hits harder and sticks easier. If she ever lands a snare to, that sets you up for huge burst. [img=champ/leona.png] This one has been extremely popular in season 4. While this lane isn't very good pre 6, it's incredibly good at 6. The amount of burst you can get off with leona lockdown and passive procs is absolutely massive. If you catch anyone outside of creeps they should pretty much be 100% dead. Ezreal can also more or less fend for himself at early levels if he has to where leona is weak to some supports pre 6 like [img=champ/thresh.png]. [img=champ/janna.png] This is a classic lane, and for good reason. While it's hard to force plays to win lane, it's incredibly difficult to lose lane if playing well. Janna shield is incredibly good on ezreal because of the synergy with mystic shot, and it's incredibly difficult to lock down or gank this lane. Ez/Janna is very reactive. This means that you want the enemy lane to try to engage into. Janna Q interrupts most gap closers and in general can help lock up champions when trying to follow up on engage. Janna is the queen of kiting and Ezreal is the king. [img=champ/nami.png] Nami/Ezreal is a lane I don't see played often and I feel is underrated. This is most likely because Cait is much easier to use in lane with Nami. But after level 6 I like Ezreal/Nami more because of the faster reaction time of Ezreal ult compared to Cait. Nami is a fantastic laning support and really great in mobile poke/kite comps that Ezreal also synergizes very well with. Nami E will apply the slow on your Q's which is a potential 35%+ slow at 1100 range. Nami also works great as a reactive support as well where it's very hard to engage into a Nami team and this makes you incredibly safe. Nami also has high kill potential due to her high amount of CC, though it's hard to land and accuracy can greatly vary depending on the skill of the Nami player. [img=champ/taric.png] Taric is definitely one of the more forgotten supports. And he may be weaker overall, but his synergy with Ezreal specifically is really good. Taric has a point and click stun along with armor shred and good burst between W and ult. His ult also gives ability power and attack damage, both of which ezreal benefits from quite a bit, especially when talking about his ult damage. [b]Good Synergy[/b] Most of the champions in this category work fine, but are either just not that strong of picks in general right now or are strong but don't necessarily synergize with Ezreal as well as the above picks for various reason. I also did not really include unconventional supports as that list could get really long. [img=champ/annie.png][img=champ/soraka.png][img=champ/sona.png][img=champ/zyra.png][img=champ/lulu.png][img=champ/morgana.png][img=champ/lux.png][img=champ/thresh.png] [b]Meh[/b] [img=champ/nunu.png][img=champ/zilean.png]

[b]Level 1[/b] Ezreal is actually pretty strong at level 1, even though a lot of players overlook this. The strongest attributes most players look for at level 1 is strong cc. But mystic shot is a very low cd for a rank 1 skill and Ezreal wins most extended fights because of this as long as you can hit the Q's. So perhaps in the middle of the lane, this isn't necessarily true, but in level 1 fights ezreal is actually better than most other marksman. [b]Level 2[/b] Ezreal's level 2 is also something that is often underestimated. You should push for level 2 if at all possible. Think about other adc with escapes that they usually take at level 2—[img=champ/graves.png][img=champ/lucian.png]etc. Their mobility doesn't also do damage. Ezreal's arcane shift has a base of 75 magic damage at rank 1 which is pretty huge. While there are some exceptions like [img=champ/caitlyn.png], if she uses her escape aggressively she has to shoot it behind her in most cases if she's trying to finish off a kill. If you can go aggressive at level 2, you actually have an insane amount of burst from normal champions where you can probably get off at least 2 Q's and your E if used correctly. [b]Level 6[/b] Ezreal's level 6 in combination with hard cc is very strong, especially if fighting outside of minions. Supports standing in bushes are usually prime targets for [img=champ/ezreal.png][img=champ/annie.png] or [img=champ/ezreal.png][img=champ/leona.png] lanes to 100-0 before they can even move. If you can land your full burst including your E you can basically kill the target in one combo most of the time without even having to auto more than once or twice. [b]Tips for early laning[/b] Ezreal outranges almost everything at Q range. Learn to hang out in his sweet spot and try to poke before going in. Try not to use your E unless you have to. 90 mana at rank 1 is huge early game. Autoing in the middle of minions is auto lose for ezreal in pretty much every matchup because he can't hit Q's. Know what abilities you can abuse with arcane shift and which ones you can't.

[b]Sieging[/b] One of ezreal's biggest strengths in the midgame is sieging. While some marksman like [img=champ/caitlyn.png][img=champ/lucian.png] can siege even a little bit better, no one is quite as safe as ezreal in most situations. His poke is really good with Q's and he can hit the tower fairly safely in many situations because of the safety of arcane shift. You can also use ult for poke or for follow up on other damage and cc. In addition to that, his W can help take towers fairly quickly if any of your other teammates can safely hit the tower. Though this is less likely unless you're really far ahead and can dive easily. [b]Finding picks[/b] Your burst is actually really potent in the midgame, especially when ahead. You should look for opportunities to hide in fog of war. One of the biggest weaknesses of your ult is that you have to stand still to charge it up. But if you can be sneaky and find a good spot, you can charge up your ult as someone is running into you. Following that up with all your burst with [img=items/trinity-force.png] is huge and can oneshot most champions if you can isolate them away from minions.

[b]Dragon/Baron[/b] Late game Ezreal is actually really good at taking these objectives, including towers. Having an AoE 40% attack speed steroid is huge as long as you have even one champion on your team that can make use of it. And your passive combined with [img=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png] does Dragon/Baron really fast as well. [b]Optimizing your build[/b] When the game gets to 6 items you really want to make sure that you're grabbing the right items. This either means you're grabbing the correct defense item or putting on your carry pants and grabbing a 5th dps item. [img=items/quicksilver-sash.png] - Versus specific CC. [img=champ/ahri.png][img=champ/lissandra.png][img=champ/lux.png][img=champ/annie.png]etc. You'll have to judge if this will save you or not or if you would be better off with the overall tankiness of [img=items/banshees-veil.png]. Note that you cannot cleanse knockups. [img=items/guardian-angel.png] - This is great vs dive and assassins. If something like a [img=champ/rengar.png] is going to get on top of you no matter what, then this is probably your item. [img=items/randuins-omen.png] - Versus all AD team. There are a few other options and I talk about them all in-depth in the itemization chapter. The main reason Ezreal's lategame is viable is not because of his damage, but because of his safety. If the other team has a hyperscaling ADC, it's on your team to be able to kill the enemy ad while you peel for yourself. This is why [img=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png][img=items/trinity-force.png] is so popular at a high level of play. With these items you can kite pretty much anything. You pick ezreal so you can more or less leave him alone and he lives. Remember that more often than not, prioritizing safety over maximum dps output is preferred unless you can die to take out a really important target that's somehow more important than you. This really shouldn't happen though.

In teamfights you want to optimally dish out the highest amount of damage possible while remaining safe. This will take practice and experience, but here are a few general rules. In general, you want to dish out safe damage over the highest amount of damage. This means, of course you can hit squishies harder, but you probably can't run past the bruiser in your face to get to them. Keep dealing damage and keep being alive. There are certain things in teamfights that are really hard to avoid and deal with even for ezreal, especially targeted abilities that follow you like [img=champ/zed.png][img=champ/vi.png]etc. Try not to panic when these champions are tunneling you. You want to try to remember two things. First play safe, these champions should really have to try and use a lot, even flashes just to be able to reach you in the first place. This means they have less tools to continue to chase you afterward and also have less tools for fights while those cd's are down. Secondly, when these champions do reach you, don't arcane shift while those targeted abilities are following you. You want to make sure your arcane shift creates distance between you and the dive. Another tip that is an extension of the previous paragraph is that you should be aware of is it's just not always safe to auto. Some champions you just need to be safe around and only poke with Q's, even when they're in the front line. They will either continue to hold their cd's meaning they're less effective, or eventually use them somewhere else meaning it's now safe for you to auto and play farther up. Examples could be [img=champ/ryze.png][img=champ/xinzhao.png][img=champ/pantheon.png][img=champ/kennen.png][img=champ/vi.png][img=champ/talon.png]. This is all situational but be smart. Ezreal's Q is 1100 range for a reason. At some point you may also need the correct itemization do deal with certain champions.
