Blitzcrank has been growing in popularity over several weeks and I have been asked multiple times to create a guide for him. I think his recent popularity is due to the active nature of playing Blitzcrank. While playing Blitzcrank you are physically controlling the enemy team rather than passively enhancing your teammates ability to fight. This active play style is much more rewarding, satisfying, and apparent than traditional supporting which makes playing Blitzcrank enjoyable. In general, he has a hook (one of the most powerful abilities in the game), a low cooldown knockup, and an AoE silence to pick off kills or disrupt the enemy team in team fights. Updated [07/15/12] with Runes/Masteries/Starting Items Note: I read a majority of the comments in this guide and I would like to note that this guide is very simple (I don't break down what the skills do because you can read the tool-tips on your own but maybe I should take some time later since each skill has a trick to it). This is not so much for a beginning player or a beginning support player but more for people who would like to understand the support role outside of the standard Janna/Taric/Soraka/Sona picks. This guide is intended to give you a solid foundation to use as you develop your own Blitzcrank style.

[title]Explanation:[/title] I like having a mixture of movement speed and tankiness when runing for Blitzcrank. In my last version of this guide, I opted to use armor penetration marks instead of using flat armor marks. I changed my mind a few weeks ago though because the most important aspect of Blitzcrank is using his utility pull and then trying to Power Fist to peel in team fights. By using flat armor marks you are able to soak more damage, attempt more pulls, and use more Power Fist. It might be nice to use armor penetration marks in lane if you are betting on your ability to get kills in lane, but it is always safer to use flat armor marks to take more damage.

[title]Explanation:[/title] I almost never differentiate from this skill order. I prioritize Rocket Grab because it is my main form of early DPS. When you play the bottom lane, most players do not rune for magic resist so the pull deals quite a bit of damage. The other reason why I prioritize Rocket Grab over Power Fist is because Rocket Grab gets stronger when you level it and Power Fist only gets a reduced cooldown. Normally if you miss the Rocket Grab you want to disengage and not fight. If you do land the hook, the fight will usually not last long enough for you to land more than two Power Fists. The next skill that I max after Rocket Grab is Overdrive. Overdrive helps me close the gap between myself and the enemy team so that I can have favorable grab opportunities. These opportunities force the enemy team to make decisions and sometimes they get afraid and will burn a summoner or two. The fear of a gap closing Blitzcrank may also cause enemy AD players to be too afraid to last hit. Turning on Power Fist for no reason may also cause them to be afraid. If they don't get afraid you should probably throw a random Rocket Grab to scare them off.

[title]Starting Items:[/title] [item=boots-of-speed][item=sight-ward][item=health-potion]x2 [title]Explanation:[/title] As I've said before, the boots + ward + hp pot start x2 is to close the gap and get favorable pulls or zone the enemy AD because of their fear of being pulled. The one ward is just to keep you relatively safe and it is usually placed between dragon and tri-bush. The two hp potions are there incase you take a little damage but for the most part your health regen from the Defense mastery tree should be able to heal you quite a bit as you sit idle in a side bush. [title]Core Items:[/title] [item=ninja-tabi]OR[item=mercurys-treads] + [item=heart-of-gold]AND/OR[item=philosophers-stone] + [item=sight-ward] [title]Explanation:[/title] The first item that I complete is usually my Ninja Tabi boots because I will be around 500 gold by the time I go back to base. I prefer to finish Ninja Tabi boots rather than buy a Ruby Crystal at this point because I like the extra movement speed and because the attack damage reduction passive that Ninja Tabi's have. The option for Merc Treads are there if you are playing against an Ability Power heavy team. After I finish the boots I save a gold per second item but it takes a quite a bit of time because I am not running gold per second runes. In very low kill games, you may be stuck at this part of the item build forever. Don't forget to buy some wards. [title]After Core Items:[/title] Upgrade [item=philosophers-stone] to [item=shurelyas-reverie] or buy [item=aegis-of-the-legion] while keeping [item=philosophers-stone] + [item=sight-ward] [title]Explanation:[/title] When you are fortunate enough to get a few kills, assists, dragons, or towers you should have enough money to complete one aura item. In general, the best choices are Shurelia's for better team gap closing with the activate skill or Aegis for extra team tankiness. Don't forget to buy some wards. [title]Final Items:[/title] [item=ninja-tabi]OR[item=mercurys-treads]OR[item=ionian-boots-of-lucidity] + [item=shurelyas-reverie] + [item=aegis-of-the-legion] + [item=frozen-heart] + [item=trinity-force] + [item=maw-of-malmortius] [title]Explanation:[/title] Good luck getting these items.

Here are simple tips that have helped me become a successful Blitzcrank player. [.]AD champions with burst (like Graves, Corki, Tristana, and MF) have the best chance at getting a kill after hooking an enemy champion in the bottom lane. [.]AD champions that are passive (like Ashe, Kog'Maw, Vayne, and Caitlyn) benefit from when you put yourself in a position to scare the enemy AD from last hitting or from attempting a damage trade. You almost never want to damage trade when you have one of these AD champions on your side. [.]Try not to play against Graves, Taric, Alistar, and Leona as they all want to damage trade with you (since their burst is relatively high and equal to or better than your own). [.]Soraka/Sona players are afraid of Blitzcrank. [.]Janna is decent against Blitzcrank. [.]If you miss a Rocket Grab you should probably not engage and wait for the cooldown. [.]Don't be afraid to miss. Feel free to keep experimenting and you will eventually become a strong Blitzcrank player. [.]Make use of your extra movement speed and run up to champions to Power Fist them. This will allow you to land an easier pull while they are in mid air or just landing (people may also attempt to flash for no reason as you run up to them). [.] Fk it. Baylife.
