This is a guide on how to play [imgsmall=champ/xinzhao.png]. Xin Zhao is a champion with a great early and mid game and this guide will show you a build that capitalizes on this early advantage. Late game, however, his effectiveness is limited due to lack of scaling. Additionally, this guide will go into great detail on a number of items and how cost effective they are, so even if you dont play xin zhao, you will probably still find useful information.

For a college math class last semester, I was required to do a project on optimization. Since I really like lol, I decided to use it as a basis for my project. I later decided I might as well use this information to help the lol community, and perhaps RIOT balance items. Since I play a lot of Xin zhao this guide will be centered around him. I will be glad to add cost analysis of other items, since I have already done all the calculations. Just ask in the comment section.

[imgext=] [highlight]Marks[/highlight] : 9xArmor Pen = 15 armor pen. [highlight]Seals[/highlight] : 9xFlat Armor = 13 armor. [highlight]Glyphs[/highlight]: 9xFLAT Magic Resist = 13.5 mr . [highlight]Quints[/highlight]: 3xArmor Pen = 10 armor pen. [highlight]Total[/highlight] : 25 armor pen, 13 armor, 13.5 mr. [highlight][center]Marks[/center][/highlight] Clear choice here. Only possible alternative is attack speed, which Xin can already gets from [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/w.png]. [highlight][center]Seals[/center][/highlight] FLAT armor seals are the best option here the armor will help greatly in lane harras and early teamfights. Another alternative is mana regen per 5, but Xin is not a mana hungry champ. Just dont spam abilities. [highlight][center]Glyphs[/center][/highlight] There is a LOT OF CONFUSION as to whether FLAT mr or mr per level is better. Lets analyze: [highlight]Flat mr[/highlight] = 1.49x9 = 12.61 mr from level 1 [highlight]Scaling mr(0.15 per level)[/highlight] = 1.35 at level 1 = 12.15 at level 9 = 24.3 at level 18 In comparison, the extra 11mr is rarely going to be a deciding factor during endgame, when everyone has magic penetration, and you have lots of health. However, the Flat mr will help greatly in laning phase vs burst mages ( surviving a level 6 [imgsmall=champ/annie.png]), mages with spammable skill ([imgsmall=champ/kennen.png]shuriken harrass) and the early teamfights. So Flat mr is the better choice. [highlight][center]Quints[/center][/highlight] Armor Penetration is best here. Why? Because your autoattacks will be hitting for true damage early game. Additionally armor penetration is hard to itemize in comparison to say attack speed or damage. Xin is a melee so the only other option you should consider is switching 1 or 2 of the quints for movement speed (especially if your opponent has a [imgsmall=champ/sona.png] or[imgsmall=champ/janna.png]due to their team movement speed bonuses). However Xin has the longest melee range, so always go with armor pen except in the cases mentioned above. Stay away from all other quints.

[title][img=skills/xinzhao/p.png] Passive: Tireless Warrior[/title] [number]Xin Zhao is healed for 30 points for every 3 attacks that he lands. This amount increases by 5 every 2 levels.[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This helps you sustain yourself in lane. Additionally this works on turrets. [title][img=skills/xinzhao/q.png] Q: Three Talon Strike[/title] [number]Xin Zhao prepares to unleash a fearsome combo, causing his next 3 standard attacks to deal his attack damage + 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 to enemy targets, with the final attack knocking his opponent into the air. Cost 30mana Range 375[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A very useful CC. Here are some tips: [.]It refreshes you auto attacks timer so after [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/e.png]auto attack once then use it to increase your burst. [.]If you opponent keeps kiting you during laning phase, try hitting a minion twice with this activated, to charge up the knock up. [.]Has a low mana cost, so can be used to help last hit or push lanes faster. [title][img=skills/xinzhao/w.png] W: Battle Cry[/title] [number]Passive: Increases Xin Zhao's attack speed by 20/25/30/35/40%. Active: Xin Zhao unleashes a battle cry, increasing his attack speed by double the passive amount for 5 seconds, and causing his standard attacks to reduce all other ability cooldowns by 1 second. Cooldown 24/22/20/18/16 seconds Cost 35 mana [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A great attack speed steroid. Tips: [.]Use it right after [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/q.png] and [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/e.png]to speed up their cooldowns during a fight. [.]Use it out of battle to speed up the cooldown of your [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/r.png]. [title][img=skills/xinzhao/e.png] E: Audacious Charge[/title] [number]Audacious Charge Xin Zhao charges an enemy unit, dealing 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+40% of ability power) damage to all nearby enemies and slowing them by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 1.7 seconds. Cost 70 mana Range 650 Cooldown 16/15/14/13/12[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A great gap closer that should be used right after the tank initiates. Tips: [.]It does more damage than[imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/q.png]and is instant, so should be maxed first. [.]Is an AOE and slow, so can be used on a minion next to an enemy if the champion is just out of range. Try to use it on the squishy or as many people when initiating a fight. [.]Has a relatively high cost of mana, so do not spam. Make the most of it when you use it. [.]In some situations, it is best to save this. Example: if you are doing a gank and the enemy uses[imgsmall=summoners/flash.png] you can catch them with this ability. [.]Sometimes it is better to walk up to a champion and save this to chase, rather than using it right at the start of a fight. [title][img=skills/xinzhao/r.png] R: Crescent Sweep[/title] [number]Xin Zhao unleashes a fierce spear sweep on targets around him, dealing 125 / 225 / 325 + 20% of their current health in physical damage. His magic resistance and armor are increased by 25 (+7/10/13 Armor and Magic Resist for each champion hit) for the next 6 seconds. Cooldown 75 seconds Cost 100 mana Range 350 [/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] A great AOE spell that does % health damage. Tips: [.]Use it in a team fight first becuase the % health damage works of CURRENT health. [.]Try to hit as many people as possible. This will give you a nice armor and magic resist buff.

Level this last so you max it when you are finishing of your damage items.

In this part I intend to introduce you to the various stats that can be itemized. I will then categorize them into stats that are relevant to Xin Zhao. Finally we will analyze (where possible) the cost of obtaining that particular stat in game. I considered leaving this section out, but though it best to leave it here incase anybody wanted to check my methodology. In this part I intend to go into depth on a rather large list of items and analyze how cost effective the item may be. Even if you dont play xin, this part of the guide should help you with items for other/similar champions. When deciding how good an item is, there are [highlight]FOUR CONSTRAINTS[/highlight]: [title][highlight]1. How cost effective is that item:[/highlight][/title] - This mean how much gold you will save/spend. Calculated by: TOTAL COST - TOTAL VALUE OF STATS [highlight]Example 1[/highlight]: an [imgsmall=items/infinity-edge.png]cost a total of 3830 gold, and it offers 80 AD (worth 80x38), 25% crit chance (worth 25x47.3) Therefore we can calculate how cost effective it is... (3830) - (3040 + 1182.5 ) = -392.5 gold cost, so you are actually PAYING -392.5 gold for the item (you gain 392.5 gold). [highlight]Example 2[/highlight]: [imgsmall=items/atmas-impaler.png] cost a total of 2355 gold, and it offers 45 Armor (worth 45x15.9), 18% crit chance (worth 18x47.3) Therefore we can calculate how cost effective it is... (2355) - (715.5 + 851.4) = 790 gold cost, so you are PAYING 790 gold for this item (you pay 790 gold). [highlight]Example 3[/highlight]: [imgsmall=items/banshees-veil.png] cost a total of 2715 gold , and it offers 375 health (worth 375x2.6) and 50 mr (worth 50x15.8) We [highlight]ignore the mana [/highlight]because it as explained above, it is a stat we dont care about on xin. Therefore we can calculate how cost effective it is... 2715 -(975+790) = 950 gold, so you are actually paying 950 gold for the item (you pay 950 gold) The lower the better and negative values mean it is even more cost efficient. I will refer to this stat as 'YOU PAY' ... for simplicity. [title][highlight]2. How much gold the item is worth:[/highlight][/title] - Also considered the 'space constraint' This means how much gold are you investing in that slot. Calculated: TOTAL VALUE OF STATS [highlight]Example 1[/highlight]: an [imgsmall=items/infinity-edge.png]has 80ad worth (80x38) and 25% crit chance worth (25x47.3). Total is 4200 gold worth of stats in 1 slot, so it is very efficient. [highlight]Example 2[/highlight]: [imgsmall=items/atmas-impaler.png] gives you 1566 worth of gold in its slot. So far less efficient than an infinity edge. Higher number is better. Higher number means you are concentrating more gold in that one slot which is good for space efficiency. I will refer to this stat as 'IT OCCUPIES'... for simplicity. [title][highlight]3. Additional effects: [/highlight][/title] Such as on-hit effects, auras, unique passives and actives. These will be noted, so that you may better decide if the gold is worth it. [highlight]Example 1[/highlight]:[imgsmall=items/frozen-mallet.png]provides a 40% slow on hit. [highlight]Example 2[/highlight]:[imgsmall=items/atmas-impaler.png] 2% of health if converted to bonus AD [title][highlight]4. Item Components:[/highlight][/title] Some items are better in that they build from cheap components. They therefore lower the amount of time that you have gold 'floating'. Im sure we have all been in the position when we bluepill and cant decide whether to wait 20 more seconds for an item or just do without it. Thats what this constraint is about. [highlight]Example 1[/highlight]: [imgsmall=items/hexdrinker.png] builds from [imgsmall=items/long-sword.png]x2 therefore you can start building it as soon as you have the 415 gold. However, [imgsmall=items/infinity-edge.png] has [imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] as one of its components, so if you have to bluepill and only have 1500 gold, you will have to spend that gold on other components, or have it 'floating' when you return to lane. I end by giving [highlight]my opinion[/highlight] on the item, and its usefulness/synergy relative to xin zhao, followed by [highlight]my rating[/highlight] of the item. N.B. Alot of people have given me flak for rating their favorite items poorly etc. I would like to therefore stress the point that it is my opinion and rating and just that, [highlight]my opinion and rating[/highlight]. What you cannot argue over is the mathematics behind it. For example paying 1k gold for some regen, in my opinion is a waste. You may think the health regen is useful, but the fact remains that you are paying 1k gold for it and that fact is indisputable. I try to be objective as possible when rating the items and keep in mind that the ratings are based on the items synergy with XIN ZHAO, not the item in general. [highlight][title]My Rating Guide:[/title][/highlight] '[highlight]S[/highlight]' Class: God Tier. An item with this rating is EXTREMELY gold efficient, offers stats that xin uses, occupies a decent gold amount in its slot, and has an additional passive that benefits xin. '[highlight]A[/highlight]' Class: Legendary Tier. Gold efficient, offers stats that xin uses occupies a decent gold amount in its slot. Passive is helpful to xin. '[highlight]B[/highlight]' Class: Good Tier. Missing something from Class A '[highlight]C[/highlight]' Class: Basic Tier. Missing multiple things from Class A '[highlight]F[/highlight]' Class: Awful tier. Inefficient gold costs, offers stats irrelevant to xin, occupies a small gold in its slot. [title][highlight][center]ANALYSIS OF ITEMS[/center][/highlight][/title] [img=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png] You pay [highlight]-174.2[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]2099.2 [/highlight] gold Additionally:gives aura to team mates My opinion: A solid item that has everything xin needs. Still cost effective even without its aura. Occupies a decent amount of gold in its slot. Passive benefits whole team. Builds from small components. Also note that this is one of the few items that offer the combination of health and magic resist. My Rating:[highlight]A [/highlight] [img=items/atmas-impaler.png] You pay [highlight]788.1[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight] 1566.9[/highlight] gold Additionally: 2% of additional health converted to attack damage. My Opinion: A situational item. Breaks even with gold cost at 1040 Health. Xin at level 18 has a base health of 2011. So at level 18 this item will provide additional worth of 1525 gold. Effectiveness increases with health items purchased and obviously the higher level you are when you purchase it the more effective it is. My Rating:[highlight]A[/highlight] [img=items/banshees-veil.png] You pay [highlight]950[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]1765 [/highlight] gold Additionally: Will provide mana which is not taken into account, as well as a passive that blocks negative spells every 45 sec. My Opinion: Stats dont lie. 950 wasted gold for passive and mana is extremely expensive. Additionally, passive can easily be blown away by [imgsmall=champ/ashe.png] volley spam or [imgsmall=champ/karthus.png]lay waste, and if you lose the passive during 'poke' phase, then tough luck, you just wasted 950 gold on some mana. Occupies a fairly low amount of gold in its slot. IMHO not a good item, I know its popular, but the maths doesnt lie. My Rating: [highlight]C[/highlight] [img=items/cloak-and-dagger.png] You pay [highlight]-30.[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]1480 [/highlight] gold Additionally: Provides 25 Tenacity My Opinion: Gain 30 gold and 25 tenacity. Only downside is that it occupies a very low amount of gold in its slot. My Rating: [highlight]B[/highlight] [img=items/dorans-blade.png] You pay [highlight]-277.5[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight] 752[/highlight] gold Additionally: Nothing My Opinion: An ok item early game and mid game. Obviously, no passive, and low gold occupation cost bring its rating down. My Opinion: Awful item. Regen is wasted once mid game comes around. My Rating: [highlight]F[/highlight] [img=items/executioners-calling.png] You pay [highlight]-34.5[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight] 1384.5[/highlight] gold Additionally: On hit, you cause 4 damage per second for 8 seconds. Active that reduces enemy healing and regen. My Opinion: Poor item. Gold cost is fine, but occupies a very low amount in its slot. My Rating: [highlight]C[/highlight] [img=items/force-of-nature.png] You pay [highlight]1409.2[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]1200.8 [/highlight] gold Additionally: Provides Health regen and 8% movement speed My Opinion: Poor item. Lets analyze: over 10 seconds(team fight duration), at 2000hp, the regen and passive will provide a total of 150 health. Wasting almost 1.5k gold for regen and movement speed is not worth it. The 1.5k gold spent on regen could have gone to buying a [imgsmall=items/giants-belt.png] and you would be better off in teamfights with it. My Rating: [highlight]F[/highlight] [img=items/frozen-heart.png] You pay [highlight]1200.9[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]1574.1 [/highlight] gold Additionally: Gives mana, and 20% cooldown reduction and attack speed debuff to nearby enemies. My Opinion: Poor item. To much wasted gold on mana which xin doesn't need. My Rating: [highlight]F[/highlight] [img=items/frozen-mallet.png] You pay [highlight]670[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]2580 [/highlight] gold Additionally: Provides 40% movement slow on hit. My Opinion: The 670 gold paid to perma slow people is worth it. Occupies a high gold cost in slot as well. My Rating: [highlight]A[/highlight] [img=items/guardian-angel.png] You pay [highlight]918.4[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]1681 [/highlight] gold Additionally:Revives you once every 5 minutes. My Opinion: An ok item. You are basically paying 920 gold for the passive. The passive can be game changing, or you can get aced and revive right in the middle of 5 champions and get killed immediately again. Fairly low gold occupy cost. My Rating: [highlight]C[/highlight] [img=items/hexdrinker.png] You pay [highlight]-4[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight] 1804[/highlight] gold Additionally:: If you would take magic damage which would leave you at less than 30% of your maximum health, you first gain a shield which absorbs 300 magic damage for 4 seconds. 60 second cooldown. My Opinion: Solid item. Basically a free magic shield. No stats wasted. Built from cheap items. My Rating: [highlight]A[/highlight] [img=items/infinity-edge.png] You pay [highlight]-392.5 [/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]4222 [/highlight] gold Additionally: Crits hit 50% extra damage My Opinion: Is cost efficient, occupies a great amount of gold in slot, passive is useful to xin. Only downside is that it is built from expensive items (have 1650 gold floating for BF sword. Needs some nerfs IMHO. However not gold efficient, and occupies a low gold amount in slot. Stacks up to 20 times My Opinion:Awful item. Breaks even at 10 stacks. My Rating: [highlight]F[/highlight] [img=items/madreds-bloodrazor.png] You pay [highlight]1194.5[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight] 2605[/highlight] gold Additionally: On hit, deals magic damage equal to 4% of the target's maximum health. My Opinion: As xin you will have no magic pen so it is more approximately like 2% of targets health. Paying 1.2 k gold to do about 2% is not worth it. [highlight]Situational[/highlight] item at the best (if opponent stacking health or armor). My Rating: [highlight]B[/highlight] [img=items/malady.png] You pay [highlight]490[/highlight] gold It occupies [highlight]1335 [/highlight] gold Additionally:Provides some AP. Your physical attacks shred your target doing 20 magic damage and reducing their magic resistance by 6 for 8 seconds. Magic resistance reduction stacks up to 4 times. My Opinion: Awful item. The math doesnt lie. 805 gold for 35 tenacity (35% less CC duration) is a steep price. So only if you can get chain CCed i.e vs a [imgsmall=champ/amumu.png] ult into [imgsmall=champ/sona.png] ult into [imgsmall=champ/ashe.png] ult and slow.

I can bore you all with more maths : ). But I'll just summarize. I will include calculations if asked. Basically its like this... 1 Armor will increase your EFFECTIVE health by 1% No matter what. (ignoring enemy penetration) So if I have 100 armor and 2000 health, I basically have 4000 physical health. if I have 200 armor and 1000 health, I basically have 3000 physical health. Now I can go into details and show you graphs etc, but I promised to summarize... Basically you want [highlight]health early game[/highlight] because 1 armor will add 1% effective health, but you wont have that much health to begin with, so adding flat health is best. Mid and late game however [highlight]you want Resistances[/highlight], as your natural health pool grows, adding 1 armor will increase your effective health by a larger amount than adding the gold equivalent in flat health. [highlight]Forget[/highlight] what people told you about diminishing returns etc. The bottom line is 1 armor means 1% more effective health. HOWEVER...Flat health protects you against [highlight]physical AND magical damage,[/highlight] but resistances protect you against only one type. This is important. Early game you also wont know if the enemy AP or AD is the largest threat. So basically you want 1 or 2 health items then pump the rest of the gold into the appropriate resistances. [highlight]Summary[/highlight]: try to get above 1.5 k health asap (early game), then pump gold into resistances.

I have done the calculations: Prioritize in this order: 1.Attack damage (it is barely better than attack speed...its really CLOSE) 2.Attack speed 3.Critical Strike Getting gold in Attack damage will increase your dps more over 5 seconds than getting the equivalent(in gold cost) of Attack speed. Finally critical strike comes last. Factors that need to be considered. 1.Xin Zhao passive scales of attack speed. 2. Xin zhao cool downs scale of attack speed. 3. On hit effects eg. [imgsmall=items/wits-end.png][imgsmall=items/sword-of-the-divine.png] scale of attack speed 4. Xin zhao has no abilities that scale of AD. 5. Xin zhao (unlike yi) has no attack damage boost (so crit cant scale) Since Attack damage and attack speed, were so close, but attack speed offers xin more benefits, its better to priorotize [highlight]attack speed, then attack damage then critical strike.[/highlight]

Lets analyze briefly: 1. Level 18 xin zhao with 18% lifesteal ([imgsmall=items/wriggles-lantern.png]) will steal a grand total 226 health of over 10 seconds. (ignoring enemy armor. With enemy armor this becomes even less!) 2. Level 18 xin zhao with 18% lifesteal and 40% attack speed[imgsmall=items/recurve-bow.png] and 45 bonus AD[imgsmall=items/bf-sword.png] will steal a total of 400 life. (ignoring enemy armor. With enemy armor this becomes even less!) Summary Lifesteal not worth its cost early game, you do too little damage, it gets a lot better when you have damage items and attack speed. (Late game)

Because if purchased for the slow, [imgsmall=items/randuins-omen.png] is superior, if purchased for the health, resistances would be better. [imgsmall=items/starks-fervor.png] can be eliminated because it is has so many conditions and is inferior to [imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] and [imgsmall=items/wriggles-lantern.png] [imgsmall=items/last-whisper.png] is only effective if your opponent is stacking alot of armor, otherwise [imgsmall=items/the-black-cleaver.png] is better. Unfortunately for you, this game is very snowbally(is that even a word?) and if your opponent is good, you will certainly lose, unless your team bails you out, or your opponent makes mistakes. Step 1. [highlight]Realize that you are behind[/highlight]... you have effectively 'lost' your lane if a) you are more than 25 cs behind b) you have died to your opponent more than twice, either from ganks or careless play c) you are 2 or more levels behind you opponent from zoning or being forced to bluepill. Step 2. [highlight]Let your team know[/highlight]... nothing is wrong with asking for help, screw your ego/pride and call for a gank!, the earlier the better. A simple.. "need gank top, im struggling" will suffice. At best, you get a gank from jungle/middle and you kill your opponent, and catch up, at worst you force them to blow summoners and bluepill thereby taking some pressure of your lane (if their summoners are down they shouldn't be able to play aggressively) At very worst, you and your jungler die giving your opponenet a double kill, in which case your totally screwed! Alternatively you can ask for lane switch. Step 3. [highlight]Learn to turtle[/highlight]. This doesnt mean buy [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png] This means [highlight]stay under[/highlight] turret. The lane will eventually push and you will just have to do your best to cs at tower. Step 4. [highlight]Adapt, adapt, adapt.[/highlight] getting crushed by [imgsmall=champ/annie.png]? grab 2X[imgsmall=items/null-magic-mantle.png] one for [imgsmall=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png] and one for [imgsmall=items/hexdrinker.png] later on. Getting destroyed by [imgsmall=champ/renekton.png]? rush your [imgsmall=items/wardens-mail.png] and [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] Step 5. [highlight]Avoid equal fights[/highlight]...1 v 1? no. 2 v 2? no. 3 v 3? no. You get the point. Unless you have some clear advantage i.e. numbers, fighting at tower, heck even creep aggro at early levels. Dont fight. Step 6. As the saying goes...[highlight]"When you are ahead, get more ahead"[/highlight] That is to is not good enough that you maintain your advantage, you must increase your advantage to ensure your opponent never catches up. Step 1. [highlight]Play SMART aggressively[/highlight] This means learn to zone your opponent. You see your opponent inching forward to last hit one minion? PUNISH HIM FOR IT! As xin you can really put the hurt on people taking 60% or more of their health. Soon you will have them hunkering down behind their turret scared to move even a tiny bit from the safety of the tower. Then you have them right where you want them. Step 2. [highlight]Ward up[/highlight] The only way they can come back from the above scenario is by ganks, so you ward the possible gank routes. Dont worry about the cost of consistently warding it will pay for itself if you can avoid a death from gank. Step 3. [highlight]Invade![/highlight]Have the enemy red and blue buff warded, and steal them when they are up. Step 4. [highlight]Group objectives[/highlight] dragon and later baron can really cement your advantage. Step 5. [highlight]Keep in mind towers not kills win games[/highlight]. Dont get over cocky and dive an opponent who is bluepilling. You will just be falling for the bait. Rather wait for them to bluepill then push your lane to get some damage on the tower.

Xin Zhao is very versatile champion. He can lane top or mid solo, or duo bottom lane with no problems. Play defensively until level 2. Then play aggressive, very few champs can trade blows with xin at early levels. Start of with [img=items/boots-of-speed.png] and [img=items/health-potion3.png] [highlight][center]Standard Lane Harass Combo (from level 2)[/center][/highlight] [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/e.png] ->auto attackx1 -> [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/q.png] -> auto attack x3 -> retreat. Keep in mind that this combo does roughly : 50+50+(15x3)+(50*3) ~[highlight]300 damage[/highlight] from level 2 and going up. This will be useful when judging if you can harass effectively or even dive an opponent. Dont be afraid to take a beating, thats what our defensive masteries and runes are for. Play aggresively. One strategy I found effective in securing kills is to use your [imgsmall=summoners/exhaust.png] early, and make your opponent burn their escape summoner. Immediately call in for a gank afterwards for an easy kill. Aim to farm up at least 1500 gold This will get you [img=items/heart-of-gold.png],[img=items/ruby-crystal.png] a [img=items/sight-ward.png] and some [img=items/health-potion.png].

Keep up with the standard lane harass. By now you should hopefully be able to zone your opponent. If your lane is pushed you can: [number]1.[/number] Look for an easy gank. (Coordinate with your jungler if possible) [number]2.[/number] Attempt dragon with the help of your team and jungler. Try to avoid using [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/w.png] as it has a rather long cooldown, and [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/e.png] as you want to leave this ready incase and enemy shows up.

By now you should be grouping up. Dont do something silly and get picked! Initiate right after tank and try to use [imgsmall=skills/xinzhao/r.png] and [imgsmall=items/randuins-omen.png] to hit as many enemies as possible. Exhaust the dps carry or the ap carry before they cast all their damaging spells. Your primary goal is to kill the enemy dps OR mage depending on who is most threatening and their proximity. Your secondary goal is to disrupt the enemy team positioning and zone as many player as possible. This is done by using the knock up, and slow from [imgsmall=items/randuins-omen.png] combined with [imgsmall=summoners/ghost.png] and [imgsmall=summoners/exhaust.png] to make sure you STICK to a target. DPS carrier will always run if you charge them and focus them. Supports will generally tend to stick with DPS carries to protect them, so you can effectively 'zone' a[imgsmall=champ/ashe.png] and [imgsmall=champ/janna.png], leaving your team with an advantageous 4 v 3. As a brusier your risk of dieing is high, but if you die and your team wins the fight, it will all be worth it. I promise ;). Just make sure to coordinate with your team. Again you DO NOT initiate fights. Let the tank do that. Your job is to rush in after the tank and absorb any remaining CC and cause the opponent to put their major spells on cooldown.

You've listed all the strong magic resist items to be class C or below (FoN and Veil). What should Xin Zhao do against a caster heavy team? Build glass cannon and hope no one drops a Tibber's stun on you? Assuming your tank / support has already purchased an Aegis, what would you recommend to fill that? I disagree with your item build and order. Xin is a very bursty champion, which means you'd want to drop most of your skills within the first 3 seconds and psychologically scare away the enemy. Your build order suggests that you should rush attack speed. You argue that Wit's End is a cost efficient item and that Xin Zhao's passive healing, Battle Cry's cooldown effect, and on hit effects scale off Cooldown. These 3 points are just petty excuses to use Wit's End. You essentially do little damage (not taking Wit's end into consideration) and propose an elongated Auto attack fight (which doesn't take Crowd Controls into account). Summary: Purely having attack speed without damage is impractical./ you're not taking Crowd Controls into consideration.Deal high amounts of burst and run out, rather than prolonging a fight with your fast, on-hit effects. I find it terribly ironic that you prioritise Attack Speed shoes over Mercury Treads, seeing as you need to be in melee range to do any actual damage. If you get stunned, you're useless (which brings me back to the point of doing high burst damage) and slow, you're also useless, seeing as you'll be kited for days (not being in melee range to do damage). Characters like Master Yi / Tryndamere are easily shut down by Stuns. Although I'm not sure how Wit's End + Attack speed would fair in terms of Damage Per Second (whether or not it'd be much better than building Raw damage instead), however, you need to draw a fine line between Cost efficiency and Practicality. You should also offer alternative builds to counter certain teams. Don't neglect Magic Resist items such as Banshee's Veil just because they're not 'Cost Effective' There shouldn't be one static build for every game. [highlight]My Response[/highlight]: Whew lots of points raised. I included a chapter on what to do vs imbalanced teams. I listed reasons to priorotize attack speed over attack damage as xin. You have 0 abilities that scale with AD etc. You (and several others) are right on the fact that I shouldnt have listed berseker greaves as first choice, However I see far to many players get merc treads blindly. IF and only IF AOE CC is a major problem do i advise merc treads. That is just my opinion. Take it or leave it. [highlight]exuion[/highlight]: I contest the rank of the following items Banshee is situationally A or S, because it negates some of the nastiest initiate disables (mumu, ashe, tibber, etc). That's why it's been nerfed both in base stat and refresh time. Bloodthirst on xin is a bit iffy, he's meant to go in and initiate and die. keeping 40 charges is neigh impossible and is denying the carry late game farm. Items that have synergies: warmog, force of nature, atmas impaler are incredibly strong when combined. Also, health regen is not a negligible stat esp. when it reaches over 100/5. A lot of fights are kite wars (with this ashe/corki meta), and being able to start the fight at full hp means quite a bit for xin. Divine is used to hunt jaxes, nids, udyrs and sivirs. they shouldn't be discounted. No tenacity will hurt xin, all the aoe disables pretty much will kill xin off the bat with only +600 hp in the entire build. [highlight]My Response[/highlight]:I would honestly rather get merc treads vs aoe initiate disables rather than a banshees. Blood thirster is still efficient at 0 charges. It only goes up from there. If you are dieing alot then wriggles is a good alternative For SoTD it occupies less gold in its slot than black cleaver. Yes it is still useful vs dodge champions, but really there is only one dodge item in this game. I had rated it A... cant put it higher than that really. Tenacity again. If AOE CC is a problem yes get merc treads. If you are getting merc treads for rammus taunt or taric stun only, I would rather tank the full duration of that rather than my carry. Calculate how much damage he can do over 5 or 10 seconds (using no abilities). Then pretend you have 500 gold to spend. Convert that amount of gold into attack speed, attack damage and crit chance. I love the mathmatical approach but your cost efficient path does not take into account the great passives on items. You cant put a value on those and it greatly skewes your system. I tried wits end and was not a fan of it on xin. And madreds is insanley valuable when dealing with tanky dps or pure tanks so why isnt it even in you "items for xin" section? attack speed, damage, armor, and more magic damage from the passive. sounds great since thats all things you have in your recommended items for xin. Now that it only one example and there are plenty of others. I just don't feel that this approach is viable since passives have no value in your system and for alot of items they will make or break that item.
