Hello, www.Twitch.tv/jamx_lol The Nidalee rework shows some potential going into season 5. Rushing Morello makes her an extremely strong mid game champion with great roam potential. She still has the same great heal that helps her support ADCs and the spear->pounce mechanic is pretty fun. My major complaint is still the hit box on Nidalee's spear, but after a few 100 games I've seemed to gotten use to it. The smaller hit box also has given me some extra opportunity by threading the needle. I updated the build section primarily to help AP nidalee players still tryin to grind it out. Pros: where to start... -High first blood potential -Great roam potential -High mobility -Great execute -Amazing new passive -Stronger split pushing -Excellent at forcing and securing objectives Cons: -Spear hit box width decreased -SIGNIFICANTLY lower spear damage -Easy to pounce in...difficult to pounce out -Complicated team fighting Nidalee lost a lot of poke, but her new cat form mechanics + buffs give her more versatility. The new Nidalee requires you to play aggressive in lane or gank. Building a lead is your key to victory and an easy game. Nidalee is a lane bully and dominates over most champions, so this is an attainable goal.
Nidalee's early game is quite awful. Anything that is able to get in range or poke Nidalee is stronger than Nidalee before level 6. Even after level 6 you won't inherently be stronger than most champions. Nidalee is a crafty champion that requires good positioning. I like to stand very close to my tower for the early parts of the game to prevent the other person from poking too much and because I don't like getting ganked pre 6. Nidalee pre6 is like a cat without 9 lives :( Most games you will not be invading, so get your [W] skill at level 1 and set up traps in places that you think the jungler will walk through. There is no correct place to place traps, get creative go nuts~ Your biggest goal for early game is to farm as much as you can and hit level 6 before having to recall. I don't recommend ganking before level 6 because a failed gank will ensure that you lose the lane. The only time I would recommend fighting before level 6 is a possible invade on the enemy red gank with your jungler. A good spear will usually be first blood on the enemy jungler.
I'm going to say that mid game starts the second you hit level 6. Hopefully you haven't had to opt for an early recall and you are 10 cs or less behind your laning opponent. You should be trying to push your lane out as much as you can and either ganking or farming wraiths between waves. If you have the early Tear of Goddess make sure you spam your abilities at will so that you will have mana for a gank or early dragon contest/fight. Mid game is when Nidalee is by far the strongest, you want to try to force team fights because when spear is maxed it does a ridiculous amount of damage against squishy under leveled jungle/support/adc. Don't worry if your lane opponent still feels much stronger because if you land one spear on their adc it can allow you to force dragon or an easy dive bottom lane.
This is the area I have improved on the most over time. I'm combining Team Fights and late game because you are probably going to be the main source of poke for your team so group up! In the past I lost a lot of games because my attitude toward team fighting. In a team fight, champions like [imgsmall=champ/annie.png] will try to do as much damage as humanly possible in the first 2-3 seconds of a team fight. While the same goes for nidalee it is slightly different. Let me elaborate - Nidalee's full combo, max damage is trap + spear + heal->cat form pounce->ignite->swipe execute. But you don't want to use your full combo to start a team fight. You need to sit in human form as long as possible and use heal on the ADC as many times as you can. Your team fights with nidalee will be less focused on assassinating the ADC and more on keeping your ADC alive while throwing spears at their back line...having fun yet? I rarely am the one that dies first in a team fight because I know that if I am alive, even if there are 3-4 champions alive still I can easily turn it around by chasing people in cat form. Here's a few examples of strong team fighting with Nidalee. (Note: some of the clips are from a smurf) I'll be sure to continue to add more examples of team fighting with nidalee.
You only play Nidalee and got Diamond 1....Is Nidalee over powered? A lot of players consider her over powered, but I think she is fine as is. The strongest counter to Nidalee is a long range gap closer. Team compositions that have champions like Zac, Ashe, Sejuani make it very difficult for Nidalee to step up and throw spears because there is always the potential of getting caught out, even at max range. Too many teams have team comps with three assassins and zero engage and wonder why Nidalee is picking them apart. If you want to beat Nidalee, pick a support with sustain, build magic resist and make sure your team has some type of gap closer. Nidalee is a terror in Solo Q because teams are not picking strong team comps. How does katarina do against zero cc teams? Nidalee is just as effective when the other team lacks sustain and gap closers. The nerf to trap was definitely justified. A 12 second debuff with vision was entirely too long. Even 8 seconds is a very long time to be able to do extra damage to a champion. If you are against Nidalee don't fight her with lowered resistances. Her heal and sustained damage will make it difficult for you to trade. I suggest playing conservatively and farming if you accidentally land on a trap. I've had some time to think about the nerfs to Nidalee. I'm very disappointed that Riot completely removed the distance mechanic from spear. I think they should have tweaked the numbers or reduced the base damage. Completely removing the extra damage for distance to the spear is a huge bummer! Although, the damage of a spear is not reduced if a target is walking toward you. The damage also isn't effected if you pounce toward your target after you spear. This adds damage to your combo because take down scales with HP missing. This is a very minimmal circumstantial buff, but it's good to find the positives in the changed mechanic. I'll still be playing her as often as I can in the mid lane. Her heal provides amazing utility and kit is very good still.
With max CDR + decent amount of AP nidalee can contest baron and dragon by her self. If there aren't any wards try placing a trap where you think one of the champions will be so you have vision of everything for a solid 12 seconds. Poke with spears and try to get someone to chase you to stall baron. Here's an example. and another example of contesting baron (pentakill!) Just don't baron against my nidalee.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzBxuOPTQB4
Nidalee spear: low cd, high damage, huge range...always just try to take stuff :D
I have uploaded a few games with commentary. One of the games is in silver league on my smurf and the other was the last game of my diamond 4 promotion series. I uploaded them for very different reasons - the first one is against an AP yi on my smurf and shows how hard you can carry with Nidalee at a lower rating. The other replay was against an orianna that had an off game, but we started off in a big hole and I helped us climb out. Carry in Elo hell Diamond 4 Promotion game
Play support Nidalee like a God. But don't play support nidalee...unless your a god. I'm human and this was in season 3. In order for support Nidalee to work you will need a lot of Ability power and a very good harass lane or lots of wave clear. Support Nidalee is inherently not as strong as the other champions. Remember Nidalee is a strong champion because of her support, carry, assassin characteristics. Her laning phase is quite terrible.
