[big]Laning phase poke:[/big] 1.) Q > W > W [big]>[/big] [big]>[/big] [.]Standard poke against melee opponents, use it as often as possible. Since you'll be leveling first, make sure you sneak it in whenever you get the chance for some free cheese damage on your enemy, so mostly when you see them coming up to get creeps. Also, try to retreat a bit once you get the speed boost from , just to minimize the chance of them trading back. Keep doing this long enough, and chances are you'll either have pushed them out of lane, or whittled them down enough to all in them with at least once you get . 2.) Q > E > W [big]>[/big] [big]>[/big] [.]Standard poke against ranged opponents. Since you'll be leveling over , it will have a lower cooldown than otherwise, so chug it at your opponent whenever you can (be careful not to push the lane too hard like this however, try to use it when your target is isolated so the dagger won't have anything to bounce to). Also, make sure that you throw directly at the enemy champion, since if will deal much less damage if it bounces to them from a creep. It is also important to note that there are more than one way to use in this combo: you have the option to either use it on a creep that's close to the enemy champion, or just use it directly on them. Using the ability on a creep, so that it puts your enemy in range of your , and then running away is much safer than the alternative, but you're sacrificing a bit of damage. Using it directly on the enemy champion will let you get a bit more damage off, but it greatly increases the chances of them trading back before you can get away, especially since it will put you behind them (also, there are certain champions whom you must NEVER jump on top of, else they'll wreck you (if they know what they're doing), examples being , , or ). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [big]Basic full combo:[/big] Q > E > W > R > Ignite [big]>[/big] [big]>[/big] [big]>[/big] [big]>[/big] [.]Maximizes your damage and minimizes the time you need to cast everything. Of course, use if you happen to have it before casting any ability, and use and then as is still flying through the air. Also, in case you have , autoattack your target after using on them, before casting in order to save the most time. [.]At level 6, without having any items besides and (usually 37 AP, 0 bonus AD), considering you get a full off, you will deal a total of 955 damage to a single target (785 magic and 170 true damage) if you max out first, or a total of 965 damage (795 magic and 170 true damage, so basically the same) if you max out first (in other words, the combo deals more damage when maxing out, but only if you manage to get more than one of them off).

I'll list the champion mentioned in alphabetical order (if you're looking for someone specific, hit Control + F and type their name in). Each champion explanation will have a standard layout; the following: Role: Assassin / Fighter / Mage / Marksman / Support / Tank Usual placement: Bottom Lane / Jungle / Middle Lane / Top Lane Spell kit (Passive / Q / W / E / R): / / / / (for , in example) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Matchup explaination: [.]On friendly team: ... [.]On enemy team: ... I'll explain how every pick will affect you as Katarina in the match, however, I will only take their usual placement on the map and their usual role into consideration while doing so (in example, can do a variety of roles, but he's a jungler and a fighter most often, and I will only explain the benefits and downsides of having him picked for the aforementioned purpose). The difficulty meter is only to be taken into account if the champion you're looking for is on the opposing team. *HOWEVER!* Remember that it's your skill level that will determine most outcomes, not the matchup!

Choose a starting build, move in to cover the buff camp your jungler wants you to cover, and keep the skill point open (don't take any ability at level 1 until laning starts and you know you're safe and don't need Shunpo). If you're matched against someone that's extremely tough you don't want to risk losing your lane against them, feel free to switch with your top laner (if they agree). Wait those two minutes out and walk into your lane. So, now you have two routes to choose from as your skill order: [.]Maxing out Sinister Steel first offers more damage than maxing Bouncing Blade first would, primarily because of it's spammability. However, there is a drawback to this, which is the ability's range (375 units, which is barely double your autoattack range). Because of this, maxing out first is best when laning against a melee opponent. Like such, you'll get much more opportunities for the ability to connect, and you'll be able to make use of it's low cooldown much more than you would against a ranged opponent. You'll also be able to last hit ten times easier, especially when under the tower. [.]Maxing out Bouncing Blade first offers safer poke than maxing Sinister Steel first would, and this is because it's your only proper ranged ability (not counting ). If you max the abilities in this order however, take note that you are throwing away some potential DPS because does about as much damage, but is not nearly as spammable as is. This is why maxing first is recommended only in case you can't afford to get in semi melee range of your opponent, so mainly against ranged opponents. The mark damage and the bounces are also very useful in last hitting. At level 2, against heavy skill shot champions, or against a threatening early game jungler, pick up as your second ability. Otherwise, pick the ability you didn't start with among and , so you can start comboing them together and whittling your opponent down. FARM, FARM AND KEEP FARMING! Katarina's kit makes last hitting really easy compared to some APs. You can also clear waves easily and efficiently, which you can abuse; you can push your lane hard against opponents that can't last hit under their tower well and you'll force them to lose farm (be careful not to take too much poke damage though), or you can freeze the lane and wait for a gank if you know you need to get rid of your opponent early to win the lane. I don't recommend ganking before you hit level 6 and get a point in . However, if you push your lane opponent out and see a great opportunity open up, I guess you might just do so... And, of course, don't be afraid to help out your jungler if a small skirmish happens to break out. Always come to their aid if they need it, you're mobile enough to pretty much do so freely. Once you do get , take any chance you can get to gank. I like focusing my ganks on bottom lane the most, since that's where double kills are at. This early in the game, participating in a single kill on bottom will almost always result in your team getting the other guy down as well, thanks to your Voracity, of course. The least you can get is make them both burn their summoner spells, so it's definitely worth the effort. Around level 9 through 11, the first towers usually fall, and teams start roaming, grouping up, and securing objectives more. This is when I like to think mid game starts.
