Hello, I'm Liquid, and this is my first guide. I'm a Diamond player from EUW (D3-D1) and I've played Ezreal for a very long time. I typically play mid lane and God only knows how many Ezreal games I've played to this date. Back in the day, Ezreal was usually played as a [highlight]mid laner[/highlight]. I've never backed down from playing him that way. Reginald was the player who inspired me and I hope he inspires others to start and continue playing him as an AD caster mid. Ezreal is a very strong mid lane champion and is often underestimated and underappreciated if played in that position. I'm here to prove that wrong, he is a very strong AD caster with one of the best mobility spells in the game, which makes him almost ungankable. His early to mid game pressure is really high, as you can get a kill as low as level 1 on the enemy mid laner while his late game scaling remains as strong as any other standard mid laner, which makes him very versatile. He does have some "counters" mid lane, and it usually involves pushers who can't really kill you anyways as Ezreal is a very safe farmer. Ezreal CAN be played as an AP caster and and its very fun to play him that way, but I think he is a bit on the weak side right now, since his W and R have been nerfed and he was always a bit weak early game and needed a lot of time to scale into the lategame with huge core items. Considering what I've stated we will be focusing on [highlight]AD EZREAL MID[/highlight] this guide. Ezreal is THE ONLY champion in League of Legends who has his entire kit based on skillshots. His passive depends on hitting skillshots, his Q and W abilities are line skillshots, his E is a soft skillshot which damage depends on the distance from enemy champions after use and his Ultimate is a channeled line skillshot. That being said, let's go over some pro's and con's of this champion. Pros: [.]Long range poke spells. [.]AoE damage. [.]Insanely strong early game. [.]Dragon/Baron and buff global stealer. [.]Scales decently well into late game. [.]One of the most mobile champions in the game. [.]Has sustained damage as well as burst damage. [.]Heavy kiter when he has his core items or red buff. [.]Can snowball really heavily. [.]Feels rewarding to play him. Cons: [.]Really hard to master. [.]Squishy early game. [.]His primary damage spell can be blocked by tanks/minions etc. [.]Needs to hit skillshots to be effective, not like other AD carries late game. [.]Countered by pushers or heavy burst champions. [imgext=http://i.imgur.com/Qc1WUFH.png] This set of runes will round up to a very nice combo of offensive and defensive stats. The 15 armor penetration will counteract the +13 standard armor yellows that people use in their rune pages and the extra 12 Attack damage from your runes and masteries will help you better last-hit minions and will increase your overall damage making your Q's and auto's hit for more damage. The armor and MR from the yellows and blues will help you mitigate the damage from trades or all-ins, increasing your survivability. Grabbing 6 flat MR glyphs and 3 MR/lvl glyphs give you a mix of early game and late game MR. You will have + 8 MR early, and another +8 MR lategame. [imgext=http://i.imgur.com/722qxQC.png] You could also start with a [img=items/dorans-blade.png] and go with lifesteal runes. The dorans blade will give you extra HP and damage, while synergizing with your lifesteal Quints because of the passive which grants you +5 hp per hit. Choosing this first item means you won't have any wards or pots, so you have to be careful about ganks and trades in lane.

[title][img=skills/ezreal/p.png] Passive: Rising Spell Force[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] This passive is great if you can keep the stacks up by hitting your skillshots. It does, however, require a higher skill level and experience with the champion for you to use it effectively. Its great if you can stack it early, and it will help you a lot for a level 3 all in since autoattacks will do a high percentage of damage early on because champions have really low HP levels. [title][img=skills/ezreal/q.png] Q: Mystic Shot[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] This pretty much defines ezreal as a champion, its a spammable, long range, line skillshot that resets your attack animation and applies on hit effects. Generally, the most effective way to combo this spell is Autoattack -> Q -> Autoattack, so you take full advantage of the reset. This skill also allows you to check brushes, or simply check the enemy champion's position by spamming it in the fog of war. [title][img=skills/ezreal/w.png] W: Essence Flux[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] For AD ezreal, this skill is nothing more than a mana dump in lane. It does however help your team take objectives faster because of the 4 man attack speed buff (5 man if you consider yourself and your passive), so consider using it every time you are about to take down a turret or a Dragon/Baron. This spell is also a great buff for champions that go well with attack speed, so keep an eye on that. For example, if you have a Diana or a Tryndamere in your team, always aim to hit your W on them to greatly increase their DPS. [title][img=skills/ezreal/e.png] E: Arcane Shift[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] This is ezreal's mobility spell. Its on a decently low cooldown, and maxing it second while spamming and hitting your Q's will make it even lower. This is why Ezreal is a very hard champion to shut down mid lane. You must choose using this spell wisely, as it will give you a great strategic positioning edge for securing a kill or outplaying your opponent, but if you use it offensively, and put yourself forward in lane, you are exposed and can easily be [highlight]GANKED[/highlight] and [highlight]KILLED[/highlight]. So always remember, an Ezreal without his E is at his most vulnerable point. [title][img=skills/ezreal/r.png] R: Trueshot Barrage[/title] [title]Explanation:[/title] Trueshot barrage will help you push your lane when you need it, its great for sniping people across the map or stealing objectives and its a big AoE damage tool in teamfights. However, like most of Ezreal's kit, its hard to hit as its a channeled ability, it needs practice to be used effectively.

This is pretty much the most effective way to level-up AD Ezreal's abilities: [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/r.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/q.png] -> [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/e.png] ->[imgsmall=skills/ezreal/w.png] [.]Lvl-up R every time you can since it's your most damaging spell and it greatly decreases the CD of the ability. [.]Max Q first because its your primary damage spell and it gives you the most damage/level-up from your skills as well as it decreases the cooldown. [.]Max E second because its your main escape spell and you need it as low cooldown as it can get. [.]Lastly, max W because its only a utility spell so it will be effective left at lvl 1. Tts also a pretty low DMG ability for AD Ezreal since it only scales with AP.

Now there are 2 ways you wanna build AD ezreal mid. A very aggresive damage build, or a poke build which relies on your Q spell. The very aggressive damage build will be like this: [img=items/berserkers-greaves.png][img=items/mercurys-treads.png][img=items/ionian-boots-of-lucidity.png][img=items/mercurys-treads.png] or [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] + [img=items/enchantment-furor.png] [.][imgsmall=items/berserkers-greaves.png] if the enemy team doesn't have a lot of CC as it will increase your DPS. [.][imgsmall=items/ionian-boots-of-lucidity.png] for poke Ezreal, as it will increase the usage of your Q. [.][imgsmall=items/mercurys-treads.png] Against someone like [imgsmall=champ/fiddlesticks.png], or any heavy CC team as it will increase your survivability [.][imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png]Against mid laners like [imgsmall=champ/wukong.png] or [imgsmall=champ/khazix.png] as it will protect you from their physical damage. Upgrade your boots with Furor to help you kite enemies or catch up to them better. [img=items/the-brutalizer.png] [imgsmall=items/the-brutalizer.png] Is a great item for mid Ezreal. It gives you AD, CDR and ARpen exponentially increasing your early game damage so you can better ALL-In your opponent and snowball. [img=items/trinity-force.png] Ok so let's talk about why you get [imgsmall=items/trinity-force.png] now. Tri-Force gives you every single stat you need at this time. It gives you mana, hp, AD and the [highlight]KITE[/highlight] potential because of the added movespeed and slow which synergizes with your Q, as well as the added burst on your q's or on your auto's after you use an ability. It's an all around great item for Ezreal and it will be a huge power increase mid game after you finish it. Next, you either get [img=items/the-bloodthirster.png] or [img=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png] You buy [imgsmall=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png] instead of [imgsmall=items/the-bloodthirster.png] when you are against HP stacking champions like [imgsmall=champ/singed.png] or [imgsmall=champ/olaf.png]. If you don't need Botrk, you get Bloodthirster for the lifesteal and AD. [img=items/the-black-cleaver.png] Next up you should upgrade your [imgsmall=items/the-black-cleaver.png]. The reason you get this instead of LW is because you are gonna help your ENTIRE team, especially your AD carry to deal more damage to the enemy team, as BC debuffs armor for everyone. It also increases your HP value so you can become a real AD caster. [img=items/last-whisper.png] or [img=items/infinity-edge.png] You get [imgsmall=items/infinity-edge.png] If the enemy team doesnt stack a lot of armor because it will make your late game scaling a lot better, increasing you autoattack damage. If they stack a lot of armor you get [imgsmall=items/last-whisper.png] for the extra ARpen. [img=items/mercurial-scimitar.png] or any other defensive item, depending on the enemy team. The [imgsmall=items/mercurial-scimitar.png] enables you to get rid of one CC ability, preferably use it when you are affected by a hard CC like a stun or a fear. [img=items/zephyr.png] Ok so when you hit 6 items, you wanna sell your [imgsmall=items/berserkers-greaves.png] or any boots that you have and buy a [imgsmall=items/zephyr.png] instead. What this will do, is it will increase your stats, while still having the movespeed and tenacity that you previously had, so you are a more efficient damage dealer. This build will give you the most amount of damage with your q's and autos combined with extra stats like hp, mana, movespeed, slows, tenacity etc. It will give you the most options to outplay your opponents and will give you a lot of incentive to go aggressive. And for POKE EZREAL: [img=items/ionian-boots-of-lucidity.png] These are the standard boots that you wanna get for this type of build which many people may refer to as "chinese ezreal build". The reason you get these is because you rely a lot on your Q for the majority of your damage and you want to hit max CDR. [img=items/tear-of-the-goddess.png] Get this early if you are not having a hard time in lane, if you are losing grab [imgsmall=items/glacial-shroud.png] and [imgsmall=items/vampiric-scepter.png] if you are against an AD laner and if you are against an AP laner get [imgsmall=items/hexdrinker.png] before tear. Now you can chose your build order between [img=items/spirit-of-the-elder-lizard.png] , [img=items/the-brutalizer.png] and [img=items/frozen-fist.png]. - If you find yourself heavily bursted or poked from AD damage rush [imgsmall=items/frozen-fist.png]. It will keep you safer and it will give you lots of kite potential. - If you want an insane mid game rush [imgsmall=items/the-brutalizer.png] and [imgsmall=items/spirit-of-the-elder-lizard.png]. [imgsmall=items/spirit-of-the-elder-lizard.png] Is a cheap item that gives you great stats for mid game like CDR, raw AD, faster jungle camps (wolves, wraiths) and true damage that applies on your Q. Bruta amps your damage on your Q even further and gives you some nice CDR as well. Then you wanna finish your [img=items/the-black-cleaver.png] and get a [img=items/the-bloodthirster.png] for a raw damage increase on your Q. Now remember, with this build you wanna adopt a different style of play. It's recommended that you force objectives mid game and finish the game as soon as possible, which with this build shouldn't be that hard, it's really strong. After your core items you become a powerhouse mid game, so abuse that.

Ezreal is not able to push the lane fast before level 6, and even after 6 his only AOE wave clear is his ultimate which is on a high cooldown. That means any champion that can push the lane in fast and easy will be very hard to deal with for Ezreal. [img=champ/mordekaiser.png] Is a champion that constantly pushes the lane. His entire kit (except his ultimate ability) is AOE and he can easily outpush you and outfarm you. The fact that he is also hard to harass and kill because of his passive makes him hard to deal with mid lane. HOWEVER there is a small window at level 1-3 where you can kill him if you go really aggressive. The fact that he is melee, and you have a lot of damage early game, means that you should harass hima s soon as level one, keeping him at a low hp value. That is gonna actually give YOU the farm advantage, as you can zone him out. [img=champ/morgana.png] Her W can clear the back line minions in one go once level'd up + she remains sustained with her passive. These tools allow her to over power Ezreal in lane. Yet she can't push you that hard as soon as level 1. That allows you to harass her hard and hopefully keep her in check for the rest of the laning phase because of your HP advantage. [img=champ/heimerdinger.png] Same as the above, he pushes the lane with ease from low levels. Very squishy early though, make sure you E out of his blind though, that can be very annoying. Also, keep in check of how many minions are between you and him. If there are less than 3, it means one of his missiles will hit you. Ezreal is also a very squishy champion, he has the second lowest HP in the game at level one and is considered to be an overall squishy champion. So, any heavy burst champions or assassins in general will posses a high threat to ezreal. Champions like: [img=champ/diana.png] She has a shield which means she can mitigate your poke early and once she hits 6, if she lands one Q on you she can ALL-In you and probably kill you every time. [img=champ/leblanc.png] Le blanc has ridiculous burst at level 6, and, coupled with her high mobility from her W, she is one of the best counters to Ezreal. [img=champ/talon.png]/[img=champ/zed.png] Talon and Zed fullfill the same role, they are high burst assassins with a bit of poke. If they get to touch you, they will probably kill you at 6. Their high mobility and gap closers mean you won't get any closer to them or you will get bursted down. They can also push better than you and freely roam if they like. There is room for outplay though. if you harass them well enough, or dodge their skillshots with E, you can potentially kill them before they do. These are just some examples of champions that counter Ezreal, similar ones will do a great job of beating you as well. These are not impossible match-ups though, so if you play smart and poke early or stay safe and farm, you won't have huge problems on your hands, and you can still scale into the lategame as a second AD carry, which will bring a higher DPS to your team.

[.]Ezreal is a VERY STRONG champion early game. If you hit all of your q's, you can easily win lvl 1 teamfights while still staying at a good range from your opponents. [.]Taking a red pot early, running to the enemy jungle and warding the path that the enemy mid laner takes to get to mid can get you lvl 1 first blood on them, or at least inflict heavy poke, giving you a huge advantage. [.]Also, if you see that the enemy team doesnt have much CC at lvl 1, or they don't have a great 1v1 team, you can run to their buff, ward it, and poke their jungler off. [.]Standard laning with ezreal will mean you hitting and poking your opponent CONSTANTLY. It is very important, as your lvl 1 is one of the strongest in the game. Preparing your lvl 2,3 or 4 ALL-in with poke is a big part of your snowballing. However, if you feel like the enemy laner + jungler have a really good combo to kill you early, you can always farm from range, or ward one side and sit on that side of the river. [.]You want manage your mana, that means you don't use your E unless you are sure it will pay off. Your q has a really low mana cost, so that's not gonna get you oom.

[.]If you already snowballed and you are far ahead, you can consider roaming lanes that have CC. You have a lot of damage and range, so if you combine that it with your jungler's or laner's cc it will always give you a kill, helping your other lanes win as well. [.]Remember, a double buffed Ezreal is one of the scariest champions in the game, so try to have them up as much as you can. [.]If you are behind, you can always sit back and farm from long range, Ezreal is a really good long range farmer, so you won't lose a lot of CS if you got killed early. [.]You can force dragons with Ezreal, especially if you have triforce or at least sheen/bruta. You can have a dragon dance and poke as much as you like untill its safe to get the dragon. If the enemy team initiates, you can damage them from a blind spot, behind a wall or up a ramp. Channel your Ulti in a safe spot as it will get you caught off guard if you dont, its a channeled spell. You have a lot of consistent damage and kite with your q's, and if your jungler gave you red, its pretty much a won teamfight if you know what you're doing. [.]Mid game for Ezreal is all about choices. If you have an advantage, you need to push it to give you even more advantages. Its pretty easy to push towers or get fast objectives if you are ahead, as your poke and your W's on your team help a lot. If you are behind, you can always consider farming it off, and because you have 2 ranged ad's, late game could be yours, depending on the enemy team.

[.]Late game you must concentrate on your positioning the most, you are not very squishy, but if you get caught, you can be chain cc'ed and you will die. That means NEVER use your E's aggressively in teamfights, unless you are cleaning up. You have to remember that an Ezreal without his E, is pretty vulnerable. [.]Also, your damage now probably rivals the ad carries damage, so as long as you stay alive, your team will dish out INSANE amounts of damage since you practically have 2 ranged AD's. [.]Never dive the back line, ever. You build him as an ad caster, but that doesnt mean you should go after squishies. Hit whatever is in front of you while staying in a safe zone. [.]Kiting is your best friend, and if you are poke ezreal, combined with a jayce F.E. , will make you a monster at sieging towers and poking the enemy team down.

In teamfights you want to deal the maximum amount of damage from a safe distance. [.]Opening the teamfight with a perfectly placed [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/r.png] on 5 enemies will give you 5 stacks of your [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/p.png] which will exponentially increase your DPS in the teamfight. Make sure you are safely positioned when you start channeling your ultimate though, since you will be vulnerable for a second. [.]Safely disengaging an enemy diver (like a malphite or a Xin Zhao) means you will have to kite him and use your mobility in your advantage. That means you should spam your [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/q.png]'s and hit them, while using your [imgsmall=skills/ezreal/e.png] to get more distance. Your [imgsmall=items/last-whisper.png]/[imgsmall=items/blade-of-the-ruined-king.png]/[imgsmall=items/the-black-cleaver.png] will help you a lot bringing down the tanks that are probably going to be in your face the whole teamfight while the slow passive from [imgsmall=items/trinity-force.png]/[imgsmall=items/frozen-fist.png] will keep them away and create more distance between you and them. [.]You could also sit up a ramp or in the fog of war and safely poke with your Q's to deal free damage, but it won't be the maximum amount of damage you can dish out. [.]Staying alive in teamfights is probably more important that dishing out MORE damage at much greater risk because if your team dies and the enemy team is low, you can clean up, Ezreal is very good at taking down individual targets while remaining safe.

Mid lane Ezreal is a very strong and versatile champion which can snowball and carry games by his own in my opinion. He has very little counters and you can dominate the enemy team early while still scaling well enough late. The fact that people underestimate his damage and mobility will give you an advantage and they wont even know what hit them. And please stop the hate on the little blonde kid, he's awesome.
