BIG EDIT 2: The guide setup is still really buggy so you are going to see a lot of weird things in the guide that may not makes sense. It's not my fault something is just screwed up with the website. Hopefully the bugs will be fixed soon.

BIG EDIT: Hi guys I was finally able to login to my account again and now I can start editing my guide. Because the guide is so huge it is going to take a while to fix everything up so hold tight while I try to get everything straight. Ever since the mage update there has been a ton of changes and I have changed a few things around a bit so just try to be patient while I get it updated. Sorry for the delay!

Hello! I am Akali is SO HOT. I have been playing Akali! for quite a while and I can safely say that she is one of my favorite champions in the game. This guide will go over both how to play her in Mid and in the Top lane. She excels at both roles and is very fun at the same time. The way this guide will work is that for each section I will have a part dedicated to Mid Akali and then a second part dedicated to Top Akali. For some sections what I am talking about will apply to both positions so instead you will see a "Mid + Top" header. I hope you enjoy this guide and find it very helpful on your journey to becoming an Akali master!

Mid

Early Game is very tough for Akali. During the laning phase her pre 6 is very weak and enemies who know how to abuse it can push you out of lane very easily. What you need to do is stand back and just farm up until level 6. You can do this by using Mark of the Assassin[Q] to kill low health minions without having to go up and auto attack them or you can use Crescent Slash[E] as a pseudo auto attack because of the range you have on it. Poking and trading with your opponent early on is very important because if you can get them low enough to the point where trying to push you out of lane or even having to back gives you a huge advantage during laning. This is much easier when you are against melees than ranged because they have to go into melee range to trade with you (most of the time) but it is still possible to do against ranged champions. It used to be much easier when she could proc Mark of the Assassin[Q] with her Crescent Slash[E] but now that she can’t do that anymore it makes trading as her much harder.

A standard poking combo is to use Mark of the Assassin[Q] on your opponent and wait until your Mark of the Assassin[Q] is almost off cooldown and then you should go up to your enemy and auto attack them to proc it for mega damage. After that Mark of the Assassin[Q] will now be off cooldown again so you can mark them again with it and then auto attack them one more time for more mega damage before retreating.

Once you hit 6 laning usually becomes much easier. At this point what you want to do is mark your opponent and wait for Mark of the Assassin[Q] to come off cooldown. After this has happened you want to Shadow Dance[R] to your opponent and auto attack them to proc Mark of the Assassin[Q] and then throw down Twilight Shroud[W] on top of them and then follow up with another Mark of the Assassin[Q] and proc it again with your auto attack. This allows you to do a ton of damage to the enemy laner and usually wins you trades unless they have a lead against you or hard counter you. You don't necessarily have to use Twilight Shroud[W] if you can get the combo off fast enough but sometimes it's safer than sorry. It really depends on how well you are doing. Try not to spam Crescent Slash[E] too much in fights because it can take up a lot of energy and if you are out of energy as Akali then that is a really bad thing.

In terms of items you want to have at least Boots and a Core Item completed by the end of Early Game and possibly halfway through your second Core Item.

Top

When in the top lane, Akali has a much easier time Early Game because, generally but not always, there are less champions that can harass Akali out of lane (due to a lot of top lane champions being melee with little to no poke). Akali also has an easier time winning trades because, again, there are more melee champions up top lane that have a harder time trading back with her. Of course there are a lot of exceptions like Garen and Darius that are almost impossible to beat.

The standard trading combo for Top Akali is basically the same as Mid Akali so I'll just copy and paste the combo part of the Mid section into here.

For Top Akali, hitting 6 is very valuable because it is much harder for Top Lane enemies to retaliate against Akali than it is for Mid Lane opponents. Do the standard poking combo or all in combo like you would for Mid Akali and you should be able to chunk your opponent for quite a bit of their health. Unfortunately, there are quite a few matchups where you will almost always do little to no damage against them because of how tanky they are. For these matchups you still want to go in on them with your post level 6 combo because pushing out your opponent is always important. At the same time, it is also important because farming as Akali is important and pushing your opponent out of lane makes this infinitely easier to do. I will go over the type of matchups that you will have trouble against in the Champion Matchups section of the guide.

In terms of items you want to have at least Boots and your first Core Item completed by the end of Early Game and possibly halfway through your second Core Item.

Mid

Mid Game is where if you get a small lead during the laning phase you should start focusing on snowballing and carrying the game. Roaming is also very important as Akali because killing your enemy laner alone (and maybe the jungler depending on how the game is going) will not be enough to get you enough gold and levels to really snowball the game. Therefore, you should try to concentrate on roaming to pick up more kills and help out your team. Generally top lane will have someone who is tanky so you want to focus on ganking bot lane to either get yourself snowballing off of kills or getting your ADC fed when they ks your kills that you deserve. Don’t yell at them when they ks you though because they’ll rage and afk and you’ll lose the game :3

By the end of Mid Game Boots and 3 Core Items completed Also, with the Crescent Slash[E] changes that have made the cooldown lower Akali has become a monster split pusher. So if you see a lane open feel free to go up there and split push like no tomorrow. Her Passive on hit magic damage and lich bane makes taking down turrets as Akali a breeze and if you see an enemy coming towards you feel free to kill them and use their stolen elo and tears to help you take the turret. Try to avoid 1v5s though because you’ll probably die.

Dragon control is also very important during the mid game so make sure to place a lot of wards so you can keep that objective well protected for your team to take when you have the opportunity. A good time to do this would be when you make a pick on the enemy jungler or kill the enemy bot lane as the enemies will not be able to do much to contest you taking the dragon. Akali is very good at skirmishes and early on Dragon fights will consist of skirmishes. If you see a target get low from Dragon then it is a perfect opportunity to go in and start getting your Shadow Dance[R] resets. Once Akali gets rolling in a skirmish it is very hard to stop her. Also, make sure to have Baron warded. During the Mid Game Baron is not as important as it is hard to kill until your team has some items and can group properly but it is still important to have vision of it so make sure to ward up!

Top

Top Lane Akali is not as good at roaming as Mid Lane Akali unless you brought Teleport with you and even then you can only use it to gank once every 5 minutes which is a very long time. If you are losing lane you should be trying your best to farm at range with Mark of the Assassin[Q] and getting gold to get your core items as soon as possible. If you are winning, however, that means you should be able to consistently kill your lane opponent over and over again because of how good Akali is at snowballing her lane if she gets a lead.

If you are winning lane you should be using this opportunity to splitpush like no tomorrow and get as many turrets as you can while at the same time keeping the enemy top laner as starved as possible and make them a nonfactor in the game. Once you have your lich bane, Akali becomes a godlike splitpusher. Generally, the attack speed you will have at that point makes it so you can use an ability to proc lich bane and then auto attack 3 times before you can use another ability to proc it again for more damage against the turrets. Make sure to bring wards with you so you can escape ganks from the enemy Mid Laner or Jungler.

Once you have done a good job of splitpushing or see that the enemy team is starting to group a lot you can go ahead and either take an inhib if you are able to splitpush quickly enough or also group with your team and start picking up doubles and triples if you are ahead of your lane opponent. This is an important decision you have to make so make sure you think about what you should do before you do it.

Mid + Top

LateGame is where you want to be full build. This means by now you have some variation of the builds listed earlier in the Item Builds section of the guide. Your job late game is to make picks on squishy targets. You do this by scouting around with wards and looking for targets that are all by themselves and easily killed. When not to do this is if you see a Kalista all by herself but when you have no wards around the area. Sure you will be able to go in on her and get the kill very easily but if you do this without any wards and it turns out the the whole enemy team is right there then things will not end well for you. So before making picks make sure to have the area warded so you don’t get caught out and die and throw the game for your team.

Getting even one pick can potentially win you the entire game because winning a teamfight without your Origanna or Jinx is almost impossible late game. Akali can teamfight but it is very hard to do so. I will go over teamfighting as Akali in the Teamfight chapter. At this point once you have lich bane, Akali becomes a God at splitpushing. Just make sure to bring wards with you so you don’t get caught out and throw the game. Clearing waves is now a breeze as Akali's Crescent Slash[E] is now on a 1 second cooldown (without any CDR) and all the way up to 0.55 seconds with max CDR and allows you to clear waves very easily and very quickly. You can also use Crescent Slash[E] to get that lich bane proc off which allows you to do a ton of damage to towers. Akali's Passive on hit magic damage paired with lich bane makes her one of the fastest tower killers in the game so make sure to take advantage of that! As stated earlier in the Mid Game section, Akali is a great splitpusher so if teamfights aren't working out for you then pushing out waves and splitpushing is what you should be doing (as well as making picks whenever possible).

Unfortunately, ever since Riot changed it so that the players with the higher MMR get to be further up on the draft order in ranked it has been very difficult for me to get in ranked. And by difficult I mean VERY difficult. It is very annoying not being able to play her in games so instead I tend to play her in normals a lot. I have been playing since season 3 so I would say that I am very knowledgeable on the champion. Since my few games in ranked with aren’t a very credible source I’ve counted up my stats across all PvP games (on Summoner’s Rift not counting bot games) and in my last 150 games I have retained close to a 55% winrate with her! Lately, I have been winning a lot more games with her but I believe that my last 150 games and a 55% winrate should be good enough as a credible source to show my skill level with her (hopefully :3). If I can start to get more often in ranked then maybe later on I will post my stats with her once I get in enough games!

But Akali is SO HOT! Why would I ever play ???? Well it is very clear why you should play . The first and most obvious reason being that she is the Sideboob Goddess and also the hottest champion in the game. No champion comes even close to her in terms of beauty. She is also generally a really good solo q champion and once you get to understanding how to play her she is very fun and very rewarding. She is very good at stealing the elo of noobs and after every game you stomp with her you can calmly bask in the tears and stolen elo of your enemies in satisfaction. is a very good pick assassin and killing that carry that is out of position can easily win you the game. has been nerfed a lot however and Riot seems to really hate her. After her most recent nerfs it seems like Riot is finally done destroying her for a while so she should be safe from further nerfs for quite some time. is very mobile and dishes out a ton of damage which makes her very useful and very fun to play. Also, if I haven’t mentioned this already, she has great Sideboobs :3

-Very mobile with her -Very good sustain later on in the game thanks to her and -Great Sideboobs -Snowballs really hard and once she gets rolling against most teams she will carry you to victory ezpz -Correct placement of her allows for insane jukes -Really fun to play :3 -As long as you have a good grasp of her she is generally a really good solo q champion -Fantastic post 6 -Great at roaming and getting double kills off of the squishy bot lane -Did I mention her Sideboobs?

-Very squishy early on -Terrible pre 6 laning phase -Gets nerfed a lot because Riot hates her and Assassins -Her is basically not an ability outside of waveclear and for clearing camps -CC really screws her over -One of the least safe assassins in the game

Mid + Top

Teamfighting as can be very difficult but it is still very doable. What you want to do is stay near the outside of the fight but still close enough to be able to in on targets. Once you see a good opportunity to go in (usually either when major enemy cooldowns are blown or an enemy carry is out of position) in on them and go to town on them with your tonsofdamage. You should easily have enough damage to take them out very quickly but if you can’t then once you start getting focused down you should use to avoid being destroyed immediately.

placement is also key. Place your in a place that will make it very easy to juke your enemies (this is very easy if you are fighting in the jungle) or on top of the enemy you are trying to kill so you can keep going in and out of stealth while you are killing them. Even if they use a pink ward on it or a sweeper you still get the MS boost despite losing the stealth so it isn’t a total loss if you lose your stealth.

Although teamfighting with is difficult is one of those champions that gets rolling in fights once she gets a reset. If you can kill that one crucial target that will do tonsofdamage to your team if you don’t then you can clean up and kill the rest of the enemy team very easily as long as they don’t have a major damage or CC threat left. Don’t forget that you can use your to avoid said damage and CC and wait for the enemy team to blow it on someone else so they don’t instantly kill you when you go in for the kill. You should generally avoid teamfights and go for more skirmishing situations or splitpushing but, as said before, teamfights are still doable with .

Mid

is terrible at roaming pre 6. So, you should never roam pre 6 unless there is a reason to do it (which there almost never is). Just farm up and wait until you get that sweet . If you are on blue side you want to try to gank top more often because it is much easier to get a gank off by going through the tri bush. If the enemy top laner is really tanky and hard to kill or will probably get a double kill on you if you gank then you should put your attention towards bot instead. If you are on red side you should focus your attention towards bot lane for the same reason as before. If the enemy top laner is easy to kill then feel free to roam up top as well and pick up some easy kills.

Before you roam you want to shove out the wave so by the time you get back you haven’t lost very much cs to your turret. Once you get roaming becomes infinitely easier to do because it makes it very hard for your opponents to escape from you. When you roam to a lane you want to try to open up with a but usually your target will be out of range to do this so if you have to to them first instead that is perfectly fine. Just make sure that the lane you are roaming too has proper wards so you can avoid getting counterganked by the enemy jungle resulting in deaths that could snowball the enemy team to victory. Roaming to other lanes in conjunction with your jungler is also a never bad idea as the more people you have ganking a lane the better! Unless you screw up and the enemy gets a triple or quadra kill. That would be pretty bad :3

Top

Roaming and Ganking is a lot harder with Top . Generally you want to just stay top and push out your opponent and get as fed as you can while putting them as far behind as possible. If you took you can go ahead and use it to gank bot or mid if there is a ward around. You generally want to gank when the enemy laners are overextended and use on a ward in a bush so the enemy team has a harder time seeing you when you get in. After you do this you can go ahead and work with your team to kill your enemies and pick up a few kills and get you snowballing.

As for roaming, because you are up in the Top Lane you don't really have any options for roaming other than walking down to mid and most of the time ganking Mid is a pretty hard thing to do especially if the enemy is ranged. If you see that the enemy laner is overextended and is an easy kill then go on ahead and shove out your wave and try to roam to Mid to get a kill or at least burn a summoner spell. Another thing you can do is ward the enemy jungle and if you see the enemy jungler in the jungle and find that they are pretty low on health then you can go ahead and walk into their jungle. You want to hide in a bush or somewhere out of sight near the camp they are doing and once the camp gets them low you can go in and either take the camp from them or go in on them and kill them. If a jungler dies they can be potentially put behind for the rest of the game so doing this can win games for you. Just make sure that the enemy top or mid laner doesn't follow you into the jungle to kill you.

ULTIMATE PINK WARD SPOT This position is the best spot for pink wards in the game. One of my friends discovered this and ever since them I have been placing pink wards there every game I get the chance to. This place gives you vision of the jungler when she is at red buff, walking to raptors, walking to krugs, and going into the brush to walk towards top or bot (depending on the side). In addition, almost nobody ever checks there so this ward tends to last for a really long time. ABUSE IT WHILE YOU CAN FREINDS.

Here is also a short video that a friend of mine made that shows just how powerful this place for the pink ward is. Enjoy :3

Mid + Top

This mostly applies to Mid but if you are jungling as her you should be aware of this too. You must remember that is countered hard by and so be very careful of this. Before every all in or engagement or teamfight or whatever it is you should always check the inventory of the enemy team and see if there is anyone who can reveal you while you are in your . 's stealth is her second biggest asset (I think you know what her biggest asset is :^) hehehehe) and being able to get rid of that is huge.

In lane this is easily taken care of. If you are up against a for example what you want to do is put down your and go into it but do not engage on him but rather you want to stay near the edge towards safety. 99% of the time the will either immediately put down a or use his to try and find you only to realize that it was a bait and now he has nothing to see you with. If it was a all you have to do is go up to it and kill it when you have the chance and if it was a just wait for it to wear off and for your cooldowns to come back up and then you can engage ezpz back on to him for a free kill.

If you did this without looking at inventory and you went in without realizing that had a counter to your stealth that could have easily meant death for you and then onto a snowballing which is never a good thing. So make sure to always check inventory before heading in for a kill in lane.

In skirmishes and teamfights this becomes more of a problem as you won’t have time to wait for your to come back off cooldown because you will already be in the middle of the enemy team with almost no way out. What I tend to do is just ignore the fact that I have been revealed and jump to my target and kill them before the enemy team can take advantage of the fact that I am no longer stealthed. By this time you should have so that is always an option to use when you don’t have your stealth. It can be hard to play around at first but after you play a lot you start to find ways of avoiding death even when your stealth mechanic is useless :3 JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU CHECK WHO WILL BE ABLE TO REVEAL YOU WHEN YOU GO IN BY CHECKING INVENTORIES SO YOU CAN ADJUST YOUR GAMEPLAY ACCORDINGLY. Thanks :3

By level 18 you should have full CDR due to items + masteries + runes. This means that your is on a 2.2 second cooldown, your is on a 11 second cooldown, your is on a 0.55 second cooldown, and time in between uses for your is on a 0.55 second cooldown and the time it takes to gain a charge for your is 8.25 seconds.

What is so great about this you ask? Well, now your has a whopping 3 second downtime which makes positioning, escaping, etc. so much easier as and can really save your life and help you kill targets in teamfights. In addition, your is on a low enough cooldown where you can basically kill waves instantly. You can use your much more often meaning that you have to wait for a shorter period of time in your to use again on the target you are trying to kill. Getting charges on your more quickly can be the difference between being able to dash to that target one more time to pick up the kill and reset and just running towards him only to be kited and die without killing them. Sure you give up a little damage but for how low her cooldowns get it is definitely worth it.

Throughout this guide I have talked a lot about how important getting full CDR as is but you may be wondering to yourself why it would be so good if you would just run out of energy really quickly because you would spam your abilities so much. Well looks like it’s time to do a little math! At level 18 with all maxed out abilities and 45% CDR: costs 60 Energy but returns 40 Energy when proced costs 60 Energy costs 40 Energy costs 1 Essence of Shadow (so it costs no Energy! :3) has an Energy pool of 200 Energy. What does this mean? Let’s assume for a second that there is no such thing as Energy Regen and once you lose Energy you do not get any back from natural regeneration. A full combo from (, , auto attack, , auto attack) would cost a total of 120 Energy. But wait! When you proc your you get 40 Energy back so a full combo would actually only cost 40 Energy! If you wanted to throw a in there it would go up to 100 Energy and if you wanted to throw in an it would cost a total of 140 Energy as long as you do the combo correctly.

When you take the fact that Energy regen is fairly quick you should have no trouble managing your Energy. With a build that doesn’t provide any CDR this becomes a lot easier because the cooldowns on your abilities restrict you from spamming too much. With a CDR like this one, however, you are much more susceptible of running out of Energy which can be very bad. However, let’s do the math and see how long it takes for you to run out of Energy assuming you only use one time in a fight. If you use , , and in the following optimal order you should end up with something similar to this: , , , , , , , , , If you end up doing something like this and get all of the procs off you would end up with an energy cost along the lines of this (including the energy return from procing ): 20 > 40 > 80 > 140 > 160 > 180 > 200 So if you used 5 times, 1 time, 1 time, and 3 times you would use a total of 200 Energy which is conveniently the size of your Energy Pool! And this isn’t even counting the fact that Energy regenerates at a fairly fast pace! Now of course this is only Theorycrafting and there are many other factors that you have to take into consideration when using your abilities. So this must be really confusing but THE TLDR IS:

As long as you do not completely spam in fights and use very wisely you should never have any problems with Energy as long as you are able to get all of the procs off on . If you look at my montage videos posted near the bottom of the guide you can see how I use my energy in fights so that I don’t run out and become useless because I can’t do anything. It may be hard at first but after some practice you should have no trouble with Energy Management :3

Just to finish up my guide I have some final comments to give you on Akali: - has a very weak pre 6 so try to farm it out until you get your so you can start to roam and get fed off of your enemies - is a great ganker after she gets her so take advantage of that - is the best item ever on ! -Try not to spam unless you absolutely have to -Her is her bread and butter ability and does a ton of single target damage which is why is so good at killing people later on in the game - is one of the best chasers and pick assassins in the game -Don’t forget about how to do the “Double Mota Proc” -Use 's to position well and juke your opponents into a better situation or position! - has the best sideboobs in the game :3

Well that’s my guide I hope you enjoyed it! She is a very fun champion to play and has always been my favorite in the game. She has a lot of solo q potential and once you get her mechanics down you can carry games all by yourself. Don’t forget the fact that she is really freaking hot and dem sideboobs hehehehhehehehehehehe. I have never gotten a guide featured before and after reading the guide to getting a guide featured I think I have all of the requirements necessary to do so but only time will tell I suppose. I hope I can eventually get this guide featured so it gains more popularity so I can help the most number of people learn how to play but for now I hope the few people that are reading this found it very helpful. I love comments and feedback so please go ahead and tell me what you thought of this guide and what I could change about it to make it better for you guys! I'm sure there are a lot of typos that I missed so I'll be going back over this guide to make sure I fix them all. I will definitely make sure to come back to this guide after every patch and update it regularly ! Now go out there and get em tiger!
