This guide will go over the basics of being not only a good Soraka player, but an efficient Soraka player who knows his/her role in any game. You will learn when what to build, where and when to ward, and several key factors that will lead to a successful game.

Use the beginning of the guide if you are looking for a quick reference on how to build Soraka. Read Chapters 3-5 if you are new to Soraka and do not know what her role is or her skills. Read Chapter 6-11 if you are looking for several different runes, skills, item, or masteries builds. Read Chapter 12-18 if you need a guideline on Game Mechanics, and how to ward + CV. The current meta: Top Lane: Bruiser Mid Lane: AP Bot Lane: Ranged AD + Support Jungle: A jungler. Why is there a support: A support is a champion who does not need farm to help or benefit the team. A support provides your team utility. For example, Soraka benefits a team by Healing, providing armor, providing Mana, silencing the opposing team, or in some cases, help kill the opposing team. The role of a Soraka is to [.]Protect your ranged AD while he FARMS. [.]Deny the other Ranged AD farm. [.]Provide Vision for Your Team. [.]Deny Vision to the Opposing Team. [.]Make Good Calls.

In a team fight, this spells is beneficial as it can keep your team alive. [imgsmall=skills/soraka/r.png] is obviously the first skill to max out, this is a global ult and is a clutch spell. I like to max out [imgsmall=skills/soraka/e.png]next because it provides mana and a silence. It can also burst very high if you have sufficient AP. Then I like to switch between [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png]or[imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png] depending on the lane, or the game phase. I get [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] if we aren't being harassed or if we are in the position of harassing the other team. [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png]if we are having difficulty sustaining in lane. The skill Order isn't the Ten Commandments. You can break the skill order up in nearly any way that suits the game best. The skill Order depends largely on the game you are in and your play style. The skill set above is normally used in a premade where communication is available. This skill set is very effective to harass, secure a kill, and to sustain your lane partner. Another way to build soraka is to max out your [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png] for lane sustain, followed by [imgsmall=skills/soraka/e.png]to have sufficient mana. I end with a [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] because this skill is not used very often. The second skill order would suit beginners more. It is also used very often in solo que. The high sustain lets you and your partner stay in lane to farm.

There are a variety of runes available, but only some are viable. Flat armor red and yellow is a good choice as a support. Generally the bottom lane is made up of a Ranged DPS (Physical Damage) and a support (Magic/physical Damage). Very often though, the support would not be harassing hard(except in certain cases). Most of the harassment will come from the ranged DPS. Therefore, having the extra armor to block out that physical damage is key. Magic res per level in blue is vital to help keep you alive against any magic damage champion late game. Magic Resist blues and a defensive item will make it difficult to destroy you with one burst. A health quint generally helps you all around. It increases your sustain in lane and out on the field. (Getting away with 30 hp :P) 2 Gold Per 10 quint will help provide a more stable income. These are just my personal preferences, a support may use a variety of runes depending on play style and the team composition.

[title]Soraka's build can be very diverse. [/title] You can build to be a strong support: [img=items/philosophers-stone.png] [img=items/mercurys-treads.png][img=items/heart-of-gold.png] [img=items/aegis-of-the-legion.png] [imgsmall=items/shurelyas-reverie.png] [title]Explanation: The gold per 5 from philosopher stone and heart of gold will help provide a stable gold source to purchase sight wards, vision wards, and an oracles elixir. This gold, plus the amount of gold you received from assists will also help to purchase items in the future. Mercury Threads is a good item to purchase because it provides magic resist, tenacity reduction, and passive movement speed 2.Aegis of the Legion is an obvious choice for a support. It provides an aura that gives +12 Armor, +15 Magic Resistance, +8 Damage. It also provides the user with 18 Armor, 270 Health, 24 Magic Resist. Shurelya's Reverie is an essential item to have as it provides you with both health, health regeneration, mana regeneration, and cooldown reduction. It's active skill can be a determining factor in several ways. It can be used as an initiator, a gap closer, and an escape.[/title] An AP SUPPORT BUILD: [img=items/philosophers-stone.png][img=items/mercurys-treads.png][img=items/rabadons-deathcap.png] [title]Explanation: The gold per 5 philosopher stone gives you s small amount of gold compared to having both philosopher stone and heart of gold. Therefore, most of your income will come in from receiving assist. As mentioned above, is a good item to get because it provides magic resist, tenacity reduction, and passive movement speed 2. A Rabaddon's Deathcap will allow you to do efficient damage using [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] and [imgsmall=skills/soraka/e.png] with high healing outputs from [imgsmall=skills/soraka/w.png] and [imgsmall=skills/soraka/r.png]. I tend not to build a Shurelya's Reverie on an AP support. If you are to build Shurelya's Reverie, you will no longer have a stable income to afford wards. [/title] Optional Items: [img=items/banshees-veil.png][img=items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png][img=items/will-of-the-ancients.png][img=items/quicksilver-sash.png] [imgsmall=items/shurelyas-reverie.png] And other defensive items that either provide an aura or benefits the team in some way. [title] Explanation: A banshee's veil will provide Magic Resist, health, and mana, all which are essential elements for nearly any champion. A rylai's Crystal Scepter is essentially a good item for nearly an AP-based champion. It is especially efficient on [imgsmall=champ/soraka.png] because it provides Health and AP, as well as a passive that can allow you to kite the other team. The Rylai's Crystal Scepter works very well with Soraka's [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png]). Will of the Ancient is a strong choicee because it provides you with ridiculous spell vamp from your [imgsmall=skills/soraka/q.png] and [imgsmall=skills/soraka/e.png]. Knowing how to use a Quicksilver Sash will let you escape from being Instakilled while you are under crowd control in even the toughest situation. Not only does it provide you with magic resist, but also immunity to a stun. [/title] Consistent Items:[img=items/sight-ward5.png][img=items/vision-ward5.png][img=items/oracles-elixir.png] The above builds are very basic builds that I aim for. I adjust my build depending on the game. If you are getting killed, it may be smart to pick up early health, magic resist, or armor. If you are in control of the game, it may be smart to pick up extra AP. Your build is very situational: If their AP Carry getting fed, and I have [imgsmall=items/philosophers-stone.png], [imgsmall=items/mercurys-treads.png], and [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png], I would rush [imgsmall=items/negatron-cloak.png], then [imgsmall=items/banshees-veil.png] or [imgsmall=items/quicksilver-sash.png].

Game Mechanics are essential to playing league of Legends. You should know both the game mechanics and your champion mechanics. By the end of this guide, you will have good knowledge of both. Typically, Soraka can lane with almost anyone, but the current meta calls for a ranged DPS and support. Viable Duo Ranged AD Partners [In the current META] are: [imgsmall=champ/ashe.png][imgsmall=champ/caitlyn.png][imgsmall=champ/corki.png][imgsmall=champ/ezreal.png][imgsmall=champ/vayne.png][imgsmall=champ/missfortune.png][imgsmall=champ/graves.png][imgsmall=champ/kogmaw.png][imgsmall=champ/tristana.png] Sometimes Seen: [imgsmall=champ/teemo.png][imgsmall=champ/twitch.png] I personally like to lane with Ashe, Caitlyn, Kog'Maw, and Ezreal. [title][center]Playing Passive VS. Playing Aggressive[/center][/title] [highlight]Passive play: Minimum harassment, centered around farming. Aggressive play: High harassment, centered around several factors, especially farming, zoning, and securing kills.[/highlight] [title]Laning with Ashe[/title] [.]An Ashe-Soraka lane is very passive. [.]Generally you will heal and infuse Ashe to keep her alive. [.]When infusing Ashe, you will allow her to spam her Volley. [.]An easy kill can be secured if your jungler ganks when Ashe hits Level 6. [title]Laning with Caitlyn[/title] [.]A Caitlyn-Soraka lane can be either passive or aggressive. [.]Passive: Heal and Infuse Caitlyn to keep her alive. [.]Aggressive: When infusing Caitlyn, you will allow her to spam her piltover at the other team. [.]Aggressive: Caitlyn has the largest range early game. Use this to out harass the other lane. You have more sustain then most lane combinations. [.]Aggressive: You can use infuse to help poke or prevent a counter attack. [title]Laning with Corki[/title] [.]A Corki-Soraka lane can be either passive or aggresive. [.]Passive: Heal and Infuse Corki to keep him alive. [.]Aggressive: When infusing Corki after Level 6, you will allow him to spam his Missile Barrage. [To an extent as it needs time to charge] [.]Aggressive: Corki is very strong early game. True damage from his passive allows him to out harass the other lane if he is able to utilize all of his skills. At Level 6, Corki becomes even stronger when he is able to use his Missile Barrage to harass and/or last hit. [.]Aggressive: You can use infuse to help poke or prevent a counter attack. [title]:Laning with Ezreal[/title] [.]A Ezreal-Soraka lane can be either passive or aggresive. [.]Passive: Heal and Infuse Ezreal to keep him alive. [.]Aggressive: When infusing Ezreal, you will allow him to spam his Mystic shot. [.]Aggressive: Ezreal is very strong early game. His Mystic shot gives him an edge in damage [Low Cooldown, Scales with AD] when trading blows. [.]Aggressive: You can use infuse to help poke or prevent a counter attack. [title]Laning with Kog'Maw[/title] [.]A Kog'Maw-Soraka lane can be either passive or aggresive. [.]Passive: Heal and Infuse Kog'Maw to keep him alive. [.]Aggressive: When infusing Kog'Maw after Level 6, you will allow him to spam his Living Artillery. [.]Aggressive: Kog'Maw becomes very strong at around level 4-5 when he has 3 points in his Bio-Arcane Barrage. This will also give him a slight edge over several ranged AD because of his increased range. I generally play very passive until Kog'Maw has 3 points in his Bio-Arcane Barrage. [.]Aggressive: You can use infuse to help poke or prevent a counter attack. [title]Laning with Miss Fortune[/title] [.]A Miss Fortune-Soraka lane can be either passive or aggresive. [.]Passive: Heal and Infuse Miss Fortune to keep him alive. [.]Aggressive: When infusing Miss Fortune, she is able to spam her Double Up to harass and/or last hit. [.]Aggressive: Miss Fortune is very strong early game. She can poke the other team from a distance. Her damage output is high during the early stages of the game. [.]Aggressive: You can use infuse to help poke or prevent a counter attack. Other Lanes: Very often, I would not use Soraka with other lane partners ([imgsmall=champ/graves.png][imgsmall=champ/vayne.png][imgsmall=champ/tristana.png]). I would rather use one of the other available supports such as Alistar, Taric, or Sona to further utilize their kill potential. (All have high burst with sustained damage and gap closers.) When picking soraka, you must note the other team's bottom lane (if you are doing draft mode). Soraka can fit into nearly any team comp and with nearly any ranged DPS.

When to use CV in Solo Que: [.]Use CV at the very start. [.]Search for where the other team's jungle. When to use CV in an arranged team: [.]Use CV at the very start. [.]Use CV so you can counter jungle, or protect your own jungle. [.]Hold onto your CV unless your team calls for it, especially jungler. **NOTE: This is only if you have good communication with your team and you are confident that your team knows how and when to call for CV. Early Game [imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png]: [.]Search for their jungler. [.]Most junglers start at Golem (Blue Buff) or Mini Golems. [.]Search for their team. [.]Protective CV on your own buffs. [.]It is ineffective to use Clairvoyance right on top of a camp. It is much better to put it between two camps. [.]Below, marked in blue, are common places to use your [imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] [imgext=] Mid Game [imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png]: [.]Find the opposing team's jungler. [.][imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] before you ward (So you don't face check bushes) [.][imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] if you are suspicious the other team is doing dragon or possibly baron. Late Game [imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] ([imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] is very important at this point. Having a good CV to give vision can win the game): [.][imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] before you ward (So you don't face check bushes) [.][imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] if you are suspicious the other team is doing dragon/baron. [.][imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] to find the other team. [.][imgsmall=summoners/clairvoyance.png] an area before your team moves into it.

A good support is a support who knows how to ward. Defensive Warding For Bottom Lane: [imgext=] ****6 is the bush on bottom lane between the outer turrets closest to purple. ****7 is the bush on bottom lane between the outer turrets closest to blue. For defensive Warding, you may need to put up multiple wards to ensure your safety. On Blue Team, you can ward: Perfect Warding that provides full coverage of any possible ganks. [.]1,4,6 [.]1,3,6 [.]1,2,6 ****6 is optional, it should be used with certain champions who are efficient at creeping. Good Warding that provides coverage of very common ganks. [.]2 [.]3 [.]4 On Purple Team, you can ward: Perfect Warding that provides full coverage of any possible ganks. [.]1,5,7 (Provides a good Ward for Mid as well.) [.]1,4,7 [.]1,3,7 [.]1,2,7 ****7 is optional, it should be used with certain champions who are efficient at creeping. Good Warding that provides coverage of very common ganks. [.]1 [.]2 [.]3 Defensive warding changes as the game goes on, as your team pushes, you might have to ward different parts of the jungle. The most important thing to understand is that the other team would use the shortest path to gank you. If you push to the Inner turret, you might want to ward the other team's buff as it gives you vision of incoming ganks. Dragon Warding: You should drop a pink ward by dragon to take out the other team's wards. This gives the other team less vision of dragon and allows your jungler to safely do dragon. [imgext=] Offensive Warding: [.]Warding the opponent's red or blue buff so your jungler can come around and steal it, or possibly gank the opposing team's jungler. [.]Effective especially early game. End Game Ward Locations: [imgext=] [title]Knowing when to ward.[/title] [.]Do not get caught when warding. I can not emphasize this enough. I always have those supports who think it is a good idea to face check and ward. During Late Game you should not face check just to ward. [.]CV before warding if you do not know where the other team is. [title][center]Clearing Wards[/center][/title] I like to get an early pink ward for dragon. That way the other team won't have vision of dragon. When you pick up oracles, you should wait until it is safe (Know where the other team is) before going out to clear wards. Generally, people place wards where I posted above. In late game situations, you should move with your team to clear baron wards, dragon wards, and any wards the opposing team has. This will reduce the amount of vision the other team has.

[title]Dragon[/title] [.]If you know where the enemy jungle is, or if you are in a good position to dragon, then you should attempt to dragon. Be aware if top lane can teleport. [.]You should clear dragon of any wards before your team attempts a dragon. [.]Typically, you can sneak a dragon if your jungler is capable of doing sufficient damage to the dragon. [.]Call the dragon timer if no one else does. This should be second nature. [title]Baron[/title] [.]You should constantly be clearing wards at baron. [.]A good baron call after you get 1-2 kills can hand you the game. [.]You should have warded around baron to foresee any incoming ganks. [.]Call the dragon timer if no one else does. This should be second nature.

In general: When you heal, use common sense, your heal is 18 second CD. Give Solo EXP to your lane Partner. [.]This is very situational and hard to explain. You have to use common sense on when to leave lane. [.]Generally, if someone in their lane goes back, you have 2 choices. Zone the person who is left behind, or go back and let your ranged ad get solo exp. [.]If you lose a turret, you should just ward up and let your ranged ad farm. You should go around warding, clearing wards, helping in small skirmishes, assisting a lane that needs help. [.]If you push a turret, make sure to ward up for your ranged ad. You should generally be close enough to the ranged ad where you are able to assist if he/she is ganked. [.]At this point, you should go around into different lanes, and ward the jungle, but be very careful. Your team mates are worth more then yourself. [.]Take one for the team. If someone is absolutely going to die, sacrifice yourself. EXAMPLE: Lee Sin ganks bottom lane, both you and your partner are low hp. Take one for the team and try to distract them so that your ad can escape. It is better for you to die then your carries.

Early Game (1-2 Minutes) [.]As a team, decide if you want to invade (Unless your team is far superior, you should not invade. Soraka does not have high damage output early game) [.]If you choose to invade, decide on a route to take. Stay in the back, it is very easy to be caught. CV before running into their jungle. Silence the person you want to kill. Example: Sion stuns Caitlyn when you catch her in your CV, Chain CC with Silence so she can't flash. Your team gets first blood. Give blue buff to either your jungler or AP carry. [.]If you choose not to invade, protect your jungler. Use your CV on the other team's jungler first. Each jungler can start differently. If you find them, then generally you are safe. [.]If you do not find them with your CV, you can check to see if they are invading. CV your Red+Wraithes, CV Red+Mini Golems, CV Blue+ Wolves, CV jungle. Laning Phase (3-XX) Laning phase can be either quick or slow. [.]You should not be taking CS if you have a competent Ranged Ad. [.]You should use your E as much as possible without exposing you, or your team mates to the possibility of being out harassed, opened ganks, or deaths. [.]You should use your W to heal your lane partner or yourself to prevent death. [.]You should know the basic jungle path. Use your CV to locate the opposing team's jungler. For example. if there is a lee sin on purple team and had started at mini golems, he would typically gank top at level 2. Using CV can help assure that your top lane knows that Lee Sin is ganking or not. [.]Map Awareness is key, keep your lane warded and secured.[Refer to Chapter 12:Warding]. [.]Keep an eye out at other lanes. You can help prevent your team from dieing with your ultimate. [.]If the situation is fit, or if your team pushed mid or bot lane out and your jungler is close to bottom lane, attempt to take dragon. Have your lane partner pressure bottom lane and push to the other turret while you go assist in dragon. Be aware of any teleports your team or the other team might have. If you started with [imgsmall=items/faerie-charm.png]+[imgsmall=items/sight-ward3.png]: [.]You should ward the river as soon as you push past half point on the river. [.]You can ward one of the 2 bushes found on bottom lane. [.]Refer to Warding Section to find out where you should ward. [.]You should recall at about 12:00 to 14:00 to buy philosopher stone, 2-3 wards and a few health potions. [.]If you dominated your lane and got assist or a few CS, you should pick up a philosopher stone, heart of gold (if possible), boots, 2-3 wards and a few health/mana potions. **Always have at least 2 wards on you after you recall the first time. [.]Generally, you can afford philosopher stone at around 6-8 minutes. If you want to recall early, or if you are forced out of lane, you can pick up the philosopher stone here. This allows you to build your next item faster. [.]When you run out of wards, or when the situation seems fit, you should recall and buy Heart of Gold and/or Mercury Threads and several wards. It is also smart to pick up a vision ward to counter ward. If you are ahead by a lot, pick up an oracles. [.]Get a Kage's Lucky Pick [If you want to] and more wards the next time you recall. ***Note that the laning phase might be over before you get Kage's Lucky Pick (In which case, I would skip the item and go for Aegis). Generally the laning phase will not end before you get heart of gold. Mid Game [Last 5 minutes of Laning-First 5-10 minutes after laning phase.] [.]Give your Ranged DPS solo experience, this allows them to get higher levels. [.]Ward the river and buffs using Clairvoyance to assist you. [.]Clear enemy wards. [.]Complete objectives with your team: Assist your team in pushing a turret. Assist your team to take dragon. Prevent your team mates from dieing. [.]Build Aegis no later then 20-30 minutes. [Recommended Time:20-25] [.]Build Shurelya no later then 25-35 minutes. [Recommended Time:25-30] [.]Have an Oracles Elixir at any point during Mid Game.
