Out of all the champions in the league, [imgsmall=champ/hecarim.png] is probably one of the most underrated champions. It's not unlikely that, when you select Hecarim you will hear negative remarks from your teammates during the pre-game chat. Not only because he's an uncommon pick, but also because everyone assumes he's a jungler. What most players don't realise is Hecarim potential. With Hecarim, you're able to out sustain enemy harassment and avoid enemy ganks with ease by using your E. You can use his Q to the fullest instead of its reduced damage against minions and monsters. It's because of this great potential that I decided to make this guide. I hope my playstyle with Hecarim will enlighten some players and make this pony a famous jungler, and above all a viable top lane pick. When Hecarim began to march eastwards, leaving a trail of desolate, lifeless ground behind him, the villagers of the plains fled their homes for the safety of nearby Demacia. Some claimed that he was the vengeful shade of an ancient warrior, intent on destroying all living beings; one man insisted that they had seen him leading an entire legion of spectral cavalrymen; others still believed him to be the creation of some hateful necromancer. One Demacian commander, seeking to dispel the terror that had gripped the city, assembled a few of his finest soldiers and rode out to turn back or destroy Hecarim. The commander led his soldiers to stand in Hecarim's path and braced for his assault. As the apparition bore down on them, an overwhelming sensation of dread gripped the warriors. The men, frozen in fear, could only scream as the ghostly titan ran them down, tearing them apart and trampling them beneath his iron hooves. Hecarim turned to the crippled, cowering commander and uttered a chilling statement: ''This is merely the beginning. No mortal army can withstand the might of the Shadow Isles.'' With that, Hecarim departed, resuming his grim march. Driven to insanity by his nightmarish experience, the commander stumbled back to Demacia, where his dire warnings were dismissed as the ravings of a madman. While Hecarim's origin and intent were still a mystery, his destination became clear when he reached the Institute of War and, in a voice both ominous and commanding, demanded entry into the League of Legends. As you can already notice by my most played champions, I'm not pinned down to having one main role. I consider myself more as an all-round player. I've been a part of the League of Legends and Solomid community for quite some time now. The reason I am currently stuck at this elo might have something to do with not specialising in one main role. But who knows, I might break this barrier soon?! I played Hecarim for over 250 games now and felt there was a lack of helpfull guides for this champion. So here it is! I Played a decent amount of games as Hecarim Solo Top, and reached a winning streak of 14 games. Can you beat that?

It's based on a stronger early game. [title]Marks[/title] - [highlight]Red (Flat AD):[/highlight] For better early game poke. [title]Seals[/title] - [highlight]Yellow (armor):[/highlight] Basic runes for harass from AD champs. [title]Glyphs[/title] - [highlight]Primary Blue (magic resist lvl 18):[/highlight] For late game. - [highlight]Alternative Blue (Flat magic resist):[/highlight] If you're playing against an AP top. Never get cockblocked again by minions or champions! [title][img=skills/hecarim/q.png] Q: Rampage[/title] [number]Hecarim cleaves nearby enemies, dealing physical damage. (50% damage to minions and monsters) If Hecarim damages at least one enemy unit with this attack, he gains a stack of Rampage, reducing the base cooldown of this skill by 1 second for a short duration. This effect can stack up to 2 times. -Cost: 25 mana -Cooldown: 4 seconds -Radius of AoE: 350 -Physical Damage: 50 / 85 / 120 / 155 / 190 (+0.6 per bonus attack damage) -Physical Damage to Minions: 33.33 / 56.66 / 80 / 103.33 / 126.66 (+0.4 per bonus attack damage)[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] Great poke tool in lane. It takes a few seconds to get the stacks up, but once you got them, you're able to spam your Q. The cool part about this skill is that you can auto-attack or move while using it. [title][img=skills/hecarim/w.png] W: Spirit of Dread[/title] [number]Hecarim surrounds himself with the spirit of dread for 4 seconds, dealing magic damage per second to all enemies within its reach. Additionally, Hecarim is healed for a percentage of the damage enemies within the area take from any source. In teamfights this spell should be up as much as possible, because this procs with your Q and you're able to rapidly gain back any missing health. His next attack knocks the target back, dealing physical damage based on how far Hecarim has traveled during Devastating Charge's duration. -Cost: 60 mana -Cooldown: 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 seconds -Minimum Damage: 40 / 75 / 110 / 145 / 180 (+0.5 per bonus attack damage) -Maximum Damage: 80 / 150 / 220 / 290 / 360 (+1.0 per bonus attack damage)[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] This spell can be a little tricky. The biggest mistake people make is that they knock the target further away from their team instead of knocking the target into their team. The longer this ability lasts, the more damage it does. [title][img=skills/hecarim/r.png] R: Onslaught of Shadows[/title] [number]Hecarim summons spectral riders and charges forward, dealing magic damage to anyone they strike. Hecarim releases a shockwave when he finishes his charge, dealing additional magic damage and causing nearby enemies to flee in terror away from Hecarim for 1 second. -Cost: 100 mana -Range: 1000 -Cooldown: 140 / 120 / 100 seconds -Initial Magic Damage: 100 / 200 / 300 (+0.8 per ability power) -Shockwave Damage: 50 / 125 / 200 (+0.4 per ability power)[/number] [title]Explanation:[/title] What makes [imgsmall=champ/hecarim.png] a great teamfighter is his [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/r.png]. This gives you and your team the possibility to initiate from a very long range. Able to jump over any wall as a pony. Also if you get hit by crowd control when landing your ult, you CAN'T BE DISABLED, take that master yi and olaf!

[imgext=http://i49.tinypic.com/2dacfh0.png] - Max your [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/q.png] for great poke and damage. - [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/w.png] should be maxed 2nd for sustain at toplane/teamfights. - [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/e.png] should be maxed last, taking a single point at either level 3 or 4 depending on their jungler (early game ganks or not). The movement speed helps your to escape ganks and grands you additional AD (+4). [img=items/cloth-armor.png][img=items/health-potion5.png] This can also work if you're facing heavy AD's top that want to kill you. the [imgsmall=items/cloth-armor.png] can be turned into [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png] or [imgsmall=items/wriggles-lantern.png] [highlight]First trip back:[/highlight] [img=items/heart-of-gold.png] or/and [img=items/philosophers-stone.png] Get your GP10 items early. If they have AD jungler and top or you having a hard time top against an AD, go [imgsmall=items/ninja-tabi.png]. [img=items/randuins-omen.png] If you bought an early Heart of Gold and you seem to be lacking CC. The aoe slow is very helpful when you dive at their carries. It also gives you armor, Cooldown Reduction, health and a debuff. [img=items/guardian-angel.png] Simple because a pony never dies. [img=items/force-of-nature.png] Gives extra health regen and good magic resist. [img=items/warmogs-armor.png] If you want more HP also synergizes good with [imgsmall=items/force-of-nature.png]. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [title][center]Possible items:[/center][/title] [img=items/the-bloodthirster.png] If your team is lacking damage. [img=items/maw-of-malmortius.png] Strong against double AP or AP lane. Also nice amount of damage. [img=items/phantom-dancer.png] For extra movement speed (espcially when trolling.) [img=items/shurelyas-reverie.png] For the perfect engage/chasing down enemies. Escaping initiations.

Hecarim's early game is rather weak because he is kind off item dependant. At level 1 save your skill point and move with your team whether you are invading or defending your jungle. Based on the situation level the spell you feel you need the most. Else just level your [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/q.png] Once you get to the lane try to focus on last hitting and playing passive pre 6. Don't be afraid to ask your jungler for an early gank.

By now you should have your [imgsmall=items/heart-of-gold.png] and [imgsmall=items/sheen.png]. If you feel like winning your lane you can go all-in or just play it safe and farm a little bit more. Once you complete [imgsmall=items/trinity-force.png] group up with your team and push for objectives. You should almost always be the one initiating. So, if you see an opportunity, don't be afraid to [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/r.png] into their team. Most people underestimate this initial damage.

Late game is almost the same as Mid Game but everyone is now playing alot safer. This is the point in the game where one mistake can lose the entire game. You should be pushing objectives like baron, dragon, towers and inhibitors. You're still leading your team into fights with your [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/r.png] or trying to pick people of with [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/e.png]. Just be sure your not abodonning your team in the process cause [imgsmall=champ/hecarim.png] is so unreal fast. You can also split push because you're nearly uncatchable with [imgsmall=summoners/ghost.png] , [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/e.png] , [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/r.png] , [imgsmall=items/shurelyas-reverie.png].

- Try to focus down the carries first if this isn't an option try to protect your carries. - You can do a perfect initiate with [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/r.png]. - Don't be afraid to die in teamfights to protect your carries or kill their carries. - Make sure your [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/w.png] is up as much as possible. - Spam that [imgsmall=skills/hecarim/q.png].

[title]Akali[/title] [img=champ/akali.png] 4/10 - Careful Q + auto, deals alot of damage. - Engage when she used Q to last hit. - Pay attention to her energy bar. This section will be entirely how I personally play Hecarim in the jungle. The general impression of Hecarim Jungle is that he is 'Decent'. His sustain in the jungle against monsters is ok, his clear speed is ok, but Hecarim's mid and late-game power is faceroll. The key is getting to it. [imgsmall=summoners/ghost.png] for obvious reasons that I have listed in the above section on Solo Top Summoner Spells. [highlight]Other Viable Options[/highlight] [img=summoners/exhaust.png] For a more aggressive playstyle, for better early game ganks. This can secure many kills in the early game and late game you can control the flow of a team fight by exhausting key targets. On the down side, you will even worse escape than you already do. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [center][title]Jungle path[/title][/center] Jungle Path 1) Start wolves 2) Grab blue immediately after 3) Get your wraiths 4) Do double golems 5) Get your red 6) Look for opportunities to gank

The League of Legends community has created the illusion of rank = skill. It might be true, that you're gold elo and so is your knowledge. Rank is a tool to show your progression- just because you're bronze now doesn't necessarily mean you can't be platinum some day. "I know that, but I'm frustrated at my elo because I'm not improving!". Then you don't understand what this means. You shouldn't go to matches with a mindset of "I don't want to lose". It's a bad way to think- you get frustrated easily and start making excuses when you lose. In reality, if you truly were platinum elo at that moment of time, you would be in platinum. Whether it's your mechanics holding you back or something else, it doesn't matter. You are not platinum elo at that moment. Never think that your opponent is bad when you are playing because if you do, you probably won't notice your own mistakes. I have to confess, this game has made me very angry at times. I usually don't get mad at games, and that's a reason I've thought about it quite a bit- I realized I got mad because I hated losing so much, my brain eventually started to think in a way of "Fuck, I'm gonna lose again... *Sigh*". You need to think about what you do in the game, and what you do wrong. Don't be afraid to lose, it's inevitable.
