IntroductionMalphite is a very powerful tank capable of dishing out immense damage. Because he is one of the only champions who scale with armor, it makes him a force to be reckoned with in both lane and teamfights. Malphite's teamfight presence is simply scary and helps him dominate the teamfight with the help of his teammates. With a skillset of a slow along with nukes and an aoe knockup, Malphite proves to be very powerful and a force to be reckoned with, even when built tank.
MasteriesMalphite does not benefit much from the offensive tree because he is a tank. Although the 15% magic penetration would be nice on him, it would force him to lose the ghost masteries, exp masteries, and the gold/5 mastery. The gold/5 mastery can be switched for the increased buff duration, but malphite does not have too many mana problems and it is almost always better to let your ap carries have blue buff. The 21 in Defense is to maximize Malphite's defense capabilities to the fullest.
RunesAll runes except for reds are flexible for Malphite.
Malphite needs the magic pen to increase the damage of his skills early game, allowing him to nuke his opponents.
Yellows can be replaced with dodge,mana/5,health, or mana/5level; but remember malphite scales with armor on his e.
Blues should either be mr or mr/level. CDR is not too useful on malphite.
Quints are flexible: Health,Armor,MR,Movement Speed, and Magic Pen are all good.
Ignite is taken to give Malphite a tiny bit more burst damage in lane and fights.
Ghost is taken to help Malphite chase and escape since his ultimate can be used as a flash in desperate situations.
These are to help your team more than yourself.
I wouldn't recommend the other summoner spells.
Passive: Granite Shield
Malphite is shielded by a layer of rock which absorbs damage up to 10% of his maximum health. If he has not been hit for 10 seconds, this effect recharges.
Best laning passive there is. If you get harassed, simply run back for 10 seconds.
Q: Seismic Shard
Deals 70 / 120 / 170 / 220 / 270 (+60% of ability power) magic damage and steals 14 / 17 / 20 / 23 / 26% movement speed from the target for 4 seconds.
Cost 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90mana
A nice slow and movement speed boost. Not exactly that much, but it's something and deals decent damage.
W: Brutal Strikes
Passive: Malphite's attacks hit units near his target for 30 / 38 / 46 / 54 / 62% of his attack damage.
Active: Increase Malphite's armor and attack damage 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 6 seconds.
Cost 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75mana
Good late game when he actually has armor. Early game it is just a waste of mana. One rank in it is acceptable if you really want to splash.
E: Ground Slam
Malphite slams the ground dealing 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+50% of his Armor) magic damage to surrounding enemies, reducing their attack speed by 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50% for 4 seconds.
Cooldown 8 seconds
Cost 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 mana
An awesome aoe nuke/disable that scales with armor
R: Unstoppable Force
Malphite charges towards the target area, dealing 200 / 300 / 400 (+100% of ability power) magic damage and knocking enemies into the air for 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds.
Cooldown 130 / 115 / 100 / 110seconds
Malphites signature skill. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Q is amazing for harass and utility.
E is good in combination with your ultimate.
W is a waste of mana until late game where you activate w then click e to do bonus damage.
Is simply AMAZING.
It gives you health and all the mana regen you need. (unless you spam like a lunatic)
After this, I would build all tank items, and maybe a hourglass.
If your losing, you can try going for maybe 1 and to have a better lategame.
Final CommentsMalphite dishes out a ton of burst damage for a tank. He is an amazing anti carry because he can simply ultimate in their face slam their face and demolish them. He does not have a taunt or stun like alistar, shen, or amumu so his ability to actually protect teammates is less than other tanks. He is a very strong solo laner as well as duo laner.
Early GameHarass with and always use to sustain yourself in lane.
If your shield is broken, run back for 10 seconds then come back.
Mid GameGank Gank Gank Your ultimate and q are great for ganking.
Teamfights should be starting and remember that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO INITIATE.
tell your team that you are initiating or ping and ultimate in the teamfight and hope that your team will help you.
The combo is ->(to boost damage on e)->-> the lowest person/squishy/carry/.
Late GameSTAY WITH YOUR TEAM
Now is when you are nearly unkillable. You should still be the one initiating but don't EVER initiate when the numbers are against you.(Unless you/your team is super fed)I see people initiate all the time 2v4 or 2v5 or 3v5 and it is just a pitiful one sided slaughter.
CountersMalphite is a very strong counter to squishy champions/carries but less effective against other Tanky Dps. Watch out for and, they will be your demise.
Ultimate UsageDon't be afraid to use defensively in a way similar to flash. It is worth having your ultimate on cooldown for two minutes rather than to die.
Team FightsWhere Malphite Shines. in, kill the carry and absorb all the damage. Malphite should try to hit as many people as possible with and and help his team in any way possible.
JunglingReplace with .
Replace the gold/5 in utility with the buff masteries.
Start at Blue with E->Q->E->Q then resume the same skill build.
It's actually decently effective but still slower than rammus and amumu.
