Introduction
Hi I'm, Rincent from US-East. I'm currently hovering 2200~ Elo.

I'm more known for my Twitch play at high Elo rather than Mundo, but I've recently picked up Mundo jungle and due to many request, I decided to make a jungle Mundo guide.

Mundo is a very underrated champion due to his history of nerfs and displacement. In my opinion, he excels in jungle and completely DOMINATES majority of junglers, even the current kings of jungle(skarner, udyr, shyvanna, lee).

If you learn to play him properly, he will become a huge menace from early-mid game.
CHANGELOG
3/8/2012:

Changed skill order. Reason: Level 2 Q helps steal red by being able to pull from the other side, will show how to. Other than this, it also helps gank at level 2 if you ever need to. Also, lets you get away if there is trouble.

Changed item build. Reason: Played many games recently, and tried to focus more on early game.

Added more information on masteries/runes.

3/19/2012:

added new section on item build order!

added video featuring me by Studio, a high elo player.
Masteries
For masteries, I run a 9/12/9 setup getting the most beneficial masteries for Mundo. He does not require deep into offensive or utility, but with this setup, you get most of the important masteries.

9 into armor pen.
12 into armor, regen, -2 from creep, -2 from all, and return creep damage.
9 into buff duration.

The 9 in offensive and 12 in defensive is a MUST. The rest of the 9 points can be placed anywhere.

You could go 18/12/0 or 9/21/0 instead.

For red, attack speed is essential for fast clears and minimal damage taken.

Quintessence can be replaced with Movespeed or HP/5 regen for a more utility/safe Mundo. I highly recommend attack speed. However, Movespeed is a very good alternative for mobility. Experiment with it after you have more experience as Mundo.

Yellow armor is mandatory for all junglers.

Blue mr/lvl benefits the most out of any blue.
Summoner Spells
[summoners/exhaust.png][summoners/smite.png]

Explanation:

[summoners/exhaust.png]or[summoners/flash.png]?

You can go either exhaust or flash. I personally put exhaust since it dominates soloque and really lets you abuse ganks/counterjungling to the max. You can essentially take on anyone early game and easily snowball the game.

Flash however, is very important when you want to play safer. I don't recommend it as much for soloque.
Skills
[skills/drmundo/p.png] Passive: Adrenaline Rush

Dr. Mundo regenerates 0.3% of his max health each second.

Explanation:

Very strong passive for jungle. Since you will be staying out in the field for a long time with missing hp, this essentially saves you a couple of potions. Basically every 1,000 hp you have, you get a regrowth pendant.

[skills/drmundo/q.png] Q: Infected Cleaver

Dr. Mundo hurls his cleaver, dealing damage equal to 15 / 18 / 21 / 23 / 25% of the target's current health (80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 damage minimum) and slowing them by 40% for 2 seconds.

Cooldown 4 seconds

Cost 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 health

Range 10000

Explanation:

One of Mundo's defining skills. With this you can do insane ganks over and over as long as you land your cleavers. Late game this is an important source of damage due to the low cooldown and scaling damage. Mastering this will allow you to abuse jungle Mundo to the max.

I keep this at level one because the scaling on slow doesn't increase and the other skills are more important for damage/health efficiency. Get this at level 3/4 depending on whether you're ganking/invading early on or not.

[skills/drmundo/w.png] W: Burning Agony

Toggle: Dr. Mundo deals 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 100 (+20% of ability power) magic damage to nearby enemies, and reduces the duration of crowd control effects on Dr Mundo by 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35%.

Cooldown 4 seconds

Cost 20 / 28 / 35 / 43 / 50 health per second

Range 325

Explanation:

The skill that got buffed recently that will make Mundo clear jungle faster than ANY jungler. It also makes him a huge bully and crush anyone easily. MAX THIS FIRST!!

sidenote: DON'T FORGET IT REDUCES CC. Always use it before a cc is thrown at you.

[skills/drmundo/e.png] E: Masochism

Increases physical damage by 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 100 for 5 seconds. Dr. Mundo gains an additional +0.4 / 0.55 / 0.7 / 0.85 / 1 damage for each percentage of health he is missing.

Cooldown 7 seconds

Cost 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 health

Range 300

Explanation:

Another spell that makes Mundo one of the strongest junglers(in my opinion obviously). Not only is it adding clear time to your already insanely fast clear with W, it also lets you fight anyone 1v1. This is the spell that makes you a strong counter jungler and a strong ganker.

[skills/drmundo/r.png] R: Sadism

Dr. Mundo regenerates 50% of his Max Health over 12 seconds. Additionally, he gains 15 / 25 / 35% movement speed.

Cooldown 75 seconds

Cost 20 percent of health

Explanation:

A very misused spell of Mundos. As a jungler, you want to use this during a fight with enemy jungler or to sneak in steal a buff and run. It is essentially a free ghost combined with a giant heal.

Early levels this is used as ghost to gank.

Skill Order
As I've mentioned in the skill descriptions, you should max [skills/drmundo/w.png] first, followed by [skills/drmundo/e.png] with one point in [skills/drmundo/q.png]. The reason I go this path is because W gives you insanely fast clear(faster than shyvanna or udyr).

E is gotten second due to its huge steroid, which is arguable one of the best steroids in the game. It will allow you to dish out massive damage with only wits end.

Q is always maxed last due to the inferior scaling. If you miss, you take a chunk of hp off that isn't very ideal at early levels. It also does not improve slow so there is no reason to level it.

Simple order would be WEEQ into max R>W>E>Q. If you're invading/ganking early, go for WQE start. I only recommend early invasions, since ganking early really sets you back unless it is successful.

Note that this is for jungle Mundo.
Build Order
I find this section important because the order of my items makes a big difference on my early game so I decided to include this:

Start:
[items/boots-of-speed.png]/[items/cloth-armor.png]

First Trip:
[items/dorans-shield.png] OR [items/ninja-tabi.png]
/[items/recurve-bow.png]IF YOU CAN GET 1050 ON FIRST TRIP BACK +[items/health-potion2.png] pots are op

Second Trip:
[items/ninja-tabi.png]/[items/mercurys-treads.png]IF DIDNT FINISH
[items/giants-belt.png] OR [items/ruby-crystal.png](if not enough) +[items/health-potion.png]

Third Trip:
[items/giants-belt.png]IF DIDNT FINISH OR [items/recurve-bow.png]IF DIDNT FINISH

From here on:
[items/wits-end.png] -> [items/phage.png] -> [items/frozen-mallet.png]/[items/chain-vest.png]IF GETTING KILLED LOT BY HEAVY AD OR [items/spirit-visage.png]IF GETTING KILLED LOT BY HEAVY MAGIC -> complete build

Afterwards:
Find out on your own! Usually I get [items/atmas-impaler.png]or[items/thornmail.png]. Sometimes, I get [items/warmogs-armor.png] for even more HP since HP can never go wrong.

Notes: Always grab some pots for first 15~ minutes it'll save you from ignite, leave room for ganks, let you roam more, steal when you know buffs are about up, and so many other possibilities.

Rush recurve if you can, dat shits op early on. If you can't 1 shot it, don't get it. Grab smaller items like doran shield and tabi. Grab some health early on(level 1-7), it helps a ton. Grab wits end after you have some health and t2boots. From here it's either finish mallet(only if you're doing decent and not dying much), or grab some tankier items like chain/spirit visage. MR is rarely needed past 150 because magic falls off much less and void staff won't come til much later.
Item Build A Bruiser
[items/cloth-armor.png]And potions should always be gotten first. It allows you to stay in the field without backing for a very long period of time. If not, go for [items/boots-of-speed.png]start for the early plays. You should always rush [items/ninja-tabi.png] because the movespeed and armor is impeccable. It is your first item back unless you happen to get caught and die. I only get [items/mercurys-treads.png]when I really need it(comp such as ryze, taric, ashe, etc.), but the fact that it is not additive with W's cc reduction and the most expensive t2 boots makes me shy away from it on Mundo. The immediate t2 boots really makes ganking and moving a ton easier.

[items/wriggles-lantern.png] is ok.

[items/wits-end.png]Should be gotten as soon as you can. It gives you insane amounts of damage with your masochism steroid. Get a doran shield and ruby crystal after shoes for some health. Most of the time I find myself returning with enough gold for a [items/recurve-bow.png]. Get a belt after for some more health.

[items/frozen-mallet.png] lets you stick onto targets and peel hard. It is esssential against champions like Tryndamere, Udyr, Irelia, etc. When these dashing bruisers stick onto your carries, you immediately peel them with mallet and cleavers.

Consider [items/spirit-visage.png] for MR and CDR.

The rest of the items you can figure out yourself to some extent. Atmas is very good for additional damage. If you find yourself dying to Trynd/irelia etc. due to sticking onto them, build omen.

Don't underestimate Frozen Heart. Although you don't benefit from the mana, the CDR is MASSIVE and so is the aura and armor. Not to mention FH is fairly cheap.
Item Build B Tank

Here is where you branch off from the first build.

Rush for [items/warmogs-armor.png]. You could get a [items/heart-of-gold.png] if you're looking to play a late game. From here you can go [items/atmas-impaler.png] or [items/wits-end.png] or [items/spirit-visage.png].

Pretty straightforward.
BEFORE TEAMFIGHTS!
Try focusing on farming and being in the jungle more than a ganking machine. What I've noticed from a lot of players that use my guide is that they focus too hard on ganking. Only gank when you see an easy and avaliable gank. If you see a lane that doesn't have flash, you can continually gank that lane.

Focus on stealing enemies big wraith and clearing your jungle over and over. Mundo clears super fast! You should almost never be behind in CS vs the enemy jungle.

When you finish ganking a lane and it is pushed, push it all the way til it hits the enemy tower.
Teamfights! Important for lower Elos to learn!
As Mundo, there are 2 real ways you can approach. When you already have a very tanky/initiator champ on your team such as [champ/malphite.png][champ/singed.png][champ/chogath.png], you could build more bruiser by going [items/atmas-impaler.png][items/infinity-edge.png] after your mallet(core).

When you're the bruiser, you want to ALWAYS protect your carries. With clever+mallet, you should be hitting nonstop. You should be hitting as hard as a [champ/masteryi.png], so protecting your carries will be easy. NEVER go diving in 1v3 against the enemies to kill off their AD/AP carries unless your whole team is on their team.

If you're the only real tank with other bruisers like [champ/gangplank.png][champ/leesin.png][champ/rumble.png][champ/udyr.png], you should build tanky after core by going [items/randuins-omen.png]+[items/frozen-heart.png], or [items/force-of-nature.png][items/randuins-omen.png].

When you're the tank, you want to be disrupting their AD/AP carry. Assuming the enemy team is mostly bruiser/phys dmg([champ/nocturne.png][champ/gangplank.png][champ/pantheon.png][champ/riven.png]), go the physical tanky route and GO FOR THEIR AP CARRY! If they're mainly magical([champ/rumble.png][champ/mordekaiser.png][champ/swain.png][champ/shyvana.png]), build magical defensive route and GO FOR THEIR AD CARRY! By doing this, you're eliminating their only source of magical/phys damage.
Mundo in ActioN

A high elo 1900-2100 game featuring Mundo!

I'm running boots in this as well as 0/21/9 with movespeed quints giving me huge mobility as you can see in this video. I don't suggest you guys running this unless you get a really good leash and know what you're doing. IMO, attackspeed quints and cloth 5pot is safer to run.

Video By Studio, a buddy of mine. Featuring me go watch it!
Gank/Jungle Routes
[http://i.imgur.com/jDYtU.jpg]

SAVE SMITE!! DON'T SMITE BLUE IF YOU DO THIS ROUTE. TELL YOUR TEAM TO LEASH BIG AND THAT YOU'RE NOT SMITING!

When you start on blue side, follow the red jungle path and proceed to gank top or steal wraiths and gank mid through the peach route.

When you start on the purple side, follow the black jungle path and proceed to gank bot or steal wraiths and gank mid.

However, first you should camp red for at least 5 seconds(depends on enemy jungler). If you see them, kill them asap. If you're losing the 1v1, use exhaust and kill. Don't chase too hard if they flash.

If you get there and the red is gone, WARN MID AND TOP/BOT(depends on side)! It is most likely that they're going for lvl 2 gank. You should head towards wherever you think the jungler is going.(top is most commonly ganked)

REMEMBER ALWAYS KEEP UP IN FARM! Mundo should never be behind in farm/level.
If you're scared the enemy will know where you are and gank you, do a safe and standard blue path.
Early Game
Your job here is to first secure wolf and blue. A strategy that I tend to do is clear wolf and blue with help from team and save smite to invade. After I clear blue I sneak straight into the enemy red and kill the buff, assuming it is alive. Always keep your HP high when invading with potions, and watch for ganks from lanes. No jungler can clear standard blue path to red fast enough to reach you since you are Mundo.

Smite the red when it is low and hide in the brush. Depending on the jungler, you might want to wait 5-10 seconds for him to come. Once he comes and sees that the red is gone, immediately kill him. If you have exhaust, no jungler can take you on with red as Mundo without lane assistance.

If he does not come in time, he has invaded your jungle or is preparing to do a early gank.

If the enemy has a tendency to start on red or invade your red, get a ward along with your cloth and pots as I've mentioned earlier.

From here, look for ganks and try to use exhaust whenever it is avaliable. Don't be afraid to take a couple of tower shots, but DO NOT tower dive early on recklessly. This comes later.

If a lane has no flash, cleaver can assure easy kill as long as you can land them.

REMEMBER ALWAYS KEEP UP IN FARM! Mundo should never be behind in farm/level.
Mid Game
Farm tons and keep control of the buffs/camps. Continually invade if you see that your allies lanes re pushed or pressured. You are fairly safe assuming you know what you're doing.

Keep dragon in control, tell your top to come down and prepare a dragon if all lanes are under control.

If you bought a chain vest with 2k+ HP, you can start to dive as long as you have good sight and good initiation.

REMEMBER ALWAYS KEEP UP IN FARM! Mundo should never be behind in farm/level.
Late Game
Your job now is to watch for buffs and baron while keeping up with farm. Mundo should have heavy farm.

By now, you should have mallet and you should be peeling in fights. Do not go chasing unless you are the strongest one. By this I mean stick to anyone who goes on your carries.

The only time you should be off chasing the enemy ad or ap is when you are the strongest. This still has it's limits to chasing. This is because if you are able to clean them up easily, you will be able to kill the bruisers no problem.(assuming you are the most fed and all)

You are also the main tank so always stay in front keeping up with cleavers to catch anyone off guard.

REMEMBER ALWAYS KEEP UP IN FARM! Mundo should never be behind in farm/level.
Final Comments
I hope you guys enjoyed my guide. I tried to go as specific as I can into mastering Mundo. Practice makes perfect. If you can land all your cleavers, you become Mundo king! Learn to control the jungle with Mundo and you'll hit 2k elo+ easily. If you have additional questions, leave a comment and I can answer whatever question you may have.

I know Rincent isn't replying here anymore but with Wits End getting nerfed to 20 Magic resistance will it be a viable choice?

Even Force of Nature is getting banned...what MR items are we looking at?

Hey Rincent, what do you think of Sunfire Cape on Dr. Mundo? I didn't see any mention of it in this guide and it looks like a great item on Mundo. Gives him huge survivability and AoE damage to stack with Burning Agony.
