Explanations in Item Build Section
Introduction
Kayle is a forgotten champion who has the potential to be viable in today's meta game. She is effectively a ranged champion with the stats of a melee one. Kayle is unique in the fact she utilizes different items and deals both physical and magic damage.

The role of Kayle is a supporting semi-carry who solos top. Kayle is able to shred through enemy armor which allies also benefit from which makes Kayle perfect in a triple ad line up. The utility that Kayle brings is unmatched and limited to her only.

Throughout the game, Kayle starts as a powerful champion but continues to scale and is decent at fulfilling all the roles in the game. The main stats for Kayle is attack speed and cooldown reduction.
Pros:
  • Gamechanging Ultimate
  • Best Utility
  • High Single Target Damage
  • Decent Laning Phase
  • Unique and Hybird
  • Great in Teamfights
Cons:
  • Item Dependent
  • Fragile
  • Susceptible to CC
  • Average AOE Damge
  • No Escapes
  • Has Weak CC
Masteries

Explanation:

Kayle's role is solo top bruiser and using this 21/9/0 setup is aimed for the most damage contributing masteries while allowing points for veteran's scars. I choose sorcery and arcane knowledge over deadliness and lethality because it actually contributes more impact for Kayle. Havoc is strong on Kayle since it stacks with her reckoning passive and that havoc increases all her damage not just physical which deadliness does.
Explanation:

Marks:
Greater Mark of Alacrity (1.7% Attack Speed)

Seals:
Primary - Greater Seal of Resilience (1.4 Armor)

Glyphs:
Primary - Greater Glyph of Shielding (0.15 Magic Resist per Level)
Alternative - Greater Glyph of Warding (0.15 Magic Resist per Level)

Quintessences
Primary - Greater Quintessence of Alacrity (3.4% Attack Speed)
Alternative - Greater Quintessence of Strength (2.25 Attack Damage)

Kayle scales off attack speed more than any other stats so it is necessary for the reds and quintessence to be only attack speed. Attack speed also is still a useful stat late game and synergies with Kayle innate armor reduction. Kayle must also find a balance in defense as she is a bruiser so the yellow and blues assist in this problem. Runes are mainly based on user preference and I believe this is the best set up to use on Kayle. Using defensive runes is more effective in the fact you will reduce more damage than someone deals with offensive runes.

Greater Glyph of Shielding is better for laning against magical damagin dealing champions and Greater Quintessence of Strength is stronger than attack speed early which helps to last hit better as well.
Summoner Spells
[summoners/flash.png][summoners/exhaust.png]

Explanation:

Flash
Kayle basically has no escape spells which flash compensates. Even so, flash is still a very strong summoner spell which any champion can use. Not only can flash be use for escape but for closing the gap between champions.

Exhaust
Since exhaust slows the target, Kayle benefits from her first spell where she deals more damage to slowed targets. Overall, there should always be an exhaust on a team and is good on Kayle as the supporting bruiser. Exhaust can always be switched with other spells depending on team composition.
Skills
[skills/kayle/p.png] Passive: Holy Fervor

Kayle's basic attacks against enemy champions now reduce their armor and magic resistance by 3% for 5 seconds (stacks up to 5 times)

Explanation:

This passive is virtually useless early game but as the enemy starts building armor and magic resistance it scales into a deadly passive. The fact that it reduces armor and magic resistance so allies benefit make it better. Building attack speed will allow to apply these passive faster.

[skills/kayle/q.png] Q: Reckoning

Blasts a target, dealing 60 / 110 / 160 / 210 / 260 (+100% of bonus attack damage and +100% of ability power) magic damage and slowing its movement speed by 35% for 4 seconds.

While the target is slowed, Kayle inflicts 6/7/8/9/10% increased damage to them.

Cooldown 8 seconds
Cost 70/75/80/85/90 mana
Range 650

Explanation:

A decent nuke with very nice scaling but its main function is in its utility. When using this ability, it should be for its slow which will unlock its passive. This spell is not for harass in the laning phase because its level will be too low. It is used to secure kills or escape ganks instead. Always use this spell on the target you are focusing in fights.

[skills/kayle/w.png] W: Divine Blessing

Blesses an allied champion, healing them for 45/85/125/165/205 (+35% of ability power) health and increasing their movement speed by 15/17/19/21/23% for 2.5 seconds.

Cooldown 15 seconds
Cost 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 mana
Range 1000

Explanation:

A nerfed spell which has made become useless with its poor scaling and high cooldown. Only take this ability once before maxing other spells. Use this sparingly as it will quickly drain Kayle's mana which is better used for other spells. This spell is more useful to use for its movement speed buff than its pathetic heal.

[skills/kayle/e.png] E: Righteous Fury

Kayle's attacks strike at range. These attacks splash, dealing an additional magic damage to her target and nearby units take 20 / 25 / 30 / 35.5 / 40% of her attack damage plus magic damage.

The total bonus damage is 20/30/40/50/60 base damage plus (+20% of ability power).

Cooldown 16 seconds
Cost 45 mana

Explanation:

The spell that defines Kayle. Makes Kayle a ranged champion with very strong splash damage. With enough cooldown reduction, this spell can be used indefinitely without losing its effects but it is not a priority to do so. The ability power scaling is poor but it has a very high base damage which makes attack speed more effective for Kayle. This spell is maxed first as it allows Kayle to harass the enemy from a distance. This also makes Kayle an excellent as she is able to clear waves in seconds.

[skills/kayle/r.png] R: Intervention

Bathes Kayle's target in a holy light, rendering them immune to all damage for 2 / 2.5 / 3 seconds.

Cooldown 90seconds
Cost 100 / 75 / 50mana
Range 1200

Explanation:

The ultimate that determines between a good Kayle player and a bad one. It is the only spell in the game to make a target invulnerable and it has an incredibly short cooldown. The main priority to this spell on is the ally who deals the most damage. This does not necessary mean it should be saved for just one champion and it is up to your judgment to see who to ultimate will benefit the team most. Try to use this spell before the enemy unleashed their burst damage. In the laning phase, Kayle can tower dive low champions with this ultimate or bait enemy's when low throughout the game.

Skill Order
[skills/kayle/r.png][skills/kayle/e.png][skills/kayle/q.png][skills/kayle/w.png]
Explanation:

Level up ultimate whenever possible because it is a noticeable difference and impact. Maxing righteous fury is better than reckoning because combined with early attack speed, righteous fury will able to harass the enemy more and clear waves faster. Reckoning is maxed next since is it obviously much better than divine blessing since it provides more damage and mana effective.
Item Builds
Starting Items:

[items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png]
In most cases always start with these items as Kayle is usually harassing as ranged and needs to maintain a distance while doing so without taking damage.
[items/cloth-armor.png][items/health-potion5.png]
Buy these items when you know you will be exchanging damage between the enemy even with boots. Turn the cloth armor into a Madred's Razor after the core items.

Early Game:

[items/berserkers-greaves.png][items/starks-fervor.png]
Try to rush these items as soon as possible. Berserker Greaves is the best boots for Kayle for damage but can be sold later for mercury treads once Kayle has enough attack speed already. Zeke's Herald is the perfect first item for Kayle as it provides the best stats for Kayle (250 hp, 15% Cooldown Reduction, 12% Lifesteal and 20% Attack Speed Aura) for the laning phase. Basically Zeke's Herald is an improved version of stacking Doran's Blade for Kayle and is cheap enough to be rushed.

Middle Game:

[items/the-black-cleaver.png][items/phage.png]/[items/sheen.png]/[items/zeal.png]
What Kayle desperately needs is more attack and attack speed which The Black Cleaver provides. It is strong earlier since it reduces the target's armor by a static 15 every attack at a maximum of three stacks. This item combined with Kayle's passive will be able to shred the enemie's armor which allies benefit as well. After completing The Black Cleaver, start working towards a trinity force. It is up to user preference to which item they start with but I usually buy Phage first.

Late Game:

[items/trinity-force.png][items/madreds-bloodrazor.png][items/guardian-angel.png]
These items are the most expensive in the game but since Kayle's core is cheap it is a possibility to buy these items still. I would usually buy Trinity Force before Madred's Bloodrazor but in certain cases where the enemy is stacking health with small resistance buy Madred's Bloodrazor. If you do not need more damage after The Black Cleaver then I suggest buying Guardian Angel as defense as Kayle has enough health from other items but not defense.

Early Game
Try to farm as much as possible because Kayle is very item dependent. Avoid using mana unless it is to harass the enemy. Use only Righteous Fury to zone the opponent and use your starting item to your advantage. If it is a difficult lane then it is acceptable to use Righteous Fury to simply farm from a distance. You should not ever be at full mana but never out of mana as well. The best time to recall is when the creep is pushed to the enemy turret and you have enough money to buy core items. Buy a Vampiric Scepter first when building Zeke's Herald if you are forced to recall early.
Mid Game
This should be around twenty minutes and with proper farming you should be able to afford the core items. With these core items, Kayle deals massive damage but also buffs the teams physical damage. Which is why it is important to now take objectives such as turrets and dragon as a team because of Kayle's strong team fighting utility.
Late Game
Confrontations between both teams will now happen. Kayle will be less tankier but still deal as much or more damage than she ever did before. Kayle's position in teamfights should be in front of the fragile allies but behind the main melee champion. The best target to attack is the closest one as your ad carry should be attacking it as well. With your debuffs and buffs, you and your ad carry will be able to rip through a target quickly at a time. If possible you can aim the enemy who deals the most damage if they are out of position or you can kill them within the time frame of your ultimate. Try not to suicide just kill one target as the team will always be stronger with Kayle alive. If possible having both blue and red buffs will benefit Kayle but your allies may need it more.
Final Comments
Hopefully you will find my unique build on Kayle to be effective in maintaining her role to deal both damage and support the team. This may not be the best way to play Kayle as there are many ways to build Kayle and also many roles she can play but I find this build to my preferred one.

The most important thing is to always have fun while playing and never be afraid to try new builds. Thank you for reading my guide to Kayle.

I have been looking for a guide similar to this for a LONG time, was afraid i'd have to make one myself. Good job man +1.
Something to perhaps note in your guide is that the % damage increase of her q applies to the passive on both triforce and bloodrazors, which is partly why those are core items along with black cleaver. Also, because i've seen so many hybrid guides lately, perhaps a section on why ad/as is better than ap/as or hybrid/as would help. Good guide overall, i'll try and promote it if i can. I want to be able to play solotop Kayle in ranked without being flamed. :-)

No madreds, no starks, no black cleaver.

This is how i would build solotop kayle.

Beserker greaves, warmogs, atmas, infinity edge, blood thirster, trinity force.

As soon as kayle gets atmogs, squishys beware, cause i have entered the mothea fakn fray
