IntroductionThis is a low risk high reward build that I've had quite a bit of success with. The control nocturne has with this build, masteries and runes is just insane and you will be denying and or killing the lane opponent very frequently due to your unstoppable harass and pure power.
Why mid with Nocturne?
I prefer mid (or a solo lane) as nocturne because i feel its much better for nocturne, He gets much more steady farm and exp then the jungle and he doesn't have to rely on his ganks. And he can still do some insane ganks from mid, at rank 1 his ult will reach around dragon to help out a fight near dragon to back up your jungler. He is an extremely potent and strong solo laner and can 1v1 just about anyone in addition to getting a guaranteed FB most of the time.
Masteries, Runes and SummonersMasteries are set up for the highest possible damage potential for nocturne, Standard things.
Runes are set up for the extremely easy and unavoidable first blood at level 1 or level 2. Some people think armor pen is better but the steroids and scaling makes flat AD just so much better for nocturne in my opinion so i rock FLAT AD quints, marks, glyphs, and Flat MP5 seals.
Summoners, I use its a completely integral part of your kit, It makes you extremely slippery and deadly. Flash and ignite are required for my lvl 2 FB attempt.
Passive: Umbra Blades
Every 10 seconds, Nocturne's next attack strikes surrounding enemies for 120% physical damage and heals himself for 15/20/25 per target hit.
Nocturne's basic attacks reduce this cooldown by 1 second.
Explanation:Amazing passive, The 20% damage steroid is priceless and scales with the AD runes for a 200+ damage auto attack at level 2. This also helps with farm and last hitting, Last hitting every single creep with this passive and the AD runes is doable, the heal is insanely nice and will alow you to start with a Doran's blade and keep laning for almost as long as you want.
Nocturne throws a shadow blade which deals 60/110/160/210/260 (+75% attack damage) physical damage and leaves a Dusk Trail for 5 seconds. Enemy champions hit also leave a Dusk Trail.
While on the trail, Nocturne ignores unit collision and gains 15/20/25/30/35% Movement Speed and 20/30/40/50/60 Attack Damage.
Cooldown 10 seconds
Cost 60/65/70/75/80 mana
Explanation:Amazing targeted skill-shot that does some nice damage, gives additional AD and movespeed while on the trail it produces, in addition to ignoring minion collision for extremely easy harass, and great for chasing.
W: Shroud of Darkness
Passive: Nocturne has 20/25/30/35/40% bonus Attack Speed.
Active: Nocturne creates a magical barrier for 2 seconds, which blocks the next enemy ability.
If an ability is blocked by the shield, Nocturne's passive Attack Speed bonus doubles for 5 seconds.
Cost 50 mana
Explanation:Amazing skill, great steroid and perfect shield for making nocturnes assassinations much cleaner, great in team fights when you have veil, makes you extremely slippery and will make people rage, learn to always be ready to use this to block things.
E: Unspeakable Horror
Nocturne plants a nightmare into his target's mind, dealing 50/100/150/200/250 (+100% ability power) magic damage over 2 seconds. If Nocturne stays within 600 range of the target for the full duration, the target becomes feared for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 second(s).
Cooldown 15/14/13/12/11 seconds
Cost 60/65/70/75/80 mana
Explanation:Some really nice hard CC and some damage to add to your burst, This will help you land that lvl 2 first blood, use it on people trying to run or anyone you want stop.
Nocturne reduces the sight radius of all enemy champions and removes their ally vision for 4 seconds.
While Paranoia is active, Nocturne can launch himself at an enemy champion, dealing 150/300/450 (+120% attack damage ) physical damage.
Cooldown 160/130/100 seconds
Cost 100 mana
Explanation:Amazing ult, Has so many different usages. Also part of the reason why nocturne mid is great, if there is a dragon fight your rank 1 will reach dragon and you can instantly be there to help a dragon fight at dragon, This also will give you free kills if a ward or a team mate finds someone overextended with you nearby. Don't hesitate to use this to escape as well it can act as a stealth for a few seconds, if you're caught in a bad spot where you know you will be caught you flash in any direction and ult and usually get away.
Item BuildsYou want to start with , This will put your starting AD at around 90, and around 110 on your level 1 trail, very important for first blood.
You want to farm as hard as possible, and the first time you recall should be for a BF sword, then boots, then finish up that first , then go straight for a or if you are getting destroyed a .
First Blood and what to do afterAlright, so now you've convinced your team to reluctantly give you mid. Get your doran's blade and scout and guard your jungle, then go to mid lane. This is where the fun begins, Try and hit a Q on the enemy mid, you will be faster then them, try to run and tap them a few times. You may even manage to first blood at this point if they weren't to cautious at the start, Most of the time you will have to wait until level 2, Keep everything slow and keep last hitting, Get ready and try and get in position to hit a (Q) as you have a couple minions before you get level 2 and get your fear. Wait for it and cast (Q) as you level, get your (E).
Now, if your Q missed, wait until its up again and try again, Only begin the FB process if you hit a q. Alright so now you've hit the Q and leveled. You should be decently close to them and you will immediately ontop of them and and (E) them. You have 110+ ad, you will be hitting them for around 100 every attack, and they have around 500 health, you will be able to potentially attack them 7+ times due to the CC from E and there you have it. You have scored first blood, Anyone will die from this perfectly executed combo UNLESS they flash out of your E to their tower or exhaust you before you burst.
Now if they did somehow manage to not die and flashed away don't be sad, They now have no summoners up to get away a second time, This means that they will be scared shitless and you can freely stand behind their creeps and deny him exp, if he even tries to get into range (Q) and passive hit them.
Now, you've killed them once. And you will come out of it at around 100% health unless you took some tower damage. If you are very very low go back, get one and return, If not keep farming and last hitting, They will be slightly behind you in exp from the death and you will be able to dominate them from here on out, keep farming and once you hit 6 look for a gank, if anyone is below 50% you can easily kill them or even double kill a lane. When you can afford a and / go back and get them and come back to farming and looking for ganks, Farming is so important for being the unstoppable carry assassin you should be. Because Nocturne has some of the best steroids in the game in my opinion farm does great things for him, just keep farming.
Team FightsTeam Fights are great as Nocturne, When playing Nocturne you should always look for opportunities where you can get a couple people picked off with your ultimate before a real team fight even starts, if this isn't possible wait for your tank to initiate and ult into the enemy squishy carry, anything that you can easily kill, At this point you should be very farmed and even slightly fed and due to scaling you will melt people in just a couple auto attacks, try to hit everyone you can with your (Q) and passive, (Especially your squishy target). Due to how duskbringer works you will ignore all collision with units which means diving their carry through the team in the chaos of a team fight is extremely easy and fast. Just simply melt down all the focus targets in the team fight until no one else is standing.
Mid CountersI've midded against very many different viable mids with my Nocturne and i can't say any of them have given me trouble.
Possible mid counters to nocturne mid are: , , (After level 6),
Final CommentsPersonally, i feel Nocturne deserves a mid or solo lane much more then his painful jungle, He requires "gimped" runes to jungle "fast" and even then his clear time is mediocre and risky, the only thing good about Nocturne jungle is his insane ball busting ganks, which you can still perform when you are mid. This build has worked for me quite a bit and honestly feels really broken, I haven't really found any counters to nocturne mid yet.
